I have SharePoint 2010 with Project server 2010. Please confirm if I install SP2 for Project server it will also contain SP2 for SharePoint.
Below is link

Have followed the suggestions re clearing cache, starting the timer service, etc., but not joy.
What could be the cause?  Thanks!!!
PS It's broken the backup too, but I understand that's "normal"... :o/

I will try your command though!
    Thanks! :o)

  • Upgrading both SharePoint 2010 server and DB server with latest available patch

We have 2 servers in the farm ( SharePoint server and Database server)
We are planning to patch the database server and SharePoint server as well at the same time.
For this activity I have found some ways :
    Way 1:
First I will do the patching in SP server and run the configuration wizard.
Once it's finished , I will shutdown the SP server.
    Start patching in SQL server
After done in Sql server , I will restart the SP server.
    Way 2:
First I will do the patching in SP server and run the configuration wizard.
Once it's finished , I will disconnect the SP server from SQL server by using the configuration wizard.
    Start patching in SQL server
After done in Sql server , I will reconnect both the server's.
    Way 3:
I don't follow any one of the above ways. Simply patch both the server's one by one (Here might be, when we do the DB server patch upgrade database connection failed entries will be track into event viewer because of DB server unavailability )
    Here my questions are :
If disconnect the server's from each other , can I reestablish the connection again ?? Is there that option ???
Is it compulsory to disconnect / shutdown the SP server while patching in DB server ???????
Suppose I don't follow any of the above way , cause any issues ?????
If any DB connection related entries will track into Event Viewer, is this cause any issues ?????
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    RameshNK

Patching order will not matter. You also do not necessarily have to shutdown SharePoint while patching SQL. Yes, SharePoint will throw errors in the Event Log and ULS log.
I might suggest patching SQL Server first, simply because it is quick and in my experience, "safe". That is, the patching process works and works well. It is unlikely you'll come out with an unserviceable SQL Server instance.

  • How to Restore a SharePoint 2010 Sitecollection from Prod to Pre-Prod?

How to Restore a SharePoint 2010 Sitecollection from Prod to Pre-Prod?
The patching levels are different from each environment.
    Tools installation is same.
Note: Suggest me to restore a site from site template without content.
If you have any better approach please tell me.
    Many Thanks,
    Madhu

    Hi Madhu,
It isn't possible (out of the box) to restore a production to a development site without the content.
If you're happy with restoring the content, it's quite easy to backup a SharePoint farm and then restore only a site (form the farm backup) to a development farm.
Have a look at these forum posts for more info (in the first link, I gave an example script):

  • Workflow stuck in starting state after applying SharePoint 2010 CU December 2012

I have custom visual studio workflow which are associated with Custom content type. workflow gets triggered automatically when a file is uploaded to SharePoint. Everything was working fine till when i apply the following CU
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/joerg_sinemus/archive/2012/12/27/sharepoint-2010-and-december-2012-cu.aspx
After applying this my workflow get stuck in "Starting" state.
No error were logged in 14 hive logs.
    Thanks in Advance!

It took me a while but I came up with a work around.  There is a PowerShell script below that can be used to trigger the workflow.  Hopefully this will hold all of us over until the official fix arrives.
First remove the auto start on change or new from the affected workflow
Edit the script below to match your environment
Add the script to Windows task scheduler with the PowerShell.exe in the command line
This assumes PowerShell.exe is in the path
Then add the full path and script name in the add arguements text box
    Script:
#The purpose of this script is to start the SPD workflow with the windows task scheduler for a trigger
#This should avoid the check in-out issue caused by the December 2012 SP CU patch
#This needs to be run on an account with membership in the farm administration group for SharePoint and Shell in SQL
#You can use a find and replace to replace the server and other names with your actual names
#There are no status messages being used since this will be a scheduled task in the Windows task scheduler
#Add SharePoint modules and create variable space
    add-pssnapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell
    start-spassignment -global
#Open the web site, list and the workflow
    $site=get-spsite %site url%"
    $web=get-spweb %Web url%
#Open the %affected% library or list and workflow association
    $%affected%=$web.getlist("%affected%")
    $manager=$site.workflowmanager
    $culture=[system.globalization.cultureinfo]::currentculture
    $wfname="%affected workflow name"
    $association=$%affected%.workflowassociations.getassociationbyname($wfname,$culture)
    $data=$association.associationdata
    $wfrunoption=[microsoft.sharepoint.workflow.spworkflowrunoptions]::synchronous
    #Start workflow
    foreach ($item in $%affected%.items) {
    $site.workflowmanager.startworkflow($item,$association,$data,$wfrunoption)
    stop-spassignment -global

