SharePoint 2013 Open with Explorer View Requirement of Permissions for copy / paste

Hi,
I have a scenario, where I have a document library and it resides in the top level site of the site collection. I have another document library in one of the subsites.  What I am trying to do is:
Use Explorer View in the top-level site's document library to copy / paste into Explorer View of the document library in the subsite.
I can't seem to do it. Does it require owner permissions to do so?
Can anyone list the limitations of using explorer view for copy/paste?
techie

Hi,
SharePoint maintain the same access restriction in windows explorer view as it is in web UI. That means if user has contributor permission the he/she will be able to contribute in windows explorer view as well. By default windows explorer view is available
to every users in SharePoint.
Are you getting error message while opening windows explorer view for any document library? Windows explorer view only works in Internet Explorer currently other browsers doesn't support Windows Explorer view.
Here are couple of article on troubleshooting windows explorer view:

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got “Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer” error.
Did you enable the both authentication (Windows and FBA) on default zone.
As far as I remember when FBA is enabled on the same zone when Windows is used, it breaks whole client integration.
So it will be better if you will recheck your architecture and will use different zones for Windows and FBA.
There is also another thing to try: use claims based authentication with authentication provider which will work both with Windows and FBA.
What’s more, you can also check with below steps.
Use compatibility mode to check whether it works.
    Open IE->Tools->Compatibility View Settings
Add the site into Trusted sites to check whether it works..
Open the IE->Internet Options->Security->Sites->add the site into the Websites, then check whether it works.
In addition, you can also try to enable Basic authentication on the client computer, by setting the BasicAuthLevel registry entry of the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

  • Requirements for "Open with Explorer" to work

What Roles and Features are required on the WFE servers? What ports need to be open? and what are the client requirements for "Open in Explorer" to work in SharePoint 2013.
Please note, this is a loaded question. I ask, because it works on our QA environment, but not on Production, and while I am not entirely keen on implementing it, I have been asked to. From what I have read, it would appear that it should not work at all
in our environment, so I am not sure if I am more concerned that it runs in QA or that it does not run on Production.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi John,
I understand you need to make "Open with Explorer" work in SharePoint 2013.
Please verify the following and test on your SharePoint server:
    1.Desktop Experience feature is installed.
    2.Restart WebClient service.
3.Brower IE 8 or later is in 32-bit.
If not, please refer to the article below and restart your computer, then test the issue again.

  • Problem opening documents from SharePoint (2013) libraries with Office 2010 and 2013 components installed

    Hi
I've been encountering the problem of Office files failing to open from SharePoint 2013 libraries with the prefix of 'ms-excel:ofv|u|' etc. in the url. Following the
helpful questions and answers in the forum, I've identified the likely cause as the fact that my main Office installation is 2010, but I also have installed OneDrive for Business 2013 (which I need in order to sync document libraries with my local drive).
The solution I've seen suggested elsewhere of deactivating the SharePoint integration of Office 2013 components fails for two reasons: there is no way (or at least, I can't find one) of deactivating SharePoint integration probably because, deactivating
SharePoint integration would likely stop the syncing of libraries/folders.
One thing that I have noticed in my case that I've not seen mentioned elsewhere is that if I right-click a document and select 'open in new tab/window' the required
document opens directly in the relevant office package. I don't know if this is a useful observation, but it seems to be new information.
My question is, is there a way I can continue to sync libraries and open Office documents directly in Office 2010? My thoughts are possible changes to registry settings
(which I can do, but don't know enough to find the correct ones myself) or (re)installation of software in some appropriate order to leave the correct settings.
I have 'repaired' my Office 2010 installation without any observed affect on behavior.
    Thanks
    Ray
(I've just seen a suggestion that Office 2010 SP2 may fix this issue. I've requested to test this, but whilst this may fix my problem, rolling it out to
other users may be more problematic. In the meantime, other suggestions of solutions are welcome)

    Hi,
According to your description, it is a good way to do a test about office 2010 SP2, here is an article about this issue- limitations of using the OneDrive for Business sync app with Office 2010 applications , it may help you.

  • Large size file could not copy from "Open with explorer" in SharePoint.

    Hi,
I have uploaded around "120 mb" file in Document Library. I was trying to copy that file from "Open with explorer" to my local system. I am getting "disk Space error".
Should i specify any size at any where in "Central Admin".
    Thanks & Regards
    Poomani Sankaran

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
      1. Click Start,
    click Run, type regedit,
    and then click OK.
      2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters
      3. In the right pane, right-click the FileSizeLimitInBytes value,
    and then click Modify.
      (If
FileSizeLimitInBytes does not exist then right-click the blank space in the right pane, click New,     click DWORD
    Value, type FileSizeLimitInBytes,
    and then click OK)
      4. Click on Decimal,
and type 4294967295 and click OK. Note The
default value for the file size limit is     50000000 bytes.
      5. Quit Registry Editor. Restart the computer.
    CAUSE
This issue occurs because a security change that was introduced in Windows XP SP2 affects the Web Distributed Authoring
and Versioning (WebDAV) redirector. This security change makes sure that an unauthorized server cannot force a client computer into a denial of service attack. If you try to download a file that is larger than 50000000 bytes, the client computer interprets
this download as a denial of service attack. Therefore, the download process stops.
    IMPORTANT
This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might
occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how
to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base

  • SharePoint online - "open in Explorer" - cannot move file to subfolder - access denied.

