Shared technology issue

Good afternoon,
I hope someone is able to help me out as the Adobe help team is not. They even withdrew my case while it has not been solved. I wan't to say a few ugly words about that but as that will not help I won't.
Here's the deal:
I owned and used adobe photoshop elements 10.
Thougt I'd move forward by purchasing version 11
Uninstalled 10,
tried to install 11.
Now it's on, Same problem as I think a billion other people are having. Shared technologies refuse.
Logged a case, sent in the log, tried the forum hints still no further.
Making things even worse, I cannot even reinstall 10 at the moment. It also stops.
Log says no problems,
New admistrator account, no help
Disable UAC, no help
Stopped services etc. no help.
Run the installer as admistrator, no joy
I even looked on the cd for the shared technologies, big surprise, they WILL install when started seperately.
is it me or is this just a bad program pretending to be a good one?
PLEASE HELP, I'm without photo processing power now.
If adobe is listening in, my case number was  #0183986706 and has been withdrawn for no apparant reason. Even worse, I work during days, so am unable to try and call the halpdesk during office hours, keeping me in the pickle
Robert

Success, Solution found; for future reference I will include the steps supplied by an Adobe helpdesk employee suggested after reopening the case. I add a few comments to somewhat correct the answer to have it work in my environment:
1. create a new admin account Adobe Test; http://helpx.adobe.com/nl/x-productkb/global/create-local-administrator-account-windows.ht ml
note; the suggested route in the link is probably for a company network environment; just go to the configuration and add a new user with an administration role.
2. Start windows in a changed mode: http://helpx.adobe.com/nl/x-productkb/global/restart-windows-modified-mode-windows.html
3. reboot and start as the new created admin user
4. Copy all files of the CD to C:\ PSE11 Installer\ (the 11 is the version number, should also work for PSE10 etc)
note: additional step; Deinstall all software that starts with ADOBE. i.e. reader / flash / download manager etc.; if this is not done step 5 might not be possible for all directories.
5. rename the following directies bij adding OLD to the name. Note: sometimes an additional approval needs to be granted (just click YES/OK on the question)
     C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe               => C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe OLD
     C:\Program Files (86x)\Common Files\Adobe       => C:\Program Files (86x)\Common Files\Adobe OLD
     C:\Program Files\Adobe                                     => C:\Program Files\Adobe OLD
     C:\Program Files (86x)\Adobe                          => C:\Program Files (86x)\Adobe OLD
6. start the installation from C:\ PSE11 Installer\
note: from this directory start the AutoPlay.exe
7. Step not mentioned and not yet performed by me: cleanup the C:\ PSE11 Installer\?? Think this should be possible as the installation was succesfull.
8. Step not mentioned but performed, reverse the steps done in step 2 (i.e. msconfig changed services and startup)
Some of the links might be the dutch ones, but I think should also be available in English.
Finaly I can start using PSE11.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help
Robert

  • Installing PSE10 Shared technology issue on windows 8.1

This is about the millionth time I have typed this due to the rubbish nature of this forum...ie when you type ask a question in the box it then directs you to this page so you have to type all over again!
    I am currently mega frustrated
I have PSE 10 and put it on my new pc running windows 8.1. It all seemed to be working but today when i tried to open the photo editor it would not open. So I did as requested and uninstalled then tried to reinstall but now I have the shared technology issue mentioned in many places on the forum.
I have tried all the fixes mentioned. i have even tried restoring the computer to a previous version but all to no avail. I am wasting my few precious editing hours trying to get the app working and I am really fed up. Can anyone please tell me whether PSE 10 works properly on window 8.1. If not I will be buying a different package

Open Regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
Delete this key under Session Manager "PendingFileRenameOperations". Restart the installation and it will work fine.

  • Premiere Elements 11 Shared Technologies error DW020 Adobe Flash Player 10 plug in missing.

I am unable to complete the install of Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on my Windows7 Pro 64 bit system.  When the installation process gets to installing Shared Technologies I get an error message "The installation process has encountered an error while installing Shared Technologies.  Please restart your system and try again."  Restarting the system gives the same result again.  The download assistant program identifies two errors: DW050--Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX: Install failed, and DW020: Adobe Flash CS5.5 depends on Adobe Flash Player 10 plugin to be installed.
My system currently has Adobe Flash player 11.7.700.224 installed.  I can find a download of Adobe Flash Player 10 but where do I put it?  Do I need to uninstall Adobe Flash Player 11.7... ?  Is there another solution?

This install problem seems to be solved.  I uninstalled every Adobe program, but still couldn't get past the Shared Technologies issue.  Then I went to C://Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Adobe/ and deleted all recent folders & files.  This seemed to do it.  Both Premiere Elements 11 and Photoshop Elements completed installation.  Now on to figuring out how to force Windows7 64 bit to run these programs in 32 bit simulation mode.

  • Adobe Premier Elements 12 Installation fail at Shared Technologies

Install continually fairls at shared technologies installation.. use of adobe support adviser did not find any issues... installed in bundle with photoshop elements and neither editing software works but the organizer works...any ideas? Oh and all installation attempts with adobe application manager fail almost instantly too! On windows 7 64 bit

That shared technologies issue has a long history with variable fixes. What works for some does not for another. It hits various versions of Premiere Elements and different computer operating systems.
This long thread will get you an idea of the history and home remedies.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4950564
What worked for me was installation disc with an external DVD burner and USB 3 computer port for Photoshop Elements 10/Premiere Elements 10 and Photoshop Elements 11/Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 8 64 bit.
You can review the different approaches. But, I suspect that the key is to keep trying. Deactivate (if you got that far), uninstall, ccleaner run through, reinstall. Just when you are about ready to give up, it installs. (very non technical view).
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thanks.

  • What a victory: failed installs due to "shared technology" errors returns endless threads via Google

I purchased PSE 10 (download) and lit up an install. It failed. I searched Google and oddly, the moment I hit the terms "photoshop elements 10 install fail" I got 40-50 results for "shared technology" failures. You guys are failure stars!
By the way, I cannot thank you enough for wasting my day like this. Back in the old days one had to visit microsoft.com to waste an entire ******** day trying to get their poorly engineered product installed, after it's failed endlessly to do as expected. Bill would be proud, if he weren't busy out there earning billions of dollars by giving away millions...which is nicer than what I have to say about you right now. Who needs time with their kids? Install PSE!!! It's a great time soak!
So, with that, I beg of you to please start sending me the usual asinine, nonworking fixes-in-a-box to get this product installed on my machine, even though we both know it won't work. Meanwhile, I have purchased downloaded, installed, and started using the Corel's latest version of PSP, which nearly FLEW into my hard drive and immediately worked right out of the box. Boy, they suck, huh? No. They don't. You do.
I've followed the hilariously funny and equally useless advice on your help forums (my favorite: " If you are using a downloaded installer, or running the installation from the hard drive, the Shared Technologies can fail because of the installation path. Copy the installation files to a folder to the root of the drive." Really? So you're saying "to install this stupid product, first you must fix our stupid mistake." Love you. Truly, I do.) and nothing has worked. I assume you will end up pointing at Microsoft and calling them bad, since every other app on my computer works without this moronic, yet remarkably popular, failure.
And even if we get this (endlessly) failed implementation to work - emphasis on IF - I will probably de-install it and demand a refund, depending on whether PSP has their product up to par, which is far more likely than Adobe having a working fix.
Now, I will say for the record that I have been harsh, and snide, and nasty. I am tired, and frustrated, and it's been four hours, and I have had enough. Having said that, deal with it. I am your customer (for the moment). Why do I need to ask you to make your product work? Isn't that the point? Is it? Helloooo?

