Shared printer not printing

I have a Canon iP4700 connected by usb to my new iMac (21.5) and setup as a shared printer. It prints perfectly from the iMac but other computers on the network (Windows PCs) can see the printer (I set them up using the Bonjour wizard as the normal Windows Add Printer wizard was not reliable) and load the printer interface but when they print, the pages come out blank. I have the correct printer driver installed on the Windows computers. When I had a Windows computer connected to the printer all the computers (3 others) could print to the printer without any problem.
I have tried a print server (Netcomm NP3680) but the iMac keeps dropping the printer into pause mode using the Canon driver but the PreFab driver will print (but does not show ink levels etc). Have also tried the print share feature of the Belkin modem/router but this is also unreliable as it drops connection.
Any ideas on how to get the print to actually print something on the page from the other computers when set up as a shared printer on the Mac?

I had a similar problem with my Canon MP280 when I connected it to my new iMac, shared it on the network and tried to print from a Windows 7 laptop.
The Bonjour wizard set up the printer fine, I could connect and send things to print, but the printer simply ejected a blank page for each job.
I found a number of suggestions about clearing the printer subsystem or other uninstall-and-reinstall type tricks, but none of these worked. I tried many different orders of installing things, even turning off the wireless assistant software on the PC. (Seriously, that was a suggestion in one thread.) All to no avail. What does work for me, I found, was pretty counter-intuitive: Choose the wrong printer driver.
On my Windows 7 PC, I opened the list of printers and right-clicked the printer Bonjour had created, and opened the printer properties. In the properties window I selected the advanced tab, and clicked on the new driver button. There, I selected the HP Color LaserJet Series 2800 PS. I clicked OK and tried out printing, and it worked perfectly.
It seems the trick is picking a postscript printer driver (that's what the PS stands for). I suspect any number of fairly generic PS printer drivers would work. From what I read on the web, it seems that the system Apple uses for sharing printers automatically supports postscript, even (possibly?) for non-postscript printers. This is helpful when the driver provided by the manufacturer doesn't actually work, which seems to be the case for some Canon printers at least.
I don't get ink level reporting, but I'll trade being able to print something for knowing how much ink is left any day.
Note: When you set up a printer using Bonjour on Windows, it may not give you a choice of printer drivers. (I think it skips this step if you already have a matching printer driver installed.) You can still change the printer driver used with the printer later. If it does give you a list, well maybe you should try the manufacturer's printer first, just in case it works.
Now if only I could get AirPrint to work with this printer from my iPad... :-/ (Not holding out much hope for that one.)

  • Printer not printing AND Matching Screen colors to Print colors.  Any advice is apreciated!!

Hello - I have 2 questions regarding  printing to an Epson and also regarding the monitor colors Not matching the print colors working from Photoshop CS4 on a Mac with a Maverick [ 10.9.3 ] OS. My issues are Not about my own printers or software.  I have been tutoring a friend via phone in Photoshop; he has CS4 and is working on Mac OS 10.9.3.
1- We found that he could print nearly fine [ nearly accurate colors ] from Lightroom on his computer, version 5.4.   But when he tries to print from Photoshop he cannot make a print.   There is clear communication between the computer and the printer, as, when he sent the file to print, the printer [ an Epson 3880 ] responded by automatically changing to Photo Black from Matte.  Then, it opens the rollers as if to print, but, it them stops and the menu [ on the Printer ] says 'Ready.'   The paper is 4x6” Moab Lasal paper 300gsm. This issue of Not printing is only with this Moab Lasal luster paper, for which he Does have the IIC profile, and we always make sure ‘Photoshop manages colors,’ not the printer. To address the issue of the printer Not printing at all using a non-Epson brand paper, we have tried seemingly everything from deleting and re-adding the printer from the Library / Printers, resetting everything [ printer   computer   software etc ], trying different settings in the Printer window and the Print Settings window. Including changing the media profile, platen gap, etc.
2- My other and more important question is – after we Do get a print, we cannot match the monitor color to the print. [ We havE been able to get a print using Epson brand paper.   Which is odd because we have the ICC profiles for both papers ]. To address the color matching issue, he has told me he calibrated the monitor with a Spyder, and here are a few other variables that I can relay that may or may not be affecting his color-issues:
He iS viewing his prints in a dayliglht-rated lighting environment
The monitor is an iMac glossy finish monitor, not an anti-glare
We tried working and printing from both an 8-bit and also a 16-bit color-space and also 16-bit printing
The color shift is slightly but noticeably toward Magenta.
    His printer is Not calibrated
Please let me know what else we can do, any known glitches that may be an issue with his older version of CS, any tips you can suggest.
    Thanks very much!

