Shared printer problems

I have a HP Laserjet 2100 hooked up to a Windows machine. I am able to find the printer on my mac, but when I try to print it goes to a paused state. I have downloaded and installed new driver's from HP, but when I add the printer I only have the original 3 drivers that were there. If any one could help with this problem I would appreciate it.

But why would it do this on all Tiger Macs in my house? I'm assuming it's this way on all Tiger systems. Just Wondering.
I will try to reset printing, but I'm not at home right now. Thanks.

  • HP Laserjet 1020 Shared printer problem

Hello there I have here an HP Laserjet 1020 connected to one machine and shared to 3 others over the network.  Initially the printer works fine. All 3 computers that share the printer are able to print, as well as the host of the printer. However give it 3 days to a week and all of a sudden the printer is no longer able to print.  All shared computers and the host are able to see the printer, send a print job, but nothing happens.  The print queue is empty as if the job was completed. Occasionally if the host of the printer is restarted a print job will execute but very rarely. The only way that I have been able to fix this problem is to delete the printer from all computers. Reinstall drivers and share the printer on the host machine and share the printer on the following 3 computers.  This has become very time consuming as its been done 4 times over the last 3 weeks.  If it helps the host machine and 2 computers run XPSp3 and the 4th computer uses win7.  Any solution that will help fix this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi @rajahp ,
I see by your post that the printer is printing distorted characters. Thanks for providing the screen shot. I can help you.
It looks like a issue with the toner or possible a hardware issue with the printer or fuser.
Inspect the toner cartridge for damage:
    1. Remove the toner cartridge from the product and verify that the sealing tape has been removed.
    2. Check the memory chip for damage.
    3. Examine the surface of the imaging drum on the bottom of the toner cartridge.
CAUTION: Do not touch the roller (imaging drum) on the bottom of the cartridge.
Fingerprints on the imaging drum can cause print-quality problems.
    4. If you see any scratches, fingerprints, toner on the drum or other damage on the imaging drum, replace the toner.
    5. If the imaging drum does not appear to be damaged, rock the toner cartridge gently several times and reinstall it. Print a few pages to see if the problem has resolved.
I have provided a document for cleaning inside the printer and running a cleaning page, resetting the printer and checking the driver settings. Resolving Print Quality Issues.
    Try printing a document again.
    Let me know the results.
What kind of paper are you using?
Try another type of paper to see if you have the same results.
Are you using Genuine HP Toner?
    What is the toner level?
    Have a nice day!

  • Windows Shared Printer - Problem adding: Error 256

Getting error 256 (username and password) when trying to add a windows printer connected to the LAN which is shared.
Any clues to the proper method of doing this?
    Beavis2084

Unfortunately, I think several things can cause that
error. Please try the Advanced Windows Printer via
    Samba technique:
In Printer Setup, click Add, then hold the option key
and click More Printers, select Advanced from the
bottom of the first menu, select Windows printer via
Samba. Enter the URI like this:
    smb://usernameonPC:password@[IP address of
    PC]/printersharename
I have tried your suggestion but no success. To be clear, I used my Windows XP login name for "usernameonPC" and my server name for "IP address of PC" and my printer pool name for "printersharename". Was this right?
I read elsewhere that I should turn on "Sharing" functions on my PC, which I tried. I also read that I need to make sure I have a "network account" which I tried. Nothing is working. Pretty frustrated now. Thanks for your help. Is there anything else I should be trying?

  • Shared Printer Problem?

I'm running windows xp pro service pack 2 as my desktop with an HP PSC 1500 series printer connected to it. I have a Macbook connected wirelessly to the internet and wirelessly to my pc for sharing files, I also have my printer shared wirelessly and reads fine on my other pc laptop. On my mac it reads it but everytime i print from it i get hundreds of pages of just random text when all i printed was a page that says "test" anyone know why it's printing this mess of stuff and not what i want printed?

You are not using the correct driver?
You may need to use a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.

  • Losing Prints on Shared Printer

I posted this on a different discussion and was advised to post here. Here is a link to that post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3834099#3834099
I have searched and searched these discussions to no avail for a fix to my problem. I have found fixes for my Boy Scout troops Windows machine shared print problem, but not for my iMac, so here I go.
I have an iMav DV 400 with an Airport card and an iMac G5 1.9 with Airport Extreme with an Epson Stylus Photo R200 connected to it by USB. All these go through a D-Link DI524 wireless router.
I can print wonderfully with the G5 through USB and the Windows machine through the wireless, but I can't get the G4 to print. The G4 seems to stream the prints to its print spooler, then it disappears from there to wind up in the bit bucket somewhere. Nothing shows in the log of the G5 and the printer never acts like it wants to print.
My son tries to use the G4 for homework, but not being able to print makes it tough.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Todd,
First of all I would have a look at the cups error log (Applications > Utilities > Console > /var/logs/cups/error_log) on the G4. This may give some clues why the job is failing to spool to the G5.
On the G4, can you explain how you are adding the printer. I know that for a number of the Epsons you need to go to More Printers and then select Epson USB before selecting the model. What I don't know is if you still need to do the same for connecting to a shared printer.

  • Problem with shared printer after upgrade to Maverick

    Hi Guys,
I have one iMac and two windows PC which connect to the same WiFi router.
The iMac has a HP LaserJet CP2025 attached to its USB port and shared with other windows PCs with no problem.
Until I upgrade my iMac to Maverick recently, now those PCs cannot see the shared printer anymore.
Do you have any ideas what configuration is changed in the Maverick which could cause this please?
I have been searching through Apple communities and other tech forums and have tried many solution, but still cannot solve this. (I have also tried setting up LDP, but no luck so far)
PS ... Shared files seems to work fine. I can access (read/write) the shared files/folders from windows with no problem (SMB and AFP enable).
Any ideas, pointers or links would be appreciated.

  • HP Deskjet 712c Win 7 Home problem connecting to shared printer on Win XP Pro PC

    Hi,
I am having a problem connecting to a shared printer on my home wireless network. The printer is HP Deskjet 712C. When I had Win XP on all my PCs, I could successfully share the printer from one PC and print to it from any PC. Worked just fine.
However, now I have 2 PCs with Win 7 Home and 1 PC with Win XP Pro. The printer is physically connected to the Win XP box. I have confirmed, on that box, it is being shared. When I try to add the printer on a Win 7 box, I select network printer and get to the point where it needs the driver. It prompts for an INF file. I have no clue where to go from there. I have done the Windows Update thing for Win 7 to update the driver list in the OS. I did see on the Win XP box that there's a place where I can load various drivers to the network for different OSs. I'm guessing that's so the appropriate drivers for those OSs will be available when adding the shared printer in those OSs. Of course, Win Vista and Win 7 are not available there. Is there any way I can share the printer from my Win XP box to my Win 7 boxes?
Also, I've tried physically connecting the printer to one of my Win 7 boxes to share it from there, but I have probems there just getting Win 7 to see the printer correctly. I'm using a Parallel - USB converter cable. When I plug it in, Win 7 sees the printer as a IEEE-1394 device instead of a printer. Even when I install the HP Deskjet 712C drivers in the OS driver list, and select the USB001 port, it tells me the printer is not plugged in, but I know it is.
I would love to hear some ideas! Please help!
    Thanks

  • Problem sending output directly to a shared printer

    Hi.
I am having problems in generating character reports output directly to my printers, my situation is as follows:
We have a Windows 2003 server running an application server 10g and a forms and reports application, if I connect a printer directly to the server my report output is printed perfectly, the problem starts when I try to print from any client machine, since windows does not let you rename a shared printer (it lets you rename the printer in the machine to witch it is connected but in any other machine sharing this printer Windows appends a "on machineX" to the printer name so this poses a problem when trying to pass a desname parameter to reports since it contains spaces.
I solved this issue by adding a local printer to the server machine pointing to a local port that connects this printer to the physical printer in the client machine, this works all right to print from windows (notepad, DOS print command everything prints perfectly). But my reports won’t print. Whenever I send a report to this printer the job gets into the spool but in the status says "error-printing", this only happens when the jobs are sent directly to the printer. If I lookup the job in the reports server queue it appears as correctly finished.
I can even lookup the .txt file from the reports cache and issuing a DOS print command prints the job without issues in my shared printer.
Hope someone can help me out in this one since I am running out of ideas as to how to solve this issue.
    Thanks

I forgot one important piece which is why I am asking the question. I am running the report within an Oracle 10g form. I pass all the parameters across to the Reports Server, as seen above. When I run via the PDF option, I just change the DesType to Cache and DesFormat =PDF. When I run with this, it works and displays the report in a new browser window.
I just want to run the report with the exact same parameters but instead of generating a PDF, I want to run the report and send it directly to the printer without previewing it.

  • Parental control problem printing to a shared printer

    Hello chaps,
    Here's an annoying one.
Two Macs, both running OS X 10.6.3. They are both on a wireless LAN, once has a Canon Pixma 4200 printer directly connected via USB with Printer Sharing turned on - Everyone allowed to print.
The problem: When my wife prints to the shared printer from her machine it works fine. When my kids try to print from their Parental Control-controlled account it doesn't.
The job comes up in the print queue but with On hold (authentication required) next to it.
The account has the box ticked to allow administration of Printers.
I can find no place to Authenticate, to get the job to print, even via the CUPS Web interface (that I'm not an expert in).
    All clues gratefully received.
    Anyone have anu clues

  • File Sharing & Printer Sharing Problem

I have an Intel Duo Core 20" and an older G4 Flat Panel iMac. Both were connected to my old airport extreme with few or no problems. File sharing, printer sharing etc. worked great with virtually no delays.
I recently purchased and installed the new Airport Extreme. Both computers connect to the network created with no problem, ie: the internet, however when I try to connect from the Duo Core to the G4 via the network for file sharing,or printer sharing, my Duo Core freezes. The file sharing settings for both computers are set appropriately as before. I have shut off file sharing for both, restarted, then turned on file sharing on both but the issue continues.
Any suggestions? I'm pretty 'Apple Savy' but not a 'genious'.

Sorry..one other note that may help in narrowing this down. When I go to print, the printer that is connected to the G4, shows up on the 'shared printers' list, however, it just never connects when selected. Just the 'beach ball of death'.

  • Problem Connecting to Shared Printer on Leopard from Windows XP

    Hey guys,
Just installed Leopard yesterday, and I have a Canon PIXMA MP160 printer connected via USB.
I have set the printer to be Shared, and enabled Printer Sharing in the Sharing preferences.
However, when I try and connect to the printer from a Windows XP laptop, it says: Access Denied, Unable to Connect.
I imagine that this is because I would have provide a username / password combo in order to access the network resources on my Leopard machine. I just can't figure out how to send the credentials, or disable the login necessity if needs be.
If this isn't the problem, or if it cannot be fixed then the alternative is to connect the printer to my router, which shares it via SMB. Now that's fine when I want to connect to it from Windows, but I can't figure out a way to set it up on Leopard.
The MP160 driver that comes with Leopard isn't marked as "Modern" which, according to the documentation means that it cannot be used to install IP or Windows Shared printers.
So my question is, to sum up, is there a way to fix the access problem when trying to access a shared printer on Leopard from Windows, and is there any way I can install and use the printer from Leopard while its shared from my Router via SMB?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edit:
I just thought it would be helpful to say that I'm able to connect and browse through SMB shares from Windows Systems, and I'm able to connect and browse through shared volumes on Leopard from Windows. It's just the printing that's not playing fair.

I had Bonjour for Windows working on two XP machines before I upgraded to Leopard. After that when the Bonjour printer would not work I deleted it from the XP machines and re-ran the Bonjour Setup App. It can find the printer every time, but it will not finish and will give me an error instead.
I've also verified that I have Printer Sharing turned on and the printer is specifically set to be shared. I'm out of ideas.
Has anyone heard reports of Bonjour 1.0.4 not working with Leopard or just being buggy under similar circumstances? If that's not the problem, then I must be missing something. Suggestions welcome.

