SharePoint 2007 permissions

Hello,
What could be the possible reasons for people to lose their permissions on different parts of a sharepoint 2007 site all of a sudden. The audit logs were checked to make sure nobody did that on purpose.
The only thing that happened was a column level settings on a site collection level were changes because of which users had to enter the name of the event while checking in or saving a document. As both these things happened at the same time, I'm not quite
sure if this could be the main cause of permission loss.
Please advice.
Regards,
Shipra Sharma

No. Changing the setting of a column would not alter the permissions for a list.
Are you using Active Directory groups? If so have the users that no longer have permissions been removed from an AD group?
In my experience permissions don't change on their own, and there's nothing in SharePoint to change permissions automatically. Perhaps theusers have not had permissions longer than they thought. Can you search further back in the audit log?

  • Please Help!! Lists and libraries suddenly blocked just before migrating from SharePoint 2007 to 2010

    Hi all,
I took several weeks preparing the migration of a large farm from SharePoint 2007 to 2010 using the system of restore databases and mount site collections. I've built the new farm and I have done several full migration tests to verify that all was well the
    day of final migration.
The farm consists of three virtual servers: one with SQL Server 2012 and two with SharePoint Server 2010. Upon completion of the tests we've moved the servers to another network. We have turned on the servers and everything seems to work fine.
Just the day of the final migration I wanted to check the HealtReports list of the Central Administration, and when I wanted to look up an alert, the view window has not shown me anything and ribbon has appeared with all options grayed. Days ago worked fine.
Alarmed by this, I have started to check all lists and libraries in the Central Administration and the same happens. I can not view or change the items, nor add. Neither I can change the properties of the lists or libraries, as if everything was locked. I
tried on the main site collection and same thing happens, and I have tried with several user with Total Control permissions. I have also verified that the site collection was not in ReadOnly mode.
I have restored a site collection from SharePoint 2007 and have migrated successfully to 2010. Before applying visual upgrade I found that the content is also locked. It is as if he had changed anything in the configuration of the whole farm, but I can not
find what. The Event Viewer of the three server shows no errors related to this. The SharePoint LOGS not show anything unusual.
I do not know where to look and urges me to find a solution because the old servers must be out of service soon. I accept any suggestions.
    Kind regards.

Finally I answer myself because I've already found and fixed the problem. Before moving the servers in farm to the another network I've unplugged the single SharePoint server from the farm database for to clone it. Apparently
this disconnection removes all the implemented solutions and the farm remains without servers. Reconnecting the servers not re-implements the solutions. When I was about to create a new farm I have seen that all solutions were not implemented,
I have implemented one by one and the system worked again.
If any of you happen reaches you, now you know what it may be due.
Kind regards!! Now I'm a happy man! ;)

  • Windows 2003 Powershell and SharePoint 2007

I know its old versions of a lot of things, but I need to run a Powershell script on a SharePoint 2007 list. I wrote the script and it works perfectly well if I run it under the SharePoint System Admin account. But as we all know updating a list item using
this account does not start the associated workflow. So I tried running the script using different credentials. This user account has Portal Owner permissions but when the script tries to use New-Object cmdlet it fails. Can anyone tell me how I get the cmdlets
    available to this new user?
    Thanks

You are trying to instantiate a New-Object of what type? Is it complaining about the New-Object cmdlet itself, or the actual object not being found in loaded assemblies?

  • Item level update security in MS SharePoint 2007

    Hi,
I am working on a requirement where restriction to update list items need to be made at row level. E.g. based on the data in the column of a row, the row will be available for editing to some users. I am looking for an approach to implement this requirement
in MS SharePoint 2007. Any help in this regards will be appreciated.

The easiest way to do this is to set individual item permissions using an event receiver when the item is added or saved.  I did an example of this in a BLOG post a while ago.  Here's the post.
    http://www.dontpapanic.com/blog/?p=25
The example sets item level security based on the content type, but you can change the logic to whatever you like.  One Note:  This solution will not scale for use in a really large list.  There is a limit on how many individual ACLs you can
have in a list.  For 2007 I think it was 2,000.

  • SharePoint 2007 - Site mysteriously inherits from parent (after inheritance is already broken)

This is the strangest thing I've ever seen.  I have a SharePoint 2007 team site which has it's own unique permissions, and I am the only person with Full Control on the site, all other users are either read, append or contributor.
A user reported to me today that they no longer had access to the site, I checked the site level permissions and saw that the permissions were no longer unique, but were inheriting from the parent site.  I know for sure I did not do this, I've been
administering our SharePoint environments for the past 7 years, and was nowhere near the site within the the past couple weeks.  Nobody else would have rights to change the permissions to re-inherit from it's parent site.
What on earth could have caused this?  I have no idea on where to start looking, or what to even search for to see if this has happened to anyone else.
Any help would be most appreciated!

