Shared video memory is not wrking!

Hello, I just purchased the HP Pavillion dv7-1135nr, with the "ATI radeon HD 3500" graphics card with shared video memory and 2.0 ghz amd turion x2. Since the shared video memory can go up to 2 gb, I figured it would play half life 2 with ease. But I was wrong, it is lagging when I play the game! can you please tell me a way to increase the video memory manually? Thanks a lot for your help.

Well I have posted this many times over the years but the basic mistake is to equate video storage with video power. All the video memory in the world does not help if the video engine is not powerful enough to move the pixels.
Check This
The ATI Radeon HD 3200 (not 3500) that you have is a low power video chip. You are not the first to make this maistake and typically the sales people at Best Buy, etc. and even the advertising does not make it really clear that you are getting a business and entertainment video system, not for gaming.

  • How to increase the shared video memory on Portege M100

I have a Portege M100 and I would to increase the shared video memory. In the technical documentation: shared video memory 16-64MB
    I have 768MB of RAM
but can't do it in the Bios or Windows.
where i can do it ?
(i'm french, sorry for the bad english)

    Hi
I have also noticed that on units with Intel graphic chard it is not possible to ser shared memory usage manually and it works automatically. On units with ATI graphic card manual selection is possible.
Why is 16 MB in usage and not more, about that we can just speculate. If you want try to check Intel page. As far as I know they have very good explanations for own technology. Maybe you will find something there.

  • How to adjust shared video memory size - R10/R600 Win7 Prof 32bit

    Hi,
I use two laptops in business - R600 and R10. Both with Intel 4500 graphic card and shared video memory. Both win Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. In both cases system reserves 1159MB for video memory. As I don't play any games I have no need to waste such a huge memory amount - I would like to free as much as possible for system and programs.
For trial purposes I installed Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. Surprisingly it reserves only 199MB for video memory - so it looks like OS issue.
Does anybody know how can I decrease the video memory size in Windows 7 32bit?
    Regards,
    pab 567

As far as I know this cannot be done manually and shared memory is controlled by system.
If you dont use it for gaming I dont see any problem there. I dont know what kind of activity you do with your notebook but I cannot imagine there is no enough memory for every day activities.
Is there not enough power for certain operations or what?

  • How do you increase shared video memory?

I own an iMac with 256mb of shared video memory and have been dying to find a way of making the computer use more of my 8gb of RAM for video memory than it currently is (specifically for an improved gaming performance). Does anyone know of a way? Thanks in advance.

Shared video memory? What's that?  Your computer has ram, your video card has ram.  You can change the amount of ram in your computer.  But your video card is what it is.  It cannot be changed.
I think what your want is more ram for your computer.  Go to OWC to see possible choices for your model.  You don't have to buy there if you don't want (but I always recommend them).  But at least you will see what choices are available to you.

  • Shared Video Memory Configuration?

    I have a laptop Lenovo B490 5935-6014, Intel Core i3 3110m, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000, using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
How to adjust shared video memory? I think shared video memory is too large (1696MB).
I tried going to BIOS setup and I saw nothing about that...
    Can you help me???
    Sorry for my poor English
    Thanks.

    hi AnonymousK,
    Welcome to the Forums.
When you check system properties, are you getting a Total Memory: 4GB (2328GB Usable) or similar?
    - if this is your case, the problem might lie on the system's BIOS. By default, the system automatically allocates all the physical RAM that it could use but if you have integrated graphics, this BIOS automatically share and allocate some of the RAM to the GPU to improve its performance.
    - If you don't have a memory remmaping feature in the BIOS that controls how much RAM is allocated to the GPU, this is most likely a limitation of the system.
Another thing is the Physical Address Extension (PAE) that the OS uses to utilize system memory. Since you're using a 64bit version of Windows, this feature is already enabled. In some cases, you need to use a PAE Patch to correct the total memory reported above.
    Best regards,
    neokenchi

  • How to disable Shared Video Memory on Qosmio X870?

    Hi,
I find that when I use certain software packages (mainly CAD) then my video ram remains untouched. I cant seem to disable the shared system memory - which I believe is part of Nvidia Turbocache.
Some websites and forums say that one can disable this in the BIOS is the manufacturer has released a BIOS drivers which would allow this - this does not seem to be the case at Toshiba.
Is there another way I would be able to disable this setting. This Toshiba Qosmio x870 was purchased as we needed a notebook with a high end (class 1) graphics card. Unfortunately it seems to be under performing.
I have tried to set all setting in the Nvidia control panel to Max Performace but I am still not getting the software (Micromine) to run properly.
I would appreciated any suggestions or support from this form.
    Kind Regards,
    Jrgen

Yea I know what you mean. Toshiba support for these kind of issues seems non existent. I think this kind of problem can also be attributed to the way Nvidea optimus tech runs on laptops. It controls which graphics chip is being used i.e between on board and dedicated and has been know to cause issues in some programs - maybe something to look into?
Sorry you can't fix it :( I'm no guru and I'm out of ideas unfortunately....
    Good luck!

