SharePoint Foundation 2010 Search returns no results
Hi,
SharePoint foundation 2010 Search is not showing any results after configuring the step from the below link.
http://wiki.sirkit.ca/2011/04/sharepoint-foundation-2010-search-returns-no-results/
My Server Setup :
SharePoint Foundation 2010
SQL Server 2008 r2
We have created two web application and configured the search service as above mention link.
And we have migrated a site from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010 to one of web application,we assigned search database to the newly migrated content database.
Previously there was Form based Authentication was done on Moss 2007 site and on SP 2010 we are working on Windows authentication.
Database showing crawl is working and showing success results as well in SQL table, Its only Not able to show the results on the page.
Thanks in Advance
Dinesh
Regards, Dinesh Reddy.
Don't look at the databases, it's a bad habit to get into and will lead to confusion.
In search administration are you getting any sucsess messages in the crawl history and is the number of items in your index non-zero?
If so that implies that the crawl process is working and it's the user security that's the issue.
To confirm try searching for a file whilst logged in as the crawl account, that should return results.

Hi,
I have SharePoint Foundation 2010 running on a single server with databases, with a second server in the farm serving as a 2nd app tier. Both server have the exact same versions of SharePoint loaded (according to the Central Admin site).
Whenever I try to run a search from any site in my SharePoint Foundation 2010 installation (in this example I typed "this is my query"), it hangs for 20-30 seconds while the IE status bar says:
Waiting for http://SERVER2010:80/tfs/SITE1/_layouts/searchresults.aspx?k=this%20is%20my%20query&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftfs2010db%2Ftfs%2FSITE1
Then it finally returns a results screen with an error that says: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information."
Checking the SharePoint logs under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS, the relevant entries say the following (items I deem important

Not sure what "resource limit is reached" actually means. This SharePoint installation is running under regular SQL 2008 R2, and the
WSS_Content database is fairly small (10gig). I've reviewed the Search Service, the process account running it, the
WSS_SEARCH index database, and verified that the Content database is using the proper index database. Everything looks like it should be crawling/indexing/working fine. But the WSS_SEARCH
database isn't very large, so I'm not sure if the crawling is actually filling it with anything.
Not sure where to start seriously troubleshooting this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.Hi,
The query ran in tens of seconds. This indicates that at some point a bad plan compiled and stayed in the cache.
It may have gotten there because the statistics were out of date.
A possible way to keep this from happening is to rebuild statistics with full scan more frequently.
Try free the proc cache and see the result.

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - Search service cannot start
Hi,
I'm trying to start the Search Service on SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP2, but I get the following error:
Could not access the Search administration database. A generic error occurred while trying to access the database to obtain the schema version info.
However the search database is well created during the process and I've checked that Shared Memory is enabled for SQL Native Client.
Can you please suggest me on this
ThanksHi
Alemaitre,
If Shared Memory is enabled can you try below article
http://svengillis.blogspot.com/2011/09/could-not-access-search-administration.html
http://blog.arjanfraaij.com/2012/06/could-not-access-search-administration.html
or if this is the problem after installing any SP / CU then make sure you have successfully ran PSConfig on all servers
Let us know your results, thanks

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - Searching for a commentBox web part
Hello!
Im sort of new to Sharepoint and i have been working with it in two weeks now. Im currently an full controll user on the site my company is using and im also using Sharepoint Designer. The site is running on Sharepoint Foundation 2010
I have been digging for sometime after a web part that enables users to leave a message on the home page. I want the same fuction as i get when i create a BlogSite (there you can create posts and comments).
My first thought was to find a Web Part which will allow me to do this, but i was sort of wrong. I found some examples like this: social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/newthread?category=sharepoint&forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
Im still trying to make that work but so far no luck.
So i was wondering if there is a better way to create a function that will allow users to create posts/comments etc?
Thanks for any help!

