Sharepoint 2007 as content server for DMS?

Hi,
Knowing Sharepoint 2003 is not able to act as DMS content server.
Does any know if the new Sharepoint 2007 has this function to act as DMS content server?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Ronald

Hi Espen,
iam also coming across the same requirement where in client is already using SharePoint as a common document Managing software,
in your Case as You have solved the Problem, did you buy a new server and installed content servewr in it, and integrate it to Share Point server?
or did you use the Same existing  share point server to install content server on it,
i guess in that case there will be duplication of all the Original files,
one, the original file is Available in the Share Point server. and Secondly, the same original file is checked in into the storage catagories if the same share Point server is defined as Storage medium for SAP DMS, ie same Share Point server acting as Content or Archive server.
please help me in Understanding the things clear iam little bit confused,
Alternatively to access the Documents in the Share Point server and Store the same original File in the Content server (or it can be the same SharePoint Server acting as Content server(installing the content server CD on the Share Point server)). can we go to create 2 Datacarrier and Datacarrier types,
one to Bring the original document from the share point server to the DeskTop of the User.
second to check in the Same document through SAP transaction CV01N, here again should we define another Data Carrier and Data Carrier type, (like the share Point server or Content server used again to check in the original Through SAP DMS CV01N,
iam  confused as i have only worked on storing external files which is in the Frontend system in to an Content server only,
Points for Sure,
Thanks in Advance,

  • Using a single Content server for DMS and also for Archive link documents

    Hi,
We have Planned for a single content server for managing the documents in DMS, parallelly as DMS Standard SAP objects are not available for all SAP transactions, i have proposed for making use of SAP Archivelink funtionality to maintain the documentations where Std SAP DMS does not provide a Solution.
    so here the question is
can a single content server be used as a content repository for Both DMS and archivelink,
can any one having done this pls state if it is possible to create different or Many Content repositories for DMS, Archive link in the same server,
is this a virtual creation or can we assign each repository a specific storage space which it should not exceed.
    Thanks and regards
    Sathish

    Hi sathish,
-- Through the ArchiveLink docuemnt Management interface, an SAP sytem can use various content servers as storage media. similarly, one contnent server can be used by multiple SAP systems.
-- A Content server always has a single database assigned to it. A database can therefore be used by only one content server.
-- A databse is split into as many repositories as necessary. The design of the repository is mapped in the SAP system.A repository contains documents.
Depending on your requirements,(if u have limited documents or with low requirements)  you can use the same content server for both DMS and Archivelink.
The number of documents stored on the content server is limited only by the size of the database.
Its better to have an external content server for archiving purpose, if your database size is increasing. Since the archiving systems storage is not dependent on the database.
U can also refer to the below thread :

    hope this helps....

  • Sharepoint 2007 as Content repository for KM

    Hello
Any one know if it is possible to define Sharepoint as repository for KM (EP7 SP10)?
    TNX
    Erez

    Hi Erez,
I am not sure about the interoperability between Sharepoint 2007 and EP7 SP10. But there is a document about the interoperability of older versions. Find it <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/9e891378-0601-0010-5386-a3387f1b161b">here</a>.
Basically, SAP Knowledge Management can be used as a WebDAV server or a WebDAV client. In a scenario as a WebDAV client, SAP KM provides an access to documents stored on other WebDAV-enabled servers. For this purpose, you use the WebDAV repository
    manager.
The setting up the access to documents in SharePoint Document Libraries does not dif-
fer from the default procedure and comprises following steps:
         •  Define an HTTP system in the CM system landscape.
         •  Create a cache for the WebDAV repository manager.
         •  Configure the repository manager parameters for the WebDAV repository man-
            ager.
That should still work for the new versions of Sharepoint and EP.
    Hope I could help!
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • Using DMS Content server for Archiving HR documents

    Hi SAP Gurus,
with the details gathered from the forum we could suggest the client to go for Archiving there Documents for storing there HR related Documents, like Resumes, salary hike litters, leaves etc....
but as we do have DMS here and intending to get a Content server for DMS, can we use the same content server for archiving the HR documents also,
or the other way round if we go a Big archiving server, can we store DMS documents there using it as Content Server,
    Thanks and Regards,
    Priya S

Yes, you can use the content server. Just create an ArchiveLink Repository on the server and you can use it for HR.

  • Netwearver WAS version 640 of the content server for PLM DMS

    Hi,
We have SAP R/3 4.7 version & have implemented PLM-DMS with content server on WAS620.We are contemplating to use distributed content server for our requirement. Has anyone used multiple content servers? if so, could you please share your experiences.
Also, if anyone has anyone upgraded the content server to version 640, i would like you to share your experiences with me.
    Thanks,

    Sap R/3 4.6C - CS630 (patch-lvl15)
We do not use SapDB or MaxDB to store the document on the content server, we store the documents directly in the file system.
Our Content servers run on win2003 servers.
In my company we've currently got 15 different content servers in 10 countries.
We've got one content server and one cache server at each location for one SAP system. One physical server has 2 content servers and 1 cache server. One for our SAP production system and one for our SAP Quality test system. They use the same cache server (first we created 2 cache servers, but it was not possible for SAP to destuingish between the two, so both cache servers got used by both SAP systems)
We have also implemented a couple of add-ons:
    1. Conversion and viewserver (by Seal AG). conversion server converts office documents to pdf when documents are released. Currently use only 2 conversion servers, planning to increase when the volume gets larger.
Viewserver adds stamps on pdf-files when you view or print a document.
    2. Document Distribution Manager (by CENIT AG). Makes it easy to schedule prefill of cache. Also possible to move documents from one storage category to another. And Rules for transfering documents from one site to another can be made (Ex. "not allowed to move files larger than 20 MB between <certain> sites")
Perhaps I could be of assistance?
BUT, anyway, the reason I post this is because I have problems upgrading my CS630 (lvl15) to CS640 (lvl6).
Asked SAP via an OSS, and they said it was like a regular patching (stop webservice, copy *.dll files, and restart webservice). But when I try this, I can't get contact with the content server via CSADMIN in SAP. I get "HTTP error: 500 Internal Server Error"

  • Using MS-Sharepoint as a content server from ECC 6.0

    Hi, gurus.
    From the
    [SAP Content Server Installation Guide|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/cfa73246-0a01-0010-71b4-bc21ccb45c99&overridelayout=true]
    ...you will find this information:
You can find a description of the SAP Content Server Interface in the SAP Library (on the documentation CD or under www.//help.sap.com) under SAP Web Application Server u2192 Basis Services u2192 Knowledge Provider u2192 Content Management Service u2192 SAP Content Server HTTP Interface. If you want to integrate another content server into your network, the new content server must fulfil the requirements of the interface.
    My simple question is:
Is it possible to use MS Sharepoint as a content server from ECC 6.0  ?
    Please advice.

    Hi Athol,
Thanks very much, your answers are very helpful.
To use SharePoint as SAP DMS for document management. We have depend on the 3rd party products like iNet.DM from ERP.Link or Duet Enterprise and separate licenses required for products?
Without this 3rd party products, it is not possible to use SharePoint as SAP DMS?
What is best and cost effective way of achieving this requirement?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Venky.

  • SHarepoint as SAP Content Server Configuration

Actually this message is for Espen Leknes because I have read something from him i another message but if you guys know about this, all will be wellcome !!!!!!!
This is Andrea, Basis COnsultant. I am writing to you because I was reading lot of messages in SAP SDN regarding DMS and SAP Content Server.
I saw you have participated in lot of messages. I am specially interested in one of them which is about Sharepoint.
The customer I am working in would like to use Sharepoint as global Content Server and I would like to configure Sharepoint as SAP Content Server in order to save documents and attach them to sap objects (scanned invoices, manuals, cad drawings, etc)
I know it is not possible since Sharepoint is not SAP certified and http inteface from SAP (archivelink) does not work with this product.
I have read about Inet.DM and thinks like this.
I read you have configured SHarepoint as WebDav. In some post you have written:
    Hi guys,
There is a third way, where you end up using Sharepoint as your content server
    1. COnfigure a content server to use file storage
    2. COnfigure the file area for webdav
    3. The webdav is the sharepoint webdav
Voila, you are using sharepoint as your content server.
Why the heck you would do that is beyond me, but it works.
    Ok, the question is:
I am using ECC60 and I dont have file storage option.
Is is possible to explain this again or sent me screenshots os OAC0 ?? It would be very useful.
Thanks so much in advance for this.

  • Content server for Document attachment through "services for object" Icon.

    Guys,
I have typical problem in installation of Content server for storing external documents.
We all know that we can attach the document in SAP using the icon “SERVICES FOR OBJECT”. By this we can attach the document to the specific object we want.
-Since my client wants only document attachment method not to completely implement SAP DMS, I proposed this method of attaching documents through services for object method.
-If documents are stored though services for object ,The attached document will directly get stored in sap database(correct me if I am wrong) while  in  DMS it ask you to select the storage location while u check in for any document
-By storing the doc thru "services for object " For long run when we store the documents in sap database our system will drastically get slow down.
-In this regard I have a plan to incorporate external storage server.
-Now I should know that how I should customize content server configuration so that the attachment through services for object will store into this content server I need to know how to define Client, Content Category, Content Repository, Document Area, Physical Machine, IP Address, Port. (OACT & OAC0)
I appreciate for immediate solution and <u><b>Points will be rewarded for sure.</b></u>
    Regards,
    Murali.S

    Hi Murali,
    Don't Worry, its possible,
All attachments can be stored in SAP Content Server also, but through archiving process.
Set up a database storage system.
    Preparation
Make sure that the HTTP plugin is active.
Transaction <b>SMICM,</b> "Display Services" function key (shift F1)). The list of services must contain a port other than 0 for HTTP.If not, you must adjust the relevant profile parameter.
    <u>Typical entry:</u>
    icm/server_port_0         PROT=HTTP, PORT=1080, TIMEOUT=900
<b>Make sure that the /sap/bc/contentserver service is active.</b>
If no user is defined, then use transaction SU01 to create a new user. Use the "System" user type.Assign
the SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW profiles to the user. (Eg: HRUSER/PLMUSER/PPUSER etc)
Transaction <b>SICF,</b> select: default_host - sap - bc -contentserver. Select the function to display/change the service. Make sure that a user is defined.
Using the relevant data from the newly created user, maintain the anonymous logon data for the
/default_host/sap/bc/ service and save & activate the changes in transaction <b>SICF</b>.  Double click on content server and give the user name which has been created (HRUSER/PLMUSER/PPUSER/MMUSER etc)
    Check the system PSE.
Start transaction <b>STRUST</b>. Expand the system PSE. The system PSE must be "green" for each application
    server.
    Determine a suitable exchange directory.
The exchange directory must be accessible from each application server. If all application servers are running on the same platform (for example, Windows), one network directory that is accessible on all application server (for example,
server\share) is sufficient. You can generally use the global directory
(profile parameter DIR_GLOBAL).You can use the RSPARAM report to determine the profile parameters.
    Setting up the storage
Create a table for storing the data. Using transaction <b>SE11</b>, create a copy of the SDOKCONT1
table. If you want to create the repository database, you can name the table ZCONT_DB, for example. Save the
table as a local object. Activate the table.
    Create a repository.
Use transaction <b>OAC0</b> to create a new repository.
    Use the following parameters:
Repository Max. two characters, for example,” Z1”
    DocArea: ARCHLINK
    Storage type: R/3 database
    Storage subtype: normal
    Version no. : 0046
    Contents table <table name> for example: ZCONT_DB
Exchange directory <directory name> for example:
    server\share\
Make sure that the exchange list ends with a \ (or /on Unix). If you are using a variety of platforms, you must use transaction FILE to define a suitable logical file name and use this name. Save the settings.
    1. Maintain view table <b>TOAAR_C</b>, via SM31
Cross client table displayed as information, forget it
    2. In field 'StSytm' you must entered 'Z1' as your system need, or anything that you need but you must configure HR Archive link too.
    3. In field 'Arch.path' (direct above Spoolpath), entered path in your system, this real path in your operating system. May be you should confirm to your Basis consultant where exactly you could store picture files. So if you enter '/', your file exists at root directory at your UNIX system.
    4. Choose 'File store' radio button
    5. Save.
    First
<b>1. You have to create a number range for SAP ArchiveLink.
IMG: Basis Components-> Basis Services -> SAP ArchiveLink -> Basic Settings-> Maintain number ranges
(Trxn <b>OANR).</b> Create number range 01 from 0000000001 to 9999999999 without the external number flag.
    2. Document type <b>HRICOLFOTO</b> must exist with document class JPG.
        IMG: Basis Components->Basis Services->SAP ArchiveLink->System Settings->Maintain document types
        (Table<b> TOAVE, Trxn OAC2).</b>
    3. Document type <b>HRICOLFOTO</b> must be linked to object type PREL and Infotype PA0002.
IMG: Personnel Management->Personnel Administration->Tools->Optical archiving->Set up Optical Archiving
in HR.  (View V_T585O, no Trxn). In the first two columns there are minuses, the third (Date) has
a plus - don't put a flag in the check box.
    4. Check which content repository (Archive) is linked to document type HRICOLFOTO and object type
        PREL. IMG: <b>Basis Components->Basis Services->SAP ArchiveLink->Basic Settings->Maintain Links (Table
       TOAOM_C, Trxn).</b></b>
    Test
    • Test the repository.
Use transaction SE38 to start the RSCMSTH0 report. Specify your repository (i.e. Z1) and start the test.
The report must run without errors. If no problems occurred, you can use the new repository with Archive Link after you carry out the Archive Link Customizing. If problems do occur, check whether one of the related
    notes helps.

    <u><b>
NOTE:- Screen Shots are missing, i was not able to paste here, One more thing is we did this for uploading a PHOTOS into Content Server, Similarly you have to create a REPOSITORY and Z-TABLE to bring all the Attachments from all the selected Objects and then route them to the CONTENT REPOSITORY.</b></u>

  • Content Server for Archiving

    Hello,
I wanted to confirm if we can use the content server which is used to store the originals of a DIR, to store the scanned documents using Archivelink? Whats are the pros and cons?
    Thanks,
    Paddy

    Dear Athol Hill,
    Thanks fore the quick reply,
let me with other DMS community cleary understand the Pros and Cons of Going for the content server  storing of original files,
i belive SAP recommends to go for the SAP Content server installation for storing of original files for DMS? please explain in your own words.
so if we use same content server for storing original directly and also Archiving, do you mean to say that the original files stored in Archiving portion of the content server be copied to CDs and DVDs,
if this is the case can there be tranfer of the Original files from one repository of the content server (acting as DMS storage ) to another Repository (acting as Archive Storage)
so if this transfer is made then any original files can be copied to Optical drives,
one basic question i have is all this original storage device like this Content server, Archive and Vault do only act as Secure storage system? or is that only the feature of Content server?
if so then even if we copy the Archived files in to CDs and DVDs. they cannot be viewed directly with out the Help of SAP Logon transaction. is my understanding right?
is there any Storage System that is Supported by SAP which allows Data be stored other than Secure storage Area, and making it available outside SAP transaction for later use.
    Thanks and regards
    Shanti

  • Content server for cFolders

    Hello Everyone,
We have SAP DMS in our compnay and are using SAP Content server to storing the documents.
Now,we are installing cFolders in the demilitarised zone(outside compnay network). My questions are:
1.Can we use the same SAP DMS content server for cFolders if there is sizing done propoerly?
2.Or we need to jhave separate content server for cFolder? If yes, should the content server reside inside or outside compnay network(demilitarized zone)

    Hi,
here are the answers to your questions:
1.Can we use the same SAP DMS content server for cFolders if there is sizing done properly?
You should typically NOT use the same content server, since the content server is residing within your firewall, cFolders (and connected content servers) are typically residing together in the DMZ.
2.Or we need to jhave separate content server for cFolder? If yes, should the content server reside inside or outside compnay network(demilitarized zone)
See above. You have the options to have the content server(s) "visible" or "invisible" in the internet. Please have a look at the cFolders configuration guide for details.

  • Seperate storage server for DMS

    Hi,
we are in sizing for a DMS project for our ECC 6.0 system. Could you suggest some names of saparate storage server for DMS ?
    SAP K-Pro ?
    IXOS ?
    Tivoli ?
Where can I find a list of certified software ?
    Regards.

Check your ERP installation discs. You will find the SAP content server there. Install it and then point CSADMIN at the repository and you are done.
ERP comes with it's own content sever that can be installed on a separate box. No need to buy more.

But, Our Client wants to have SAP Content Server to store all documents uploaded by External/Internal Candidates becuase client is worrying that if SAP system DB holds such huge data base of Resumes, it may slow down the performance of SAP System.
So, We need inputs from you suggesting whether is it feasible to use SAP Content server for SAP E-Recruitment Implementation. SAP no where suggests to Content server. So, we are in deliema to go for content server or not. If it is feasible to use Content server, pls provide me proper links or documents for reference.
    Please give your valuable inputs,