  • K9N2 Diamond: Shared video memory, how to disable?

As on subject: I can see the entry in the bios settings and I can choose the memory amount to share, but I can't disable it (entry is gray and unselectable) and even if I try to set other values than 256M the values resets to it when I save changes to cmos.
In addition windows recognize 512M of ram (which is the maximum value selectable in bios settings about shared memory) less then it would do: I have 4Gb of ram and 2 8800GT 512M: total system ram is 5G. Windows 32 bit see 2,5G of system ram, to reach 4Gb (the maximum overall memory size recognizeble by a 32-bit os) i miss 1,5G, 1 by the graphic boards and the other 512M...I bet is the shared memory. I would disable it so to free up 512M of system ram is there a way to do it?

If you're not able to change the share memory to none, go to on chip VGA in bios and disable it

  • Mac Mini 'shared' video memory?

I'm strongly considering a Mac Mini. I recently picked up a G4 eMac and fell pretty hard for it but want an affordable step up from a G4 'cause I'm a (soon to be ex) PC 'power' user and require a certain amount of zap-zing-pow for the price. The Mac Mini says 256mb shared memory for its nVidia 9400 video hardware. Does this mean it uses 256mb of system memory? IE - a 2gb Mac Mini is really 1.8gb because 256mb is being used for video?

That is correct. However, Apple says that the mini supports 4 GB of RAM. 3rd parties report that it supports 8 GB of RAM. YMMV.
What do you mean by "power user"?

  • Equium A110-276 - why Shared Graphics Memory is not set to max 128 MB?

I have an Equium A110-276 and the maximum memory of the graphics is 128MB...
Now, when I bought this notebook, it says that the graphics memory is 128MB which is correct.
So I can play high graphics games and applications.
After 9 months, the shared memory for the graphics became 64MB! What the?!
Now when I play and use the applications which need 128MB, they're notifying me that my graphics memory is 64MB which is low and the applications may become slow.
    Anyone had this problem?
I tried contacting Toshiba and they said that I need to put more RAM, I tried to call 4 times and they always say the same thing... but I already have 1024MB of RAM which is enough... My problem is why the motherboard or the BIOS is not sharing up to 128MB of RAM for the graphics...

    Hi
The Equium A110-276 supports a Intel 945GM graphic chip!!!!
The Intel graphic cards assign the shared memory automatically!!! The graphic driver controls the memory and you cannot set the amount manually!!!
If the application needs more graphic memory then the driver will assign and share the memory automatically!
    Dont worry, everything looks ok!

  • RAM Upgrade - Ram:Shared Video Memory Ratio

Right now I have 1GB of ram in my macbook and my intel gma x3100 graphics chipset is allocating itself a whopping 144MB, which is enough to spell fail in 27 differet languages. I am planning to upgrade to 4GB of ram soon, and im wondering if the gma x3100 chipset will keep this same 1:0.14 ratio of vram allocation (This would bump my graphics vram to around 512MB), or is it going to stay at 144MB and I'm just screwed with what I have?

No, the amount of memory given to the video card isn't based on proportions, it is based on need. Others will correct me if I am wrong, but if I remember correctly, the max memory it will take is 256MB

  • Video/Screen Sharing via 3G connection not possible - port restrictions?

I'm running Jabber-based iChat AV 5.0.3 sessions from my MBP connected to the Internet via a wireless USB modem 3G/UMTS (German Telekom D1 network). My buddies are connected to the Internet via regular broadband connections (DSL). I have set up a hosted Jabber server via Dreamhost (without SSL, port 5222 used).
    Status Quo:
    - Contact status of remote Jabber users shows up properly. All buttons (text chat, screen sharing, video) are available (not greyed out) on both sides.
    - Text chat works fine.
    - Video chat and screen sharing can be invoked from both sides (confirmation window shows up), but after confirmation the initiation process doesn't finish successfully. The video/screen sharing session doesn't run. *iChat AV shows a message indicating that it doesn't receive an answer from the remote user device.* If the iChat session is initiated from a buddy's computer, the buddy gets the same message respectively.
    - For testing purposes, I changed the internet connection on my MBP from the mobile 3G USB modem to a regular *DSL broadband connection (same ISP, German Telekom). In this scenario, video/audio calls and screen sharing work flawlessly!* Therefore, I assume that the problems in 3G connection mode is caused by the ISP (German Telekom) blocking/restricting ports required by iChat AV for initiating the video call and streaming the data on their 3G network.
Is there any way to bypass ISP restrictions, by either changing specific iChat AV port settings on both ends (client devices) or by port forwarding? If yes, which settings should I change? Unfortunately, it's couldn't find any document indicating which ports are opened/allowed by German Telekom's 2G/3G (GSM/UMTS) network.

