SharePoint 2013 Default Groups removal

Hi Everyone
I would like to know if any harm in breaking inheritance and removing SharePoint 2013 default groups.
Groups like
1) Approvers
2) Designers
3) Translation Managers
4) Restricted Readers
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Prashanth
SharePoint Administrator

Hi Prashanth,
If the default groups have been deleted, then the groups cannot be recovered unless you restore the site from a backup.
The default groups have specific permission levels, so if you do not need that specific permision, then you can delete them.

  • Sharepoint 2013 setup group permissions

    In my SharePoint 2013 test sharepoint site, I would like to know how the users should normally have access to the test sharepoint site. Would the user sign as themselves individually or would they sign on with a group id? Can you tell me and/or point me
    to a url that will show how to setup group permissions and how the users should login?

    There are two suggested ways to assign permissions on SharePoint sites:
        Using SharePoint Groups
        Using Active Directory Groups
    Note: A site can be set up to either inherit permissions from the parent site, or to allow unique permissions to be set for the site. If the site is set up to inherit permissions from the parent site, you will have to Add Users or Active Directory Groups
    to pre-existing SharePoint groups in the parent site.
    Using SharePoint groups:
    Click on “People and Groups”
    Click on “New” from the drop-down menu
    Select “New Group” Under “Choose the permission level group members get on this site:… ”
    Select “Contribute” and click OK.
    Click on “People and Groups”
    Click “New”, from the drop-down menu
    select “Add Users” Type in the netID(s) you wish to add
    Click on “Check Names” (the netID(s) should now be underlined)
    Under “Give permission”, select the group you just created and click OK.
    Note: If site owners want their site to show up automatically in users' "My Links" in "My Site" then those users must be part of a SharePoint group and that group must be defined as the "Members of this Site" group.
    Using Active Directory Groups:
    Click on “Peoples and Groups”
    Click on “New” from the drop-down menu
    select “Add Users” Type in the name of the Active Directory group you wish to add
    Click on Check Names (the group name should now be underlined)
    Under Give Users permissions directly, select “Contribute” &click ok.
    Note: You can specify multiple netID(s) or AD groups by separating the names with a semi-colon(;).
    Below are list of permissions you can use for the site..
    Permission Level
    Description
    Full Control
    This permission level contains all permissions.      Assigned to the
    Site name Owners SharePoint group, by default. This      permission level cannot be customized or deleted.
    Design
    Can create lists and document libraries, edit      pages and apply themes, borders, and style sheets in the Web site. Not assigned      to any SharePoint group, by default.
    Contribute
    Can add, edit, and delete items in existing      lists and document libraries. Assigned to the
    Site name Members SharePoint      group, by default.
    Read
    Read-only access to the Web site. Users and      SharePoint groups with this permission level can view items and pages, open      items, and documents. Assigned to the
    Site name Visitors SharePoint      group, by default.
    Limited Access
    The Limited Access permission level is designed      to be combined with fine-grained permissions to give users access to a specific      list, document library, item, or document,
    without giving them access to      the entire site. However, to access a list or library, for example, a user      must have permission to open the parent Web site and read shared data such
    as the theme and navigation bars of the Web site. The Limited Access permission      level cannot be customized or deleted.
    NOTE You cannot assign this permission level to users or SharePoint      groups. Instead, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 automatically assigns this      permission level to users and SharePoint
    groups when you grant them access      to an object on your site that requires that they have access to a higher      level object on which they do not have permissions. For example, if you grant
    users access to an item in a list and they do not have access to the list      itself, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 automatically grants them Limited      Access on the list, and also the site, if needed.

  • Cannot view InfoPath Form on SHarePoint 2013 since I removed SkyDrive for Business and installed OneDrive For Business

    I removed SkyDrive for Business and installed OneDrive for Business on my laptop. After that, I had problems opening a Word and Excel document in a SharePoint site (SP2013). After installing Service Pack2 from Office2010, this problem is solved.
    But I still have the same problem with InfoPath. Whenever I click an InfoPath form (I have InfoPath 2010 on my laptop),...
    ... I get the error "cannot display web page".
    When I change the URL

    I can open the InfoPath form and read it.
    Any ideas about how to fix this ? I already tried to restore the Office 2010 via Control Panel - Install Programs but without any success...

