SharePoint Designer 2013 crashes when creating a custom workflow...

I have never had this problem with SPD2010 and the default workflow 2013 templates do not provide the features that I need so creating this workflow using the online UI is not an option.
I have uninstalled SPD2013 two times now and I have tried creating a new list and I still have the problem.   It's critical for my project that we are able to create custom workflows so this is a HUGE blocker for me so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rick

  • Sharepoint Designer always crashes when using the Sharepoint people/group picker in a Workflow

SharePoint designer 2013 (sp1) crashes consistently when doing the following:
    Create workflow
    Create email action
In the email To field select People/Groups from SharePoint site
SharePoint Designer crashed and says "Microsoft SharePoint Designer has stopped working"
This issue has been reported before in SharePoint 2010 on TechNet as a bug in the software, but with no proper resolution.  I am very surprised that it is still an issue in 2013 version (sp1 which was released Feb 2014) and Microsoft have not tried
    to address this.
I have read elsewhere that the fix for this is to only have a single IIS binding for the site being used (ie not have additional alternate access mappings).  However this is not possible for us as we need the additional alternate access mappings.
    Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

One way is as you mentioned try the below link
    http://xblogs.kompas-xnet.si/post/SharePoint-Designer-2013-Crashing-when-using-select-peoplegroups-from-SharePoint-site.aspx
Instead of  setting people picker's Return field as "As String" could you please try setting the return field as Email Address

  • Sharpoint designer 2013 crashes when Workflow People/Group Selection after adding AAM

I have same issue as mention in this post. Sharpoint
designer 2013 Stopping when Workflow People/Group Selection. SharePoint designer crashing after selecting peopicker in workflow. This is happening after adding AAM url.
And also as answer mentioned My website has same thing. like http://<systemname> as
    Default and http:\\mycompany.com as
    intranet.
And aslo I opened in website in designer is http://<systemname> .
It used to work before I adding AAM url. Now it is not working.
    ItsMeSri SP 2013 Foundation

    Hi,
Please check ULS log for more information about error to help narrow down the issue.
If you find error message as "the service '/_vti_bin/spclaimproviderwebservice.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation, The exception message is: This collection already contains an address with scheme http, There can be
at most one address per scheme in this collection.
    http://xblogs.kompas-xnet.si/post/SharePoint-Designer-2013-Crashing-when-using-select-peoplegroups-from-SharePoint-site.aspx
Then the issue might be caused by more than one IIS Site Binding in single web application.
Please firstly remove AAM settings following the steps below:
In IIS manager, remove the added url binding from IIS site for SharePoint web application.
In CA, remove url under AAM settings and execute IISReset. Now you can check if the issue is resolved.
If you need to configure AAM for your web application, please extend web application and set AAM on the extended web application.

  • Switching from text view to visual view in SharePoint Designer 2013 crashes 100% of the time

Whenever I am in SharePoint Designer 2013 and try to switch a workflow from text view to visual view, SharePoint Designer crashes. Text workflows work fine. I have tried any of the solutions that I could find including:
    - Removing KB2837633 and 2768006 (neither were installed)
    - Installing SharePoint Designer 2013 SP1 (KB2817441)
    - Performing a "Repair" on both SharePoint Designer 2013 and Visio 2013
    - Clearing the caches in the AppData directory
    - Setting Visual as the default mode for workflows to open in (so, not exactly switching, but trying to open it directly in the visual view)

  • SharePoint designer 2013 crashes most of the time, when opening sites. Error: The server could not complete the request.

    Hi,
I have few sharepoint 2013 site's, which I am trying to open in sharepoint designer 2013.
After adding the site name in open site and clicking ok, the sharepoint designer crashes.  At times the sites open, but 90% of the time, the sharepoint 2013 designer has crashed. I get the message "The server could not complete the request. For
more specific information, click on the Details button".
When clicking on "Details" button, there is a empty box. The error message never gets closed and have to kill the process.
I have tried doing "IISreset" multiple times, which has not helped.
Has anybody faced this issue? How to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi Venkatzeus,
Firstly, I  need to verify the followings:
1.Whether  this issue occurred on a specify SharePoint 2013 site.
2.Whether  you have extended the problematic site.
Make  sure that your user is a site administrator. If you have extended the problematic site, please add it to AAM.
There are other probable causes for this issue:
1.Anonymous authentication is not configured for the problematic web application in IIS
Fix: Enable Anonymous authentication in IIS
2.Server is running out of memory
Fix: Free up memory on the server

  • Excel 2013 crashes when creating VFP OLE DB Data connection

    Hi all,
I don't know how often the DBF format is used in Office but it seems some demand still exists because Microsoft created 64 bit version of dBase ODBC and OLE DB driver (in Access data engine). Then I don't understand why Microsoft ignores its own FoxPro
DBF data format because FoxPro ODBC driver is not supported already and no 64 bit version of VFP OLE DB driver is planned...
I am testing DBF file import to Excel 2013 (32 bit) but it crashes instantly. I have VFP OLE DB driver (the last version), some small DBF file, and I am trying to read it as external data in Excel.
Steps to reproduce (menu prompts are translated, so some differences may occur):
    Open empty worksheet
Click "Other data sources" on Data ribbon
Select Data Connection Wizard and from the list of available drivers select "Other" and click "Next"
A list of OLE DB providers installed appears, select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro and click "Next >>"
    Excel 2013 crashes...
This process works in Excel 2010 and 2007 so the problem must be in Excel 2013...
The question is how to read DBF data in FoxPro format when there is no older Office version available?

