SharePoint 2013 Published links to Office client applications - Registry key for MySite is missing on client
Hello,
how is the Registry Key HKCU\Software\AppDataLow\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Portal
for "PersonalSiteURL" supposed to be set in SharePoint 2013 / Office 2013?
Or is there another way to tell the Office Clients where to look for the user profile / published links? In SharePoint 2007 there was a button "Set as default MySite" which creates the Registry key as far as I know.
How is Office 2013 supposed to get this Information?
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis
Hi Dennis ,
Thank you for your posting!
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to get the Published links using Office 2013 on client.
Yes, you can get the Published links using Office 2013 on client. For achieving your demand, you need to have the 15.0/Common/Portal registry key setup with a PersonalSiteURL defined . For detailed information,
you can refer to the article and note that everything is 15 instead of 12 now:

Also the comments of the blog is helpful:

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Issues publishing links to Office 2010 applications
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 with SharePoint 2010 installed, Windows 7 64Bit Enterprise clients, Office 2010 x86. It has been in production for close to 2 years. At first, the main function was to archive email with vital documents for projects,
RFPs and legal information. Now, we are moving closer with another department using it straight from Word/Excel and wanting to save from Office applications. I have been working on getting the links published but I have not had much luck.
I got it to work once several months ago when I had to re-build the User profile service and Mysites. Now, getting it to work again is my problem. The links that was published at first only went to me and a couple other people and they were still
there today. This is my problem now: When I use the All Site Users audience to publish a link to either a site or doc library, nothing is pushed. I can create a new audience and test with it and nothing happens. When I go in and clear
out the registry key on my client machine that has the Mysites personal page information in it, reboot the machine and then delete the "SharePoint Sites" folder from my user profile and then publish the link, it works. I cannot publish any
NEW links. If I publish something new, it never shows up in the folder. Also, I have read that Desktop Experience needs to be turned on for this to work. DE is not turned on but yet I can still publish the one link and I can also use the
"Open in Explorer" button in SP with IE11. Also, the Web Client service is running on the client machine if that makes a difference.
Why can I not make more than one link? Do I really need to turn on DE on the server?
David HoodFor a shorter question, why does only the first link that I publish work and none after that?
David Hood
UPDATE: I have re-tested this and it seems that I cannot get a new link to show up in my list unless I either delete the registry keys, restart and then delete the Sharepoint List folder and go back to MySites for it to ask to connect to Office, or Manually
adding another document library through the web browser. When I manually add another library/list to Office via the Connect To Office button, my other links that I published from the server show up. -

SharePoint 2013 + ADFS 3.0 -- Office SSO
Hello
We have installed a SharePoint 2013 SP1 farm with multiple Web Applications (Portal and OneDrive). The users log in on an ADFS server 3.0 in the internal network and externally. This is working fine. Now we have 2 problems:
The user has to sign in to the ADFS server again everytime he opens an Office document externally. We don't have this problem in the internal network because of the Windows Authentification.
The user cannot open the explorer view in a document library externally. He gets the message, that he has to insert the url to the trusted site altough he has already done that. Again internally no problem.
Can anyone help us?ADFS v3 is the only way to use MSFT SAML w/ SharePoint Apps, so yes it is supported.
I don't think Explorer View (WebDAV) will work with SAML. I think that requires Windows Auth, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm trying to republish the content hub but getting mms errors. I checked the coorlation id but make no sense of it. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to republish the content hub.
I recommend to execute the following PowerShell command to add all permissions needed:
Initialize-SPResourceSecurity
In addition, you can create a new managed metadata service application and also a new application pool account to check whether it works.

Hi,
I am currently trying to migrate our SharePoint 2010 environment to SharePoint 2013. The first thing I'm doing is creating a 2013 development environment to verify that this migration goes smoothly. I'm also doing this so that we will have a testing environment
after the upgrade to 2013 is complete.
So here is my question: I have a 3 tier farm including; 1 app server, 1 wfe, and 1 sql server. I have made a copy of our SharePoint 2010 database and installed that on our sql server 2012 sever (This new environment is on 3 completely separate servers from
our 2010 environment). I have also installed the prereqs and configured SharePoint 2013 on the App server and wfe servers, as well as configuring the necessary service applications (I have created a completely new 2013 database where I will migrate my 2010
database content when I'm ready).
I am now at the point where I need to create a new web application on the 2013 app server, where I will be migrating the copied 2010 database. (Also note that we have a 2010 development site called https://[email protected])
When I go to create a new web application in our 2013 dev environment, can I use the same url (https://[email protected]) to create this web app, or will this screw up our current 2010 dev environment?
I'm new to SharePoint migrations, so I apologize if this is a stupid question.
Thanks in advance for any insight you can share on this!
Boe BarlageSo, what you are recommending is that before I create a web application in my new 2013 environment, I need go into my hosts file on my 2013 app server and alter it to point to my 2013 wfe.
Then after I do that, then I can create my new web application on my 2013 app server with the same url as my 2010 testing environment
(https://[email protected]).
Then after that I should be able to access my new sharepoint 2013 environment at the same URL (https://[email protected])?
I must be missing something.
In your first reply, you told me to alter the host file on my 2010 app server and point it to my 2010
wfe (I guess I thought it probably already is). You also told me to alter the host file on my 2013 app server and point it to my 2013 wfe.
so I am confused on after I do this, what url would I access my 2010 test environment, and what url would
I access my 2013 test environment?
I am fine with having my test environment as a different URL until I am totally ready to roll everything over and kill the 2010 site. But I want to make sure that when I migrate my database, none of the site links are broken.
I also want to make sure that if I proceed this way, I want to be sure that I will be able to modify the URL to what my 2010 environment is (without a lot of headaches) when I am ready to kill the 2010 site.
Thanks again for your help, it's much appreciated!

SharePoint 2013 - Unable to open Office documents in Internet Explorer - cannot access file
In SharePoint 2013 some of our users receive an error message when trying to open an Office application from Internet Explorer 11. Other users on the same browser don't have this issue.
Any ideas on how to resolve?HI Greg,IE11 is having some issues with the SharePoint 2013.
http://expertsharepoint.blogspot.de/2014/08/issues-with-sharepoint-2013-and.html
Since
SharePoint 2013 fully support IE 32-bit version above 7, there might be compatibility issue with other browsers. I’d recommend you use IE 8,9,10 32-bit for optimal
Performance.
3.
Make sure the IE (Internet Explorer) Version should be 32-bit and not
a 64-bit

Search SharePoint 2013 On-Prem with Office 365
We're trying to understand federated search in SharePoint 2013, when it comes to Office 365. We have both a SharePoint 2013 on-prem environment, and an Office 365 environment. The 2 are completely separate, and have not been configured to use a hybrid model.
Is it possible to configure a Result Source in either the SharePoint environment or the Office 365 environment to index the other? Reading this
article from Technet, it indicates that you can configure a remote SharePoint farm as a Result Source:
"Remote SharePoint provides
results from the index of a search service in another farm."
But I've read on another
thread on here that this is not possible from O365.
I'm hoping that someone can provide some guidance, or point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
cflbasserYes, you can receive search results from an on-premise SharePoint Server 2013 farm within SharePoint Online.
Hybrid search between SharePoint Server and SharePoint online uses federated search results. Neither the on-premise farm nor SPO crawl the other location, they just send a federated search query over the fence and wait for the results.
You can search in either direction (one-way hybrid search) or both ways (bidirectional hybrid search).
The one-way search can either be SharePoint Server sending search queries to SPO or SPO sending queries to SharePoint Server which also needs a reverse proxy for securely publishing your on-premise farm to SPO.
Bi-directional hybrid search just combines both one-way methods together so either location can receive search results from the other location.
Here are some further resources to help you plan and implement hybrid search:

SharePoint 2013 Canonical Links Adding Port Numbers???
I love the new SEO features of SharePoint 2013. But I am experiencing a major problem with the canonical href that SharePoint 2013 SEO Optimization features automatically renders:
<
link
rel="canonical"
href="http://www.mysite.com:80/"
/>
It is appending the URL with the port number. I haven't been able to figure out a way to either configure this to not use the port number or to remove it all together without removing the rest of the SEO Optimization features.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thank you!!!
RobynHi Robyn,
In Central Admin , Application Mgmt-->Manage Web Applications, link what does the URL show as;
http://www.mysite.com:80 or http://www.mysite.com
Usually when we create web application, the URL section shows port number and for default ports 80 (and 443) we can exclude the port number from the URL during web application creation, so that in Central Admin , Application Mgmt-->Manage Web Applications,
URL will be shown without port number.
If in Central Admin URl is showing with Port number still you can manage through "Alternate Access Mapping" for default zone and take off the port number.

SharePoint 2013 Promoted Links issue
Hi,
I am encountering an issue in which I need some input. This is a SharePoint 2013 environment and the issue is related to Promoted Links. The issue is that after 60 seconds the title on the promoted links disappear. Checking in developer tools, I notice
that the div tag that houses the title information disappears also. I am attaching the images that depict the behavior. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.Hi,
We need more investigation for troubleshooting:
Are you using OOB promoted links app in SharePoint 2013?
Is there customization on the issue app? If so, how did you customize it?

Cannot access SharePoint 2013 publishing site
HI,
I set up a SharePoint 2013 and everything seemed to work fine (setup was basically done using the codeplex autoinstaller script).
But now I detected, that I have an issue with the publishing feature. Regardless of whether I activate this feature on an existing site collection or whether I create a new site collection with the Publishing Portal template, I cannot access the site. Even
not with the site collection administrator account.
I tried to assign the Central-Admin app-pool to the website (found this hint several times), but it doesn't solve the issue.
In the ULS logs, I found the following:

Thanks!!No, I created the sub site from central admin and after creation succeeded was never able to access it - so no custom apps there. This only happens, if I create the site collection with publishing portal template - team site template for example works fine.
I took a look into the IIS log and found the following:

The list that is mentioned in the source-URL (ID starts with C701B918) is the Pages list - I checked this in SharePoint Designer. So it seems that I have no access to the Pages library and that would explain why I can't access the page..
But why do I not have permission? And: how can I fix this? I tried the following powershell script but still no access to the pages library.
PS C:\Users\administrator> $web = get-spweb
http://krom.devnet.local/sites/pub
PS C:\Users\administrator> $account = $web.ensureuser("devnet\administrator")
PS C:\Users\administrator> $role = $web.RoleDefinitions["Contribute"]
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list = $web.lists["Pages"]
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list.breakroleinheritance($true)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $assignment = new-object microsoft.sharepoint.sproleassignment($account)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $assignment.roledefinitionbindings.add($role)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list.roleassignments.add($assignment)
PS C:\Users\administrator> $list.update()
PS C:\Users\administrator> $web.dispose()
I also cannot change permission with SharePoint Designer because it just tries to open the related SharePoint page in browser and exactly is what I'm not allowed to do :-( -
Sharepoint 2013 - Can I use Visual Studio 2012 express edition for web-parts and app parts?
I am new to sharepoint 2013. I want to develop the app and web parts using visual studio 2012 express edition. Can I use vs 2012 express edtion to create app and web parts for sharepoint 2013?
Unfortunately no, check this post:
http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/52338/sharepoint2013-development-with-vs2012-express
To build SharePoint 2013 webparts/apps you will need the 'Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012', which do not come as part of Visual Studio. The tools require Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate, Premium, or Professional.
The tools and prerequisites can be found here:

SharePoint 2013 List & linked Document Set Project Help Needed
I have struggling to find the best solution for a recent project. I'm sure someone will have a better suggestion than what I have come up with.
Project Requests
Project Tracking and Documents
Status and other data
Project Documents
Offsite Syncing for active projects (SkyDrive Pro)
Attempted Scenario
1 List for Project Tracking
1 Document Library for Project Documents (Document Set content type)
I created a workflow to automatically create a new Document Set when an item was added to the list, then create a link to the Document set in a column called Documents. The goal with the document sets is to have them sent to another library (archive) when
the project is marked complete. The reason is so that the user synching offline won't have so many document sets to sync or to browse through (there would easily be a few hundred within a couple of months)
Is there a way to programmatically move the document set to an archive library when the list item status is set to complete? And if the status were to change back to active, to move back to the active library.
Or maybe I am going about this the wrong way entirely? All suggestions are greatly appreciated!Hi,
With Event Receiver, we can capture the ItemUpdated event of item of a list when the value of an item is updated, then perform the Document Set moving accordingly.
Here is a step by step sample on creating a simple Item added event receiver for Custom List in SharePoint 2010:

Here is a thread with code demo about
moving Document Set programmatically:
