Sharepoint 2010 Library - All documents are Read Only regardless of permissions and clicking edit

Good afternoon all,
I'm running out of places for me to find assistance on this issue, and am hoping you can help. We're running Sharepoint 2010 as our Intranet. Myself and the rest of the IT staff are administrators, and we're looking under a section that we're specifically
in control of where we have documents for our use. One of the administrators reported that he wasn't able to open a document, and neither was I. This was an older spreadsheet that was never converted. I couldn't open it either, nor could I delete it or manipulate
the entry in the library. I could open explorer and open the file that way, or download it through Chrome.
I was able to remove the file, upconvert the file to .xlsx, and reupload it. Now myself and the users are able to open the file, but we can't manipulate it. In addition to this, it seems that any Office file that we attempt to open in Sharepoint opens up
in Read Only. If we click Read Only, and hit Edit, it stays Read Only (once in a blue moon it allows us to edit it). If we hit edit it still says Read Only at the top.
I'm not the most experienced at Sharepoint so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
For your issue, try to get rid of the serviceDebug and serviceMetadata entries in the web application's web.config:
<behaviors>
<serviceBehaviors>
<behavior>
<serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" />
<serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" />
</behavior>

  • [10.0.7 ESR] Temporary documents are read-only again, even with the "browser.helperAppsbrowser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit" parameter set on "false". Why?

We currently updated from the old 3.6 Firefox to the ESR version 10.0.7. Eversince we've used Firefox we've had a problem with documents being read-only when downloaded temporarily. But we've found the solution by finding the entry
    browser.helperAppsbrowser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit
in the about:config and setting it on false. Documents were writeable again, and the world was full of fluffy unicorns and rainbows.
But that doesn't seem to be sufficient when using Firefox 10.0.7 ESR, since that entry is set but all our documents are read-only again. We checked that it is a Firefox issue by deactivating all add-ons to be sure, that it's the browser itself that makes that setting.
What is the cause and how can we change it back to them being writeable again?
    Andrea

While that may be best practice, it doesn't help in this case.
We use a system that creates documents by using templates and filling datafields with individual values based on the case that is being worked on. These documents are saved in the system and are only displayed for information purpose.
Still some of these documents have to be altered. The system offers this possibility by letting you edit the temp file and load it back up, so that the altered document is saved in the system. The document gets a unique file name in the temp folder which includes numbers so that the system can identify which document in the system should be overwritten by the altered version.
Since the documents aren't meant to be on the local harddrive anyway but in the system, "save as..." is no real solution in this case.

  • Files/folders created in Windows share are read-only... why and how to fix?

    Client: MacBook Pro running 10.7.5
    Server: Windows 7 desktop
I'm sharing a folder from the Windows 7 machine and mounting it on my Mac using Finder's "Connect to Server..." and an smb:// URI. I'm providing a user ID/password for an account on the Windows 7 box that has full control over the shared folder, via smb://userid:password@server/share.
The volume mounts properly on my desktop, can I can see files/folders there as expected. However:
If I create a folder, it's read-only. I cannot create any files inside (or even see inside), rename the folder, or delete the folder. The folder has a badge: red circle with bar.
If I create a file, it's read-only. I cannot rename it, delete it or edit it.
If I examine File Info via Finder on any of these files or folders, under Sharing & Permissions it says "You have custom access."
If I try to delete these files/folders, I get error code -8072. I can delete them from the command-line, but I can't otherwise manipulate them.
I've verified on the Windows box that the user ID I'm using has full control of the folder. I've also set it so Everyone has full control, with no difference.
This seems to have been a recent change in behaviour (a few weeks ago I was copying data to this drive, no problem), and it's driving me crazy because I can't figure out how to fix it.

To change permissions in our Applications Folder:
    Select Applications Folder.
    Get Info (Command + i)
Go down to Ownership & Permissions
Click on arrow next to Details to expand.
    Click on lock and authenticate
    Owner is system
    Group is admin
Change all permissions to Read & Write except Others
    Other can Read only.

  • Display Word Document as read only in VI pannel

In a VI pannel I put an Active X container with the IE browser to display Word documents.
The document are displayed properly but I want not give the user the possibility to make changes while viewing.
Is there a solution to do so?
(The documents are read-only and can not be saved.)

