Sharepoint 2013 Licensing

What are the license requirements for a Sharepoint 2013 4-node cluster?
Microsoft manager to programmer: You start coding. I'll go find out what they want ...

If you're running SharePoint Standard or Enterprise, each server must have the appropriate Server CAL. For end users, each user needs a SharePoint Standard CAL (if running Standard features) or a Standard + Enterprise CAL for Enterprise features.

  • What are Reporting Services SharePoint 2013 licensing requirements?

    Hi All
I have a SharePoint Enterprise 2013 farm of 2 WFE, 2 APP servers.  And an 2012 SQL Enterprise server.
I need Reporting services to be on the farm.
I read all the SharePoint Farm servers running SSRS must have an SQL license, which seems excessive.  I assume it stands as "Additional Software" from the Product Use Document in SQL.  As long as the SQL server is licensed?
What are the licensing options, keeping in mind that there is an SSRS Add-on (which I believe is freely available), and an SSRS instance?
    Cheers

SSRS instances require a SQL Enterprise or BI license, depending on how you want to license it. This license is separate from the SQL Database Engine if not running on the same server.

  • A question about SharePoint 2013 CAL

    Hi all,
I have a question about SharePoint 2013 licensing. We are at the moment using SPS 2010, for 2015 we are going to use SharePoint 2013. We licensed SharePoint 2010 with enterprise CALs and we feel that most of its features are not being used by us. The only
thing that we use is publishing InfoPath forms to form libraries within SharePoint, do we need to have Full enterprise license to use this feature? Or would the standard CAL suffice to do this function. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

InfoPath Forms services is an Enterprise license feature.  Anyone using InfoPath forms will need an Enterprise cal in 2013.

  • What is the best approach to setup intranet and internet sites in SharePoint 2013?

I am planning to setup a internet and intranet website for one of our client.  What is the best approach to setup this kind of environment?
Some of the users (registered users) from the internet should be able to access information in the intranet site.  I have created two web applications for intranet and internet.  Is it the right way to go forward?
    Thanks in advance! :)
    LM

    Hi Laemon,
Creating two separate web applications, one for Internet site and the other for Intranet is the right thing you have done.
    1. To properly plan creation of your web application, site collection and website is of utmost important to ensure you build your site in a professional and most recommended way. Go through this article from Technet that would help you plan your site in
    SharePoint 2013.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263267.aspx
    2. Planning and choosing the right authentication type is also a very important decision. I recommend you to go through the below article if you have not already gone through.
Plan for user authentication methods in SharePoint 2013
    3. Plan for licensing for your SharePoint 2013 Internet Facing Website.
Licensing Internet Sites Built on SharePoint 2013
SharePoint 2013 licensing for Internet facing sites
    4. To grant access to registered users to Intranet site (as you mentioned in question), if you created both web applications in same farm (same domain) then that would be easy to grant access using Site Permission with Windows Authentication enabled for
both web application. If both web applications are created on different domains then If there is a two-way trust in place, and the SharePoint servers have the necessary port access to the remote domain's Domain Controller, then it is automatic. If it is a
one-way trust, then you need to follow these directions:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263460(v=office.12).aspx
If there is no domain trust in place, then you either need to create one, or look at alternative technologies,
    such as ADFS.

  • Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013?

Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013? Is there anyway around this or do I need to make a new box all trial versions to test this out?
    Thanks
    James T.F

    James,
Yes, it is possible , however I wont recommend to do it. Since, once Project trial period expires  you need to uninstall project server which can not be done without uninstalling SharePoint. Unless you are willing to rebuild the farm once your
    testing is completed

  • How many server licenses do I need for SharePoint 2013?

I am new to the concept of CAL. I am reading about it. I found this linkhttp://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/101914/how-many-server-licenses-do-i-need-for-sharepoint-2013
Suppose there are 2 users in the sharepoint farm. As per above link we requires 7/8 server license. So my question is do we requires 7/8 licences per user basis (2*7/8) or we requires 7/8 licences once only then we require 2 more licenses for 2 users (7/8 +2)?

    The second option.
If you have 7 SharePoint servers then you need 7 SharePoint Server Licenses.
If you have two people in your company who can use SharePoint then you need two Client Access Licenses (7 server, 2 CAL).
If you had two hundred thousand users who could then you would need two hundred thousand CALs, but the number of server licenses would not change. (7 server, 200,000 CALs).

