Shared Photo Streams - Some Pictures Will Just Not Share

I am using Aperture to create Shared Photo Streams.
I have created 20 or so Shared Photo Streams, many of which work as advertised.
But I have a couple of situations where certain photos just refuse to get shared in to any Shared Photo Stream.
I discovered the issue when I noticed that for a couple of my Shared Photo Streams, the count of the Share Photo Stream was not the same as the number of pictures selected.
When I started investigating, I realized that there are certain photos that simply will not appear in any Shared Photo Stream.  I can't see any difference between these photos and the ones in the same album that share fine.
I have reparied the database and repaired permissions, neither helped.
Is anyone else seeing this?
Suggestions?
Best,
Robert

Quick update on this.
I tried sharing a couple of the problematic photos the next stay and still no luck.
Last night I tried again hoping that the bugs were more on the backend than in Aperture itself and lo and behold I was able to successfully share all the photos I wanted.
So that this point everything is working as expected.
I guess chalk this one up to growing pains of a new service.
All in all, Shared Photostreams are very nice.

  • Shared Photo Stream - Some photos will hang Aperture

    Hi,
I am using Aperture 3.5.1 with Mavericks 10.9.4. Turned on My PhotoStream and Shared Photo Stream. Works great, except when trying to add certain photos to a Shared Photo Stream (older photos it seems). Doing so causes Aperture to enter this odd semi-hung state, where it is no longer responsive to the mouse in the main Aperture window, but the menus at the top still respond, and you can navigate around your photos with the keyboard (e.g. arrow keys). The thumbnail of the picture I tried to share remains stuck on the screen, even when you scroll away with the arrow keys. Lastly, you can switch out of Aperture (send it to the background), but when you click in your other, now-topmost, application, Aperture jumps back to the top, the other app never "catches" the mouseclick.
Anyone seen this? I have tried:
    - Repair the Library
    - Turn off My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams in Aperture, Quit, delete ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement, restart Aperture, turn My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams back on.
    - Duplicating the photo (version) I am trying to share, and try sharing the duplicate. Same result.
Pretty frustrated at this point. I have seen this exact semi-hang described at the bottom of this ApertureExpert forum thread, so I know it is not a total one-off thing...
Any one get out of this?

Hmmm... very curious results as I continue to troubleshoot:
    With a problematic photo:
    - Do a New Version from Original,  try to add to Shared Photo Stream: hangs as described above.
    - Export the original, import back into Aperture, try to add to Shared Photo Stream: works
    - Do a New Version from Original,  adjust exposure,  try to add to Shared Photo Stream: works!
    - Do a New Version from Original,  Delete Preview,  try to add to Shared Photo Stream: hangs as described above.

  • Shared Photo stream doesn't work? (note: Photostream does)

I Have the new 5s and I set up iCloud. My Photo Stream works fine. If I take pictures on my iPad, they show up on my iphone no problem.
BUT I noticed that none of the SHARED photo albums I had before are showing up on my iPhone. Also, if I create a shared album and send out invites, no one receives the invites.
And before anyone says anything, ALL photo stream and photo sharing settings are turned ON. I even tried deleting my iCloud account off of my iphone and re-adding it. No luck there.

Having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?

  • Shared photo stream is not showing up in settings for iPhone 5 or ipad

    Hi there
I am trying to set up a shared photo stream however the option is not coming up on either my iPhone 5 or my iPad (3).
I have tried adjusting the settings (Settings/Photos&Camera/Shared Photo Stream), switching it on & off as well as switching on iCloud again to see if new T&Cs pop up as suggested in other posts - no joy!
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

On your device using iOS 6, try quitting and re-opening the Photos app:
    Quit Photos.
From your Home screen, click your Home button twice. Your open applications should appear in a row at the bottom of your screen.
Scroll to find the Photos icon. Press the icon until the icons jiggle.
Tap the red circle in the upper-left corner of the Photos icon. The icon should disappear from the list.
Tap the Home button again to return to normal operations.
    Also check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.

  • Photo stream is showing up in iphoto recent but not web and I am not able to join the shared photo stream.  all of my software is updated.  can someone tell me how to get photo stream in the web source list? thanks!

Can someone help me get Photo Stream to appear under Web in the iPhoto Source List? I have updated all my software.  iPhoto 11, Mac OS X 10.7.5  All of my preferences are checked.  I am able to see the shared Photo Stream on my iPad, but not my Mac.  The Mac iPhoto photos from the shared photo stream are appearing in the Photo Stream (under Recent), but I thought they would appear as a shared Photo Stream in its own file/album (like on the iPad and iPhone)  - labeled with the shared Photo Stream's title.  Is this supposed to happen on the Mac?  Thanks!

