Sharepoint 2013 Public Facing Website With Managed Metadata Navigation on Office365 E3 Trial Online

Warning: I am a complete novice in sharepoint
I have subscribed to office365 online trial Enterprise edition to learn sharepoint
I have created a Public facing Website
Through the site-collection setting -> navigation created a new metadata group named navigation and chose it for global and current menu(I switched on the publishing service)
Under the term Management I added two sub terms(for navigation group) with links to document and home.aspx
The team site immediately showed the global menu with only two options(home and document) as needed
Unfortunately the public facing site did not show any such options and instead showed a different menu(default one)
I tried to add the navigation snippet to the master page and it showed the same default menu.
The public site has no navigation option in Site setting either
QUESTION: How can I get managed navigation in public facing site? Is it possible or it is not allowed?

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to use the Managed Metadata Navigation in Public Website.
Per my experience, we could not use the managed metadata navigation in public website, it is only available for the internal site collections.
For more information:
http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154/t/166500.aspx
You can refer to the following article to know the public website and internal site collections on Office 365.
http://blogs.sharepoint911.com/blogs/jennifer/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=76
As this is the forum for the SharePoint server, , I’m not sure whether it supported managed metadata navigation now.
I recommend you can post your question to the forum for SharePoint Online:
http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154.aspx.
More experts will assist you, then you will get more information relation to SharePoint Online.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • SharePoint 2013 public facing site - need to mask url in search results

    Hi, we have sp2013 public facing site. Can we mask the display url in search results? Actually we are pointing two urls(ex: A & B) to same web application. Search results are already crawled based on A URL, so when people search in  browsing 'B'
    URL search results is giving URL with 'A' site. Please let me know if anyone have possible solution.
    Can we have more than one url for internet zone in AAM? i browsed in blogs most of them say it is not possible.

  • SharePoint 2013 public facing site doesn't not allow to view lists

    All,
    I have couple of questions regarding Sp2013 internet facing site. I am using Windows Azure environment with my own AD, DNS, WFE and of course SQL. please visit http://sharepointpath.com to see what i am trying to achieve.
    My questions are as below:
    1) I am unable to access any of the lists for blog and team sites, when I click on any of the links it prompts for authentication. Web application is allowed anonymous access with "Entire site" not just lists and libraries.
    2) blog site and team site doesn't inhering master page from parent. I have changed master page setting to inherit on all sub sites, but doesn't appears to be working as expected.
    3) I am unable to access site using "www" CNAMe www.sharepoinpath.com
    Any help on this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    In addition to allowing the anonymous authentication method for the web application you also need to set the anonymous policy and enable anonymous access in the site.
    Cloudshare has a good write-up about this. See How to Enable Anonymous Access to a SharePoint 2013 Site!

  • Remove Render Blocking From Office 365 Public Facing Website

    Please does anyone know how to solve this?
    Im trying to optimise my office 365 public facing website with search engines such as Google. Google has found a number of errors on all my pages, one being this Remove Render Blocking from Javascript & Optimise CSS Delivery. What does this mean and
    how do i fix this? Must be someone out there that knows surely.
    The notes Google left where: None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following
    resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
    Thanks

    I feel like I'm losing my mind! Here is a  Fortune 500 company web site using Sharepoint public facing: http://www.constellation.com/pages/default.aspx.
    Just vaildated it; it contains 93 errors!! Another has a slow-moving Flash component that cannot be controlled by the user and looks like it was built in 1995 at best: http://www.viacom.com/Pages/default.aspx . It contains 59 errors.
    What is going on here? The combination of "Cloud" computing and mobile devices is destroying web design! We are regressing!

