SharePoint Foundation Server 2010

Can you use SharePoint Foundation Server 2010 for external customer access?
Thank you

Yes.You have to decide how your external users are going to be accessing the site and how they are going to be authenticate external users.

  • Access 2013 and SharePoint Foundation/Server 2010

    I have a real simple scenario that keeps happening.
    I simple click external data -> More -> SharePoint List from Access 2013 and point it to a SharePonint 2010 list ... then link the list.  It will link and show the data.  Once...  After closing the access file, it just freezes when opening
    it again.
    I've tried this on several windows clients (win7 and 8) and 2 different SharePoint 2010 installs (1 being Foundation, the other being Server).  Both are service packed.
    Any ideas?

    I believe i too am running into this issue.
    I have a CRM application i created in Access 2010 which links to lists on Sharepoint Foundation 2010 (As bundled with Small Business Server 2010) using SSL. I have this application running on various client machines, some on the local network and some via
    the internet. Until now we have been entirely Access 2010 and whenever a new client was required i just copied over the Access front end and it just worked.
    We have a new PC which has Win7 Pro 64bit and Office 2013 Pro. I copied over the front end but when i try and open one of the linked sharepoint lists Access just hangs with the spining circle. I have no problem accessing these lists on SP via Internet Explorer
    and furthermore if i select "Open with Access" and link a list it then opens within Access 2013 OK, (although Windows Security does prompt for the users password). However, if i save this database and re-open it i can no longer open the list!!
    I have noticed that if i run Access 2013 as administrator and open the front end application then there is no problem.
    Possible permissions issue???
    If i repeat what Eric describes, Access 2013 shows me all the lists on out SP site and successfully links it (i.e. It appears under Tables) however, unlike Eric the list won't open (not even once).

    Hello,
    We are currently implementing a Devops solution with SCOM 2012 SP1 and TFS 2010 SP1 and we would like to synchronize APM alerts with TFS and the Operational Issue WorkItem. However we are not
    able to sync anything.

    We followed the documentation at :
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj883936.aspx
    to configure SCOM Alert Attachment and Operation Manager Tfs Work Item Synchronization. Everything seems to be ok. All configurations succeed. We did not configure Intellitrace collector.
    The problem occurs when we are trying to push an APM alert to TFS. When we assigned an alert to the Engineering nothing is synchronized in TFS. There is no error in the event viewer on the TFS

    Hi,
    To monitor the complete TFS infrastructure, you need additional monitoring packs that alert you about a wide range of problems with TFS components. When you import the TFS Work Item Synchronization management pack, it is a best practice to
    also import and configure these monitoring packs, you can double check these:

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you got the promote issue when clicked the documents in the library of the SharePoint foundation server.
    The issue may be caused that the Kerberos authentication is misconfigured, you can change to NTLM to check whether it works.

  • Issues with Office Documents in Sharepoint Foundations 2010

    We recently upgraded to Sharepoint Foundations 2010 from Sharepoint V3.0.  When I did the install of Sharepoint Foundations 2010, there was no mention of Office Web Apps in the Technet article.  Now when our users try to open a document from Sharepoint,
    then make changes and try to save back by just clicking on the "Save" button, they get an error stating that the upload failed or that the document is open in "Read Only".  After searching for a month for an answer, I believe I need
    to install Office Web Apps for Sharepoint but have yet to find an article that explains how to do it.  I've found the articles on 2013 but not 2010.  The article on 2013 asks that I do things in the Sharepoint Foundations server but when I follow
    them, the options are not there.  If anyone has any experience adding in the Office Web Apps to Sharepoint, I would sure appreciate some assistance.

  • SharePoint Foundation Site Web Analytics reports

    Hi,
    I am currently attempting to get the Site Web Analytics reports to work in SharePoint Foundation.  However, there seems to be little available information regarding this.  What is necessary for this to display a report?  To start with, what
    SharePoint & Windows services and SharePoint service applications need to be started?  We use SQL Authentication for the content database because all the databases are in a different domain.
    Any information someone can shed would be helpful.
    Currently, when I navigate to the page it states "A web analytics report is not available for this site.  Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the usage data for this site has not been processed yet."  I have looked up this
    information on the net, but nearly all information applies to SharePoint Server.  I need help setting this up with SharePoint Foundation.
    Thank you much.