So you are saying for it to do what i want: shared photo stream to appear in web then i need to upgrade.
    Yes
Does that mean i purchase the new software an it's not just an update?
    Yes
Your profile indicates your running 10.7.5.  For shared Photo Streams you need to be running 10.8.2 or later: The following is from  iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What do I need to use Photo Stream?
To use Photo Stream, including Shared Photo Streams, you need an iCloud account, compatible devices, and up-to-date software:  iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6.0 or later Mac with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later and iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later
So you'll need to upgrade to Mt. Lion.
iPhoto requirements are free updates for iPhoto '11

  • Shared Photo Streams – frequently turning on & off during international travel?

    Hello,
I have an Iphone 5 (IOS7) as well as a newer Ipad and Macbook Pro. I use several shared photo streams, some of which I am the “host/share” and others for which I am a “member.”
I will be traveling internationally with Iphone and a reasonable cellular data plan; I will have Wi-Fi in my hotel.  I want to be conscious of international cellular data usage.  Ideally, I would like to turn off photosharing unless I am on Wi-Fi since the number of shared photos and videos (posted by others) can use a lot of data.  I imagine there are numerous complications with doing this.
When I turn off sharing for my device, I assume that all the shared pictures on my device will disappear.
When I turn sharing back on for my device, I assume that all (or a subset) of the shared pictures on my device will re-download to the device (including the specific streams that I host/share?).
I have photo sharing turned on for my other Apple devices that will remain in the US. If I turn off photo sharing on my phone, will the streams I share (“host”) disappear on my friends/family devices?  Although I use my phone for 100% of the actual photo sharing activities, having photo sharing turned on via other devices with the same Apple ID should keep the stream alive-and-well for my friends/family?
The heart of this question is whether the act of “hosting” a photo stream is more device or Apple ID specific (or something else).
I appreciate any thoughts on my assumptions above.
Ideally, I am really looking to put photo sharing on “pause” or a type of “airplane mode” whenever I am using international cellular data and could then  download any new photo sharing updates whenever I happen to be on WiFi.  But I am thinking that this is just not the way it was designed.  Given the all the complications above, is my best option to just turn photosharing off for the  whole trip and then turn it on afterwards?  It would seem that frequently downloading the photo stream contents each time I turn photo sharing back on (when on WiFi) would be a pain.
    Thanks.

Here's what I was just told by an AT&T support person. And I quote, "If you are going outside of the Continental US, just don't bring the phone. Period." Not a great or helpful response.
I am going to Canada tomorrow and called ATT to see how to proceed with using my iPhone up there. The (very nice, by the way) support person told me basically NOT USE IT AT ALL! I am willing to accept roaming charges on phone use which is all I really need but the problem is that anytime the phone is on, it may (or may not) be looking for a network and may (or may not) send data. So, even if I didn't use any Wifi or Edge features, and even if I go to use say a public Wifi network, I may still get hit with pretty big charges.
I am not usually one to complain but you know what....THAT'S INSANE!
This was not all all clear in any of the research that I did before the purchase. I still love using the iPhone but I was told that if I am EVER outside the 50 states, don't use it at all. Not as a phone, not as an internet device, not nothing.
If I am wrong, please let me know but it seems pretty crazy that you can't use your phone like other phones outside of the continental US.

  • Can't share photos using shared Photo Stream with iCloud Control Panel for Windows

BACKSTORY: My friend took pictures of my family. I want to see the pictures he took. We live about 2.5 hours apart by car. Gas prices are too high for me to just drive down with an external hard drive to get the pictures and I might as well throw my money out the window if I were to ship him a hard drive and he ship it back. SO. I ask him if he would share photos with me and he quickly agreed. He added me to a Photo Stream  he has. ok cool. I recieve the invitation email just fine but this is the error I get when I click on the link:
    ERROR MESSAGE:
    Photo Stream
Follow these steps to join a shared photo stream
1.Make sure you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 6 or a Mac running OS X 10.8.2 withiPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later installed.
    2. Sign in to iCloud on your devices.
    3. Open the invitation email on an updated device and tap the Join this Photo Stream button.
    WHAT I NEED:
How can I view shared photo streams using iCloud Windows control panel 2.1.2.0? How can I work around this error message? I don't own any of these products that apple wants me to own in order to view these photos! I don't have the cash to go out and purchase them. What can I do to get "my" photos? Do I have to be signed into my friends apple id to see the shared photos?
    What I've tried:
I already have the icloud control panel installed and updated to the latest version.
I'm signed into iCloud on the control panel. (no apple id password issues)
    I have photo stream checked.
I have my photo stream checked
I have shared photo stream checked.
I have tried copying and pasting the link into the address bars of Safari for Windows, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer,  and Firefox respectively and pressing enter to load. all present the same error message.
I visited iCloud.com to see if there was anywhere to access the shared photo stream there... No option exisits
Checked my photo stream folder in windows explorer. it's completely empty. I haven't put any of my own photos there so nothings missing per se... I just can't see my friends shared photos.
    MY SET UP:
    Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
    4gb of RAM
    iCloud control panel version 2.1.2.0
I don't own any version of Outlook, (if that matters. I doubt that it matters at all in this case.)
I don't have any iOS Devices or a mac capable of 10.8. My MacBook is stuck at 10.6.8. It's a late mid 2008 just before the aluminum unibody computers came out. If I had only waited another month... sigh. Murphy's Law is alive and well.
any sugestions, especially correct answers, are welcome. please help me figure this out. Thanks in advance.

