Shared smtp namespace in mixed environment (2003 & 2010)

Hi,
I have a mixed exchange enviornmnement (2003+2010).
As far as I know in exchange 2010 we use internal relay for shared namespaces. And "This Exchange Organization is responsible for all mail delivery to this address" in ex 2003 recipient policies.
My question is : when set the option on one side (2003 or 2010) will it be applied to the other side(other version) automatically?
Thanks

Hi,
Yes. Based on my knowledge, it will trust each other automatically.
Thanks

  • Shared SMTP Namespace: InternalRelay domains and mail loops

    Hello Folks,
I've got a problem understanding the usage of "InternalRelay" domains in conjunction with a shared mail-domain, hopefully someone can help me out:
    I have the following situation:
    Company A:
Exchange Server using "xy.com" as "InternalRelay" domain and a SendConnector for "xy.com" to Company B
    Company B:
Vice versa, Exchange using "xy.com" as "InternalRelay" domain and SendConnector for "xy.com" to Company A
Both companies (partially) use "xy.com" as primary SMTP addresses for their mailboxes.
Now - to my understanding - when a user in Company A sends a mail to a non-existing Mailaddress in the "xy.com", this mail will generate a mail loop, as both exchange servers forward the mail to each other (--> please correct me if this
assumption is wrong! i didn't have the possibility to practically test it) until one of them breaks the loop by discarding the mail with an NDR.
To avoid this, i've tried to configure recipientFiltering (setting RecipientValidationEnabled and additionally "AddressBookEnabled" on the "xy.com" AcceptedDomain) on Company A's Exchange Server (and creating Contacts in Company A for
every valid xy.com recipient in Company B). However, Exchange is still forwarding every unknown xy.com Recipient to Company B and doesn't reject invalid recipients by itself as i thought it would.
The "Recipient filter" Transport agent is enabled of course.
I'd be glad on any hint you can give me on this topic.
    Thanks in advance,
    Juergen

    Hello Folks,
A tiny little comment on technet (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/bb676395%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx) states:
"For mail looping, you can create contacts for the users present in other domain using any GAL sync tools (eg: ILM, Qwest etc).
When you have contacts created, you can leave the domain as authoritative domain and if the mail is destined to that contact, it will use a matching address space connector and send it to the other domain if you have specified that other domain server
as the smart host in that connector."
So I've adopted my test-setup and reset the "xy.com" domain to an "authorative" AcceptedDomain and voila, everything works as expected:
    * on-site mails to "*@xy.com" are delivered locally
    * off-site mails to "*@xy.com" are delivered through the appropiate send-connector if an AD-contact exists
    * non-existing mail addresses are NDRed by the local Exchange
Beside the fact, that Company A and B need to keep their AD Contacts for each other up to date, does anyone see any disadvantage or even failure-potential in this setup?
    Thanks in advance,
    yours,
    Juergen

  • SMTP Namespace Sharing between two mail system

I have used two mail server (Exchange 2013 and Linux sendmail) for mailing in the same domain like abc.com.
I have converted authoritative domain in to internal relay for sending mail in Linux mail user, and create a send connector point to Linux mail system as a smart host. in that case my exchange user send mail to Linux user and internet via Linux smart host,
then I create a receive connector in exchange server for receiving mail from Linux mail system as edge transport custom connector & permission set to anonymous, when Linux user send mail to my exchange user it queued in my exchange message queue and
    the error is:
Last Error:A local loop was detected.
    What's the problem?

    Hi rana78,
As Nathan mentioned, please create Contacts.
    Detailed information:
So to avoid NDRs when using shared SMTP namespace you will need to either disable recipient filtering, configure the product to do LDAP queries against all directories that share the namespace, or create Contacts.

  • Namespace for Exchange 2003 == 2010 == 2013 Migration

    Hi
Hope someone can help.  I am working on an Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration, which will then quickly move onto a 2010 to 2013 migration and need some clarification on the namespaces to use.  I am aware that if I do not do this right at the 2003
to 2010 migration, this will cause a headache at the 2010 to 2013 migration.
    Some background:
    2003 Functional Level Domain - 2 x 2008 DC's
Currently users are on a 2003 exchange cluster with a mix of RPC (internal users) and RPC over HTTP connections (roaming users)
We will be installing Exchange 2010 on a single server, with CAS, HUB and Mailbox roles and no load balancer, as we will be moving quickly to 2013.
We have two Kemp load balancers ready for Exchange 2013.
Exchange 2010 is installed on a single server (exh2010.domain.local) and configured with an CAS array name (exh-cas.domain.local) which is resolvable internally only.
Currently we have multiple smtp namespaces e.g. @company.com, @company2.com.
Our main website etc is www.company.com
Our public facing services are at https://service.mycompany.com
Our 2003 RPC address is https://webmail.mycompany.com
I understand that the 2010 RPC CAS array name should be separated from the Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTPS) address so that when 2013 takes over the HTTPS address, the RPC connections are not broken.
    Two Questions:
Do we have to use the HTTPS same namespace for 2013 as we do in 2010?  Its just I would want to test the Kemp load balancers before making them live (slow careful transition), and giving them a different namespace, e.g.
https://mail.mycompany.com would allow a migration, rather then a cutover.
Can we use the *.mycompany.com address rather then the company.com address, even though we have no SMTP addresses at mycompany.com?  Can autodiscover still work?
Thanks in advance for any guidance
    Cheers
    Steve

