Shared WLAN

Hi guys
I have had this issue with my set up for WLAN for some time.
The Apple support and my internet provider have so far not been able to resolve my issue.
I am a secondary user of an Arcor Easy Box A600 WLAN. The primary user is an MSI windows vista laptop.
I have an old Toshiba laptop that is also set up as a secondary user.
The mac mini is configured correctly, and I have restricted it to 256 k/bits with waterroof.
However when I use the mac mini airport alone it is sporodic but workable.
Likewise when in a shared WLAN situation it ***** all the traffic and slows the whole system down both for the laptop and the mac mini.
Any ideas how to improve my connectivity in general with the mac mini?
Also when sharing the WLAN?
The only solutions I can come up with is
a) doing some home redecoration (DIY), linking up the mac by ethernet, and using the laptops as WLAN.
b) investing in an aiport extreme base station.
The latter option I am not even sure would resolve the problems.
Any ideas would be great?
cheers stew.t.

I know but it is a problem for the school when every student in the school gets hold of the PSK. Anyway, the PSK is hidden in the phone once it is entered. there is no way to display it. Should you lose your phone, the PSK is still safe.

  • WLAN Moving between office locations Mobile non-windows

    Hi Guys,
Another one for you all - we have several offices running seperate WLAN controllers various models and software versions. We have the same SSID in each office. We dont use WCS/NCS as yet. We are using MS NPS Radius/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 for authentication of users.
Now users on MS Domain windows laptops visit other offices they connect without any issues. Group Policy push WLAN profile.
However - from IOS and Andriod devices - they will not connect unless (in all cases) they re create the profile on the mobile device. Any pointers as to what might be happening here? I know the above is vague - but any suggestions of where to start investigating?
    Cheers

From Cisco Guide: "Under normal roaming conditions, client devices  join  a wireless LAN and are anchored to the first controller that they   contact. If a client roams to a different subnet, the controller to   which the client roamed sets up a foreign session for the client with   the anchor controller."
I'm assuming a couple things: 1) You are using the same mobility group name at both locations/controllers. 2) that this shared WLAN/SSID is assigned a local interface at the controller location with different subnets assigned for each location.  To the controllers, you just "moved" from one ap/controller to another ap/controller in the same group.
Make sure your mobility groups, specifically software versions, are interoperable given that you said you are running different software versions.  Search for Cisco Wireless Solutions Software Compatibility Matrix. The latest was just released.
    Try this test:
    1) Connect from location A with your mobile device.  Note the ip address provided from dhcp_discovery.
    2) Don't shut your wireless service off.  Just jump in your car and drive to location B. I'm guessing it's not that far...maybe less that the default idle timeout set on your location A controller.
    3) At location B, ensure you are connected to the same WLAN again.  Verify the ip address you are provided. Is it the same ip address you had at location A?
    4) Login to controller at location B
Look for your client ip address in the controller.  Specifically look for "foreign export" under role? (i this that's the section  but can't confirm as I don't have access to a controller now).
    Results should dictate a direction.

  • WIFI not working when WEB is running and using NMA...

    hello,
If you load up a web page with the N95 8GB and then hold the menu button to switch to standby then goto Nokia Maps, the Nokia Maps can not make an Internet connection even though there is one available via the Web.
Anyone else can confirm this bug?
Does N95 8GB support shared WLAN access between apps or has Symbian screwed up here and only allow 1 application at a time (WHICH IS EXTREMELY STUPID IMHO).
If the latter is true, how dumb is that?
Have they thought of this scenario?
I want to use my Internet Phone via WLAN while I am using Nokia Maps to guide myself around town. With the current software, I can not do this.
    N-95 8GB, Wish Nokia made a 3G World Phone.
Release a 3G HSPDA 850/900/1800/1900/2100 and Quad Band GSM phone instead!

The Phone, depending on the application, CAN share the WILAN connection, but sometimes some apps refuses to share it. This is why Nokia should be fixing this issue by ensuring that everyone goes to the same Network procedure and to ensure that no only application can lock that access.