Why use an IE container to display Word documents? You can place a word document directly in the ActiveX container. This seems a better choice.
If you wish to totally block user-input, you can place a transparent picture control over the display of the Word document.
Another alternative would be to convert the word document to a PDF and show this in an AcviteX container.

  • All of my files in OSX Lion are read only, why?

I've just upgraded to a new Mac Mini which has OSX Lion, Version 10.7.3. I don't use the admin login for security reasons, I'm using a separate user login. When I want to modify a document (delete a document/folder or move a document into a folder) I have to type in the admin login every time. I've looked in the Get Info window of some, and the Sharing and Permissions all say Read Only.
Why are all my files Read Only? Is there a way to make everything in my login Read and Write without manually changing them all individually?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • All Lumia 928 folders are 'read-only'

So all of a sudden, all the folders on my Lumia 928 are marked as read-only regardless of the PC it is plugged into, and I can no longer drag and drop files between the phone and PC because of it - it tells me I don't have permission or something like that. Not only that, the read-only checkbox is greyed out as you can see in the attachment, so I can't uncheck it to fix the problem. No dedicated software (Zune, Windows Phone Software) works either, and I have exhausted all possibilitiues I can think of.
It's clearly something with the phone since it happens on all PCs, and I suspect a setting, but I can't figure out which. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd welcome them.

Did you try after rebooting the Phone ? Its all 'Read-only' with my Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 1020 too but Drag-Drop or Copy-Paste is possible ...

  • Photographs all are read only??

Hi folks. I wasn't sure where to put this question so it may not be in the right place. I have the iMac and my wife has a Dell PC (poor thing :0)). I copied all of the photo's she has collected onto a DVD to transfer them to my iMac for editing and future publishing to the web. I use Photo Shop Elements 6 to do this with, but it would not let me edit due to insufficient permissions! I must admit I chuckled when that came up since I took most of these photo's. So I opened Finder, browsed to the directory where the photo's are and using "Get Info" I found that all of these photo's and directories and subdirectories (literally hundreds of photo's) are read only permission. All I'm looking for is a way to make them all read/write en masse. Is there a way?
    Thanks,
    Rich

    Hi Richard
I don't have a-lot of experience with the windows OS's, but do share hundreds of JPEG images every year with PC user's and that sounds like a problem with the photo files or the way they were burned onto the DVD. If you have a MS-DOS FAT 32 formatted External HD, a Flash Drive or Card Reader & Camera Card you should have no problems transferring the Original JPEG Photo Files back and forth between a Windows box and Mac.

  • Submitting PDF Form to SharePoint 2010 Library

I've inherited a simple PDF form created with LiveCycle ES2. We'd like to be able to let users Submit the result of the form in a PDF format, to a SharePoint 2010 Library using a Submit button. I've added a button and configured the Control Type to Submit. I've added a SharePoint library to the Submit to URL: field and changed to Submit to PDF. Now when I click the button, it opens the SharePoint library but nothing is there. I'm sure there's more I need to do to get this working. Do I need to install the server-side stuff for LiveCycle on the SharePoint server?

This is not striclty my area of expertise so I don't want to give you a bum steer - at best my response is vague but it may give you a few clues of where to start looking. I'm not too sure how you might have confgured this but your PDF form needs somewhere to send the data and then receive and store it - that's not a SharePoint list or document library (I seem to recall reading somewhere that you can do clever stuff with PDF and SharePoint but I don't think it works out of the box like you're describing here - that info basically alluded to using PDF and SharePoint together [like marketing statements] but didn't go into the hows). I suspect that submitting a PDF form may result in an XML data stream but don't quote me on that either. Alternatively if Acrobat is going to collate results then I think the form being submitted may need to end up in the same locaiton as the "master" PDF form but again I'm guessing a bit here too. For all intents the "master" pdf form may need to reside in SharePoint (and as a result it is addressable on a URL or as a file via WebDAV) in which case it will (or ought to) function like any other PDF form where you can collate results to a spreadsheet. If thats all it can do then using SharePoint seems moot. I think Google is your friend here :-)

  • How to set only part of the document as "read-only"?

