Sharepoint 2013 only supports SSRS 2008 or 2008 R2?

I have Installed SQL Server 2012 and then Installed sharepoint 2013.
When I go to the central administration under General Application Settings, at the very bottom I can see "SQL Server Reporting Services (2008 and 2008 R2)"
Does that mean it would not support SSRS 2012? I am having issues to get SSRS 2012 integration with SP2013.

So update is, I have removed
Reporting Services - Native
Reporting Services – SharePoint
Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint products.
Management Tools
and
Re-installed all of them on a separate instance for e.g. [NEWINSTANCE]
I can see Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services service" in Sharepoint Central Admin and it
is "started".
Now when I try to "Add a report server to the Integration" Or if I try "Reporting Services Integration", I get following error.
Report Server WMI Provider error: Invalid namespace
The Service URL is http://MYSERVER/ReportServer_NEWINSTANCE
Any Ideas? its been a week I am trying to work this out....
Do I really need Reporting services - Native parallel to Reporting Service - Sharepoint? if not then how would I configure Reporting Services - Sharepoint to get the Service URL etc?

  • Upgrade SharePoint 2007 SSRS integrated mode to SharePoint 2013 Reporting Service (SSRS-2014)

    Hi
We are upgrading a SP-2007 site with SSRS integrated reports to SP-2013 and SSRS-2014. As there are many changes done in SP-2013, I would like to know if any of the existing SP-2007 reporting service database need to upgraded to SP-2013 or just upgrading
the SP-2007 content database to SP-2013 and creating a new Reporting Service application will be working fine?
    Thanks,
    Pat

You'll want to do a few things:
Export the encryption key from the SSRS Configuration application in SharePoint 2007.
Migrate the content database from SharePoint 2007 SP2+ to SharePoint 2010, to finally SharePoint 2013.
    Install SSRS 2012 SP1+ on SharePoint 2013.
Migrate the SSRS databases to the SharePoint 2013 SQL Server.
Create a new SSRS Service Application in SharePoint 2013 using the same named databases on the new SQL Server.
Import the encryption key to the SSRS SA.

  • SharePoint 2013 OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 vs Windows Server 2012 Standard

    Hi Team,
We are thinking on upgrading from SharePoint 2010 to SP 2013 soon. I have been researching about the server OS I should install as host, and it seems that SharePoint 2013 is fully compatible by now with both Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard + SP1 and
Windows Server 2012 Standard. In my opinion we should go with server 2012, but Windows server 2008 is the norm here at our organization and our Infrastructure team seems reluctant to upgrade servers to 2012 yet.
My question is, what SharePoint or Windows 2012 features will we miss if we decide to stay on Windows 2008?  What are the perks (selling points) of going with 2012 over 2008? (besides the obvious Microsoft support range extension).
    Thanks!
    -Rob.

If you stay on Windows Server 2008 R2 you will enter the extended/out of support phase sooner, of course. You will miss out on IIS improvements, although in practical terms it may not mean much.
There are extra patches required for a 2008 R2 deployment that are not needed on 2012 for SharePoint 2013. But other than that, I think the other big issue is that mostly in the community, you'll find people running Server 2012 which means issues are better
'known' by the community, versus 2008 R2 in combination with SharePoint 2013.

  • Installing Powerpivot for Sharepoint 2013 with SQL Server 2008 R2

  • Using SharePoint (2013) groups in SSRS

We had a report deployed in SharePoint 2007 that identified which SharePoint Group the user was in and used this in a parameter in the report. This used the method suggested in this question: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/c6ce0af7-2467-4ed8-8833-9bad438a28ad/how-to-get-sharepoint-group-in-ssrs?forum=sqlreportingservices
Following an upgrade to SharePoint 2013, this no longer functions. The error refers to the specific dataset using the query suggested and returns a 'Soap Fault: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error'.
I would guess that I need to direct the <SoapAction> to look in another location, but I can't see any obvious location to look in.
Suggestions for the correct location, or other solution, would be helpful.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to use SharePoint 2013 hosted in Office 365 to power Portal Authentication-type experience.
Per my knowleadge, configuring SSO helps you to enforce your organization's password policies and account restrictions in both your on-premises directory and your Office 365 directory.

  • SQL Server 2012 PowerView & PoverPivot in combination with SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
I have been reading articles on the internet about this, and I am little bit confused. I understand this is also changed since in SP2013. Could someone with experience clarify.
    1. It looks like Power View has become a part of Reporting Services and can not be installed without Reporting Services, is this correct? If this is true, then what is this
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35577 If not, why do I see a lot of links referring to PowerView as a part of Reporting Services? for example
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/615462/Configure-Power-View-Reporting-Services-Features-o
    2. Do I need Analysis Services in order to use PowerView, is other words is Analysis Services a requirement?
    3. Where do I run the SQL Server 2012 Setup? I was assuming that I need to run it on SharePoint in order to add and register dll's on the SP servers, they are needed in order to create Service Applications (PowerView & PoverPivot). However in pictures
    on the
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/615462/Configure-Power-View-Reporting-Services-Features-o link I see they are adding features to SQL instance. So do we run it on SharePoint or SQL server? If we run it on SharePoint server, what to do with instance name?
If on SQL server, how will SharePoint server get dll's in order to create Service Applications?
    4. Can SQL 2008 be used for PowerView & PoverPivot configuration databases? I mean a scenario when SharePoint has 2012 versions of PowerView & PoverPivot DLLs (i.e. PowerView & PoverPivot Service Applications created
with SQL2012 version), but  configuration databases itself for these applications are in SQL 2008? I know that such a scenario was supported with SSRS on SP2010(you could simply run the SQL2012 setup on SP server and add SQL2012 SSRS, later when you configure
SSRS in SharePoint mode SQL 2008 database could be used as a SSRS configuration database)...
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Part of the confusion comes from the fact that there are several versions of powerview: powerview for SharePoint and PowerView for Excel. But yes, for SharePoint integration it's part of SSRS. (If you're not talking about SharePoint, then you can create
and use PowerView in Excel. No SSRS or SharePoint required. But, the link you provided is for PowerPivot for SharePoint. This provides additional functionality for folks that want to surface PowerPivot workbooks in SharePoint. (which is different than PowerView).
(PowerPivot = tabular data mode in excel = the ability to create pivottables/charts with millions of rows of data in Excel with jaw dropping performance (sorry for the advertising speak, but in my experience, it's true).  PowerView = the ability to create
dashboards / eye candy / other neat visualizations like maps for data that is stored in a tabular data model (PowerPivot or SSAS in tabular mode)).
    2. No. PowerView was originally designed to use "tabular data models" as their source of data. There are two ways to create a tabular data model: An SSAS instance in tabular mode, or an Excel Workbook with a powerPivot data model (PowerPivot is the excel
version of the tabular data model). So, if you have a workbook that has data loaded in through PowerPivot, you can create a PowerView report in that workbook and surface it with excel services, with no SSAS needed.
    3. On a SharePoint box. The only way to install SSRS in SharePoint integrated mode is to install SSRS on a SharePoint WFE. (The databases they use will go on the SQL box, but the bits for SSRS go on the SharePoint box)
    4. According to the following doc, SharePoint 2013 only supports SSRS 2012 SP1 (which means only SQL 2012):

  • Sharepoint 2013 SSRS Interaction with Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services connecting to Sql Server 2008 R2 database

    Hi
I'm working on upgrading sharepoint 2010 to sharepoint 2013 with sql server 2008 r2. I've ran into some problems but have been able to get a test farm upgraded. However to run SSRS 2013 it seems Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services are required. Upgrading
to a full sql server 2012 database isn't an option. I know that sql server 2012 reporting services can use sql server 2008 r2 as a catalog and content database so I was wondering could this be a workaround? Importantly would I need a separate machine/virtual
machine to host sql server 2012 reporting services? or could it live on the sql server 2008 r2 machine? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks Dan

Remember that SSRS must be deployed on the SharePoint server. Having said that, yes you can install SSRS 2012 SP1 on a server running SQL 2008 R2. And yes, you can use 2008 R2 as your Database Engine server while SSRS 2012 SP1 runs on the SharePoint server.

  • SharePoint 2013 with SSRS 2008R2

Can I use SharePoint 2013 to display reports from SQL Server 2008 R2 reporting services?
I could not find this combination in the Supported Combinations of SharePoint and Reporting Services Server and Add-in (SQL Server 2012)  (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492257(v=sql.110).aspx)
Are there any workarounds to this in case its not possible to use it.
Thanks in advance for your help!

As you know from the link it is not a supported combination within SharePoint.
There is nothing to stop you redirecting users to the native ssrs report url if you want/need to stay with SQL2008R2.
The report definition used by SQL Server 2008 R2/2012 and 2014 all support the same rdl schema(s).

No choice we have to migrate to SQL Server 2012. The SQL Server 2012 SP1 version of the add-in and report server, add support for SharePoint Server 2013
QL Server 2008 R2 is server + Cal or Processor bases

SQL Server 2012 doesn’t cost more than SQL Server 2008 R2 but we have to admit that it contains a high number of significant new features. For the same price we can have a lot of more features in SQL and SharePoint! So if you want to use BI for SharePoint

  • SharePoint 2013 and SSRS

    Hi,
We have ssrs reports in SharePoint 2013. Once ssrs reports deployed to sharepoint, will they run at sharepoint side or ssrs side, when the user retrieves specific data using filters.
We are having performance issues, trying to trouble them.
    Performance issues
    -Getting connection time out issues
-Reports are taking long time, once they deployed to SharePoint.
How to figure out the SSRS server, which is in sharepoint 2013?
Any replies will be highly appreciated.
    Cheers, R.