  • How to make SharePoint 2013 convert License type in PowerShell?

How create script for passing Product Key for converting farm license type for Sharepoint 2013 like it is describied below:
    http://macslui.blogspot.com/2013/02/sharepoint-2010-convert-license-type.html

All of the methods for licensing are marked internal, so without reflection you wouldn't be able to set the license via PowerShell.

  • Reporting Services in both SharePoint 2013 connected and native mode?

Is it possible to configure Reporting Services (SQL Server 2014) to support both SharePoint 2013 connected mode and local Report Server in native mode on the same server using multiple instances of RS? The reason for this setup is to avoid having to purchase
SharePoint Enterprise CALs for other users than analysts and still be able to publish standard reports to all employees.
Management and analysts -> Custom reports published through SharePoint 2013 Enterprise (SP2013 ECALs and SQL Server 2014 core license). Data alerts and Power View enabled if possible.
All employees -> Standard reports published through Native Mode Report Server (SQL Server 2014 core license). Possible subscriptions.
I find the official documentation a bit lacking in this area but can't find anything stating against the above. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could confirm before planning the installs.
What I'm aiming for is somewhat similar to the "2 Tier Topology" described at: Example
License Topologies and Costs for SQL Server 2014 Self-Service Business Intelligence
With the difference that there is a separate SQL Server 2014 server used both by SharePoint and as a standalone BI-server.
SharePoint EE + SQL Server 2014 EE
    Excel Services
SSRS Add-in (Reporting Services, Power View)
SQL Server DB for SP Content, Configuration and Service Application DB:s
SQL Server 2014 EE - SharePoint + Standalone for BI
    SSRS SharePoint Mode
    SSRS Native Mode
SSAS (Not in SharePoint mode, skipping PowerPivot for now. Would Power View still work?)
SQL Server DB for Data Warehouse
= 1 x SharePoint EE Server Licence, 2 x SQL Server 2014 EE Server Licenses?
    Deployment
Topologies for SQL Server BI Features in SharePoint - Actually gives a good overview in the section "PowerPivot for SharePoint
2013 and Reporting Services Three Server Deployment". Just remove PowerPivot Service from Server 1 and change the Analysis Services in Server 2 to a regular native multidimensional mode. Server 2 would also be used for native Reporting Services.
Fallback or even beneficial option to install SSRS in SharePoint mode on the SQL Server instance used for content and configuration?

    Hi Daniel Wikar,
As per my understanding, you want to install two SQL Server instances on the same server, and configure one of the Reporting Services to SharePoint integrated mode, another to native mode.
According to my knowledge, multiple instances of Reporting Services on the same computer, where one instance runs in SharePoint integrated mode and the other instance runs in native mode is supported. But we must run all report server instances at the same
level. For example, if we are using SQL Server 2014, all report server instances must be SQL Server 2014.
Besides, Analysis Services and Reporting Services can be installed as standalone servers, in scale-out configurations, or as shared service applications in a SharePoint farm. Installing the services in a farm enables BI features that are only available in
SharePoint, including PowerPivot for SharePoint and Power View.

  • Unable to search successfully on Company field in a Contact list - SharePoint 2013 online

When searching for a company in a contact list, I get NO search results when the line items returned should be abundant.
I am using SharePoint 2013 Online with an Office 365 E3 license. I am the global administrator as well as site collection owner.
Since Company is an existing site collection column, I went to its managed property in the SharePoint Administration portal. I went to Search > Manage Search Schema > Managed properties and opened CompanyOWSTEXT in order to click the Searchable checkbox.
All items were grayed out and unable to be edited. The Searchable check box was UNCHECKED.
Why am I unable to edit that property?
How can I ensure that the Company field is crawled and can return search results?