    Hi Gert,
    As I understand, you can’t open InfoPath form in SharePoint 2013 unless you change the URL without “ms-infopath:ofe|u|”.
    There are some reasons which maybe cause this issue, and you can try to do things below:
    Access CA -> General Application Settings -> Configure InfoPath Form Service -> Check the two options in User Browser-enabled Form Templates.
    Go into the registry by typing regedit from the Run line and rename the SharePoint.OpenDocuments.5 key (ex. SharePoint.OpenDocuments.5.old) under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
    In library settings, click "relink documents to this library".

  • SharePoint 2013 Workflow (SPD 2013) fails for Active Directory Group members

    Hi
    I have a SharePoint 2013 site called "Team Meetings". There are a number of lists and an InfoPath form library.
    The site's SharePoint Group "Team Meeting Members" has two Active Directory groups (All Club Managers and All Club Police) as members. Those two AD groups contain all the people that I want to have  access to the library and list, except for
    a few additional folk who I have made individual members.
    My PROBLEM:
    I  have created a SharePoint 2013 Workflow using SPD 2013 associated with the  Form Library. Workflow is set to start on new or modified item. The first action is to write to history list, then determine the status (Submitted or Pending) of
    the form and go to different Stages depending on that status.
    The workflow works perfectly for any user who has been added directly to the SharePoint group (Team Meetings Members) BUT FAILS at the very first action for anyone who is a member of one of the AD groups. I know the Workflow is fine because I've tested it
    with numerous people who are direct members of the SharePoint Group, but whenever a person who is a member of the AD group tries it the Workflow just fails.
    Here's a print of the info from the Workflow Status page (I don't have access to server logs):
    RequestorId: 4494760f-92ff-2e8c-90d2-cc7df0e6baa4. instance, ActivityExecutor executor, BookmarkManager bookmarkManager) at System.Activities.Runtime.ActivityExecutor.ExecuteActivityWorkItem.ExecuteBody(ActivityExecutor
    Members of the SharePoint Group "Team Meetings Members" have Contribute Access to both the form library and another list that the workflow writes to as well as the Workflow History list (which in SP 2013 uses the credentials of the
    user who started the workflow, unlike 2010 which used System Account).
    All members of the Team Meetings Members group, whether they are individual members or part of one of the AD groups, have no problems opening and saving forms etc. It's just the Workflow that doesn't like them...
    I am stumped. I've spent many hours searching for a reason for this. There are about 200 people in the two AD groups so I really don't want to have to add them all individually - especially when these groups are managed in AD for a whole bunch of other reasons
    and using the AD groups means I'll basically never have to worry about modifying the SharePoint access permissions.
    Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what I can try to fix it?
    Mark

    Hi Lars,
    I'm afraid not so far but we are trying a few things today so I will post back with results.
    First thing we are doing is making the AD Group universal because one of our (external provider) gurus remembers seeing something about that. He also sent me a link to a post where they were talking about earlier
    versions but having similar issues and their solution was to make sure the app pool account has sufficient permissions in AD::
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/27a547da-5cc0-49d7-8056-6eb40b4c3242/failed-to-start-workflow-access-is-denied-exception-from-hresult-0x80070005-eaccessdenied
    This part of that thread looks interesting but we haven't checked it yet as were trying the universal setting first:
    "If the users participating in the workflows have been added to the SharePoint site via Active Directory groups, SharePoint has to update the user’s security token periodically by connecting to
    the domain controller. By default, the token times out every 24 hours. But if the application pool account did not have the right permissions on the domain controller to update the user’s token, user will keep getting the access denied error. The error was
    intermittent because when the user browsed to any page other than the workflow form, the token was getting updated successfully.
    You can try to fix it through granting the application pool account the appropriate permission by adding the account to the group “Windows Authorization Access Group” in Active Directory."
    I'll update when we try these ideas. If you have any luck please do the same.

  • Using SharePoint (2013) groups in SSRS

    We had a report deployed in SharePoint 2007 that identified which SharePoint Group the user was in and used this in a parameter in the report. This used the method suggested in this question: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/c6ce0af7-2467-4ed8-8833-9bad438a28ad/how-to-get-sharepoint-group-in-ssrs?forum=sqlreportingservices
    Following an upgrade to SharePoint 2013, this no longer functions. The error refers to the specific dataset using the query suggested and returns a 'Soap Fault: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error'.
    I would guess that I need to direct the <SoapAction> to look in another location, but I can't see any obvious location to look in.
    Suggestions for the correct location, or other solution, would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to use SharePoint 2013 hosted in Office 365 to power Portal Authentication-type experience.
    Per my knowleadge, configuring SSO helps you to enforce your organization's password policies and account restrictions in both your on-premises directory and your Office 365 directory.