    Hi Steven,
    Ahhh, I had a feeling that was a problem.
    I had similar issues after installing SP1 so I could have some of the new features, like the storage report back for sites, and deleted sites going into the recycle bin. However, I had read that I *had* to install the June 30 CU as well, which may have been
    a mistake. Because after installing both and running a psconfigui, it made things as flaky as they were during the beta.
    It took my good, stable, trustworthy and solid SPF install and made it unstable. Managed Accounts started acting weird, permissions were odd, BDC service crapped out, user code errors, the works. Bummed me out. I basically blew out the server, did a fresh
    install and restored from a farm backup (actually a full then differential, gotta love scheduling backups). Mind you, I could afford to do that, and I simply don't mess around with bad updates.
    (I also found a post that said that if you have SP1 installed, a common error is if you delete a list, then delete the site, you can restore the site from recycle bin, but the list that was deleted from that site earlier cannot be restored-- so to avoid/fix
    that problem, install the August CU... it's always something...)
    Do you have backups of your farm pre-updates, preferably both, but at least the CU? Maybe you can do a restore on a virtual machine to see if it fixes your issues?
    Also, here's another question. After you installed SP1 and the August CU, did you do a psconfigUI.exe (or at the command line, psconfig.exe)? It might be good and bad that you didn't (if you didn't). The way to check to see if you didn't is check the database
    statuses (review database status under Upgrade and Patch Management in Central Admin). The statuses will say that the databases can be/should be updated if you didn't run psconfig. That means that SharePoint has updated, but the databases in SQL haven't.
    Maybe you can make a copy of those databases, and try to attach those databases to a pre-update (sp1 and CU) SharePoint Foundation server to see if web analytics work there again. Although, if I am understanding correctly, some changes can occur on databases
    during updates, but they're not complete til psconfig is run. But hey, it's worth a shot.
    Or you can use psconfigui.exe (or psconfig.exe if you want to use the command line) to update the databases and see if that fixes the problem.
    I'm sorry again about your issues if they are update related. It is so frustrating to think you are trying to stay up to date on your server, being a good admin, and instead it breaks important things without apology or way to fix it (since cumulative updates
    cannot be uninstalled, but it is really difficult and potentially expensive to have to fully identical farms running side by side for testing).CA Callahan | Author: Mastering Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 and Mastering Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 | Community Launch Leader |

  • Sharepoint Foundation - search working for some users (or computers), but not others

    Hi all,
    We have doozy of a search problem with SharePoint Foundation 2010 that I'm hoping someone can help with.
    We have an application that is listening on port 14197 and search is working just fine, but only for one or two users.
    If I do a search while logged in using the account we set the application up with then the search works fine and it returns records as expected.
    If I use a different account - one that has full control over the app, then the exact same search fails with the following message:
    We did not find any results for 06BSL.
    Suggestions:
    Ensure words are spelled correctly.
    Try using synonyms or related searches.
    Try broadening your search by searching from a different site.
    Additional resources:
    Get additional search tips by visiting Search Help
    If you cannot find a page that you know exists, contact your administrator.
    We've done everything we can think of, including several procedures to create new search accounts, replace databases, etc.
    Nothing has helped and all of the info we can find online is in relation to getting search working when it doesn't work at all.  In our case it is working, but only for some users.  We thought it might have been a permissions issue, but not matter
    what permissions we seem to give to test accounts they still don't work.  We've set up a test account, for example, that is a member of the 'application owners' group, but cannot produce any search results with it.
    The SharePoint Foundation server is running on Windows 2008 Server Foundation, with a separate SBS 2003 DC.
    Any help most appreciated.

    Hi Alex, thanks for your response and apologies about the late reply - didn't realise someone had responded until now!
    Agreed that this looks like a permissions issue, but we're stumped as to what it could be.  The 'test' account displays this problem - if we try and search on 06BSL
    we get no results, but it does appear that this account has full control over this document (see below).
    Note that the 'Manage Permissions' page presents a comment 'This list item inherits permissions from its parent. (Customer QA & Product Management)' which is what we're
    expecting.
    The indexing schedule is set to 5 minutes.
    Appreciate your help with this, as we've spent a huge amount of time on this problem but don't seem to be any closer to a resolution.
    Cheers,
    Damian
    Check permissions result (this result is the same for the list or for the document itself):
    Permission levels given to test (DOMAIN\test)
    Full Control
    Given through the "QA Application Owners" group.
    Design, Contribute, Read
    Given through the "QA Application Members" group.