    Hi,
I am using SharePoint 2010. I would like to set some of the columns as "read-only" while some of them are still editable. If I use Advanced Settigns>Item-Level Permissions, I can only set the whole document as "read-only".
Is there a way I can do what I wannt?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
There is no OOTB way to set a column as read-only.  I think you want to make some of the fields as Read-Only in the EditForm.aspx. If so, then you can use the Javascript to do.
Add a Content editor webpart to the Editform.aspx page and place the javascript method to make a field read-only.
You can use the _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("MakeReadOnly()") method to assocaite your method to the EditForm.
Here are the links which will help you.

  • Open a document in read only mode

    HI All,
I created a panel in which we have
edit box which shows the document path
Browse button to allow a user to select an indesign document
    "Open read only" button.
My requirement is that after selecting an Indesign document if user click to "OPen read only" button then it will opened selected document in read only mode.
I will be highly thankfull to all community memeber if anyone can give me some hint to achieve this.
    Regards,
    Alam

    Alam,
If you change the attributes of the file before opening it to read only the file will be opened as read only by Indesign. And then you could place a responder that could clear this read only flag when the file is being closed so that the permissions are restored to the original state.

  • Headquarter Error : Property 'DocEntry' of 'Document' is read only

    Hi All,
I had followed "How to Build & Run a B12B1 Scenario" Documentation and until I created a biz package and activated successfully. But when I try to create a PO in the subsidiary system, It sends ok, but I get the following error in admin console > monitoring > error inbox under the headquarter :
com.sap.b1i.xcellerator.XcelleratorException: XCE001 Nested exception: com.sap.b1i.bizprocessor.BizProcException: BPE001 Nested exception: com.sap.b1i.xcellerator.XcelleratorException: XCE001 Nested exception: com.sap.b1i.xcellerator.XcelleratorException: XCE001 Nested exception: java.lang.RuntimeException: Invoke of: GetBusinessObjectFromXML Source: Description: CServiceData::VerifyPropertyWrite failed; Property 'DocEntry' of 'Document' is read only
    Your help is appreciated.
    Hany

    Hi Hany,
the error message tells you that the field DocEntry is a read-only property. That means this field must not occur in the receiver payload. The fields DocEntry, DocNum etc. will be created automatically by the receiving system.
Please have a look at the SDK Help (DI Reference) according to your current version. There you will see which fields are read-only.
    Kind regards,

  • Fields for creation of BP in cProjects front-end are read-only

    Hi everyone,
I'm a beginner in SAP-Development/Customizing so I hope this question isn't too easy
    I can't create a Business Partner using the cProjects front-end (Ressources > Staffing) because the necessary fields and buttons are read-only... (> web-Dynpro Component: DPR_ROL_STAFF; View-Info: VI_SEARCH_CREATE)
    I'm using CPRXRPM 450_700 patch 0006
    The field-control is standard-SAP (0SAP).
    My user-account has all cProject-roles + SAP-ALL
I assume i can change the behaviour of these fields in the Field Control but I can't identify which is the corresponding Object Category to apply the changes.
    - Is there a documentation which field belongs to which Object Category in Field Control?
    - Or can somebody tell me a procedure to find it out on my own?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
generally it is recommended to use transaction BP or ALE distribution to get the business partner be created.
If you would like to create the BP in web UI directly, the user must have the Structural Authorization, see customizing path:
Collaboration Projects -> Resource Management -> Organizational Management.
It is very HR related topic, you may contact a HR consultant to know more details about it.
    Kind regard,
    Zhenbo

  • All folders changed Read Only

Okay, so recently, just about all my folders (including every subfolder in iTunes and the such) have become read only. So whenever i try to change something, i need to set that folder back to read and write for Me. This is very annoying, and I don't know what happened to make all the folders read only.
Is there some way to change all the permissions on my disk back to Read and Write for Me (the administrator) without going through every single folder?

first, whatever you do, don't try to make everything on your hard drive read+write for yourself. this will invariably brick the system and you'll have to reinstall. there is no other outcome possible.
where exactly are the problem files located? only in your itunes folder? somewhere else in your home directory? what exactly does the permissions panel for such files say?

Is there a way to flip the pages in a .pdf so that all of the text is readable (in other words all documents are right side up)?  I have Adobe Acrobat X and am using Windows 8.1.

I have a pdf with over 2,000 pages, many of which are sideways.  I do not want to manually flip each one (few are next to each other).  Is there a way to automate the function so that all sideways or upside down text pages are righted?