It has occurred to me that Adobe's support people may be cowards. Then again, I am being a jerk, and it's probable they may have read my comments and said "screw this guy." I might say that. Then again, if I worked for a world-class company like Adobe I might step up and defend my product.
Then again, I might not, because they fell off the tracks some time ago and failed to stay in sync with the technologies they need to work with (read: Microsoft) to the degree they have Google reflecting:
a.) Adobe's level of failure in compatibility given the immediate and numerous responses to the simple keywords "elements fail" returning an astonishing number of responses (mine at the top lately) and...
b.) Adobe's own technical staff offering roughly a dozen differing, non-working fixes to the issue and...
c.) Adobe's studied and intentional avoidance of my emails, this thread, and hilariously worthless chat support.
It is very likely the source of the issue is an administrator profile glitch on the MS side, or perhaps an MSI issue, but good luck getting that clarified from Adobe.
    They!
    Don't!!
    Know!!!
And they don't care. All I can say about that is I am glad I only dropped sixty-odd bucks on this product rather than seven-odd hundred for CS6. Maybe I'd get support if I had, but these snotty threads would be YouTubed, Reddited, and published in the local paper.
Next: there has been a breakthrough! An amazing breakthrough!
Among the many useless and stupid bits of advice Adobe's staff throw around on the support site, there is a great recommendation to try to load the product in safe mode. Last night I booted into safe mode and tried to run the installer, which of course immediately popped a dialog box stating it couldn't run in safe mode, so there's Adobe's great advice for you. While I was laughing and taking screen shots for posterity I glanced at my desktop, and there it was: the Photoshop Elements 10 icon. What are you doing there? I double clicked, and viola! It was loaded all along! Opened right up with that blue screen with a thousand names of the dev team.
Wait. What? I thought it rolled back? It SAID it rolled back the install. No? That 5 minutes it spends “rolling back” it just pretends to roll back, deletes the icon, leaving my computer polluted with a product I already got a refund on from Amazon? Really?
Anyway I rebooted back into my normal state and lo and behold, the PSE 10 icon is still there on my desktop. It did not install from safe mode. It had been installed from the beginning, and for whatever reason booting into safe mode and rebooting back seems to fix whatever idiotic and mindless failure Adobe built into this thing which they couldn't otherwise help me fix. Plain reboots did not do this: only booting into and back out of safe mode.
Thinking I was imagining things, I got up this morning and checked. Yep. There it is on my desktop, working as if it had been there all along and I hadn't been ignored, avoided, led astray, given stupid advice, or sold a product that clearly wasn't ready for sale. PSE 10. Working. Seemingly fully functional. Glory be.
Now, since I am the one who fixed it, I was thinking Adobe should pay me. I spent about 10 hours fuming over this thing, and I bill $65 an hour as a consultant. I realize that I am not an Adobe coder or support specialist, but I fixed it and should be compensated for my time at my rate. A bonus is in order as well - call it pain and suffering. 10X$65 plus a little sweetener, let's call it a thousand bucks. What do you say, Adobe? Are you going to award my ingeniousness and brilliance? You couldn't handle it, and still can't, but I did it. Me. The bitchy, whiny one infesting your support board with angry hate. You owe me.
Yeah, I didn’t think so. Anyway, I have always liked PSE and have used past versions to great success. I think I will like PSE10 just as much, regardless the fact my view of Adobe is that much dimmer for the shamefully bad experience of late. This has been a pretty sucky couple of days, and from the boards and complaints I have found out it's the exception rather than the rule, but exceptional nonetheless.
Now I shall screenshot this thread and publish it everywhere I can find a place for it. I will call out the responses I received from Adobe (none) and the great support I received from Adobe (none) and the quality service I received from Adobe (none). Then I will do my level best to remember what the heck I was doing that made me want to buy PSE in the first place: there was a photo of...something, and I wanted to...do something. What was it? I've spent so much time in Adobe FailShop I have forgotten what I was doing here in this bottomless abyss of fail...
Ta taa, Adobe Support. Love you, really I do. True story.

  • Premiere Elements 11 gives error "encountered a problem installing shared technologies" and does not install.

I have Photoshop Elements 11 installed but Premiere Elements will not install due to the problem installing shared technologies. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to fix the issue. I tried the installation several times.

    205EdMLewis
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on? For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. Are you installing the program from
an installation disc or from installation files?
The Shared Technologies error is an old story that afflicts several versions of Premiere Elements on several different computer operating systems. My encounters with this error
have been using installation disc for the program involved.
There are numerous home remedies. The one that has been working for me lately and consistently has been the disabling of the OOBE Folder which is found
    Local Disk C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder is the OOBE which you disable by changing the folder name from OOBE to OLDOOBE.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
    Do not give up.

  • Problem installing Adobe Photoshop Elements "Shared Technologies" solved

I was contacted by Adobe Support.  They remotely took over my computer.  Disabled the Antivirus and Firewall temporarily until restart after installation.  Then created a file labelled ADOBE.  I put in the disc and they downloaded the APE 10 to the folder, selected the SET UP icon, selected Administrator and began the installation.  It didn't get hung up at the "Shared Technologies" this time and was successfully downloaded. I appreciate their patience and help.  It seems the problem is system specific and it is a bit frustrating, but it is solved.

    Sorry for the trouble, 907Faribanks.
There was an issue with some of the Shared Technologies, so you'll need to update the installer. The instructions for doing so are here: http://adobe.ly/KB92579
Let us know if we can help further.