  • LIKE Operator not supported from CMIS Search on Foundation Server

    I am running a CMIS query against Sharepoint foundation server.
    The app is returning the following error: One or more of the input parameters to the service method is missing or invalid
    The log files report the following:
    CMIS Repository Interfaces    This operator is not supported:   like
    CMIS Repository Interfaces    Exception is thrown of type: Microsoft.SharePoint.CMIS.Data.Exception.InvalidArgumentException
    CMIS Repository Interfaces    Exception thrown in core dll. Microsoft.SharePoint.CMIS.Data.Exception.InvalidArgumentException: One or more of the input parameters to the service method is missing or invalid.
    CMIS Repository Interfaces    Constructing soap exception from  invalidArgument
    Strange thing is the query works against Sharepoint Enterprise server after setting "Reduce storage requirements for text properties by using a hash for comparison”
    Does anyone know if this is a limitation of Foundation Server or something in the CMIS Repository Interfaces
    Thank you.

    I've been testing Sharepoint 2010 CMIS api for a while and pretty much everything worked according to CMIS 1.0 spec except the Query which is unfinished work.
    As Alex already wrote only "=", "<=", ">=" and "<>" operators will work. LIKE and IN do not work for me either. And there are other issues that I found.
    Query does not return all properties defined for specific content type, but you can use them in the query: SELECT * FROM "Fixed Assets" WHERE Vendor_x0020_ID = '134' (Select all from "Fixed Assets" document library that holds
    documents of "Fixed Asset" content type). This query will run fine but will not return any custom properties for the "Fixed Asset" content type. Forcing select fields does not help either.
    Selecting SELECT Vendor_x0020_ID,Vendor_x0020_Name FROM "Fixed Asset"
    returns list of empty objects and properties tags:
    <queryResponse xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/cmis/messaging/200908/">
    <objects>
    <objects>
    <properties xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/cmis/core/200908/"/>
    </objects>
    <objects>
    <properties xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/cmis/core/200908/"/>
    </objects>
    <objects>
    <properties xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/cmis/core/200908/"/>
    </objects>
    Content type id (cmis:objectTypeId) is not queryable type. If your document library contains multiple content types you cannot query by content type. Funny thing is that you can query by ContentTypeId which is Sharepoint property name for content type.
    And, I am sure there is more :)
     My conclusion is that this version Sharepoint CMIS DiscoveryService is just a lousy implementation of SQL to CAML query translation. CAML is a strong query language and I don't see any CMIS SQL expression that cannot be easily converted to CAML. Unfortunately
    with the first version of Sharepoint CMIS producer this is not the case.
    Thanks,
    Boris

  • Project Server 2010 Web services access with Client Certificate Authentication

    We switched our SharePoint/Project Server 2010 farm to use client certificate authentication with Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 2.0, which is working without issue. We have some administrative Project Server Interface (PSI)
    web service applications that no longer connect to server with the new authentication configuration.  Our custom applications are using the WCF interface to access the public web services.
    Please let us know if it is possible to authenticate with AD FS 2.0 and then call
    Project Server web services. Any help or coding examples would be greatly appreciated.

    what is the error occurred when the custom PSI app connects?
    can you upload the ULS logs here for research?
    What is the user account format you specified in the code for authentication?
    For proper authorization, the “user logon account” in PWA for the user needs to be changed from domain\username to the claims token (e.g.
    'I:0#.w|mybusinessdomain\ewmccarty').
    It requires you to manually call the UpnLogon method of
    “Claims to Windows Token Service”. if (Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity is ClaimsIdentity)
    {  var identity = (ClaimsIdentity)Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity;  }
    if (Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity is ClaimsIdentity)
    var identity = (ClaimsIdentity)Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity;
    Than you need to extract UPN-Claim from the identity.
    Upload the verbose log if possible.

  • Team Foundation Server 2013 trace doesn't work

    I'm trying to turn on tracing on my TFS 2013 instance. To do this I'm modifying C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation
    Server 12.0\Application Tier\Web Services\web.config file like this:
    <appSettings>
    <add key="traceWriter" value="true" />
    <add key="traceDirectoryName" value="%TEMP%\\TFLogFiles" />
    </appSettings>
    <system.diagnostics>
    <assert assertuienabled="false" />
    <trace autoflush="false" indentsize="4" />
    <switches>
    <add name="API" value="4" />
    <add name="Authentication" value="4" />
    <add name="Authorization" value="4" />
    <add name="Database" value="4" />
    <add name="General" value="4" />
    <!-- WorkItem trace switches -->
    <add name="traceLevel" value="4" />
    </switches>
    </system.diagnostics>
    After these manipulations log files appear but they are not verbose at all. I tried the same step with 2 different TFS
    2013 deployments and got no results. I also tried this technique with TFS 2010 and it works.
    Has anybody tried this feature with TFS 2013 or has precise  instructions how to turn off detailed tracing on TFS 2013 (I found the only good article for
    outdated TFS 2010: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bryang/archive/2011/11/14/tracing-in-team-foundation-server-2010.aspx)

    Hi Shkleinik & Kevin,
    TFS 2013 includes low-level tracing for diagnosing complex server problems. You can refer to the page below for tracing configuration for TFS 2013, chekc if it works.

