Sharepoint Designer 2007 system requirements

I have been asked to take over the Website of our local genealogical society. The site was set up and is maintained using Sharepoint Designer 2007. We don't have any server or such, I have a Windows Vista x64 PC home computer. At the download site to get
SPD 2007 it says system requirements are for XP SP3. Will this product run OK on my computer or should I upgrade to a newer version of Sharepoint Designer before taking over this project?

the version of SharePoint Designer must match the version of SharePoint. For example, you can ONLY use SharePoint Designer 2007 with SharePoint Server 2007 (SharePoint Services 3 if you're using the free version), and you can ONLY use SharePoint Designer
2010 with SharePoint 2010, SPD 2013 with SP 2013.
SPD 2007 should work fine with Vista.

    All,
I'm using SharePoint Designer 2007 and in two of my document libraries when I upload content I get this error:

So - when I open the EditForm.aspx page and attempt to add the proper Document Library Properties - and see that the Edit Document Properties Form is blank no matter what File - I try to add I get this Error:
“The page you have selected does not contain a reference to the correct SharePoint list”
Therefore - since the EditForm.aspx page hasn't been changed in a while - what are some items to look at to remedy this odd problem.

    All,
I fixed this - by Opening the page in Designer - going to Insert -> SharePoint Controls -> List Form then selecting the proper library from the list - then selecting Edit Item Form. I then right mouse clicked the library and selected Properties
-> clicked List Properties then clicked the Supporting Files tab and under the Edit Document Forms Property - selected the item as such - clicked OK - saved everything -> refreshed the browser then all worked!

    Hi All,
We are using SharePoint Designer 2007.When we try to open any page in designer we get following error,
"The Server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet Service Provider or Web server administrator to make sure that the server has the FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Services installed"
If I click on Details button then I get the following message

Anyone experienced anything like this before?
Also when I try to edit sites when browsing on IE and than clicking on "Page" and "Edit in SPD2007" it's always

  • How to set Mandatory Choice field while Creating Custom Task using Sharepoint Designer 2007

    Hi,
I am new to Sharepoint development.I dont know whether i am posting  the question in Correct place.Kindly redirect me to the correct place if i am posting it in wrong place.
I  created a custom task in Sharepoint Designer 2007 using
    Collect Data from User
    Action.
I created a field in the task form which is of choice type and
    unchecked allow blank values
because i  wanted that field to be a mandatory field. When i handled that task ,i was able to complete that task
without selecting that mandatory field. But, I was expecting not to allow me to complete the task without selecting that field. Kindly  tell me how to set the choice field as mandatory.

    Hi,
You are using SharePoint Designer 2007, so I moved the thread to the appropriate forum for MOSS 2007.
    This is by design that
Workflow-generated form (for action Collect data from User) does not perform validation properly on drop-down choices, the workaround is to use JavaScript to perform the field validation.
This thread has the JavaScript code can help you:

You do not need to work on visual studio, you can create page layout form web and sharepoint designer. Page layouts are only available on publishing sites, you can modify page layout using sharepoint designer, add your required html and web part zones.
Check below few links for reference:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg430141(v=office.14).aspx#bk_custompagelayout
    http://www.mssharepointtips.com/tip.asp?id=1125
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/tothesharepoint/archive/2013/04/10/stage-7-upload-page-layouts-and-create-new-pages-in-a-publishing-site.aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg430141(v=office.14).aspx#bk_custompagelayout
Page layouts creation and editing is almost same in MOSS 2007, SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013. If you are creating page layout using web then you can easily modify it using SharePoint designer.

  • SharePoint Designer Workflow 'Failed on Start', SP Logs has WorkflowValidationFailedException, works ok when recycle IIS App Pool and restart

    Hi there,
I know there are a lot of posts about "Failed to Start" errors, but I have yet to see one that describes our problem.
We have workflows built with SharePoint Designer 2007
Normally these workflows start ok and work completely
Occasionally though they will all fail to start, instead showing "Failed on Start (retrying)" in the Workflow Status and the following exception in the SP Logs:
01/16/2015 15:43:27.28 w3wp.exe (0x15D4) 0x1A00 Windows SharePoint Services Workflow Infrastructure 936l High Engine RunWorkflow: System.Workflow.ComponentModel.Compiler.WorkflowValidationFailedException: The workflow failed validation. at System.Workflow.Runtime.WorkflowDefinitionDispenser.ValidateDefinition(Activity root, Boolean isNewType, ITypeProvider typeProvider) at System.Workflow.Runtime.WorkflowDefinitionDispenser.LoadRootActivity(Type workflowType, Boolean createDefinition, Boolean initForRuntime) at System.Workflow.Runtime.WorkflowDefinitionDispenser.GetRootActivity(Type workflowType, Boolean createNew, Boolean initForRuntime) at System.Workflow.Runtime.WorkflowRuntime.InitializeExecutor(Guid instanceId, CreationContext context, WorkflowExecutor executor, WorkflowInstance workflowInstance) at System.Workflow.Runtime.WorkflowRuntime.Load(Guid key, CreationContext con...