  • SharePoint Online Public Facing Website Issues/Limitations

    Hi,
    We would like to use SharePoint Online for a public facing website (we are using the intranet side already which works well) but have noticed a lot of issues trying to get it to work the way we want to. I have seen on the web that there are quite a few limitations
    from various blogs/forums with suggested work-arounds but none of them have worked thus far.
    Basically I need to make a call on whether or not SP Online will be able to meet the requirements or if we'll have to look at an alternative solution.
    E.g. 1) Document Libraries
    1.1) I've created a document library and exposed it through an app part on a public page. This seems to work fine for the most part when using PDF files but any Word/Excel documents want to open in OWA or, if forced, in the client application which then
    starts prompting for credentials. The requirement here is to have various documents available to the public to download and fill in. Is it possible to force all files within a document library, when clicked, to prompt to download/save the file?
    1.2) When clicking on the name of the document library that is displayed in the app part, it wants to open the document library itself which then redirects to the login page. The issue with this is that if a user goes down a level into a folder in the document
    library, they have to use the browser back button to go back up a level. Most users will click on the title though which doesn't lend well to a good user experience. Is there any way to prevent this and have the title link to the page with the app part or
    have some form of folder navigation present?
    E.g. 2) Calendars
    1.1) I have found a "work around" in changing the content type to Event for this to somewhat work but we need a calendar to be filterable by a certain category which doesn't seem possible when adding the calendar app part to a public page. If it
    is possible to display a view selector on the public page, that would suffice but it seems that adding the part to the page limits it to a pre-defined view.
    1.2) I also tried displaying it as a "list" instead of a calendar view but when trying to open a single item to see its contents, we are again redirected to the login screen. Is there any way around this?
    1.3) Using the same list approach at least shows the column titles but when trying to open the filter drop down I get "Cannot show the value of the filter. The field may not be filterable, or the number of items returned exceeds the list view threshold
    enforced by the administrator" which doesn't happen when logged in. Is this also by design or is it fixable somehow?
    1.4) The same issue applies for the title of the calendar whereby clicking on it directs the user to a login screen.
    I've tried numerous attempts at getting the above to work but basically if SP Online public facing websites are not meant to be more than simple content pages/brochure type sites then we'll have to use an alternative solution. If anyone else has encountered
    the same types of issues or figured out workarounds for them, I'd love to hear what they are!
    Kind regards,
    Rick

    Hi  ,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to customize the search result for displaying news pages with query string in your SharePoint Online.
    For  your issue, you can create custom search result template and modify the following code:
    <a href=”_#=ctx.CurrentItem.Path=#_”>
     _#=ctx.CurrentItem.Title=#_
     </a>

  • Is there an avilable Fix for the Managed metadata navigation Bug in sharePoint 2013

    So i would like to know if SharePoint has applied any fix this this Big?

    Hi john,
    For this issue, I can reproduce it in my test team site, I haven’t seen the CU update includes this issue.
    So, I would suggest you to use the workaround, set a friendly url for the subsite in the term store management settings page as described in the blog.

  • Update list item with managed metadata field returns The security validation for this page is invalid

    Using SharePoint 2010 Server
    I'm attempting to programtically update a managed metadata field in a document library. I'm able to do it without issue on all other non-managed metadata fields. When I attempt it on a MM field I get the error message
    "The security validation for this page is invalid. Click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and try your operation again."
    After some digging I realised that this error was being caused because SharePoint was trying to write to the TaxonomyHiddenList list (../sites/mysite/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx)
    When I update a document through the browser with a term (Term01), it shows up in this TaxonomyHiddenList . I can then run my application, apply Term01 to my new document and it works fine. But if I apply Term02 to my new document it gives me the error above.
    Summary
    My app can read the TaxonomyHiddenList fine but it can not perform an operation that would write to it, resulting in not being able to update the MM field.
    Question
    Is there any advice on how I can further debug this issue?