    If it doesn't work and you want to report to MS, then you can submit it to Microsoft Connect Feedback portal at:
    https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio. Microsoft engineers will evaluate it seriously.

  • Team Foundation Server 2013 Refresh button not refreshing Custom Control values in TFS Templates

    Hi all,
    We have recently migrated from Team Foundation Server 2010 to Team Foundation Server 2013 Update 2. In TFS 2013 template design we found the refresh form control (inbuilt control of TFS) which is unable to refresh the custom control values that is built

    Hi SaranRam,
    The refresh button is there to allow the data that populated the work item to be refreshed. The data that you want refreshed is part of the rendering of the form and would only be refreshed when the browser refreshes. Refer to MrHinsh's reply in this

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Optimization For Large File Transfer?

    We are considering upgrading from  WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2013.
    One of the improvements we want to see after the upgrade is a better user experience when downloading large files.  It can be done now, but it is not reliable.
    Our document library consists of mostly average sized Office documents, but it also includes some audio and video files and software installer package zip files ranging from 100MB to 2GB in size.
    I know we can change the settings to "allow" larger than default file downloads but how do we optimize the server setup to make these large file transfers work as seamlessly as possible? More RAM on the SharePoint Foundation server? Other Windows,
    SharePoint or IIS optimizations?  The files will often be downloaded from the Internet, so we will not have control over the download speed.

    SharePoint is capable of sending large files, it is an HTTP stateless system like any other website in that regard. Given your server is sized appropriately for the amount of concurrent traffic you expect, I don't see any special optimizations required.
    Trevor Seward
    Follow or contact me at...
    This post is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or view of Microsoft, its employees, or other MVPs.
    I see information like this posted warning against doing it as if large files are going to cause your SharePoint server and SQL to crash.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/praveenh/archive/2012/11/16/issues-with-uploading-large-documents-on-document-library-wss-3-0-amp-moss-2007.aspx
    "Though SharePoint is meant to handle files that are up to 2 gigs in size, it is not practically feasible and not recommended as well."
    "Not practically feasible" sounds like a pretty dire warning to stay away from large files.
    I had seen some other links warning that large file in the SharePoint database causes problems with fragmentation and large amounts of wasted space that doesn't go away when files are removed or that the server may run out of memory because downloaded
    files are held in RAM.

  • Adding a new account in Team Foundation Server

    I have a problem with adding of new accounts into Team Foundation Server 2010. I can add a new domain account into group Contributors of my team project without problems but after that I can't see it in the list of available accounts, for example, in the
    drop down list 'Assigned To' at a work item page.
    The added user can see the project, do check-in and check-out but he can't get access to the project work items. He has got an error
    TF201072: A user or group could not be found. Verify that the users and groups used in your work item type definition have been added to Team Foundation Server.
    Can anybody help me?

    Hi Jovanny66,
    Thanks for your reply.
    We don’t recommend to edit the TFS database(s) directly, it may cause the unknown issues.
    To edit data in TFS Server, we should edit the data through VS, Web Access, TF command or TFS API. Unless there’s an official SQL Server script to edit TFS data which provided by MS.
    As you edited the dbo.Constants table to update user’s data, but the user’s data also included in other
    TFS tables too, there’s the key connection relationships between these tables, if we update this user’s data in Web Access, TFS Sever will update this user’s data in all the related tables automatically. But you manually edited this user’s data only
    in dbo.Constants table, so the edited data not included in other related tables, it may cause the current issue.
    For the edit TFS database issue, you need contact a Professional Support Service at
    http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=assistance to gain more support on this case.

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2010 install fails on Windows 2012 R2 server

    Microsoft kb article at https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2724471/ is saying we need to use the Sharepoint install CD that includes SP2 in order for installation to succeed.  Where can we download Sharepoint Foundation 2010 SP2 slipstream install image
    so that we can be compatible with install on a Win2012 R2 server?  Can you provide a link.   Technet download page only has the Sharepoint install and the SP2 install separately.   Thank you.

    You can download it from here:
