SharePoint 2007 - the best practice to detached/remove a content database from a web app without any Farm impact

Best
practice to remove content databases from SharePoint 2007 without any Farm
impact <o:p></o:p>

Hi  ,
For removing a content database from a Web application, you can take steps as below:
1.On the Manage Content Databases page, click the content database that you want to remove.
2.On the Manage Content Database Settings page, in the Remove Content Database section, select the Remove content database check box.
If any sites are currently using this database, a message box appears. Click OK to indicate that you want to proceed with the removal.
3.Click OK.

  • What is the best practice way of stopping a sub-domain from being indexed?

    Hi there
I notice that a client site is being indexed as both xxx.com.au [their primary domain] as well as xxx.PARTNERDOMAIN.com.au.
I have Googled quite a bit on the subject and have browsed the forums, but can't seem to find any specific best practice approach to only having the primary domain indexed.
One method that seems to be the most recommended is having a second robots.txt site for the sub-domain xxx.PARTNERDOMAIN.com.au with Disallow: /
Does anyone have a definitive recommendation?
    Many thanks
    Gavin

Sorry I assumed they were two different sites, they are the same "content" just two different URLs?
Canonical links will help but it wont stop or remove you being indexed it only adds higher index weight to the Canonical linked URL. Plus only search engines that support that meta tag will work.
You essentially need two robots.txt to do this effectively or add the META TAG if you can split the sites somehow.
There is a more complex way, you could host the second domain somewhere else, use htaccess or similar to do a reverse proxy to the main site to pull the contents in realtime, all except the robots.txt file. This way you could have two sites with only 1 to update but still have two robots.txt's
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_proxy
I've done this for a few sites, you are essentially adding a middle man, it will be a tad slower depending on how far the two servers are apart, but it is like having a cname domain but with total control.

  • What is the Best practice for ceramic industry?

    Dear All;
i would like to ask two questions:
1- which manufacturing category (process or discrete) fit ceramic industry?
2- what is the Best practice for ceramic industry?
please note from the below link
    [https://websmp103.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700000409682008E ]
i recognized that ceramic industry is under category called building material which in turn under mill product and mining
but there is no best practices for building material or even mill product and only fabricated meta and mining best practices is available.
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
I understand that you refer to production of ceramic tiles. The solution for PP was process, with these setps: raw materials preparation (glazes and frits), dry pressing (I don't know extrusion process), glazing, firing (single fire), sorting and packing. In Spain, usually are All-in-one solutions (R/3 o ECC solutions). Perhaps the production of decors have fast firing and additional processes.
In my opinion, the curiosity is in batch determination in SD, that you must determine in sales order because builders want that the order will be homogeneus in tone and caliber, and he/she can split the order in diferents deliveries. You must think that batch is tone (diferents colours in firing and so on) and in caliber.
    I hope this helps you

    Eduardo

  • What is the best Practice JCO Connection Settings for DC  Project

When multiple users are using the system data is missing from Web Dynpro Screens.  This seems to be due to running out of connections to pull data.
I have a WebDynpro Project based on component development using DC's.  I have one main DC which uses other DC's as Lookup Windows.  All DC's have their Own Apps.  Also inside the main DC screen, the data is populated from multiple function modules.
There are about 7 lookup DC Apps accessed by the user
I have created JCO destinations with following settigns
    Max Pool Size 20
    Max Number of Connections 200
Before I moved to DC project it was regular Web Dynpro Project with one Application and all lookup windows were inside the same Project.  I never had the issue with the same settings.
Now may be becuase of DC usage and increase in applications I am running out of connections.
Has any one faced the problem.  Can anyone suggest the best practice of how to size JCO connections.
It does not make any sense that just with 15-20 concurrent users I am seeing this issue.
All lookup components are destroyed after its use and is created manually as needed.  What else can I do to manage connections
    Any advise is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • What would be the best practice?

    Hello,
Sorry for the question, but I am new in JSP. I am concerned about the architeture of my application, and looking for the best practices.
What are the best practices for persistence in a relational database? I need to make queries and map the tables into objects, but wich approach should I take?
Certainly I do not want to make a page full of scriptlets... ;)
    Thanks

There are several technologies available to help map objects from relational dbs to objects.
    Object Relational Bridge - http://db.apache.org/ojb/
    Jaxor - http://jaxor.sourceforge.net/
    Hibernate - http://hibernate.bluemars.net/
    Castor - http://castor.exolab.org/
Just to name a few. Each has its strengths and weaknesses.
Those will help you create objects from your relational tables. From there it becomes a matter of creating a model for your application. Here are a few good links which explain some strategies for accomplishing this.
    Front Controller Pattern - http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/FrontController.html
    Data Access Objects - http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/DataAccessObject.html
Or if your app is very simple you could probably get away with calling your data objects directly from your JSP. If you decide something like a front-controller is appropriate for your app you should look into the Apache Struts framework (http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/) which will facilitate the ubiquitous MVC pattern. There is also plenty of info available on the site as to what MVC is if you aren't familar with it.
    Hope that helps,

  • What are the best practices for Database management and performance tuning?