I would love some help with this issue. I have configured my SharePoint foundation 2010 site to use Claims Based Auth with Certificate authentication method with ADFS 2.0 I have a test account set up with lab.acme.com to use the ACS.
When I log into my site using Windows Auth, everything is great. However when I log in and select my ACS token issuer, I get sent, to the logon page of the ADFS, after selected the ADFS method. My browser prompt me which Certificate identity I want
to use to log in and after 3-5 second
and return me the logon page with error message “Authentication failed”
I base my setup on the technet article
http://blogs.technet.com/b/speschka/archive/2010/07/30/configuring-sharepoint-2010-and-adfs-v2-end-to-end.aspx
I validated than all my certificate are valid and able to retrieve the crl
I got in eventlog id 300
The Federation Service failed to issue a token as a result of an error during processing of the WS-Trust request.

When server 2012 will not allow pre-requisite to run, due to the ASP.NET 3.5 or 4.5, do this:
Run, from admin command prompt:
Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:<drive>:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and SSRS
Hi I have one small problem with Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and SSRS Integrated mode.
We have one installation with frontend and backend server, backend is installed on SSRS server and Kerberos authentication is enabled.
There are no problem to view reports with webparts but when you make one automatic subscription to make Report PDF files in one file share, it makes 5 och 30 files.
I can only find this in log files:
w3wp!library!18!01/26/2015-19:20:33:: i INFO: Skipped creating a dump file for the error InternalCatalogException, because a dump with the identical stack trace (with signature 1778776910) was already created.

Any ideas?Hi Dalibor,
Based on your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when automatically making Report PDF files.
Could you please provide the version of SQL server in your environment?
If you are using SQL server 2012, I recommend to update the SQL server with SP1 and CU7 to see if the issue still occurs.
And please also re-configure the Reporting Service Application and then check the results:

SharePoint Foundation 2010 Calendar Questions
We would like to move our equipment resource calendar from Outlook 2010 Meeting Requests to SharePoint calendars if SharePoint Foundation calendars can add additional functionality.
The problem we have had with the standard Outlook meeting request with the equipment added as a resource is that meetings/appointments only give reminder alerts before the meeting starts. When users have had equipment for long periods of time, sometimes
they forget to return it and it isn't noticed as missing until the next person comes to pick it up a we discover it isn't physically available even through it shows as available in the calendar.
We would like the person reserving equipment to automatically get an additional reminder alert at the end time so they are always reminded to return the equipment.
The only way I can see this done through Outlook is to manually create a second appointment to return equipment at the end of the original meeting. That is not practical and will not get done.
Can equipment return reminders be automated in SharePoint Foundation 2010?Hi ,
Yes, you can create a SharePoint
designer Workflow to send reminder based on the end time. Please refer the below blogs:

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 few questions
Hi, I'm using Sharepoint Foundation 2010, and have some questions:
1. How do I create different columns on folder level, and different columns inside folder. I.E., on folder level I'd like to have two columns: Client (folders in this column), Country, Date of last entry. Inside folder I'd like to have columns: Date,
Contact, Form, Actions.
2. How do I get value of item from subfolder level and use it on folder level. I.E., I'd like on folder level, in the column "Date of last entry", display date of last item added inside folder.
3. I have List of Clients on one site, and I'd like to use it in "Look up" type of item on different site. How do I do that? By now, I can only use lookup item when list to choose from is on the same site.
4. Is it possible to employ autocomplete in Sharepoint Foundation 2010? I.E., when I start to write name of a client already defined in the clients list, after few letters, my input is autocompleted.

How to uninstall Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and remove its databases
Hello,
My company has Sharepoint Foundation 2010 installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2. I want to remove this server from our network. I'd like to know what are the steps to unsintall Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and remove its databases. The databases are located
on a remote machine with SQL Server 2008 R2. I'm wondering if the Sharepoint uninstall process will remove its databases from the remote server or do the databases need to be removed manually. If the databases need to be removed manually, I'd like to know
how to find out the name of the configuration, content, administration, search and user profile application databases that Sharepoint is using.
I appreciate any help that anybody can provide. Thanks!!Uninstall SharePoint via Programs and Features from the SharePoint server. Once that is done, drop/delete the databases from the SQL Server. Uninstalling SharePoint does not remove databases.
Before you uninstall SharePoint, you can run:
Get-SPDatabase | Select Name,Server
That will list all database names and their associated SQL Server/instance.