I don't have that printer and I'm not on Mac, so someone else has to step in there. Generally a green/magenta cast indicates none/double printer color management. But then I don't know what you mean by "slight".
The Spyders aren't the most consistent and reliable calibrators out there. I had a Spyder 3 sensor that I just threw away because it gave a distinct red cast (I have several other calibrators, so there was no doubt). Another potential problem is that with most calibrators you can only adjust the white point along the blue/yellow Kelvin scale, but not on the green/magenta scale. This is often necessary to get a good white point color. In this case you need to use the monitor's OSD controls, and if possible the "pre-calibration" function in the calibrator to measure and monitor it - if that function exists. And I don't know if this is possible with an iMac.
This is basically a question of getting the white point right, both on the blue/yellow and the green/magenta axis (and luminance of course). The goal is to get a visual match to paper white on screen. With the white point properly set, neutral color balance relates to that, and the rest more or less follows by itself. (In addition you should set the proper black point/contrast for full control, but that's not the issue here).

  • 6510 all in one photosmart printer - not printing black and/or not at all after 7/22/15 update....

Printer not printing in black at all, poor color print since 7/22/15. I have downloaded drivers and software, hard reset the printer (power cord out and unplugged then plugged all back in), read all the forums, watched youtube videos, called friends, googled answers, bought new ink (waste of money), cleaned print head multiple times, did every step on every forum post to no avail...  Bought a new printer but really would rather return it and get my money back after getting this printer up and running again- why because I think the problem is due to HP and the new update released 7/22/15! I'm very upset, I have spent countless hours attempting to fix this printer (which I really do love up until now).  I have lost credit on school assignments due to printing issues, wasted money on ink (that is really expensive) and wasted the ink trying to fix it running test page after test page.  I feel like this is not fair to the consumer and I am very upset.  I am ready to throw this thing in the street and smash it to pieces with a baseball bat at this point.  I really would rather fix it but apparently this is the only way to contact someone.  I have had this printer for 3 years and do not think I need to replace it or spend money to call someone from HP to fix it nor do I feel like I need to have it "serviced", nor do I wish to waste any futher time or money on the expensive ink this printer requires.

  • HP 6500 officeject all in one printer not printing black ink

HI there, every time I install a new cartridge, I go through all of these steps and end up purchasing another set of ink because I exhausted all of the ink by cleaning the cartridges. I don't understand and wish that I would receive a refund for all of the ink I have purchased with no resolve. At 68.00 a pop, back to back, I am a little frustrated. I still have the same problem of black ink not printing. HELP! I have done everything to trouble shoot the problem!

    Hi @sunnybaby
I appreciate the troubleshooting you have done thus far, and completely understand your frustration. There is something else I would suggest trying, if you have not done so already.
My own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if he printer and printhead are out of warranty.  Hot Water Printhead Flush - HP Ink Series Printers with removable Printhead.
I have recommended this solution to others and have seen success, but I can not guarantee this will resolve the issue, it is an end of the line kind of effort. I hope it helps.

Although the printer might be out of warranty, if the issue persists, HP may be able to offer you something. Maybe they can offer you a discount on a newer model, or discuss the option of replacing the printhead!  If after all of our efforts the issue remains, I suggest calling HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
Thanks for reaching out to the HP Forums. I hope one of my recommendations resolves the issue.

  • HP photosmart 109a printer - Not printing black ink

Hi. I am having problems with my HP photosmart 109a printer. It is printing in the other 3 colours but is not printing from the black cartridge. I have tried replacing the black cartridge twice now with 2 brand new cartridges. I have also tried cleaning the ink head. Any idea what else might be wrong or what I might need to do?