  • Sharing GPRS/3G connection over WLAN

Does anybody know if it is possible to connect a computer/laptop/handset to a Nokia handset (N80, E61, etc.) using WLAN and share its 3G connection?
    Nokia N80 - v4.0623.0.41

Yes... I have done it, but it seems a bit flaky. I use it via a Bluetooth 2.0 EDR connection to my Apple PowerBook - we didn't get that far with our Windows machine (a Dell Inspiron) as the Bluetooth doesn't seem to work properly on that. Use Internet Connection Sharing on Windows XP or the Sharing Preferences on Mac OS X to set it up.
The 3G connection is OK for email and web browsing, but Skype didn't like it much. Maybe Skype optimises itself for broadband if that's what you usually use?

  • E51 WLAN sharing

And if not , is there other nokia phone capable to do so
    Thank you

I've been able to find this software which apparently allows one to do that:
Symsmb (www.telexy.com). Current ver. 3.50. Have not been able to test it though (time constraints...). It is not free but 15 days trial is available. If anyone does try it, pls. share your experience here.
Nokia should make this available free as a productivity tool...!!!

  • Wlan Pre-shared key

I have an n97 mini and I'm trying to get access to a wireless open network ( there is no padlock next to the strenght signal) but it is showing 'enter wlan pre-shared key' but if its open why should I enter a password. Help please

You could try setting up your access point as follows.
Goto Settings>Connectivity>Settings>Destinations>Add new access point. If it still does not store your passphrase, select the access point you have just set up then goto WLAN security settings>Pre-shared key and enter it here manually.

  • KDE networkmanager and sharing mobile internet connection to wlan

I'm not so expert in networking only a user.
I use KDE 4.6.1. I have a netbook with Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter driver ath5k. I have installed networkmanagement 20110226-1 and networkmanager 0.8.2-3.
I connect to the internet with a mobile broadband connection CDMA/EDVO that is well recognized and connect well.
I used to share the connection with other notebook.
But I can't create an ad-hoc shared connection.
After installing dnsmasq and follow the instruction finded here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sh … _interface
Configure dnsmasq. Make the following changes to /etc/dnsmasq.conf (uncomment if necessary):
    domain-needed
    bogus-priv
    interface=wlan0
    dhcp-range=10.42.43.1,10.42.43.100,12h
    Start dnsmasq as root:
    /etc/rc.d/dnsmasq start
Finally, set firewall to forward connections to and from the Internet for clients connecting to your wlan. This is done by issuing (you guessed it right, as root again):
    iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE
Now it reply this error from the log
    Mar 14 07:09:05 netbook-pc NetworkManager[2084]: <error> [1300082945.419707] [nm-device-wifi.c:1544] nm_device_wifi_set_mode(): (wlan0): error setting mode 2
The NetworkManager enter in a loop of trying to connect.
    Can anyone help me?

According to that blogpost (mentioned in above post - http://lamarque-lvs.blogspot.com/2011/0 … ging.html), the bug has been solved and:
Plasma NM does not follow KDE SC release schedule. I tested this code yesterday with KDE 4.4.4 and it worked. It is just a matter of distributions updating their packages with this code.
And from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/725041 (same bug, reported for network-manager package in Ubuntu):
This bug was fixed in the package network-manager - 0.8.4~git.20110228t143901.5cdded6-0ubuntu1
Archlinux currently uses networkmanager 0.8.3-0.20110113, any chances of anyone including these updates anytime soon?

  • E51 WLAN - File sharing with another PC on home WL...

    Hi,
I have recently bought E51 and had no trouble setting up the WLAN accesspoint and browse the net / check emails / download software. All works very well.
The tutorial on phone suggest that one can share files etc. between the phone and another PC on WLAN. I have tried to do that but somehow I am not able to get this right.
Has anyone done this? If yes, I will appreciate details on how to go about it.
    Thanks

  • How do I add a Vista printer shared over wLan?

I knew how to do it in Tiger. I Alt-Clicked Add printers in System Prefs, then I went to Advanced>something like Windows Printing over SAMBA and then I would add something like:
    [email protected]/Brother HL-2030
and that would create a new queue in my Printers list.
I can't seem to do it anymore in Leopard.
Right now I need to print from my MacBook Pro running 10.5.6 over wi-fi to a Brother HL-2030 which is connected via USB to a Dell Vostro Desktop running Vista. It also is on the same wLan.
    Many thanks, people.

Hi PAHU, I already have done that, but the problem is that I can't seem to figure out what to enter into the fields that appear. It's different to Tiger's screen. Here's what I've done, to no avail though:
Alt-Clicked on Advanced, waited a long time until the fields become active underneath,
    Type: Windows
    Device: Another Device
URL: smb://guest@Business-PC/Brother (where 'Business-PC' is the Win Vista Desktop which is connected to the Brother HL-2030 laser printer I want to print to)
Name: Business-PC (what is this, really?)
    Location: Again, what is this?
Print Using: Select a driver to use...
and in the ensuing new field, I select the Brother HL-2030 series CUPS driver.
But, like I said, it doesn't work.

  • N95: file sharing through WLAN

    Hi,
On a N95, connected to my local network by wifi. It is working fine as I can go online, but I cannot access the shared files on my computers. Firewalls have been configured on my computers to allow the N95, but I still do not see the shared folders in the N95 file manager.
    Any idea?
    Thank you

But a network file manager - allowing you to manage files on remote PC's and copy between phone & PC & vice versa...
It depends how much you use it I guess, I use it loads at work, accessing all 3 servers, and any of the 300 workstations - easily getting to files and being able to copy them to my mobile, or any of the other machines on the network, without having to log on - it's great.

  • Sharing N95 folders on WLAN and using WLAN to acce...

    Hi all,
Don't mean to seem like I'm abusing the help given here by taking too big a share...
I was wondering how you get the above feature to work. I tried accessing the phone from a neworked PC and could ping it but not access folders on it. Also when looking in gallery for media on the home network it just stays searching for ages.
Is there any further info on this feature anywhere? I noted a mention of uPnP but not really sure how that all works. If I can add my N95 to my home network that'd be really great )

  • Home sharing does not work with iTunes 12

I have been using home sharing with iTunes a lot, mainly to stream TV shows from my Mac Pro (2008) to my Apple TV (3rd Gen). But after installing Yosemite and iTunes 12 it doesn't work any longer. My Apple TV finds the iTunes Library, but can't connect with it. At the same time home sharing worked just fine with my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 (iOS 8.0.2). After installing iOS 8.1 home sharing with my iOS devices doesn't work, too – same problem as with Apple TV: iTunes library is found but devices can't connect with it.
I already tried to solve the problem with the suggestions on Apples troubleshooting page:  Fehlerbehebungsmaßnahmen für die Privatfreigabe
    My setup:
Mac Pro (2008) with OS X 10.10 (14A389), iTunes 12.0.1.26, connected via Ethernet and WiFi
    Router: Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270
    iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1
    iPad 2 with 8.1
Apple TV (3rd Gen), newest software update, connected via Ethernet
Any ideas, what the reason for that problem could be and how to solve it?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
BTW: Sorry for my English. I am not a native speaker.
    Greetings from Germany

I had the same problem after updating to iTunes 12 and using my iPhone 6.
I have solved it by doing these simple steps:
    1. Turn off Home Sharing in iTunes. Close it.
    2. In your iOS 8 device, Turn on Home Sharing: Settings/Music/Home Sharing
    3. Open back iTunes
It looks like in one of the updates, possibly iOS 8.1, had signed off Home Sharing completely.

  • Problem with WLAN in Nokia N82

I can't set correct key in settings for WLAN connect.
Access Point use Pre-Shared Key Format: Hex (64 characters)
Phone allow to input only 63 characters.
    Model of Phone Nokia N82.
Can anybody help me in this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
It appears that Nokia haven’t implemented the standard fully. According to our router the Pre-Shared Key Format should be either 8-63 characters OR 64 Hex digits.
See the section on “Security in pre-shared key mode”
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Protected_Access
But the N82 is only accepting the 8-63 character setting not the Hex option.
