SharePoint Foundation - Site Navigation

Hi,
I'm trying to set the navigation in SPF site so the top bar will show dropdown menu, and the subsite will show the same navigation as parent site.
1. when create sub site define that its navigation will be as parent
2. Edit root site navigation  - heading and links in root site - and select "Oslo" layout in "Change the look"
Root site seems ok and show the top navigation with dropdown - but subsite no... what's the solution? is it a bug?
keren tsur

Hi Keren,
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I tested in my SharePoint Foundation environment as below:
In the root site, go to site settings > Change the look > select "sea monster", and it displayed dropdown menu for subsits.
New subsite and make it use the top link bar as parent site.
Then I accessed the subsite, it displayed as default looking in blue color and the top link bar didn't change.
It seems like the navigation displays per the theme since there are other themes which will not display drop menu for subsites. In addition,I didn't find the "Oslo" theme in my "change the look".
Thanks for your understanding.

  • "An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files" connecting site with SharePoint Designer

I have a SharePoint 2013 environment with 1 AD Server, 1 DB Server and 1 APP Server, with 13 Web Applications running under the SharePoint.
Recently I rebuilted the application because of some infrasctrucutre problems, and I was able to solve all of them, except one. I can't connect to any of those 13 Web Apps with SharePoint Designer. When I try to connect, it always ask credentials, then it
seems like loading the site, then the error appears:
"An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files. Authors - if you are authoring against
a Web server, please contact the Webmaster for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please see the server's application event log for more details."
I've spent hours troubleshooting it, but none of the information I found was valid. I've already tried to clean the cache, but didn't work. I found plenty of related data of this
error with FrontPage and old versions of SharePoint, but nothing helped. All the Web Apps are SPD-Enabled at Site Collection Administration. I've tried connecting from many different PC's. The 15/LOGS folder doesn't get any data from this error, neither the
    Event Viewer.
I really don't know what else to do. Please Help!

I found the answer of my issue was in a .NET Agent installed by NewRelic on the server. I found a connection trouble with Fiddler, then I end up figuring this out:
This can be the result of Real User Monitoring so the first step in troubleshooting would be to disable it and see how it affects the application. The .Net Agent injects snippets of javascript into the header of pages sent to the users browser to measure the
page load time on the user's end.
You can disable RUM by editing newrelic.config and changing this line:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="true"/>
    to this:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="false"/>

  • SharePoint Foundation Site Web Analytics reports

    Hi,
I am currently attempting to get the Site Web Analytics reports to work in SharePoint Foundation.  However, there seems to be little available information regarding this.  What is necessary for this to display a report?  To start with, what
SharePoint & Windows services and SharePoint service applications need to be started?  We use SQL Authentication for the content database because all the databases are in a different domain.
Any information someone can shed would be helpful.
Currently, when I navigate to the page it states "A web analytics report is not available for this site.  Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the usage data for this site has not been processed yet."  I have looked up this
information on the net, but nearly all information applies to SharePoint Server.  I need help setting this up with SharePoint Foundation.
    Thank you much.