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to update managed metadata field in document library programmatically.
    I have made a simple code demo below to updata managed metadata field in document library, it works like a charm, you can refer to it.
    public static void UpdateMSField()
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://YourSiteURL"))
    using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb())
    //SPList list = web.Lists.TryGetList("Libs_1");
    SPDocumentLibrary lib = (SPDocumentLibrary)web.Lists["Libs_1"];
    // No point in proceeding if we can't find the list
    if (lib != null)
    // add a new item
    // SPListItem item = list.AddItem();
    SPListItem item = lib.GetItemById(1);
    //Console.WriteLine(item.Name);
    // get the current taxonomy session, which wraps up all of the
    // associated TermStore objects for this SPSite object
    TaxonomySession metadataService = new TaxonomySession(site);
    // get the taxonomy field
    TaxonomyField taxField = item.Fields["MMS_1"] as TaxonomyField;
    // get the term store associated with the taxonomy field
    TermStore termStore = metadataService.TermStores[taxField.SspId];
    // get the actual term set associated with the taxonomy field
    TermSet termSet = termStore.GetTermSet(taxField.TermSetId);
    // search for the terms we wish to set the field to
    var terms = termSet.GetTerms("term_1", true, StringMatchOption.ExactMatch, 1, false);
    // if we have found a term populate the field
    if (terms.Count > 0)
    // set the field to the term(s) we have found
    taxField.SetFieldValue(item, terms.First());
    // Update the item
    item.Update();
    Console.WriteLine("success...");

  • Sort key filters in managed metadata navigation settings in Sharepoint 2010

    Hi All,
    We have setup managed metadata navigation on our document libraries in SharePoint 2010. As part of this configuration, we have added content type as one of our key filters. However, we would like the list of content types in the drop down list in the key
    filters section to be sorted alphabetically by name. Not sure how they are sorted by default, presumably by GUID.
    Does anyone know a way to achieve this ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Damien.

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to sort alphabetically by name in the key filters section.
    You can use a JQuery solution. The source code of the page looks like this:
    <div>
    <span>Content Type</span></div>
    <div><span dir="none"><select name="ctl00$DropDownChoice" id="ctl00_DropDownChoice" title="Content Type">
    <option selected="selected" value=""></option>
    <option value="CT1">CT1</option>
    <option value="CT2">CT2</option> </select>
    <br/></span>
    </div>
    So, you can talk to the dropdown with JQuery like:
    $(":select[title=’Content Type’]"). ;

  • Adding Custom Breadcrumb for SharePoint 2013 Custom Master-Page With A Custom Separator.

    Hi All,
    I have successfully converted an HTML file to a SharePoint 2013 Custom Master-Page with relevant style sheets. But when I used within the SharePoint site I could not find the breadcrumb. So I want to know how to do that? For that breadcrumb I need a custom
    separator like an arrow like in the below.
    As you can see the separator is a custom built one. To have this custom separator in my HTML I have used the following code snippet.
    <div class="breadcrumb-desktop">
    <span class="breadcrumb-links"><a href="#">SharePoint Site Home</a></span>
    <span class="breadcrumb-links"><a href="#">Sub Link 01</a></span> Active Page
    </div>
    The styles are as like in the below.
    .breadcrumb-desktop {
    width: 100%;
    font-family: Arial;
    padding: 23px 0 40px;
    float: left;
    font-size: 0.75em;
    line-height: 1.25;
    .breadcrumb-desktop > span.breadcrumb-links:after {
    content: " \203A ";
    white-space: pre;
    I have tried the following code snippet within the SharePoint site as
    <!--MS:<asp:sitemappath runat="server" sitemapproviders="SPSiteMapProvider,SPXmlContentMapProvider" rendercurrentnodeaslink="false" hideinteriorrootnodes="true">-->
    <!--ME:</asp:sitemappath>-->
    But it did not display as I wanted.
    So how am I supposed to insert these to my Custom Master-Page's breadcrumb and style them? Please could someone help me to solve this?
    Thanks and regards,
    Chiranthaka

    Hi Chiranthaka,
    Please use the following code snippet in your html master page.
    <div class="CustomBreadcrumbs">
    You are here:
    <!--SPM:<SharePoint:AjaxDelta id="DeltaPlaceHolderPageTitleInTitleArea" runat="server">-->
    <!--SPM:<asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderTitleBreadcrumb" runat="server">-->
    <!--MS:<asp:sitemappath runat="server" sitemapproviders="SPSiteMapProvider,SPXmlContentMapProvider" rendercurrentnodeaslink="false" hideinteriorrootnodes="true">-->
    <!--ME:</asp:sitemappath>-->
    <!--SPM:</asp:ContentPlaceHolder>-->

    We can also customize a breadcrumb control, then add it in master page.