If site collection auditing didn't turn on already then it is difficult to say what is going on. Suggested to turn on site collection auditing -

How do i set item level permission using SharePoint 2007 workflow. As I've been working on employee leave management, time sheet entry and attendance, quite similar to Orange HRM features...And also being a beginner who never had any hands on SharePoint.
It would be really grateful if anybody comes up with all the help for me.
Employees should not be able to see each other's personal information like contact details, email addresses, etc other than the Admin. How do i do that step by step automatically using a workflow using SharePoint 2007....?

    Hi,
We just did a test upgrade from Sharepoint 2007 to Sharepoint 2013 by copying over the content database. One thing we are noticing is that users who had permissions to upload to a document library no longer have that option in 2013. Is there a difference

  • How can I filter a Sharepoint 2007 libarry list based on current user login?

    Hi all.
I would like to know how I can filter a SharePoint library list based on current user login.
Suppose I have created the followings:
    1) A SharePoint form library containing bunch of uploaded InfoPath form data.
    2) The InfoPath form template contains a promoted text field called "TargetUser" to store user domain login (ex: DOMAIN\JOE) and every InfoPath form file in the library has a valid domain name stored in the "TargetUser" field.
I have created a custom view for the form library and would like to filter this view so only items whose "TargetUser" field matches current user's login ID are displayed.
I went to Edit View page to customize the view and tried to use the [Me] function but I got a "Filter value is not a valid text string" message instead when clicking OK. Apparently [Me] returns a Person/Group data type and the filter cannot compare its value
    to that of "TargetUser".
I tried using text functions (ex: TEXT([Me],"") hoping to extract default string value from [Me]. The filter accepts the parameter without any error but the resulting fitlered list does not display any items at all.
I have googled this subject for hours but I have not found any solution.
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help me to create a functional filtered list.
FYI, my SharePoint 2007 installation is just WSS 3.0 + Form Server. I do not have MOSS 2007 (so no MOSS 2007 web parts or web services).
    Thank you.
    Jason

Here's what I usually do in order to accomplish this.  Ultimately you'll need to have 2 different fields.  There's the one you already have, with DOMAIN\username stored in it.  Then you'll need an additional field as a "person" column type.
    Call it "TargetPerson" or something.
Create a sharepoint designer workflow that runs each time an item is created or changed.  One action:
    Set FIELD to VALUE.
The first FIELD is "TargetPerson", the VALUE is your "TargetUser" field.
Once this is done, then the person value is stored in the person field.  This is the field that you can filter by "TargetPerson" is equal to [Me]

  • Sharepoint 2007 - Creating a form to capture timesheets data, but need to track updates to previously submitted data

    Hi,
We are using a basic version of Sharepoint 2007 and do not have access to InfoPath. I have created a list to allow team members to submit their weekly time on specific activities.  How do I go about tracking any changes to previously submitted data?
For instance, a team member enters 5 hours for Activity 1 and submits on April 1.  on April 10 they realize they submitted too few hours and want to go in to edit the 5 hours to 12 hours.
From a reporting perspective we already pulled a report (export to excel) and have the 5 hours listed for April 1. If the user goes in to edit their time sheet from April 1, we don't want the data to just override the 5 hours, we want some sort of flag to
show the hours went from 5 to 12 hours.  How do we do this?
As a work around, I added a question at the beginning of the survey/list asking is this a new submission or an edit. I thought if they select edit and were taken to a screen that allowed them to select the date (April 1), the activity and the new hours that
I would have all of the previous data plus these 3 columns with the additional data: "Edit", "Activity 1", "12".  Instead the original data was over written and all I show are blanks for the previous questions and the edited
    info ("Edit", "Activity 1", "12").
What suggestions do you have so that I can maintain the integrity of the original data and flag for my Project Manager which data needs to be changed in previous reports.
    Thanks in advance!
    AA

I think the best way to answer your question would be to create a simple form and try various submissions. Be aware that unless the e-mail system is controlled, e-mail submission is not recommended due to client configuration issues of e-mail. Your question sounds like online submission would already be something you are comfortable with. In that case you can submit form data in 3 different ways: HTML, FDF, or XML. It can also be submitted as a PDF by saving the form, but that does not sound like what you need and also gets into issues of whether folks are using Reader or Acrobat.
Also be careful (or try both) about using forms from within Acrobat and the forms created by the link in Acrobat to Designer. Once you go to Designer with the form you can not come back for editing in Acrobat. Normally you would create the basic form in a word processor or layout tool and then add the form fields in Acrobat (or Designer if that is preferred).
I will let others address the anonymous and yet confirmation check issue.

  • SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3.0) migration to SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Hi
I have a requirement to migrate a SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3.0) farm to a SharePoint Foundation 2013 farm. The WSS 3.0 farm has SQL Server 2005 Standard running so no restrictions on the size of the content database. The SharePoint Foundation 2010 and 2013 farms
will share the same SQL Server 2012 Standard instance (as I know WSS 3.0 will have to be migrated to 2010 before 2013). I also have two other WSS 3.0 farms (so three WSS 3.0 Farms, lets call these A (250GB), B (90GB) and C (60GB)) that I need to migrate
into WSS 3.0 Farm A before the migration to SP 2010.
My question is, can I migrate a 400GB WSS 3.0 site collection to SP 2010 or will I have to split this into separate site collections? I have read that there is a best practice limit of 100GB per site collection but this does not stop a larger migration from
happening. Obviously over time when the migration has completed to SharePoint Foundation 2013 the single site collection will grow and grow so perhaps now is the right time to split this out into, say, year named site collections, but surely this will incur
an end of year process to create new site collections and a custom dev headache due to different locations to send newly created sites?
    Thanks.

The answer is Yes, and you are correct about the best practice of a limit of 100GB,
although, document and record centers (e.g. non collaborative) can go much higher.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(v=office.15).aspx#ContentDB
That being what it is, your sites will perform better if you find a topology that allows the content databases to be under 100GB each.  You can use Move-SPSite to accomplish that feat.
You'll want a separate instance for 2010 and a separate instance for 2013
and finally, put some quota's in place and then governance document\statement that informs users that 100 GB is the max for any given site collection that uses collaborative features (calendars, lists, workflows, etc.)
The simple path is explained on technet, go from 2007 to 2010 (you can inplace upgrade if you want) then go from 2010 to 2013, database detach and attach is only way.
please check the below link that explains more about the migration from share point 2007->2013.

  • How to auto populate data from one list in SharePoint 2007 into another list based on a key value?

    Hi,
As a part of new requirement in my project I am supposd to work on SharePoint 2007. I have one List (BCExtract - Main list) with all data related to an Application (like ID, name, app manager RTO etc).
I have created another list which has form to be filled by a user (with details about his/her applications). My requirement is that when the user enters AIT ID then the page should refresh (probably after hitting enter) and other details like Application
name, RTO etc which is present in another list gets auto populated depending on the AIT ID (unique column) entered so reduce the burden on the user.
Please suggest me how this can be done. I do not have permission for obtaining SharePoint Designer and I do not know JQuery. Infopath is ok but if this can be done through SharePoint 2007 alone then it would be great.
    Thanks....

    Hello,
You can either use jquery/jaavscript or infopath form to achieve this. There is no default way to do this.
I would suggest jquery because you can put script in newform/editfor.aspx page using content editor webpart. Refer this link for jquery:
    To get value from list:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ac47fe2a-ccb6-4f5b-b274-703aecc6cb0a/get-list-items-in-sharepoint-2010-by-using-jquery
    http://www.robertkuzma.com/2010/08/read-list-items-using-sharepoint-web-services-and-jquery/
    To set value in column:
    http://paulgalvinsoldblog.wordpress.com/2009/06/13/quick-and-easy-use-jquery-to-set-a-text-field%E2%80%99s-value-on-a-sharepoint-form/
    http://spservices.codeplex.com/discussions/468729
If you use infopath form, then you need to create two data connection to get data from both lists. Later you can set value in fields based on selection using rule. This can be possible without code.
    Hope it could help

  • Urgent : proc_MatchSchedSubscriptions blocking SQL process (and so SharePoint 2007). Event log is managed by this procedure and contains millions of entries

    Hello,
We have an intranet platform with 8000 users on SharePoint 2007.
We currently have issues every day around 9am or 8:30am : The intranet is not responding (white page loading during minutes) until we kill a process in SQL that is blocking every other process.
The process that is blocking other calls a procedure called : "proc_MatchSchedSubscriptions"
This procedure manage 3 tables :
    SchedSubscriptions
    EventLog
    EventSubsMatches
We notice that the Table EventLog has 1.3M entries after 4 days (this table is cleaned every weeks right ?).
This is a really an issue because if we don't kill the process, the intranet won't work at all. We have to do that almost every morning.

  • Unable to edit document from SharePoint 2007 using Office 2013 and IE 11

I am getting the following error when I try to edit a document from SharePoint 2007: "Edit document

    1) repaired Office; 2) switched from 64 bit version of IE to 32 bit version; 3) moved the owssupp.dll from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\ to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15; 4) tried removing old versions of Office (but
I still need to use Office Communicator 2007 r2 and couldn't figure out how to get rid of the Office14 files from Program Files); and 5) running SharePoint in IE compatibility mode. Please advise...thanks!

    Hi,
It seems you installed mixed version Office2007/2010/2013 on your client machine?
I would suggest you remove all Office 2007 and 2010 version, and reinstall Office 2013(include Office Tools->Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Support component) on your machine, and make sure "Open SharePointDocuments class" add-on is enabled
from IE11, then check if it could fix the issue.
If above works, please test again after installing the Office Communicator 2007 r2 on your machine.