  • SharePoint 2010 100% cpu w3wp.exe after windows server update desember 2013

    Hi
Using SharePoint 2010 with 2 frontend webservers and 1 appserver:
Our ApplicationPool for our portal workerprocess has for a second time gone up to and stuck on 99% CPU on one of our 2 frontend webservers.
What happens is that this server falls out of the NLB cluster, and the only way to get it back is to log onto the server and through task manager stop the worker process (w3wp). We checked to see what the applicationPool was, and it was for the portal site.
The first time it happened was just after the installation of the following windows server patches: Actuall on the very same day. The patches were installed on the early morning of the 18th december 2013.
The event id for the spesific events show:
18.12.2013 14:45 Event id 7011, Service Control manager:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the VMTools service.
    and
09.01.2014 08:36 Event id 7011 Service Control Manager
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.
In adition there are a lot of random:
    Event id 105, Warning: NLB:
NLB cluster []: Timer starvation has been detected. This might be due to a denial of service attack or a very high server load. During this period, some connections might fail. If this problem recurs frequently, analyze the threat and take appropriate measures
and/or add more servers to the cluster. An informational event log entry will be logged when the attack has subsided.
I'm suspecting that this was caused because of one of the updates, allthough the "Event id 105", Warning: NLB did exist prior to the patch updates, but would only appear once every 2-3 weeks. After December 18 2013 these "Event id 105"
messages appear about 6-11 times a day!
any one seen something like it?
    I see microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922918/eng
Event 7011, has a workaround to increase the default time-out value for the service to for example 60 seconds instead of 30. Would this be a good solution?
    brgs
    Bjorn

    Hi ,
For the temp solution u can do app pool recycle or iisreset when the cpu usage goes 100%.
And check which worker processor is consuming that much memory and checked related to that web application.

  • Need to Upgrade Sharepoint 2010 to SP2- advise!

    Hello All,
I do not work on SharePoint services much, basic operations only.  I am entitled to upgrade the SP application and backend SQL in order to make it compatible with our Backup Solution (Symantec Backup Exec 2014).
We got 2 servers, one is running the SharePoint 2010 application (v 14.0.5136.5002), and another is running the MS SQL Server (SQL V10.0.2531.0) for database.
We want to upgrade  1) SP from v 14.0.5136.5002 into Service Pack 2 (14.0.7015.1000)
                                       2) SQL from (SQL V10.0.2531.0) into SP3 (10.0.5500.0).
I am referring to following threads for version sequence and downloads, apparently correct and helpful-
    SP: http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=224
    SQL: http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.com/
My question is,  1) while upgrading which one to go first - Sharepoint App server or SQL server? What's the best  Sequence?
                              2) Can I upgrade SP and SQL from current version to the mentioned version, by directly downloading and
installing those versions? Or I have to deploy any hotfixes/patches prior to that release from the current one?
    Thanks for any advises.
    Insaf Muhammed

HI Muhammad,There is no Sequence for SQL,SP.we can do first SQL and next SP.please find the details below for Sp-Sp2 and SQL.You can find all the latest updates and patches in Cumulative update in post categories.

Thank you very much Mr. Anil for the advise and SP link!
Great article for SP SP2 upgrade with screenshots.  So as I understand I can go ahead and install SQL SP3 and SP SP2 downloads on top of current releases I have and everything should be OK!
I couldn't see the SQL SP3 deployment part around, could you post if you got one?
    Thanks a lot :)

  • Browser based InfoPath Forms in SharePoint 2010 performance has slowed down after SharePoint 2010 SP2

    hi All,
Our Browser based Infopath forms have slowed down drastically after applying SharePoint 2010 SP2. Prior to this, we had SharePoint 2010 SP1 and the timings was around 10 seconds (single user) for the entire infopath form to be displayed which has 10-12
views and 5 data connections and 15 business rules and around 100 fields.
But now after applying sharepoint 2010 sp2, the performance has slowed down and it now takes for a single user around 50 seconds.
Refer to the link below, which we followed by applying the patch as well, but the performance is still the same very slow.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0b673324-01c4-49f7-86cb-647aa43fefd6/infopath-browser-forms-extremely-slow-after-service-pack-2-upgrade?forum=sharepointadminprevious
We have raised a ticket with Microsoft, but there is no concrete resolution as to what component of the infopath has made the form rendering and display slow.
Can someone point me to the right resource or knowledge base where i can do a kind of debug, which tells me exactly which infopath dlls are the issue or which part of my form is taking more time. I am using AOLPageTest and Fiddler, but they do not give me
any details where exactly is the bottleneck.
Any tools that give me the details of the bottleneck.
Thanks and appreciate your help in this.
    Regards
    Ram
    Thanks Ram