To connect to a Visual FoxPro database or table in Excel
    Open an Excel worksheet.
From the Data menu, point to Import External Data, and click
    Import Data.
In the Select Data Source dialog box, click New Source Data Connection.
In the Data Connection Wizard, select Other/Advanced.
In the Provider tab, select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro.
The Connection tab in the Data Link Properties dialog box appears.
To connect to a Visual FoxPro database or table in Word
    Open a Word document.
From the View menu, point to Toolbars, and click
    Database.
On the Database toolbar, click the Insert Database icon.
In the Database dialog box, click Get Data.
To add a Visual FoxPro database or table folder
On the Connection tab and in the Select or enter a database name box, type path and name of the database or table folder you want.
    -or-
To browse for a Visual FoxPro database or table folder, click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the
Select or enter a database name box to open the Configure Connection dialog box.
Specify a different collating sequence if desired.
To test the connection, click Test Connection. If connection is successful, click
    OK.

    Good morning
I have a very annoying problem with Outlook 2013 that occurs when a user attempts to create a meeting, inviting and external attendee and uses the Scheduling Assistant to help them organise timings. We are running Exchange 2013 CU3 with no other versions

Has anyone experienced this before and if so can you help me fix it please? Is this a bug with Outlook or Exchange? I am going to test the same scenario on a machine running Outlook 2010 to see if the same issue still persists.

Open Outlook with /safe command (Or hold Ctrl key when open Outlook) starts Outlook without the Reading Pane or toolbar customizations. Both native and managed Component Object Model (COM) add-ins are turned off. To narrow down the cause,
you can also try /safe:1 and /safe:3 commands.
/safe:1   Starts Outlook with the Reading Pane off.
/safe:3   Both native and managed Component Object Model (COM) add-ins are turned off.
To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type outlook.exe /safe:1
    and press Enter.
In addition, you can refer to the steps in this article to troubleshoot issue that Outlook does not crash when you start it in safe mode. See the "Step 6: Start Outlook in safe mode" section:

  • Need to use sharepoint designer 2013 or use Infopath 2013 directly

I created a custom list on a test Sharepoint 2013  website. My intent is to edit this custom list in Infopath 2013 so I can make custom modifications to the form. I am trying to determine if there is a point of placing the custom list in SharePoint
Designer 2013 before I place the custom list in Infopath 2013 so I can create a custom form.
when I run the custom list from the test Sharepoint 2013 website, there are a default 'save' and 'cancel' buttons. However when I access the custom list next in sharepoint designer 2013, there are the original 'save' and 'cancel' buttons on the top of the
form and there are the 'save' and 'cancel' buttons at the bottom of the form.
Thus can you tell me if there is a reason to place the custom list in sharepoint designer 2013 and what the reason is? Do I need the default forms of displayform, editform, and updateform?  If so, I only want one set of 'cancel/save' buttons on the
form. Thus can you tell me how to keep only one set of save and cancel buttons to be displayed on the form?
If I do not need SharePoint designer 2013, should I just go head and create the form needed in Infopath 2013?

    Hi Wendy,
Based on you description, my understanding is that you want to custom your list form, and you want to keep only one set of 'cancel/save' buttons on the form.
It is by default that there will be two set of 'cancel/save' buttons on the form after changing Form with SharePoint Designer.
I suggest you custom your list form with InfoPath.
Although it is by default that “Save” and “Cancel” Buttons disappeared after changing Form with InfoPath.
You can Create Submit Button in an InfoPath Form .
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/b/office_365_community_blog/archive/2013/05/21/infopath-save-and-new-button-grid-user-post.aspx
You can Create cancel Button in an InfoPath Form. Adding a button with a rule of closing the form when clicking.

  • Data Source for Current Task not Showing in SharePoint Designer 2013

    Hello,
I am creating a approval workflow in SharePoint Designer 2013. I had completed the workflow only to have the requirement by the client that they wanted to approve the workflow from email. So I thought why not use the Current Task:Form_URN data source field.
But i went to look for it, and it doesnt appear to be in the drop down.
Im on Office 365, and using it for one of my SharePoint Sites. Im new to Office 365. Please help.