What is strange, is that if I recycle the App Pool for the SharePoint site and then restart the workflows, they all work fine for a time. Until the next time they don't =)
The workflows must be configured ok since they do work complete at time, but I wonder if there is something with the memory usage of the app pool or something that is being re-compiled when the App Pool is recycled
The App Pool is set to recycle nightly, and when virtual memory > 1700MB or memory > 1000MB
Is anyone able to shed any light on this problem?? Or what steps I can take to debug the problem further.
    Thanks in advance
    Miguel Clark =)

    Hi Sudip,
    Thanks for the link.
The workflows in question are SharePoint Designer workflows using standard actions, so unsure exactly how to check the 'correlation tokens' and 'DLLs', plus the workflow works fine as soon as I recycle the IIS App Pool, so do not see how these could be the
    problem
As to the 'lodctr' commands, we have tried  these in the past, to no effect. Though may try them again next time the issue comes up just to see if it does the same thing as recycling the app pool.
My big question here is "why would it suddenly work after recycling the app pool??" I feel like it must be something memory related, since recycling the app pool releases the resources used by the IIS worker process.
    Miguel =)

  • How we create workflow using sharepoint designer for first review the documnet than go for approve the document.

    Hi to all
I have team site in site collection under this i have Shared Document library. Now i want to create the workflow for the shared Document library. How i will create workflow using sharepoint designer for first review the documnet than go for approve
    the document.

    Hi ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a workflow which contains review and approval process.
For implemening your requirement, you can create a workflow containing two steps. The first step is used to collect user information and set workflow variables, and the second step is used to verify whether the reviewer approve. If the reviewers complete
approving, a pproval workflow is started. The whole workflow is like :

  • Can't open sharepoint site with sharepoint designer 2010

    Hi there,
We've installed SP Foundation + SP Server 2010 and set up some sites.
when we tried to open it with SP Designer 2010, it fails and gave us some errors.
opening SPD through site actions :
unable to open website. possible causes:
    1. the web server may not have sharepoint server installed
    2. the web server may be temporarily out of service
    3. if you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be incorrect
    4. an error may have occured in the web server
    opening sharepoint site through SPD:
the folder 'http://mysp.domain.com/site/default.aspx' isn't accessible. the folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \.
the thing is ... we have no problem with sharepoint designer 2007.
    any idea?

    Hi p.andrew,
If you want to open the site use SPD, you should enable the Client Integration for the web application at first.
    Here are the steps:
    1.
    Go to this location : “Central administration” > “Security” > “Specify authentication provider”;
    2.
    Select the Web Application which you want to edit use SPD (SharePoint Designer 2010), and click the “Default” below the ‘Zone’;
    3.
    Select the “Yes” radio button
     in the Client Integration section, and click the ‘Save’ Button;
    4.
    Close and re-Open the IE;
    5.
Try to Open the site using SPD.

  • Can we have a loop in SharePoint designer workflows?

I am using Infopath2013 form along SharePoint Designer workflows. The approvers are dynamically selected based on the multiple drop down selection. In certain scenarios, there may be 10 approvers and workflow should flow everyone in sequence with approve/reject
option. If anyone rejects, the workflow stops, else workflow should reach till 10th approver.
I am using Repeating table and I am able to capture all the 10 approvers and put them in a SharePoint list as column value. But in SharePoint Designer, I am not finding way to loop the task for the number of approvers.
Is there way create a loop in SharePoint workflows?
    Thanks!
    Ravi
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
Do you use SharePoint Designer 2007?
Have you tried to use sequence approval workflow with participants in serial order?
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/sharepoint-designer-help/understand-approval-workflows-in-sharepoint-2010-HA101857172.aspx
If you use SharePoint Designer 2013, there is an "loop" operation available you can take a look.

  • Webpart to Webpart workflow based email, Sharepoint Designer

    Hi,
Trying to do: Using a workflow send an email from a document library to an announcement webpart
Situation: I have a sharepoint designer 2007 workflow that sends a reminder email to certain users when an expiry date on a document library is approaching. I would like this workflow to also send the notification email to an announcement webpart,
but I can't get the announcement webpart to receive the email. However, I can get the announcement webpart to receive an email from my exchange email account.
I have tried: Triple checked the email address, changed the security policy to receive emails based on list permissions and from any sender, the list email is
SafetyAnnouncement@xxxxxxx  I have tried sending to this address and [email protected] I doubt the xxxxxxx portion is unique
to our sharepoint. So I also tried sending the email to safetyannouncement@"remote login URL".
Does anyone have any ideas? I am sure I am just missing something simple, or its one of those can't be easily done things.
    Thanks
    David

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to send email via workflow while the assigned to field value changed.
We can create a helper field
which will store the previous value of the Assigned To, then you can compare the current value with previous value of assigned to and send an email accordingly.
I have made a simple workflow demo below, you can refer to it.
I have created a new single line of text type field AssignedPerson in the list, then use the workflow below to achieve your scenario.