    Hello,
I want to ensure that I am using the best practices for managing and maintaining our Database.
Is there any documentation out there that outlines how to maintain and ensure top performance out of our database?
    Thank you!
    John Sefton

I appreciate the responses, however this is not the information I am looking for.
I am specificaly looking for best practices invloving the managment and performance tuning.
Example: are their tools that I can install that will monitor the size and response time of the database and alert me if there is degradation in performance?
Are there specific periodic activities I should be doing to garuntee that my database will continue to function that way it is supposed to?
Or is this a fire and forget solution that does not need this attention?

  • What is the best practice to deploy the SharePoint site from test to production environment?

We are beginning to start a new SharePoint 2010 and 2013 development projects, soon developing new features, lists, workflows, customizations to the SharePoint site, customization to list forms and would like to put good practice (that will help in deployment)
in place before going ahead with development.
What is the best way to go about deploying my site from Development to Production?
I am using Visual Studio 2012 and also have Designer 2013...
I have already read that this can be done through powershell, also through visual studio and also via designer. But at this point I am confused as to which are best practices specifically for lists, configurations; workflows; site customizations; Visual studio
development features; customization to list forms etc. You can also provide me reference to links/ebook covering this topic.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Nachiket,
You can follow below approach where the environments has been built in similar fashion
    http://thesharepointfarm.com/sharepoint-test-environments/
if you have less data then you can use  http://spdeploymentwizard.codeplex.com/
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/b0bdb2ec-4005-441a-a233-7194e4fef7f7/best-way-to-replicate-production-sitecolletion-to-test-environment?forum=sharepointadminprevious
For custom solutions like workflows etc you can always build the WSP packages and deploy across the environments using powershell scripts.
    Hope this helps.

  • What are the best practices for audit report for SharePoint 2013 farm ?

    Hello,
I am looking for the best practices for audit reporting in SharePoint 2013 farm. Can anyone please provide me checklist/tools/guidelines on same ?
your help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Dipti Chhatrapati

This is quite open ended question. A sharepoint farm should be well maintained as per :
    1. Microsoft's recommendations on : Topology, Hardware and Software requirements, Operational procedures and most important Capacity guidelines:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff758645(v=office.15).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(v=office.15).aspx
    2. Organisation's IT policies and procedures : Farm Configuration, Workload and monitoring
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff758658(v=office.15).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee748651(v=office.15).aspx
    3. Industry best practices
I would suggest to start thinking over these lines and create a plan for your Sharepoint farm.
You can then create powershell scripts to run these reports at certain frequency to find the changes, any deviation from the standard and health of the entire farm.
    Hope this helps!!

  • What is the best practice for BADI?

Hi all, this is my first post.
I've seen many BADI examples here at SDN and elsewhere where after defining the badi at SE18, and the implementation at SE19, you just create a Z program and call the badi and its method. No brainer. I know how to use the new badi of 'get badi' and 'call badi' instead of the classic exit handler. So I do know how to call a badi properly, in a Z program.
However, SAP's intention of BADI is to replace the traditional user exit. My question is how do you guys use badi in replacement of user exit?
User exits have 'call customer-functions' where you put your code in the Z includes, without touching standard SAP programs. Where/how do i link standard programs to call my badi? Even if I implement a standard bapi, my implementation is a Z. And a standard bapi and its methods are, well, standard. How do I call the Z stuff.
    1. If using cmod, call customer-function and the z include to call my badi and method, how does that replace user exit if I'm still using cmod???
    2. I've seen people add includes in a standard function-pool. The Z include calls the badi. But doing so is a modification, which I thought is to be avoided.
So my question is what is the best practice out there, how do you guys use badi for enhancement in replacement of user exit? In combination of cmod, adding includes in standard programs, other methods?

    Hi Shawn,
    Welcome to SDN
First thing, you got the whole concept of BADI partially wrong.
BADI are like user-exits only and the difference is it uses ABAP OO an some more functionalities.
As you find in the code CALL CUSTOMER FUNCTION, the same way there are exit handlers for BADI.
User Exits are not completely removed. They are still there and will be there. Its just the extra flexibility with BADI.

    Atish

  • The best practice of using CQ.Ext.slider.Tip

    Hi everyone,
Could anyone suggest how to use CQ.Ext.slider.Tip ?
    I've tried the next one.
    I've written js file with the code: CQ.Ext.reg('slidertip', CQ.Ext.slider.Tip);
    I've included this file.
Then I have the next structure:
    N:cq:Widget
         P:xtype:multislider
         N:plugins
              P:cq:WidgetCollection
                   N:cq:Widget
                        P:xtype: slidertip
And it does not work. When I remove "plugins" node the slider works fine. But with plugins node it does not work at all

I've found a way how to do it.
I've defined my own component, e.g.
    CQ.Ext.slider.ColumnsSlider = CQ.Ext.extend(CQ.Ext.slider.MultiSlider, {
              plugins: new CQ.Ext.slider.Tip()
    CQ.Ext.reg('columnsslider', CQ.Ext.slider.ColumnsSlider);
    So now CQ.Ext.slider.Tip works fine.
But I am not sure, that it is the best practice.
That would be very pleasant to hear opinions of CQ gurus.