    Hi ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use Current Task:Form_URN to let users approve the task in email.
When we use SharePoint 2010 platform to create approval workflow with “Start Approval Process” action, in the approval notification email, there is a button called “Open this Task”with Outlook client. If we click the button, it will call the task and we
can approve or reject the task.
I added a log action into my approval workflow to log Current Task:Form_URN, the value of the log message was the edit form of the current task.
If you want to use it in email, you can do as the followings:
Open your approval workflow with SharePoint 2013 Designer (the platform of the workflow sould be SharePoint 2010 platform).
    Edit the workflow
In the “Start Approval Process” action, click “Approval (*)”.
Click “Change the behavior of a single task”
In the “When a Task is Pending” section, find the action “Email task notification to
Current Task:Assigned To “, and edit it like the screenshot below.
    Publish the workflow

  • Creating a Publishing Page with SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise & SharePoint Designer 2013

How can I create a Publishing Page using my existing Master Page. The purpose of this is that I want to use page layouts within that page. I cannot understand how to do that. I even tried from the SharePoint Designer 2013. Could someone help me to solve
    this matter.
    Thank You,
    Regards,
    Chiranthaka.

Are you having trouble creating a custom page layout, getting it to appear when creating a Publishing Page, or getting it to use your custom Master Page?
    - If you are having trouble creating a page layout take a look at the following article:
    http://sharepoint-works.blogspot.com/2013/08/create-custom-page-layouts-in.html#.U0KQYPnxpaE
    - If you aren't seeing your page layout when creating a custom page check the settings under Page Layout and Site Templates in the Look and Feel
section of the Site Settings page.
    - The master page used by all Publishing Pages is the Site Master Page.  You can change which Master page is used in the Master Page link in the Look and Feel section of the Site Settings page.

  • SharePoint Designer 2013 workflow - creating new items in the list

    Hi,
I need to create a workflow in SharePoint designer 2013. Basically the flow is like that:
There is a Request List where people submit their requests. The requests have status: Submitted and Completed.
Once the status goes to 'Completed" there should be a workflow triggered that creates an entry in another list; VoC list and populate VoC columns. Additionally there should be an email send to the requestor that the request has been processed.
I tried to do that but I failed - what do I do wrong? It keeps telling me that there is an error in workflow.
Could you, please help me? Thank you.
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Jowita

With this command it populated the Voc list. But when I tried to add additional fields, the workflow did not work. Fo example, I've got a column "Requestors Name" in Request List and I would like the same column in Voc List to be automatically
populated with the data from Requestors List. I set Field Requestors name to Value Current item:Requestors name but it did not work :-(
What do you mean by "VoC column is already created in VoC list"?
And one additional question: is it possible for the workflow to automatuically create new columns in the VoC list?
    Hi Jowita,
We could use workflow to populate values in column but not populate new columns, so the column should be created in list manually before workflow.
As I understand now, you need to use workflow to populate at least two columns in another list, and one is person or people type. I captured a screenshot for your reference, pp column is in person or group type in both two lists, please set return
    type as Display name:

  • Display an XML file Content as a treeView in a SharePoint 2013 custom form edited with SharePoint Designer 2013

    Hello everyone,
Within a list form, user has to select a value amongst a huge number of availables options.
Instead of using something like a dropdown list, which would be very boring to parse, I would like to display possibles values in a treeview.
To do that, I tried to use an <Sharepoint:SPTreeView bind to a SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource who read data from an XML File.
    <SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource runat="server" DataFile="../../SiteAssets/App_Data/myfile.xml" AutoSave="True" XPath="" ID="myDataXml"></SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource>
    <SharePoint:SPTreeView runat="server" ID="MyTreeView" DataSourceID="myDataXml" />
But when I try to display the form in my web browser, an error occurs.
Therefore, my question is : Is it possible to display the content of an Xml file as a treeView in a SharePoint 2013 custom form edited with SharePoint Designer 2013 ?
If the answer is yes, how ? Which are the required properties for "SharePoint:SPXmlDataSource" tag and "SharePoint:SPTreeView"  tag ?
What are the requirements to use thoses tags ?
    Regards,
    Florian.
Ps : I dont have access to the server side of the SharePoint site I am working on.

Assuming that https://fullsitename is a new URL address did you make sure to update your browser to include it in the Trusted Sites zone?  The message you are quoting is exactly the one you get if you don't have it in Trusted Sites.

  • Creating Globally Reusable 2013 Workflows on SharePoint Designer 2013

I'd like to create a workflow for a list in an application I downloaded from the Office store. The option I have is to create a globally reusable workflow which I can then use on the applications list. How can I create a globally reusable 2013 workflow,

What I'm trying to do is to create a workflow which I can activate for a site collection so I can attache it to a list in an application I downloaded from Office Store. A reusable workflow such as the one I got from the Reusable Workflow option on the ribbon