SharePoint Foundation 2010, hotfix install fail "An error occurred while running detection"
Hi all,
I am having a lot of trouble installing hotfix 2849990 on my server. After running it shows the error "An error occurred while running detection". I tried another hotfix as well but got the same result. I read on the web to do a "repair"
but I cannot seem to access that. I attempting to run the install to get there, I click "Install SharePoint Foundation" a new window begins and I can see a new window open that reads "Please wait while setup prepares the necessarily files"
Very shortly after this opens, it then closes and nothing else happens.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks! Thanks for the quick reply. Here is the Folder I am looking in:

Connecting Power Query to SharePoint Foundation 2010
I'm looking to set up PowerQuery in Excel 2013 to link into the various lists on our SharePoint 2010 Foundation server.
I have established the connection URL.
The SharePoint Foundation 2010 server is on the same LAN I'm connected to, so I've opted for Windows Authentication.
These two aspects of the setup appear to be fine: However at the point when Power Query links to the SharePoint server the following error is being returned.
DataSource.Error: OData: The feed's metadata document appears to be invalid.
Any ideas?Hi,
We have forum for Power Query discussion and feedback. I will move your post to that forum:

The reason why I move your post is to get you the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums

Add Custom CSS to SharePoint Foundation 2010
I have SharePoint Foundation 2010. I am trying to use custom CSS to override the out of the box CSS. I have linked my CSS file within the master page a million different ways but nothing seems to work.
Can this be done in Foundation or do I need to purchase Server?Hi Tory,
How did you add the custom CSS for SharePoint 2010 foundation?
You can upload the CSS file into a library at the SharePoint site collection, then use <SharePoint:CssRegistration name="<% $SPUrl:~SiteCollection/Style Library/Custom/styles.css %>" After="corev4.css" runat="server"/> to include a reference
to your custom CSS file.
In addition, please clear SharePoint cache, and do an IISRESET, then compare the result.
More information, please refer to the links:

Approval workflow in SharePoint foundation 2010
Hello Experts,
I'm using SharePoint foundation 2010. Can someone help me understand the procedure for creating the approval workflow for a doc library using the SharePoint designer 2010. It would be great if you can guide me the step by step procedure for setting up this
workflow.
Thanks.Hi rebel537,
As you described, you are using SharePoint Foundation 2010. There is no “Start approval process” action when you edit SharePoint Foundation 2010 workflow in SharePoint
designer 2010.
I suggest you using “collect data from a user” action instead of “start approval process” action to complete the approval task. There is a demo for your reference.
1.
Open the SPD, navigate to the workflow edit zone. Select “collect data from a user “action.
2.
Click data, in the pop-up window, click next and enter the task name for the approval workflow.
3.
Click next, define the fields for the task, for this demo, there has a field “approval result”.
4.
Then click finish. Back to the workflow edit zone, click user, in the pop-up window, select the user for the task then click finish ,back to the workflow edit zone.
5.
Add a condition (if any value equals value) after the action.
6.
Click the first value, and then click Fx, there goes to a pop-up window, enter as below.
Data source: Association: Task List
Field from source: Approval Result
Field: ID
Value: Variable: collect
7.
Set another value to “Yes”, add the action” set workflow statue”, set it to approval. Add an If-Else branch, set the workflow statue to reject.
8.
Publish the workflow, and use it for the approval purpose.
Thanks,

Features comparison of SharePoint Foundation 2010 & Office 365
Hi,
I there any documentation/chart or table comparison of features between Office 365 and SharePoint Foundation 2010?
I can only search comparison between office 365 and SP Foundation 2013.
Thanks!See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/sharepoint-online-service-description.aspx
Towards the bottom it has the on-prem feature sets, but has all of the online and onprem feature sets listed on this page.