    Hi,
Does this 3G device have any set up functions that are on your Mac ?
If it does not it is likely that it is wide open to all Port (65535 of them).
I presume that in System Preferences > Network you see a Public IP when using this device ?
Again this would tend to pint to all the ports being open.
Is there anything on the ISP's web site that suggests this device is unsuitable to be used with VoIP or SIP connections ?
VoIP (Voice over the Internet) uses the SIP connection process the way iChat does.
Most likely the issues is the way packets are sent.
When you do a download, for instance, do you find the speed increases in the first few minutes ?
When some data packets are sent over the Internet the next one is not sent until confirmation that the first has arrived.
This Latency effects Point to Point WiFi (antenna to Dish on House) and satellite connections mostly particularly when it is a two way thing.
It can effect Mobile/Cell phone type connections.
What sort of Speeds are you getting on the 3G device ?
    http://www.speedtest.net/
Do these seem to get faster as the time proceeds ? (this can be difficult to spot).
The Log mentions one end being at just over 2Gbps although it does not make it clear which end.
As the Remote end is the end that reports "Router: Port Restricted" and it works over standard DSL we have to presume they have the ports open.
You could try restricting iChat 's Bandwidth in iChat menu > Preferences > Video Section to 500kbps (try it at both ends)
If that does not work try 200kbps
This may stop iChat from trying to send data too Fast for the Network Connections.
Realistically there are a few too many variables here.
It could be Speed of data throughout at the Initiation point. (Slow Start up of data transfer)
It could be an Internal setting preventing SIP.
It could be that the 3G network sends and receives data by different routes.
(I have seen this once when a ISP was repairing some Cabling. To maintain end user speeds they managed their own network to split Incoming and outgoing data to the end point.)
iChat does not like this as it checks the IPs and the Hops (number of intermediate stages/servers) and if the data is different it will not connect (Man in the Middle attack protection).
I can't remember the last time I knew of someone being successful with either an 3G USB dongle or a 3G phone as Modem (internet Sharing).
Despite my ideas I think you will be unlucky and this will not work.

  • Re: Satellite A300: How to dedicate video memory

hi i was checking methods on how to make my graphics card work a little harder and people kept telling me to dedicate some memory to my video.
these are my settings right now:
    total graphics memory: 358 mb
    *dedicated video memory: 0 mb*
    system video memory: 128
    shared system memory: 230
so i was looking for a solution on how to do that and i found this :
but i cannot get to this menu,
    please help,

ps. do u think this graphic card is good enough to play new games? (eg. cod5, far cry 2, etc.)

    http://ftp.toshiba.ca/support/TechSupport/quickspecs/quickspecs.asp?id=Quick%20Specs%20Chart&family=sat ellite&partnum=PSAJ0C-SH308C
    It says:
Mobile Intel GMA X3100. Up to 358MB of shared video memory
Unfortunately the Intel Graphics solutions are not designed to have great 3D performance.
You need an ATI(AMD) or nVidia graphics chip for decent performance.
If you want to play the latest games, you will need to lower the resolution and use low graphics settings.
Note that many games need special DirectX/OpenGL features to run, which the Intel chip may not have.
I imagine older games like FarCry1 will run ok

  • Re: Tecra A11-10D video memory

    Hello all,
I have a Tecra A11-10D and in windows it show's that my graphics card is using 1200MB of RAM as shared video memory. I do not need so much memory for my graphics card, i think 256MB will suffice tacking in account that the onboard card has 64MB of dedicated video memory.
Now on all the computers i know that in bios there is an option to assign RAM to the video card but in the BIOS of my computer I see no such option. I think / hope that an updated bios will give me this option. On the download drivers section I see a new BIOS but I don't want to flash it until i see the BIOS update specifications.
Can any one point me to such a document?
Did anyone have this issue and solved it?
    Thanx,
    Dan.

    Hello
As users already wrote the video memory usage is controlled automatically and you cannot change anything. I really don't understand why do you think new BIOS will have some additional options.
I am 100% sure with new BIOS you will not have any new options so if the system is running well dont change anything. BIOS update will be offered mostly to fix some unexpected issues or offer better support for notebooks hardware. It has nothing to do with additional options.
Maybe you are right about video RAM. I also think that every of us should be able to make decision how many memory will be used for video operations but obviously Intel engineers have different opinion about it.

  • How to adjust video memory for Toshiba A305-s6905?

Hello, I bought Toshiba A305-S6905 from best buy last month or more.
Now everything goes well. I am glad to own such a laptop.
The machine's spec describes the graphics card:
"Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Features 128-1294MB dynamically allocated shared video memory for intense detail."
the video memory is dynamically allocated, and the range is 128-1294MB.
I want to know how to get the largest video memory for some games like CS, etc. I tried to manually adjust the video memory size in BIOS, but failed. There is nothing related with video memory option.
    please help.
    thanks.

There's software installed that does it automatically based on what the system is doing at the time. If you're playing a game, it will give it the necessary video memory.
I am assuming you're asking this because you're not happy with the performance of the game, otherwise you wouldn't be trying to adjust it manually. I am also assuming you're talking about CS. Unfortunately, systems with integrated graphics (what yours has) just aren't cut out for playing graphically-intensive games. You'll need to spend more than $600 for a computer that is good for games.