    Windows 8.1, office 365 64bit.
It is suggested that webdav is not compatible with 64 Bit office.
see "Although I haven’t tested, my understanding is WebDEV doesn’t work for 64-bit Office 2013 edition."  (social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/newthread?category=sharepoint&forum=sharepointgeneral&prof=required)
Can someone confirm this or provide a definitive fix to the problem below?
    Problem:
Using SharePoint online I browse to a Library then click "Open library in Windows Exporer."
Using  internet explorer I can create a file but cannot move that file to a subfolder  -> "Error 0x800700E0 - Access Denied".
The screen grab below shows error returned when attempting to move test9.txt to the CHANGE REQUEST folder.
(On my Windows 7, Office 2010 laptop I can move the file - no error).
I have googled this and completed many suggested fixes (check stay logged-in, add to trusted sites, ensure weblcient service is running, edited registry etc.

    Hi,
I tested the same scenario per your post, and my environment is windows 8.1 with 64-bit Office 2013 installed.
When I accessed the SharePoint Online site library with Open with Explorer for the first time, the same error occurred when moving documents to a subfolder.
Then when I add the site to the trusted site in Internet Explorer(IE), then re-open the site in IE. And then open the library with Open with Explorer, the issue did not occur when moving documents to a subfolder.
Please make sure that the sites are added to the trusted sites in IE.
And please also check if the account has permission to move the files to subfolder in SharePoint library.
    Thanks,

  • "Open with Explorer" no longer works with IE 10 & 11 without 32-bit -- What alternative do we have?

I know that if we open SPS 2010 in IE 10 & IE 11 in 64-bit O/S, "Open with Explorer" no longer works because this function requires 32-bit version of IE.
I give up to find a way to open IE 10 in 32-bit -- I had tried several so-called solutions but none works for me.  So, I'm looking for an alternative: is there an URL that I can put in
Windows Explorer's address bar to open the SharePoint page directly?
    I had tried http://mysps/somefolder/etc/      failed!
I had tried \\mysps\DavWWWRoot            failed again!
So, I would like to hear to those who have succeeded to use "Open with Explorer" with IE 10 or 11 installed in 64-bit O/S.

    Hi Horinius,
According to your description, my understanding is that "Open with Explorer" didn’t work with IE 10 & 11 in SharePoint 2010.
I  commend you use IE 10 or 11 32-bit rather than 64-bit. Then check whether the browser SharePoint add-ons are enabled. If  not, please enable them.
You can check browser add-ons by opening IE->Tools->Programs->Manage add-ons-> check all add-ons related to SharePoint, such as SharePoint OpenDocuments Class. If there is not any add-on related to SharePoint, please repair your Office by clicking
Control Panel->Programs and Features-> select your Office, and right-click it, then select ‘Change’.
Please make sure that webClient service is running on your machine by opening Start->Administrative Tools->Services.

  • Event handler - open with explorer issue

    hi all,
I have developed an event handler (itemadded syncronuos) for a library. i need to populate title field
    public override void ItemAdded(SPItemEventProperties properties)
    base.ItemAdded(properties);
    properties.ListItem["Title"] = "some value"
    properties.ListItem.SystemUpdate();
I have deployed the same feature to 2 environments -> Dev Env, Test Env.
when I copy and paste a pdf file with "Open with explorer" in Dev Env it works fine.
when I do the same in Test Env i can't copy the file and i get this error:
Error 0x80070057: the parameter is incorrect.
I see this in my Event Viewer
The description for Event ID 14901 from source WebClient cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
    Could you help me?
    Thanks.

On your local machine you are as you on the server, are you try it on the test server or browsing the test environment from local machine and doing the copy from local machine.  also i hope your event handler is not firing on all the list, just make
sure. You can try this in a different library..create a fresh library and see what happen without event handler.

  • Issue with "Open with Explorer" feature

    Hello
Since the middle of last week, our users are experiencing some strange issues with the feature "Open with Explorer".
This feature is normally working perfectly, but from time to time, the users are receiving the error message when clicking on the button: "We´re having a problem opening this location in File Explorer. Add this web site to your Trusted Sites list and
    try again.".
In all those computers, the SharePoint site is already in Trusted Sites list or in Local Intranet list. Moreover, just closing Internet Explorer and reopening it fix the issue.
Do you know what could be the reason of such a strange behavior?
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards
    Yann

Make sure you are not running into the following scenario.
    SPS13
"Open with Explorer" random error "We're having a problem opening this location in File Explorer. Add this web site to your Trusted Sites list and try again"
I quote directly from the above blog post but make sure you read the entire blog post.
The cause and the resolution methods are the following:
Cause: There is a missing Root site collection...
    Resolution:
Check and ensure,  that the “Managed Paths”
    are not changed
in the web Application’s page, there is a (root) explicit for
this web application and there is a working Root site collection.

No resolution to the access problem today 4/21/11. Do I reinstall 3.6 & delete 4.0? I understand this access problem is common to 4.0 users.

I did some additional testing through Proxy 4. All web sites and web pages including secure sites that I tried accessing over the past couple of days all appear to work fine with the exception of the forementioned sites. Access to these specific web pages (which I cannot currently access) are part of our day-to-day business requirements, and therefore will prevent me from using Proxy version 4.0 as our production proxy unless I can figure out why these web pages won't load, and how to fix the problem.
As an experiment, I tried to access these web pages through Proxy 4 with Mozilla FireFox and Netscape 7. None of these web browsers (including Internet Explorer) will bring up these web pages when going through Proxy 4. But bypassing the proxy or going through our v3.6 proxy works fine for these web pages everytime, and with all browsers. This leads me to believe that this web page access problem is not a browser specific problem, but something in Proxy 4 isn't processing the request to display the page properly.
As a reference, the web site in question is http://www.sunlife.ca. On the left hand side of the page go to "Sign In" then "Plan Members". Thats where the request hangs through Proxy 4 no matter which browser I use, including Netscape... but works perfectly fine with Proxy v3.6.
Can someone who is running a version 4 Proxy also please try to access the SunLife Members login page and see if it works or fails for you?
    Thanks