  • Cannot install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on server 2012 R2. IIS configuration error

    Hey Guys,
I'm experiencing a problem which seems to be common considering the number of posts I've found about it, but none of the provided solutions worked for me.
I'm simply trying to install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on a Windows Server Standard 2012 R2.
I've downloaded from the MS Volume Licensing website the "SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1" ISO file :  SW_DVD5_SharePoint_Server_2013w_SP1_64Bit_English_MLF_X19-36118. So
this is the slipstreamed version which is supposed to bring compatibility with 2012 R2.
As I do not have direct access to the Internet I need to perform an offline installation. I also downloaded all prerequisities. When I run prerequisiteinstaller.exe with the necessary arguments, I get the following :
    (Full log file is below)
    I've tried the following :
    - Restarted the server multiple times
    - Manually removing/adding IIS role + restart
    - Running the prerequisiteinstaller.exe from the DVD or from an extracted version
    - Manually installing the prerequisities
    - Installed .Net 3.5 as recommended here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0b597d35-b02d-4236-894d-38efc0c7c6f6/sharepoint-2013-with-sp1-install-on-windows-server-2012-r2?forum=sharepointgeneral)
None of the worked. So I'm stuck and I must completed the installation of this before the end of the week for an important project !
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys for the quick answer! Muche appreciated
I've tried all suggested solutions, but no luck :-(
    - tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2765260 > no help and by the way the hotfix provided is not applicable for 2012 R2.
also tried "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regii -enable -i" and got this :
Microsoft (R) ASP.NET RegIIS version 4.0.30319.33440Administration utility to install and uninstall ASP.NET on the local machine.Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.Start installing ASP.NET (4.0.30319.33440).This option is not supported on this version of the operating system.  Administrators should instead install/uninstall ASP.NET 4.5 with IIS8 using the "Turn Windows Features On/Off" dialog,  the Server Manager management tool, or the dism.exe command line tool.  For more details please see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=216771.Finished installing ASP.NET (4.0.30319.33440).

For the automated install script (http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/DownloadInstall-SharePoint-e6df9eb8) Craig mentions that the script are not yet compatible

  • SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with SP1 on Windows Server 2012??????? What am I missing?

    Hi there,
As per MS - SharePoint 2013 Enterprise SP1 is compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2.
I have Windows Server 2012 R2 installed - now it does not let me install SharePoint 2013 Enterprise (Standard without SP1).
AND SP1 can ONLY be installed AFTER SharePoint 2013 Enterprise is installed.
So how to install SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with SP1 on Windows Server 2012?
    Thanks.

You can download it at the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center:
    https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter/default.aspx
or at the Microsoft Developer Network:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/
Please note that if you do not have access to either, you will have to work with the vendor who sold you SharePoint 2013 to get you a new ISO with SP1, or you will have to find a way to make a slipstreamed version on your own.  I'm really hoping you
have VLSC or MSDN access, as this will make things much easier for you.

  • SharePoint 2013 Installation on Windows Server 2012 R2

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/evalcenter/hh973397.aspx   the version mentioned in blog ,does it included SP1 ? please confirm.
and also I have downloaded the above and trying to install on Windows Server 202 R2 . I m getting application server web server configuration error while running pre requisites. whether it is application feature issue or SP1 ISSUE, not sure..
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2891274  if it is SP1 issue where do I get trial version of SP1.
to be upfront, Microsoft is not clear in documenting all these..very poor.
Please help me with the same.
    Thanks, Ram Ch

    Hi Ram,
Yes, it is a Slipstream version of SharePoint 2013 including SP1.You can download SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 from the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC), and the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN).
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/?FileId=57191#searchTerm=&Languages=en&PageSize=10&PageIndex=0&FileId=57191
For more information, you can have  a look at the SharePoint 2013 SP1 FAQ:

  • SharePoint 2013 Multi-tenant Feature Packs

I have not seen any information in regards to multi-tenancy feature packs for SharePoint 2013. Currently it seems, with the new end user licencing, when you install the Enterprise bits you can license a user for either Standard or Enterprise but not
Foundation. In SharePoint 2010 you could use the Enterprise bits then create defined feature packs to give a site collection Foundation, Standard or Enterprise features. Do updated defined feature packs exist for 2013?
There is mention of them here http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2013mt.aspx
"Feature Packs provide the ability to constrain the Features available for a given tenant. The fundamental capability
isn’t changed in any way here, but of course the Features in the product have. Thus the old Feature Pack definitions for SKUs are no longer valid. A new set of feature pack definitions are required encompassing all of the new Features in SharePoint 2013."
But nothing else anywhere on the net, anyone have any ideas?

    Hi all,
I thought I'd give an update.  I too have worked through official channels and I believe I'm making progress but not a solution unfortunately.  When you run Get-SPFeature, you get 409 different features.  One thing I noticed, was the features
ending with Stapler that Spence didn't add to his foundation features suggests that adding these could be erroneous.  This led me to believe that my ignorance in the above message was bliss and that my idea was not going to fly.  Take for example
    this:
    AutohostedAppLicensing
    AutohostedAppLicensingStapling
So is AutohostedAppLicensingStapling a Standard or Enterprise Feature, or something internal that should not be added as it gives bad results?  What about the others I don't find?
Then I posed the question - what do the ID's with EDU* in them mean?  They don't exist in product info - perhaps it's education specific SKU's?  Does that expose customers to use SharePoint for Internet Sites without the SKU as we assume Enterprise
would be the baseline for all 409 features and we work our way back?
Or even this - MS Access Services is a feature, yet there are 10 Feature ID's associated with it.  With Exchange, there are PS commands that refer to MS Internal only and for O365 use only.  What
if the 209 features Microsoft sent me as a descriptor for onprem cannot correlate to the 409 Get-SPFeature ID's I have in my bag that render my farm useless?
I've also done research around the net and it looks like everyone went the inefficient, non-multitenant way - that is, either do foundation and try to compete with O365, or offer dedicated VM farms for clients with Standard or Enterprise installs and centralise
    the SQL back-end.
Surely noone has done true multitenant... Have they?
Question.  If i provision a client with no -Featurepack ID, do they get nothing or the default which is Enterprise Edition?  I'd presume I will get nothing or an error for not specifying a switch but I would have to build another environment to
test.... which brings me to my last point.  Based on the way Std and Ent can be enabled for on-prem customers on an individual basis and I installed Standard edition on its own VM then enumerated the Get-SPFeature cmdlet, surely I'd see all the features,
not just the standard edition install features.  right?  If not then I'll build it, enumerate the list and my 2013 Feature pack is sorted.
The biggest fear I have on this is going it alone and if I stuff up, having a non-compliant licensing solution for every user on the system and MS banging down my door for noncompliance on something they didn't provide guidance on in the first place.

New 2013 setup.  I created 1 test site.   I'm able to load the site, but If the user clicks on 'Follow', 'Skydrive', or 'Newsfeeds', the user is taken to the personal page that reads:

Any thoughts on this?   troubleshooting tips?

In my case, here is what happened and how I fixed it.
    Situation:
Mysite is a new web application. We have two one-way trusts in place since the domain of the farm is different than the two other domains where users reside. So I ran the
    STSADM.exe -o setproperty -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -pv "Forest1,Domain1\account,password;
    Forest2,Domain2\account,password"
    -url https://mysitesURL
This allowed the user policy of the new Mysites web application to search through the two domains where AD users reside. Once I added them I was good, no more errors.
One thing to note, I have two web apps using the same wildcard cert and running off port 443 SSL.
I wanted to make the user picture come from AD so I changed that user property (Picture) in User Profile Service options, and this seems to have broken initial MySite creation, but once the user adds a picture
to their profile settings, the site starts working. I need to remove the property I added for "Picture" in user profile properties.
This is the process I took that caused my problem:

  • Opening/Saving documents from SharePoint 2013 in Firefox/Chrome bypasses Check Out and Check In

My clients have an Office365 installation with SharePoint 2013.
When I navigate to the site in IE and click on a checked-in document, it opens in Microsoft Word with a message
Server document  To modify this document you must check it out
with a Check Out button alongside.
However, if I navigate with Firefox or Chrome and click on the same link, it just downloads the document to the browser's default download location.  If I then open the document in Word, there is no
Server document warning and it is entirely writeable and it's also lost its link to the document library.
Is the work-around for this that one cannot use Firefox or Chrome with SharePoint, or is there some setting in these browsers that will bypass the download and load the document directly into Word?
    Thanks
    Edward

Does anyone have a better fix for this?  We are attempting to launch support for a second browser - Chrome - but because of the issue with Office 2010 on the clients, the protocol handler from Chrome fails to connect the requested document directly
to the MS Office app, but rather downloads the file.  IE Tab is not an option because it then defeats the purpose of having Chrome altogether since it simply uses IE8's engine.  IE8's performance with large lists on SharePoint 2013 as well as the
HTML5-based functionality is simply dreadful which is the primary driver for an alternative browser.
We are aware installing Office 2013 on a machine fixes it, but that is not an option due to the current licensing.
Hope for Chrome 31?  Firefox seems to work fine in our testing, but the organization wants to go Chrome instead of FF.