  • AD Groups not being resolved in SharePoint 2013 that use SAML Authentication (ADFS)

    Hi,
    I am wondering to see if we can use AD groups to add to SharePoint groups when using SAML Authentication.
    Details:
    SharePoint Server 2013 - Default Zone with NTLM, extended to extranet zone with SAML authentication only
    I used LDAPCP from codeplex http://ldapcp.codeplex.com/ and am able to resolve the users through email address but not the Active Directory security groups.

  • SharePoint 2013 workflow 'If current user is a member of a group'

    How can I do this please?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You need to install the CodePlex solution(UsefulSPDWorkflowActivities_0.5.0.zip) from the following URL to the get custom activities in the SharePoint Designer.
    http://spdactivities.codeplex.com/
    Once you download, you will have setup instructions file, follow these instructions to install the solution (Installguide.txt).
    I would suggest you to use the SharePoint 2013 style workflow, as we need to implement latest one, may be 2010 style workflows will be removed with the latest version of SharePoint later.  And also other thing, you will not have to depend on the other
    solutions such as CodePlex
    Use the "Call Http Web Service" action and use the REST API to check whether the user is in within group.

  • Security Groups for the alerts in SharePoint 2013?

    By default Microsoft has blocked to add Security Groups for the alerts in SharePoint 2013. It can be enabled but need to change the SharePoint System page setting with the help

    I would wait as this is not a supported workaround (although it does work).

  • [Forum FAQ] How to remove div characters from multiline textbox field in SharePoint 2013

    Scenario:
    Need to avoid the div tags and get data alone from multiline textbox field using JavaScript Client Object Model in SharePoint 2013.
    Solution:
    We can use a regular expression to achieve it.
    The steps in detail as follows:
    1. Insert a Script Editor Web Part into the page.
    2. This is the complete code, add it into the Script Editor Web Part and save.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    ExecuteOrDelayUntilScriptLoaded(retrieveListItems, "sp.js");
    function retrieveListItems() {
    // Create an instance of the current context to return context information
    var clientContext = new SP.ClientContext.get_current();
    //Returns the list with the specified title from the collection
    var oList = clientContext.get_web().get_lists().getByTitle('CustomListName');
    //use CAML to query the top 10 items
    var camlQuery = new SP.CamlQuery();
    //Sets value that specifies the XML schema that defines the list view
    camlQuery.set_viewXml('<View><RowLimit>10</RowLimit></View>');
    //Returns a collection of items from the list based on the specified query
    this.collListItem = oList.getItems(camlQuery);
    clientContext.load(this.collListItem, 'Include(Title,MultipleText)');
    clientContext.executeQueryAsync(Function.createDelegate(this, this.onQuerySucceeded), Function.createDelegate(this, this.onQueryFailed));
    function onQuerySucceeded() {
    //Returns an enumerator to iterate through the collection
    var listItemEnumerator = this.collListItem.getEnumerator();
    //Remove div tag use a regular expression
    var reg1 = new RegExp("<div class=\"ExternalClass[0-9A-F]+\">[^<]*", "");
    var reg2 = new RegExp("</div>$", "");
    //Advances the enumerator to the next element of the collection

  • SharePoint 2013 Active Directory Groups represented as c:0+.w| SID in UserInformation list instead of c:0+.w|Domain\Groupname

    Hi
    We are running on SharePoint Server 2013.When we add AD groups as permissions, we see that the group name is being displayed properly in the permissions. Whereas when I click on the groupname I see the SID with the Sharepoint specific claims characters,
    instead of domain\groupname. I understand that the claims characters are because of claims mode. But I expected domain\groupname instead of SID. Is this the right behaviour.
    When I call SiteData.GetContent web service, I get the SID of the group name instead of the domain\groupname.
    Can someone please clarify?
    Thanks
    Naga

    Hi,
    Yes, the identity claim for an AD group is based on the SID of the group. The claim encoding for an Active Directory group consists of the following sections:

  • SharePoint 2013 Discussion items "visibility" depending on permession for specific groups and users

    Hello,
    I have a blank site in SharePoint 2013 in which i activated `CommunityFeature` and i created a discussion board app which is displayed in a web part.
    Now, i want to be able to change the discussion visibility ... E.g. when i click on new discussion i want to have a people picker that allows me to choose people or groups that are allowed to see and reply for that discussion...
    How can this be made? can anyone help me please?

    Hi,
    The OOTB feature “Audience Targeting” on list item will be capable of your requirement.
    “List or library items can be targeted to appear only to people who are members of a particular group or audience”.
