Shared music and movie library stops loading
The shared iTunes music and movie library stops loading on my ios devices.
iTunes 11.1.5 is set up for both home sharing and library sharing over my secured home wifi network. Home sharing between the mini that is running iTunes and my old Macbook works without any issues.
My ios devices can see and will eventually connect to the shared library but connecting is pretty slow unless the ios devices are in the same room with the mini.
After a few hours my ios connection to the shared music and movie library drops and stops loading halfway when I try to reconnect.
The ipad is running ios 7.1 and my iPhone is running ios 6.1.3.

I'm in the same boat. I'm running iTunes 11.2.2 on a Macbook Pro (running 10.9.3) and iOS 7.1.1 on an iPhone 4s; so running the latest version of software is not the issue.
The username logs in correctly on all devices and I can actually see the iTunes library available to share on my device. From "Music" on the phone, I go to "More > Shared" and then select the library that is shared from my Macbook. So I know that the login information is correct.
The circular status wheel begins to load and gets halfway around before it stalls and does not resume. This process happens repeatedly, so it's reproduceable and consistent -- not a one-time issue.
I've tried restarting both systems, but the same problem ensues. I've also tried signing out and signing back into Home Sharing on all devices, which did not resolve the issue. I've read and followed all the recommendations in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing", but these really only offer solutions if you're not able to see the shared library; which is not the issue that I believe Jay Clay, Hagerty and I are having.
Some thoughts:
Could it be that the iTunes library is too large?
Could it be that Home Sharing times out if the library is not loaded in a set amount of time?
I've attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing on my iPhone, for your reference.
Also, here is the confirmation page I'm seeing in iTunes, so Home Sharing appears to be working.

But in terms of my initial query; thanks for responding. But no, this is NOT the cause of the problem. I have auto sync and sync over wifi activated, but have also selected manually manage music and videos. Plus, all of my music and videos are on my macbook, absolutely all of it, so if it my phone was syncing with my macbook everything would still be on the phone. Life would be peachy if my phone jsut copied everything that was on my macbook, but unfortuantely it keeps deleting tracks for no apparent reason.
Any thoughts greatly welcomed, because at the moment i can only conclude that my iphone is crap. -
My husband backed up our music and movies onto a hard drive and now all my playlists in my itunes have disappeared, how do I retrieve them back into my itunes library???

mistakenly opened all the folders in my library of music and the Finder stopped working.

Try this:
1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo. -
The problem I have is that it wants me to uninstall all itunes and related software then reboot and download itunes installer. If I do this will I loose all music and movies form my Itunes library?
Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)

I need to move the music and movies from my MacBook Air (original) to an external hard drive, after I do this, do I create a new music folder and media folder on my computer to load music/movies in via the dedicatd external drive and then would I be able to move the newly imported to the external drive which would be my main site of storage?
No, do it all in one go and henceforth only use the library located on the external drive.

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library. -
Every time i go on my itunes its as if i have just got it and i have never used it before it's as if it resets over night and the next day i have to load all my apps, music and movies back on to it. if anyone can help or if anyone knows someone who can please say something because its a right pain in the neck. please helpYour problem is normally caused by a program locking the iTunes library so that iTunes can't close properly. There have been a number of causes fro this.

In Control Panel, turn off Vaio Content Folder Watcher and VAIO Content Metadata Intelligent Analyzing Manager.

Sony has issued upgrades for some models, check you Sony download site to see if there is one available.
I would check the work around first.
If that's not it, try temporarily disabling you continuous backup to see if that is the cause. -

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -

i got an iPad and all my app's, music, and movies are on it, but when i try to download some apps to mi iPhone, they doesn't appear on the purchased tab, how could i move them back to itunes so i can access thru iCloud? i have an 2nd generetion ipad and an iphone 5, thanks for you answers!
(I think the daughter got he better end of the deal!) I believe if you change the password and user id one of the devices it will stop that from occurring. But I'm not the one to tell you how to do it; someone like "Illaass" (Illaass seems to know how to correct / fix almost anything!) will know how if you don't. Just look for the "cat" icon.

Trouble sharing Music and Photos on new Mac Book Pro
I am loving my new Mac Book Pro. Front Row seems quite promising, but I'm having problems with shared music and photos.
I have an airport network in my home and have most of my music and photos stored on my desktop (Dual G4). When I open iTunes on my new MBP the shared music works just fine. Similarly, iPhotos shows the shared photos from my desktop on my MBP.
But, when I try using Front Row, I get an error message saying that there is no shared content. I found a work around that seems to work most (but not all) of the time. If I open iTunes first, start playing a song (shared from the desktop) and then switch over to Front Row it shows that song as now playing and then the rest of the shared music is available.
I have used Software Update to download the latest version of all software on both computers and for my airport network.
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
~/library/caches
~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
~/library/prefernces/com.apple.iphoto.plist
~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist

- Restart your computer again
- Test and see how its working

No, it is not a storage solution as if you need to get the things off it you can't. If you deete things from iTunes they'll delete at the next sync. Provided you have backup copie on an external drive or CD/DVD, you could delete the actual file from the Finder leaving the database entry in iTunes - in this way you free space on the laptop but files stay on AppleTV.
An alternative would be to change itunes Preferences (Advanced tab) not to import into the library, then for things you don't want on the Macbook Air, have them on external drive, drag and drop to itunes, sync, then disconnect drive for portable use. Again when the files aren't available they won't be deleted, unless you delete the itunes database reference.

n is faster.
3-What is the best external drive that might fit my need?
Your options are basically small portable drives most of which are USB powered (though may require powered hubs if you have a hub) or larger desktop externals requiring power adapter and more space.
For value the desktop externals give more capacity per pound/dollar, and will also have bigger capacity maximums at a given time (bigger and bigger capacity discs being developed all the time).
Try and work out the capacity/pro

Peronally I like Western Digital, Seagate and Freecom models, but they're all fairly good these days, and even popular brands can fail. I avoid Maxtor and IBM/Hitachi having had failures in the past, but all drives eventually fail.