  • What is the best practices recommended from microsoft to give access a intranet portal from internet externally

    Hi
what is the best practices recommended from microsoft
i have a intranet portal in my organization used by employees  and i want to give access for employees to access external from  internet also
can i use same url  for employees access intranet portal from internally and externally or diffrent url?
    like ( https://extranet.xyz.com.in)  and (http://intranet.xyz.com.in)
internal url access by employees is( http://intranet.xyz.com.in)
and this portal configured with claims based authentication
here i have a F5 for load blance and
a request from external to F5 is https request and F5 to sharepoint server http request
and sharepoint server to F5 is http request but F5 to external users it is https response so
when i change below settings in alternate access mapings   all links changed to https
but only authentication link is still showing http and authentication page not opened.
    adil

    Hi,
One of my clients has an environment similar to yours with an internal pair of F5s and a pair used for the access from the internet.
I am only going to focus on the method using an F5 Load Balancer and SSL Offloading. the setup of the F5 will not be covered in detail but a reference to the documentation to support SharePoint and SSL Offloading will be provided
Since you arte going to be using SSL Offloading you do not need to extend your WebApps to use separate IIS WebSites with Unique IP Addresses
Configure the F5 with SSL Offloading
Configure a Internal AAM for SSL (HTTPS) for each WebApp that maps to the Public HTTP FQDN AAM Setting for each WebApp
Our environment has an additional component we require RSA Authentication for all internet facing Sites. So we have the extra step of extending the WebApp to a separate IIS WebSite and configuring RSA for each extended WebSite.Reference:
    Reference SharePoint F5 Configuration:

  • What is the best practice to protect coldfusion administrator login page

    Hi all,
Can someone suggest what is the best practice to protect the administrator login? At the moment, there is only the normal administrator page password to protect. It seems like not very secure especially when the application is on the internet.
    Regards,
    Bubblegum.

You can protect the page with file system level privs.  Setup a new virtual server that maps to a seperate copy of /cfide (and remove /admin and /adminapi from the other cfide folder your internet sites use).  Limit what IP addresses can hit /cfide.
We run multiple instances, so we connect directly to each instance to manage it.  And those ports aren't accessable on the internet.  To top it off, we have an ISAPI ReWrite rule that sends a 404 if you try /cfide/administrator or adminapi.
If you're using CF8, you can set it up so it requires a specific username instead of a generic name.

  • The Best Practices

    Hi All,
We are building some reporting solution (POC) for the EBS kind of tables where we are having the Base and the TL tables. When a user logins in to the OBIEE the OBIEE session variable WEBLANGUAGE gives the code as 'en' for english and for the chinese it gives as 'zh', whereas in EBS we have the LANGUAGE column storing the data as 'US' for (US (english) language) and ZHS (for the simplified chinese) and so on and so forth for the rest of the languages.
My question is what is the best practice to have the mapping between 'en' to 'US', 'zh' to 'ZHS' and so on, so that the proper language rows are picked from the TL tables.
    Looking forward for your replies.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I guess the best way is via a connection script on the connection pool and additional variables and initialization blocks. In Oracle's EBSAnalyticMaster.rpd which they deliver with eBS it's working that way. Maybe you can get your hands on this rpd.
    Also check Gerard Braat's blog to see how the authentication works;

  • What's the best practice to partition an existing table?

We are using Oracle 11g EE 11.2.0.3.0. We want to partition an existing table. I found some information from this link [http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/misc/partitioning-an-existing-table.php], but I am not sure whether that's the best way. Could anyone share the best practice of partitioning an existing table?
    Thanks.
    Jun

    >
We want to partition a few related tables. A couple of tables have about 30 million rows, and a couple of other tables have about 10 million rows. The data for those tables is for ~2000 accounts, each of them is identified by a column named "account_id". We want to partition the tables by using the "account_id" as the partition key to gain better performance for queries, so we would probably use hash partition. Please advise.
    >
    1. What evidence do you have that your performance will be any better if you partition those tables?
    2. What evidence do you have that there is anything wrong with the performance of your current queries?
    3. Have you reviewed the actual execution plans for your most important queries to see if there is even any room for improvement?
If your query uses account_id as a predicate but only pulls a few records from a 'master' table for that key value your performance may actually be worse if you partition that table. That is because using an index range scan Oracle can easily find the ROWIDs of the rows that need to be selected and then easily retrieve them regardless of their physical location.
If you have queries that do NOT use account_id but currently use indexes the performance of those queries may also be worse if you partition that table. Those indexes will be GLOBAL.
There are two major implications when you use hash partitioning:
    1. Any query that does NOT include the partitioning key (account_id for your case) will, of necessity, have to use a full table scan if an appropriate index is not available.
    2. You will get NO management benefits such as being able to add/remove partitions that include old data.
Before you decide to partition a table you should conduct tests and examine the execution plans for your important queries.