  • Printer not printing correct sizes of photos

Canon Pro9000 for some reason does not print photos correctly. I have made all the correct changes on the page setup and no matter what size I choose it prints only a small size photo. If I choose 11 X 14 it prints a photo 7 1/2 X 6. No matter what size paper I choose. It prints well in Easy-PhotoPrint but not in Lightroom 1.4.1 It worked fine before the driver update for Canon Pro9000
    System I'm using is:
    iMac 24"
2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Printer Canon Pro9000
    Adobe Lightroom 1.4.1
    Thank You,
    Mike M.

Had the same problem with Lr 3 and Canon Pro9000.
Flicked the stroke on and off again - for no reason except someone said that worked. Then I used zoom to fit and it worked.
Which is stupid. I am so sick of having to be in problem solving mode all the d**m time.
Next I'll work on the Wacom driver which freezes in Lr3 from time to time - with a complete lack of consistency.
I wonder why software works so badly these days. Shareholders don't care?

Hi @cindy84 , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues printing. I would like to assist.
It appears you've covered much of the troubleshooting already.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest checking out the steps included in this document:

  • Spool OK, Printer not printing

    Experts,
While I try printing documents from SAP on a dedicated printer, some are printing normally and others, despite a "Completed" status in the Spool list and the SAP Print GUI Popup, are not getting printed. BTW, they appear fine on the Print preview too...
Could this have something to do with the actual forms (Sapscript/Smartforms)?
    OR
Could it be a BASIS Printer config issue?

    Hi,
I am facing a similar issue here with the labels. In one SAP Script we have 3 labels being printed. Out of those only one is getting printed. For other one it is generating a spool but never prints it. For the succesful one it also generates the spool but prints it too !! I have no idea why is this happening. I tried following :
    1. The same script is there in one more server. I print from there on the same printer. It printes everything.
    2. I tried to print the ITF file of the problamatic labels on the problamatic server. It also prints. Only through script its not printing.
Help me out here.. Please !!!!!
    Thanks

  • Xante 4G Printer not printing correctly

I am having issues printing to a networked Xante accelerwriter 4G from my Mac Pro. Leopard is installed on the machine and everything was working fine until the day I upgraded to the 10.5.6. After the upgrade every print job sent from Indesign CS3 from my custom preset would print on half the page and then get jammed.
In the mean time I have added the same printer from another coworker who is running Tiger (Adding it as a shared printer) When printing to the shared printer with the same preset in Indesign it works fine! Although I have gotten by with this method it is a royal pain since his machine has to be on in order for me to print. These are the things I have tried:
    1. Reinstalled drivers removed printer and readded
    2. Deleted all Presets and recreated
    3. Attempted to delete all printing prefs
Any help would be great... This is very frustrating soon going to go back to Tiger!

Some other things you could try, if you haven't done so already.
    1. Reset the printing system - control click on the Printers list and select Reset.
    2. Ran repair disk permissions. Always a good thing to do after an update.
    3. Download the 10.5.6 Combo update. The sequential updates can 'miss' some things so by running the Combo update you can 'fill the gaps'.
Is it only the preset that is having the problem? If you manually set the same settings as the preset, then does the same problem occur?
FYI - we had issues with ID CS3 where landscape pages were printing as portrait for the second page on; first page would print fine. Therefore you would only get the top half of the page with image on it. The Adobe forum suggested setting the CS3 print dialog to defined by driver, rather than setting the paper size. This worked fine, as long as the paper size was supported by the printer. We've since been provided with an updated driver for our Fiery controller that has resolved this issue.

  • Printer not printing completely

I purchased an HP2540 all in one printer yesterday, hooked it up to my Dell computer, running Windows Vista.  I did the complete set up, downloaded software, registered the printer online, etc.  Everything seemed to be okay until I tried to print the first document.  The page did not print completely. At approximately every inch part of a line  did not print correctly.  The printed line looked faint and only partially printed.  The document did this throughout.  Any solutions?