  • Display an XML file Content as a treeView in a SharePoint 2013 custom form edited with SharePoint Designer 2013

    Hello everyone,
    Within a list form, user has to select a value amongst a huge number of availables options.
    Instead of using something like a dropdown list, which would be very boring to parse, I would like to display possibles values in a treeview.
    To do that, I tried to use an <Sharepoint:SPTreeView bind to a SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource who read data from an XML File.
    <SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource runat="server" DataFile="../../SiteAssets/App_Data/myfile.xml" AutoSave="True" XPath="" ID="myDataXml"></SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource>
    <SharePoint:SPTreeView runat="server" ID="MyTreeView" DataSourceID="myDataXml" />
    But when I try to display the form in my web browser, an error occurs.
    Therefore, my question is : Is it possible to display the content of an Xml file as a treeView in a SharePoint 2013 custom form edited with SharePoint Designer 2013 ?
    If the answer is yes, how ? Which are the required properties for "SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource" tag and "SharePoint:SPTreeView"  tag ?
    What are the requirements to use thoses tags ?
    Regards,
    Florian.
    Ps : I dont have access to the server side of the SharePoint site I am working on.

    Assuming that https://fullsitename is a new URL address did you make sure to update your browser to include it in the Trusted Sites zone?  The message you are quoting is exactly the one you get if you don't have it in Trusted Sites.

    anyone have any idea

    Hi
    Stumbled upon the resolution myself. The Bean Area item needs to be set to Visible=Yes in the property palette for the bean within Forms Builder, and also the implementation class also in the bean's properties must match exactly the package & class name specified in the PJC (my full implementation class string had to be set to oracle.forms.demos.runApplication).
    As this bean has no user interface component, and since the Visible property has to be set to Yes, to avoid having a random square shape for the bean sitting on the form's canvas, I also set the Width and Height properties for the bean to 0.001. This does show a very small dot on the form, but that will be acceptable.
    So in summary there has been a change for PJC / Bean Areas between 6i and 10g Forms, in 6i you could have the Bean Item to be set Visible=No, and the SET_CUSTOM_ PROPERTY built-in would work, however in 10g Forms the Bean Item must be set to Visible=Yes for the SET_CUSTOM_PROPERTY built-in to work.

  • Benefits of using "Managed Metadata Navigation Filter"

    Hello,
    I was interested in understanding the potential benefits of the usage of Managed Metadata Navigation Filter inside a library or list.
    Is there a direct benefit apart from taking advantage of the actual navigation space for filtering, in comparison to just filter this metadata normally through the columns inside a view?
    Any contribute or thought is welcome!
    Ioannis Glaros

    Hi loannis,
    Metadata navigation enables users to dynamically filter and find content in lists and libraries by using a navigation hierarchy tree control to apply different metadata-based filters to the view.
    The Metadata Navigation and Filtering features make it easier to work with very large lists and libraries:
    1.Configurable navigation hierarchies and Key Filters
    2.Automatic index creation
    3.Indexed queries and fallback queries
    For more information, yo can have a look at the blog:

  • Items greyed out after upgrading and migrating to Sharepoint 2013 - Open and Check Out + Manage Document Option

    Hi there,
    Following a migration to SharePoint 2013, the follow options have been disabled (Open and Check out + Manage) (see below). These are critically important functions and make it very hard to make SharePoint a useable interface. Any guidance on how to resolve
    these issues is greatly appreciated. This is not a branded website, and there has been no changes made to the standard interface.
    Kind regards
    Jarrad Koppen

    I'm not sure what the easiest way is either.  First, I would try to create a new site collection with a new library and see if you get the same behavior.  If not, then its something in the upgrade process.  If it does that also would point
    to something being wrong in the way that javascript is being executed.
    If it is happening everywhere I suspect you'll have to start tracing javascript using something like IE developer's toolbar to see why the status on those buttons isn't changing when you select a document.  I'm not sure what else to suggest.