    Hello desert_dweller5,
It sounds like you art trying to access a Shared Photo Stream, but you do not have one of the devices to enable your Apple ID as an iCloud account.  The following article provides information on how Shared Photo Streams work:
    iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
The article states that for privately Shared Photo Streams to work, the recipient will not only have to have an Apple ID, but it will have to be an iCloud account:
Friends and family with iCloud accounts can view your photos in the Photos app on any device using iOS 6 or later; on a Mac in iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later; on a Windows PC with Windows Vista or later and iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later installed; or on a second generation or later Apple TV with software version 5.1 or later installed. They can also view your photos on the web if you enable Public Website in the settings or options for your Shared Photo Stream.
Since you do not have an iCloud account and just and Apple ID, your friend can share the photo stream as a public website so that you can view it, as stated in the same article:
Can I share with people who don't have an iCloud account?
Yes. If you enable Public Website in the settings or options for your shared photo stream your photos will be published to a website that anyone can view in an up-to-date web browser.
To be able to change an Apple ID to an iCloud account, you would need an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later or a Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later as stated in the following article:

  • HT201077 Can't join shared photo stream

I have Windows 7 and I got an e-mail with a link to join a shared photo stream.
I've asked the person if he can just e-mail me the pictures, but he says he doesn't know how, so it looks like I have to deal with all this stuff. So...
I created an apple ID. I installed iCloud Control Panel 2.1. I checked the box in iCloud CP next to Photo Stream (and also both boxes in the Photo Stream options). I signed in to iCloud with my Apple ID. I've closed things and restarted my computer and tried eveything else I can think of, but still when I click on the "Join this Photo Stream" link in the e-mail I just get taken to the page that tells me how to set things up.
So what am I doing wrong? Do I need to have iTunes or some specific photo viewer installed or something too? I don't see anywhere that it says I do, but I can't get it working the way it is.

I was never able to resolve this problem and like abridge1, there was no shared photo streams in Windows Explorer, just My Photo Stream.
I've since uninstalled iCloud Control Panel, so I can't test the theory out, but I wonder if the problem was that the invitiation to join the photo stream was sent before I had created an Apple ID and/or installed iCloud Control Panel. Maybe if the invitation was sent again it would have worked.
Instead I asked the person who made the photo stream to recreate it but this time check the box that gives you a URL so that anyone can access the pictures without any special software. Much easier.

  • Changing permissions on shared photo streams. needs work!

why can't I add other people to view photo-streams that I've created? It seems, I have to make a new photostream of the exact same pictures if I decide I want to add others to a shared photo stream. That's just lousy.

See:  iCloud: Using and troubleshooting Shared Photo Streams
    Look at the paragraph:
How can I invite more people to a photo stream that I've already shared? How do I uninvite someone or delete a subscriber?
On your device running iOS 6:
From your Home screen, tap Photos.
Tap the Photo Stream tab, then on an iPhone or iPod touch tap the blue arrow next to the name of the shared photo stream. On an iPad, tap the Edit button, then select the shared photo stream.
To add people: Under Subscribers, tap Add People. Enter the email address of the person(s) you wish to invite to your shared photo stream. Tap Add.
To remove people: Under Subscribers, tap the name of the person you'd like to remove, then tap Remove Subscriber.

  • Shared Photo Streams - uploads from multiple users?

    Hi all,
Quick question regarding the new Shared Photo Stream feature in iOS 6 and OS X 10.8.2 on iPhoto. You can invite others to be a part of your shared Photo Stream, but if this just so they can view the photos you put in there? I was wondering if others could add their photos in there too, or would they need to set up their own Shared Photo Stream? I'm fairly sure this isn't possible yet but just wanted to check.
    Thanks in advance!

They can only comment on your photos, they can't add to them.  They would have to set up their own shared photo stream.

Photo Stream will only transfer photos taken in the last thirty days.

You would lose photo stream photos older than 30 days from your my photo stream folder.  Tto keep them save them to the camera roll first.  To do this in iOS 7, open your my photo stream alburm, tap Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon on the lower left, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
The photo streams from others should reappear when you turn it back on.  Worst case, the owners of the shared photo streams would have to re-invite you.