  • Create Custom list form and validate fields using sharepoint designer 2010

    Hi All,
I have a requirement to create a custom job application form which will be filled and submitted by anonymous users. I have a an option to create custom user control web part but I wanted to
create it using custom list form using SharePoint designer. My requirement is below
Date of birth (user age should be above 22yrs )
    Email Validation
    Phone validation
Resume attachment (should attach only word documents or PDF)
Qualification (If other is selected then show textbox else hide)
Can above validations be done using SharePoint designer (JavaScript or validation controls)? Or do I have to create custom control web part?
    MercuryMan

    Hello,
I think jquery/javascript can be used to put validations on those fields. Fortunately some of validation can be done via sharepoint itself like: email, phone, age. For Attachment and Qualification fields use jquery/JS.
See below link for column validations:

    Regards,
    Siva

    Hi Siva_SREC,
My environment built for three developers is a 3-tier SharePoint farm. The physical hardware has 32 GB RAM divided as the following virtual machines that all get hosted inside Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V (Datacenter edition)
Active Directory - 2 GB: Used to provide authentication to all joined virtual machines in the farm.
Enterprise Database - 6GB: Used to host all SharePoint databases and TFS database.
3 x SharePoint Farm - 6GB: It depends on how big your project are. For example, if you need each develop to develop SharePoint in particular farm then you should separate 3 farms. Each farm has a SharePoint farm configuration database and relevant database.
If you need multiple developers to develop on the same farm then you need to join another server to the existing farm.
Team Foundation Server - 4GB: Used to store source code and files and for development collaboration
We have remaining 2 GB and it's quite enough for the physical host to run Hyper-V. I've also had a few other machines for specific purpose. For example, I've done building a single WAC farm that provides Office Web App service to SharePoint. I could turn
off one of SharePoint machines when my developer isn't working in order to test OWA. If you are having chances to work on SharePoint 2013 app development project so you would need to have a dedicated machine acting as a Provider that is responsible for providing
web service to the SharePoint. Of course in this case you use provider-hosted app or the combination of SharePoint-hosted app and provider-hosted app. Personally, this machine shouldn't be joined to the AD domain controller. It should be a separate AD because
in real-world scenario, your provider isn't the same AD with client's environment.
In terms of SharePoint topology design, I'd consider configuring 2-tier farm (WFE & App) because in many cases, you would have to deploy your solution in the environment that has many machines separated each other.
At the end of the day, it all depends on your budget and the size of your project. I would say there is no silver bullet on the hardware requirement. For example, the hardware needed for large project is totally different from the one for just SharePoint
    branding task.
    Hope this helps you.

  • SharePoint Designer 2013 -- Workflow Manager is required to create Workflow

    Hi,
Is workflow manager is required to create workflow in SharePoint Designer 2013 for List Workflow. Is there any other alternative for this.
    With Regards,
    Jaskaran Singh Bhatti

SharePoint 2013 supports both 2010 legacy type workflows that run in the OWS timer service on the SharePoint server and 2013 workflows that run on a server running Workflow Manager.  You can still create the same kind of workflows you created in SharePoint
2010 without Workflow Manager.  That would include 2010 List Workflows.  You only need Workflow Manager if you want to create the newer kind of workflows that use Workflow Manager.  All the built-in workflows still use the 2010 legacy workflow
system.  Both types of workflows can be created using SharePoint Designer 2013.

  • SharePoint Server 2013 single server installation licenses and system requirements

We are thinking of setting up a SharePoint Server 2013 for the following features to be accessed by our test team (<100 users)
Our requirements are as follows -
Total user access <100 users(starts with 50 and may be go upto 100)
Mainly Access to TeamSite(Document library), WiKi, BI reports view(SSRS Reports integration)
We have a Visual Studio Ultimate license that covers SQL Server 2012 and Share Point server 2013.
We have also got a Amazon EC2 machine access to create a Xlarge box with Microsoft recommended Cores, Memory, storage for SINGLE INSTALLATION of SharePoint Server 2013 and SQL server database on Windows Server 2012
    My queries are as follows
Are the licenses above sufficient to go ahead with setting up the SP Server? or do i need any other licenses ?
I would like to create local LDAP in amazon without connecting to the company active directory. Would this be possible? We have users from other locations(different countries) providing services to our company and we would like them to access this portal
to share and access docuemnts without any network issue etc..
Are there any known firewall issues with EC2 machines for share point deployment
System requirements for single server installation (with or without BI reports)
Please note this implementation is only for internal use by the test team and is not critical. Not a production implementation.
    Is there any better solution?
    Much appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Vara

MSDN subscription licenses for SharePoint aren't, as far as i know, for use as production devices. This means that whilst you can use it for testing and development you can't use that license for the SharePoint server that you'll all be using.
As such I think you will need to buy a SharePoint 2013 server license. The same goes for SQL, Windows etc.
There is also the question of user licenses, ie. CALs. I don't remember if those come included as part of an MSDN subscription.
    2) Possibly. As long as Amazon can host a domain for you it should be possible.
    3) Pass. Microsoft prefer you to use Azure and most of my training and experience is with that.
    4) High. 4 cores, 24GB of RAM minimum.

You'll either need a 2XLarge or a memory orientated box, in which case you won't have much storage space.
Internal team infrastructure is still important. If you're using it enough to make it worth having then you need it there and running.
Have you considered using Office 365?