    1. No, but you can.  Exchange 2013 will proxy all services for Exchange 2010, so if you set up everything right, you should be able to simply swing the name from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
    2.  Your web services can be published with any domain as long as the hostname is in the certificate.  Only Autodiscover needs to match the e-mail domain(s).  So in your example, you could publish OWA, ECP, ActiveSync, Web Services and OAB
at owa.mycompany.com.  You would need autodiscover.company.com, autodiscover.company2.com, etc., but if you don't have e-mail addresses with mycompany.com, you don't need autodiscover.mycompany.com.  If all users have a company.com e-mail address,
the you only need autodiscover.company.com as long as users know to enter that e-mail address when configuring profiles on PCs or devices.  If you're going to have to have Autodiscover for multiple domains, then you might consider using an SRV record
instead because it can greatly simplify your certificate requirements.

  • Configuring SMTP Namespace Sharing between two Exchange Forests on the same LAN

Hi guys, really hoping that someone can help me with configuring SMTP Namespace Sharing between two Exchange Forests on the same LAN.
Basically, I have created a new forest and installed a new exchange organisation in this forest.  Both forests are located on the same IP subnet and a two way trust has been created between the forests.  Federated sharing has also been configured.
I can use ADMT to migrate the user and computer accounts to the new forest and also migrate test mailboxes over.  Ideally, I want to be able to do the mailbox migrations in stages so will need to be able to have mail flowing between the two forests.
I have read over the following article (http://ibrahimnore.wordpress.com/2012/09/06/configuring-smtp-namespace-sharing-between-two-exchange-forests-part-2/)
which is good but it's demonstrating over the internet, can anybody advise how this can be achieved on the local LAN?
    Any help greatly appreciated :-)

    Hi Gilliano,
Thanks for correct link. I must say this is a very good article indeed, I read the entire article and if you go to the 3rd part of this article, please note the text "DOMAINC.COM is configured as Internal Relay Accepted Domain on both the domains"
This is exactly what I asked you to check. Personally, I understand the method described in this article will work but its very complex to manage and administer, while the easiest option is to configure internal relay at the first place and no need to make
so many DNS changes and customizations to your environment.
The solution really depends on what your requirement is - Since you mentioned that you are migrating stuff over from source to destination - I feel this article is too complex for your situation and not really worth (for your requirement). The setup described
in the article is an excellent choice if you are planning to keep both forests alive for longer duration due to several reasons like compliance or company mergers and so on...
please let me know if my explanation is not clear enough.. we can even even have a one-on-one email conversation too!
    All the best!

  • Remote desktop connection limit in windows 2003 administration as well as in the mixed environment of windows 2003 and 2008 servers

RDP protocol i.e. Remote desktop connection is configured to perfrom and manage  software administration of ORACLE application and database servers which runs on windows 2003 server.   Two sessions are allowed on each of these servers for database
    administrators. The question is:
    a) if network administrators who perform window server administration (50+) are included in
2 sessions limit or do they manage all these servers through Console Session which is separate from the remote desktop connection limits of 2 sessions.
    b) How is the 2 sessions  limit prescribed by microsoft (more of a licensing limit) handled in the mix environment of windows 2003 and 2008 server where all these servers are managed on the VMWARE?
    avnish sharma

    Hi Avnish,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
By default any windows server will provide 2 remote session for administration purpose only. No matter which administrator is accessing that server. If you will connect the console session then 3.One server is accessed by 3 Session (console + Remote +
Remote). When the particular server reached this limit then any working administrator will receive a message to log out as other user trying to access the session or if we had provided the setting then new user is restricted to login.
If you want more than 2 remote desktop session than you need to purchase TS\RDS CAL, install TS\RD Licensing role, activate it first and then configure CAL on it. There are 2 types of CAL available (USER & DEVICE). You can purchase CAL according to your
    company requirements.
    Hope it helps to understand!
    Thanks.

    i have exchange 2003 -2010 co-existence environment .
Everything works fine accept below;weird issue,i tried to re-create routing group connector but issue is same.

  • 2003/2010 co-existence - is it safe to create recipient policies under 2010?

I'm pretty sure this won't affect anything, but just want to be 100% sure.
Exchange 2003/2010 are in co-existence happily working away
The existing Exchange 2003 recipient policies are a real mess
To save having to fix them all up, the plan is to just create new ones under Exchange 2010 and scope them to apply for users on 2010
When all users are moved to 2010, the old ones can be removed which saves having to upgrade them to all to 2010 format which is another bonus
Will creating new recipient policies under 2010 apply to recipients on 2003 or force the 2003 policies to run again somehow against existing users, or can recipient policues under 2010 be set to only apply to users in 2010 using a custom attribute for example
and when users are moved to 2010 with the custom attribute the policy can be enforced at that time?  All the current polices are set to applied = false under 2003.