  • Solution: The installation process has encountered an error while installing Shared Technologies

I purchased an upgrade to Elements 11 and Premiere 11 for Windows a couple of days ago. When I tried to install, I received the following error message:
"The installation process has encountered an error while installing Shared Technologies. Please restart your system and try again."
There was an invitation to Troubleshoot using a button that downloaded Adobe Support Advisor. No joy, it didn't find any issues.
I restarted and tried to install again. Same error message. The solutions here didn`t help so I started up a chat with Adobe Support.
The TSR asked me to run  Set-Up.exe in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Install\PSE 11\ElementsSTIInstaller. That returned an error about the path being too long. He had me try some other ideas, none worked.
The TSR then asked to do a remote session. After realizing that it would not work from  the install on our server, he copied the PSE11 directory locally. He again ran Set-up.exe from the PSE 11\ElementsSTIInstaller directory. This time it completed!
After that, he ran Setup.exe in the PSE11 directory. This time, the setup completed and I was able to open Elements 11!
Hope this helps someone else who gets this error message!
    Best,
    John

    Welcome to the forum.
Take a look at this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5200642#5200642
That OP found that the problem with their installation was due to Norton running, during the installation, but there are other links, with maybe other solutions.

  • Am trying to reinstall photoshop elements/premiere elements 9 back on my pc but when it gets to installing shared technologies it freezes and then rolls back.

I don't know what is going on with this. Photoshop worked but the premiere elements suddenly kept freezing so I un installed and am trying to reinstall but keep having the same issue. This is from a purchased dvd set. At one point when it got to this phase, the dvd started making an odd noise then roll back. I try again and again with no odd noise but still the same issue. It's not the pc I've had that remotely checked and other stuff installs. What gives? I NEED this fixed pronto

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 running on? For now, for the details below, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
You are experiencing the known Shared Technology installation error syndrome which can hit any version of Premiere Elements on any computer operating system. There is no one fix. Lots of home remedies.
The fix that has worked for me consistently lately is this:
    Local Disc C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder is the OOBE Folder. Rename the OOBE Folder from OOBE to OLDOOBE. Close out of there and try for the Premiere Elements 9 installation again. (Do not forget to do the Premiere Elements 9.0.1 Update after you have finished the Premiere Elements 9 installation.)
The following is a sampling of what some others have gone through with this particular error

Hi there, I'm new to the mac platform...
I was wondering if anyone can help with my set up of the calendar app with a shared google calendar.
what we have is an office calendar on google with each person having a calendar (within the same id) - it means that we can check where everyone is/what meetings are happening etc...
however, the problem is that the notifications appear on everyones machines for every calendar, even if they are not ticked in the list in the app.
Is there a way to only allow notifications from one of the calendars or will we just have to switch off the notifications/reminders
    thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. If this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Good luck!

  • Error on installing Shared Technologies while installing PS11

Am getting "error while installing Shared Technologies.."  while installing PS 11.  I uninstalled the antivirus but got the same error message.  Does anybody know how this can be fixed or what I should do now?  Thank you so much..

    Hi Newbie Me,
Please follow the mentioned kb: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-installation-photoshop-elements- premiere.html .
If still the same issue then rename OOBE from the given location and try installing again:
    Win:C/Program Files(X86)/Common FIles/Adobe/OOBE and rename it to OOBE.old
    Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE and rename to OOBE.old.
    Regards,

  • Photoshop Elements 12 - can't get pass the install Shared Technologies

I've spent hours trying to install Photoshop Elements 12 on my Windows 8.1 64 bit computer. The install process chugs along merrily and then chokes with an unspecified error whilst installing the shared technologies and then rolls back the installation.
The installer leaves a load of files in the Photoshope Elements 12 directory; the installer then fails to uninstall the program throwing up an error about an empty path which requires registry editing to get around.
I've tried a wide variety of "fixes" (this seems a common problem) including deleting the OOBE directory, installing for the harddrive, turning of the virus checker/firewall, installing from tthe command line and even downloading the whole package from the Adobe website (I've bought it on CD) and all have failed and the "shared technologies" installation seems to be the problem.
I'm a very experience computer user but I've just about reached the point of packaging everything up and sending it back; I'm not very confident about the quality of the software when I can't even get past the installer.
Is there a way of installing Photoshop Elements 12 on a Windows 8.1 computer or perhaps a way of downloading and installing the shared technologies seperately?

it sounds like you may have already gone through some of the options here,
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-installation-photoshop-elements- premiere.html#main_Error__Below_mentioned_applications_have_failed_to_install__Shared_tech nologies_