  • Problems printing Acrobat documents on shared printer

I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro. I also have an Epson 1400 printer.
When I print any Acrobat document using the printer hooked up directly to my MacBook, it prints perfectly.
When I print the same Acrobat document using the printer hooked up directly to the Mac Pro, it prints perfectly.
However, when I hook the printer to the Mac Pro and enable printer sharing, and then print the same document from the MacBook Pro using the shared printer via the network, the Acrobat document is reduced in size by around 50%. I have checked every possible setting and just can't find why this is happening.
Thanks in advance for any help!

The problem occurs not only through Acrobat. The prints have the correct size through the Mac only when the printer is directly connected via USB on the Macs but reduced size through the network. The problem occurs in any printer model on the network.
I do not know how to solve this problem but curiously does not occur with Windows computers with Bonjour that prints to the printers connected to Macs.
    When Apple will fix this?

  • Windows sharing of HP P1102 printer, letter printing problems

    Hi
I have a P1102 connected to PC1 via USB, which is working fine. I have PC2 connected to the printer via windows sharing.
When PC2 tries to print a letter (manual feed), a pop-up appears on PC1, and there is no way for PC2 to continue with the letter print untill the PC1 pop-up is cleared. In order to continue with the print job, you have to access PC1 to select 'continue' on the popup dialogue box, at which point the manually placed envelope is printed
Is there any way to stop this behaviour on letter prints for the shared printer?
(PS. I have tried diabling Status messages however this did not help, neither PC could print letters)
    Thanks

  • Leopard shared printing driver problems

When using USB printers shared on a machine running Tiger, the page orientation settings in Adobe applications don't work properly when sent from a machine running Leopard. Is this a known problem?

There is a known issue with the EFI (Fiery) print controllers and the Adobe CS2 and CS3 suite, where the second and subsequent pages of a landscape document will print in portrait, with the content still in landscape and consequently running off the edge of the page. EFI released a driver update to resolve the issue, after spending many weeks stating that it was an Adobe problem.
As for your setup, I am not aware of a problem with a Tiger USB shared printer when printing from Leopard. But then we mostly print from the Adobe suite via Ethernet - not USB - and certainly no sharing between Leopard and Tiger.

  • Problem setting up shared printer between PC and Mac with 10.6

I am trying to setup a shared printer between my Mac and PC. I have a HP K80 attached to my PC (which has Vista Home Premium). I have a Macbook pro with 10.6. I have shared the printer on the PC side. From the Mac I have added the printer via Windows Printer sharing, but for some reason I cannot print to the printer. Printing to a Shared PC Printer
This article describes how to print from Mac OS X to a shared printer connected to a Windows XP machine. It assumes the computers are already networked and that you can access the PC's files. These instructions are relevant for Mac OS X 10.2 upwards. The instructions may work with Vista. I don't have the means to try it.
    1. Find the IP address of your PC - go on Start > Run. Type in cmd and click run. Now type in ipconfig /all and hit enter. This should give you the machine's IP address.
    2. Share the printer. Open up Printers and find the one you want to share. Right-click and choose Share. Now click the 'Share this printer' radio button. Now choose a sharing name. Keep it simple - e.g. HP, Office, PC etc.
    3. Open a web browser on your Mac and type localhost:631 in the address bar
    4. You should now have the Common UNIX Printing System web interface up. Click the 'Add Printer' link.
    5. Type a name for the printer, making sure you don't include /, # or space characters. Click continue.
    6. Select Windows Printer via SAMBA from the Device list and click continue.
    7. For the URI, you need to include a username and password for an account on your PC. You then need to enter a URI in the following format: smb://username:password@ipaddress/printer. So for example smb://johndoe:[email protected]/HP
    8. Choose your printer's make, or if you have a PPD file for the printer, choose that. Click continue and choose your printer's model. Now click Add Printer.
    9. Done! You now have a list of options for changing the various properties of the printer.
You don't need to be on the same workgroup or domain as your PC, just the same subnet. If both your Mac and PC are connected to the same router, either wired or wirelessly, then you should be on the same subnet.
    Thanks guys