I have experience with messing up in this scenario :) in a 20,000 user environment.
E-Mail address policies are shared across the Exchange Organization so you will see ones created in 2010 in 2003, although you won't be able to edit those.  Having the 2003 policies set to false means that they haven't been applied in some time and
its best not to touch during the migration.  My first step here (after making a mistake) is to Disabled the Automatic Email Update for all mailboxes.  I can look up how I did this on a mass scale a little later.
I then created the policies in 2010 to use a custom attribute, as you had suggested, and when mailboxes were migrated over, I made sure those accounts had the Attribute and then checked the box to auto apply the address policy.
Someone else may have a better answer for you, but this is how I saved my butt in a larger organization.

  • Exchange 2003 -2010 cross forest (NDR 5.4.6)

    Hi.
Have: Exchange 2003+2010 in source forest. Exchange 2010 in target forest.
Successful migrate mailbox to target forest (in source forest this mailbox convert to mailuser).
When try send e-mail to this mailbox (it`s in target forest) from Exchange 2003 mailbox get this:
A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients.
If send from Exchange 2010 (source/target) - all mail ok.
If delete this mailuser (in source forest) - all set to ok.
    x500?
    Please, help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In the error event, 5.4.6 means "Routing loop detected" (RFC1893).
This issue occurs if the source Exchange organization is authoritative for the target domain. Because the source Exchange organization is responsible for mail delivery to target, the categorizer tries to find locally a recipient for
that message. The categorizer does not succeed, and then you receive the NDR.
More details in the following KB:
You receive an NDR with a 5.4.6 status code when you send a message to a specific domain in Exchange

  • 802.11n greenfield in a mixed environment

we plan to have mixed 802.11n deployment coexistence with a/b/g clients. But we want to have some classrooms or labs to run greenfield only where people request 100Mbps bandwidth to transfer large images. What is the best practice to design some small greenfield areas in the mixed environment? And what is the best way to prevent 802.11a users to associate to our 1140s?

  • Running Portlets in a Mixed Environment

We are running Oracle9iAS Portal on an HP Unix box. We have noticed that many of the third party portlets like Business Objects, and SiteScape are only supported on NT and Sun Solaris, and some on Linux and Compaq Tru64 Unix. Although they are not explicitly supported on HP-UX, would they still operate on HP-UX?
Alternatively, is it feasible to run these portlets in a mixed environment of NT and HP Unix? If the portlets are only supported on NT, then we would need a seperate instance of Portal on an NT box to support those portlets. Would we have to run two versions and instances of the 9iAS Application Server, and if so, would we have to run seperate instances of the Portal schema also?
    so,
    1) Is it feasible to run two instances of Portal and perhaps have the information on the two different servers (NT and HP-UX) be synchronized?
    2) Or would it be possible to share the HP-UX Portal schema between the 9i Application Servers on both NT and HP-UX?

    Henry,
Thank you for the thought. The windows machines are connected by wire to the LAN. At the moment, we are only supporting wireless for apple products.
I have spent a significant amount of time on this issue since the original post, and have concluded that my original plan is untenable. For this to work the way I had hoped it seems I would have to establish a central DHCP server and not use the "Distribute IP Addresses" capability of the AEBS. The subsequent question is, will wireless apple computers pick up a DHCP IP address in this setup?
    Thanks again.

  • File web links in mixed environment

We're deploying macs on a pretty large scale in a mixed environment, and there are many internal sites that use the file:// header to link to files. Being windows -specific, this only works in Internet Explorer.
Is there an alternative to use with Firefox? I'm sure we could if/then the links for the different operating systems. The file servers are not running web services or ftp, unfortunately, so we would be limited to samba use.
Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided.
Powerbooks   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   also use Minis

Here's an update on a possible solution. Firefox, by default, has local file viewing (file:// links) disabled. This can be enabled, and if the correct Windows directory is mounted, then it can be accessed on OS X by created a link such as
    file:///Volumes/servername/dir/file.extension

  • 7920 and 7921G mixed environment

Hi Team, have you any experiences with both 7920 and 7921G in the same WLAN? My Customer is using WLC440x w AP1242. How to Configuree the SSID Parameters regarding QOS and CAC, have you any hints? Thx, Regards, Michael

The big issue here is with CAC/TSPEC.
The 7921 gives precedence to TSPEC over QBSS for CAC as TSPEC can be utilized for inbound and outbound CAC, where QBSS is just for outbound dialing.
4.1 release for the Cisco WLAN controller has the load based CAC feature. This means it will account for all traffic and energy on the channel, not just the # of TSPEC clients on a given AP.
So if wanting to enable CAC/TSPEC in mixed environment of 7920 and 7921, would want to ensure you use 4.1 release and enable load based CAC.
If 7921 will be in G mode, it will send out the CTS to self for G protection, which the 7920 will adhere to.
The other is capacity. If you have calls at 11mbps or other 802.11b rates, then capacity will get reduced.
Typically can get up to 10 RTP streams per AP @ 11 mbps and up to 20 calls @ 24 mbps or higher.