    hi inderjeet,
The application has gone live and its on production, the same application is on pre-prod and UAT, system testing and integration environments.
The infopath form used to work very well on all these environments before we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2. but the moment we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2, the infopath forms have slowed down.
Microsoft has acknowledged that there is an issued with sharepoint 2010 sp2 and infopath form performance, but they are not able to provide an appropriate fix on this.
We have another environment where there is no sharepoint 2010 sp2 applied only sp1 is applied and the infopath form works very well within fraction of seconds.
So your point no. 1 and 2 and 3. does not reveal anything. Fiddler does not give any detailed component by component breakup where the time is taking more.
The form used to work very well before we applied sp2.
I want to know a tool that gives me exactly component by component grant chart kind of breakup of time taken when the infopath url is requested on the browser.
    Thanks
    ram
    Thanks Ram

  • Exporting SharePoint 2010 sub site to different domain/farm.

    Hi,
On my SharePoint 2010 Enterprise development VM I am building a sub site with nintex workflow and infopath form functionality. At some point it will be necessary to export this sub site (Export -SPWeb) from my dev VM to a UAT server and finally a production
server (the UAT and Production servers will have an AD trust relationship between them but my VM has a test contoso AD configured, i.e. a completely different DC) within different SharePoint 2010 Enterprise farms. Are my only concerns:
The SQL Server versions must match
The SharePoint product and patches must match
The nintex workflows can be deployed using the nintex command line
    Or am I being nieve?
    Thanks.

i think this is if you are using the Nintex workflows, then you need to run this command before
    NWAdmin.exe -o PrepareSiteForExpor
    and after import run
    this
     NWAdmin
    –o fixsiteafterimport

  • Unable to open Office files on SharePoint 2010 sites on Windows Server 2008 R2

Setup: Windows SharePoint Server 2010 sp1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (hosted on VMWare VSphere ESXi 5.1)
Secured using Domain SSL from GlobalSign.
    Client OS: Windows 7 Professional 32bit & Windows XP SP3 32 bit
    Browsers: IE10, IE9,IE8
    Office: Office 2010, Office 2010 sp2 (both 32bit), Office 2007
Problem Description: Only recently, users started having issues with opening Office files (Word, Excel) on SharePoint sites. When you click on an Office file e.g. Word Document, it comes up with the option to select "Ready only" or "Edit"
and choosing either options and re-entering the login credentials results in the
application hanging. If you leave it for a while (about 5 minutes) sometimes the file opens and other times it gives the error "Could not open https://portal.com/XXX/XXX/Document.docx". Even when it opens, it's extremely
sluggish and can't do anything other than end it via Task Manager. Same with excel files.
This happens to all the users all different OS and browsers.
On XP Pro SP3 w/ IE8, when you click on the file, the login prompt keeps popping back up repeatedly and if you click cancel, the file loads up anyway but no way of saving back onto the SharePoint site.
IMPORTANT: One exception is when logged in as a Site Collection Administrator, it
works like a dream bizarrely!!!! Opens, Edits and saves back fine on the SharePoint site.
    Have tried following:
    1. Repaired Office 2010 Pro; Uninstalled/Re-installed Office 2010 Pro
    2. Reset Browser, unticked automatically detect proxy settings.
    3. Emptied OfficeOfflineCache on Client
    4. Removed WebDAV from the SharePoint server
    5. Added Antivirus folder exclusion (We use SEP 11) on the SharePoint Server
Note: PDF files opens fine for all users.
I would immensely appreciate if anybody has got any advice/pointers/suggestions. Desperately out of ideas at the moment.
    regards,
    Compter Sez No!

    Hi,
According to your description, When you try to open a Microsoft Office document from a SharePoint 2010 site in a client application, the document opens slowly and you are prompted to enter your credentials multiple times.
This issue may be because of SharePoint Web Front End (WFE) server(s) has Antivirus software installed and the exceptions are not set correctly.
I recommend to remove the antivirus software or set the correct permissions for the antivirus software to resolve the issue.
To configure the antivirus exceptions, please follow the guidelines in the below articles:
    KB943620:
Folders to exclude when you perform a file-level antivirus scan on a server operating system.
    KB952167:
Certain folders may have to be excluded from antivirus scanning when you use a file-level antivirus program in SharePoint.
    KB943556:
Recommended file and folder exclusions for Microsoft Forefront Client Security or Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Reporting Services 2012 in SharePoint 2010 - do I need to install SSRS on each server?

Have spent some time today setting up SSRS2012 with SP1 Business Intelligence Edition on our test SharePoint 2010 farm.  The SharePoint farm is four servers (plus a database) - one of the application servers will host the SQL Server 2012 instance and
    SSRS 2012.
I've installed SSRS 2012 on one of the servers in SharePoint mode, and seems to be configured correctly in Central Admin - can view the system settings, it reports that the SQL Server Agent is running, etc.  I've also installed the SSRS 2012 SharePoint
Add-In on all servers.  However, I'm getting the following error whenever I try to do anything with reports (such as deploying or running):
Name=Request (POST:http://sharepoint/reports/ReportService2010.asmx) System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: The file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by
    the server administrators.
Sure enough, if I try to connect to that ReportService2010.asmx URL in a browser, I get the same error.  Note that http://sharepoint is NOT the server I installed SSRS on - this is a web front-end.
Can I assume that I need to install SSRS2012 (SharePoint integrated) on all SharePoint servers in the farm?  Or is this another issue?

You only need to install the Add-on for the additional servers. Have you configured the SSRS Service Application?

  • Reporting Services 2012 in SharePoint 2010 - SQL database edition?

We currently have a SharePoint 2010 farm, running on a SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard database.  On one of the SharePoint 2010 servers, we have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 Enterprise running in SharePoint integrated mode.  (We require Enterprise
    for data-driven subscriptions)
We'd like to upgrade to Reporting Services 2012 for Data Alerts and a few other new features.  However, I noticed something on
this blog stating that the SharePoint 2010 database server edition needs to match the Reporting Services edition. My concern is that I've not seen any official mention of this in Microsoft's documentation, and would like to avoid upgrading to Enterprise
for the SharePoint 2010 database if I can avoid it.
So, what I'd like to run is:
    SharePoint 2010
SharePoint database: SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard
    Reporting Services 2012 Enterprise
Reporting Services database: same as SharePoint database, so SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard
Is this possible?  Or do I need to upgrade the SharePoint database to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise?
Alternatively, could I install a separate database engine just for Reporting Services to host its databases (for example, SQL Server 2012 Enterprise), so I don't have to mess around with upgrading the SP database?

While you don't need to upgrade your SQL 2008 R2 to 2012, you will need to install an instance of SQL 2012 & SSRS 2012. They can be side-by-side and independent of each other. The following blog post provides steps to do so,

  • Getting Prompt for Credentials When Opening InfoPath 2010 Form in Sharepoint 2010

I have a domain user who runs Office 2010 x32 and uses a Sharepoint 2010 site daily. Lately a specific page on that site has been randomly giving prompts for credentials when opening existing documents and creating new ones. The process can be most easily
replicated by opening the new document template in Infopath by going to Documents -> New in the ribbon bar of the SP page. Most of the time the Windows credentials for the user are passed to Infopath/Sharepoint automatically (which is normal), but on the
fourth or fifth attempt to create a new form, the prompt appears. The user can still enter the credentials and open the blank template form, but a prompt should not appear. The user is also the administrator for that page, so I'm thinking it's not a permissions
    issue.
The user is running IE 9 on Windows 7 Pro x64. I have performed the following:
Reset advanced IE settings and all user cache data
Cleared cached Sharepoint credentials in Windows credential manager
Re-applied group policy for the machine using gpupdate /force
Logged in with a clean temporary profile
Logged in to another domain account using the user's Sharepoint credentials
    Cleared Infopath cache
    Re-installed Office 2010 x32
The problem only occurs only on this particular machine. There are no Sharepoint or authentication-related errors or warnings in the application and system event logs. There are also no error messages on-screen when the prompt appears. I also considered
the possibility of this being a performance related issue in the case that maybe Infopath was taking too long to start, causing the credential pass-through process to time out and fall back to a prompt. I ran disk cleanup, deleted some temporary files, and
checked for excessive CPU/memory load. I didn't find any issues and doing these things did not help.
I'm convinced there is another setting somewhere in Windows that is causing this. Interestingly it always happens after four or five attempts, never the first time. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi Titan, this sounds like an IE security setting issue. Things to do:
    1. In Internet options>Security>Local Intranet, make sure "Enable Protected Mode" is not selected.
    2. Under Sites>Advanced, add https://*.sharepoint.com (and make sure "Require server verification..." is not checked).
    3. Under Security>Custom Level, scroll all the way to the bottom and make sure "Automatic logon with current user..." is checked.