    Hi Steven,
Ahhh, I had a feeling that was a problem.
I had similar issues after installing SP1 so I could have some of the new features, like the storage report back for sites, and deleted sites going into the recycle bin. However, I had read that I *had* to install the June 30 CU as well, which may have been
a mistake. Because after installing both and running a psconfigui, it made things as flaky as they were during the beta.
It took my good, stable, trustworthy and solid SPF install and made it unstable. Managed Accounts started acting weird, permissions were odd, BDC service crapped out, user code errors, the works. Bummed me out. I basically blew out the server, did a fresh
install and restored from a farm backup (actually a full then differential, gotta love scheduling backups). Mind you, I could afford to do that, and I simply don't mess around with bad updates.
(I also found a post that said that if you have SP1 installed, a common error is if you delete a list, then delete the site, you can restore the site from recycle bin, but the list that was deleted from that site earlier cannot be restored-- so to avoid/fix
that problem, install the August CU... it's always something...)
Do you have backups of your farm pre-updates, preferably both, but at least the CU? Maybe you can do a restore on a virtual machine to see if it fixes your issues?
Also, here's another question. After you installed SP1 and the August CU, did you do a psconfigUI.exe (or at the command line, psconfig.exe)? It might be good and bad that you didn't (if you didn't). The way to check to see if you didn't is check the database
statuses (review database status under Upgrade and Patch Management in Central Admin). The statuses will say that the databases can be/should be updated if you didn't run psconfig. That means that SharePoint has updated, but the databases in SQL haven't.
Maybe you can make a copy of those databases, and try to attach those databases to a pre-update (sp1 and CU) SharePoint Foundation server to see if web analytics work there again. Although, if I am understanding correctly, some changes can occur on databases
during updates, but they're not complete til psconfig is run. But hey, it's worth a shot.
Or you can use psconfigui.exe (or psconfig.exe if you want to use the command line) to update the databases and see if that fixes the problem.
I'm sorry again about your issues if they are update related. It is so frustrating to think you are trying to stay up to date on your server, being a good admin, and instead it breaks important things without apology or way to fix it (since cumulative updates
cannot be uninstalled, but it is really difficult and potentially expensive to have to fully identical farms running side by side for testing).CA Callahan | Author: Mastering Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 and Mastering Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 | Community Launch Leader |

  • Error getting in SharePoint Foundation Site

    HI All,
I am new to Sharepoint i have installed SP Foundation 2010 and SSRS 2012 in SP integration Mode in windows 7.To use Powerview Adhoc Reporting functionality i have created Tabular Model in SSAS and deployed. When i am trying to call the model from sharepoint
2010 site through document library using report data source, but i failed to do it due to iam getting error as below.
This SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) functionality is not supported. Use Central Administration to verify and fix one or more of the following issues:
A report server URL is not configured. Use the SSRS Integration page to set it.
The SSRS service application proxy is not configured. Use the SSRS service application pages to configure the proxy.
The SSRS service application is not mapped to this web application. Use the SSRS service application pages to associate the SSRS service application proxy to the Application Proxy Group for this web application.
Please help any one on this issues.
    Thanks in advance
    Babavali S

In order to use PowerView, you must have SQL Server Reporting Services as well as PowerPivot installed on SharePoint 2010. PowerPivot and PowerView both require SharePoint Enterprise. They will not run on SharePoint Foundation.

  • Embed metatag navigation with API or Web Part in SharePoint 2010 web site or site navigation

Is it possible to embedd the metadata navigation of a dokument libary via API or webpart flexible and unfolded into SharePoint 2010 site navigation or in an other area of the SharePoint Webseite?

    Hello Mayank,
If you want to display content within a site collection then you can also use CQWP and dataview webpart but if you want to show content in different site collection then you have to create custom webpart.
You can also try with codeplex webpart:
    http://crosssiteviewer.codeplex.com/
For creating own webpart, please look at here:

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 Remote Desktop Integration.

    Hi,
I am trying to integrate some form of RDP service into the Sharepoint Foundation Site I'm working on. I would like for users of the site to be able to use a web-based RDP to connect to PC's on the network.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, Microsoft does not produce the RD Webpart for SharePoint 2013. They did have a solution for 2010 (http://blogs.technet.com/b/ptsblog/archive/2012/03/30/integrating-remote-desktop-services-with-sharepoint-server-2010.aspx).

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 Configure Search Navigation

I am testing out the search feature of Foundation 2013 and I want to allow my users to refine their searches via Result Sources.  From the instructions that I have read I should be able to do this in the Global Search Results page that I created ->
Site Settings -> Search -> Search Settings.  It appears there should be a section for "Configure Search Navigation".  I do not have this option.  Is this something that is disabled in the Foundation edition of Sharepoint?
For reference here is what I was following for instructions.
http://en.share-gate.com/blog/sharepoint-2013-search-settings-and-search-box-drop-down-menu About halfway down the page it shows this configuration box.  I cannot see that on my Search Settings page at all.
I have successfully created a Result Source that does work, but I seemingly have no way of presenting that to the user.  The Navigation WebPart also relies on the "Configure Search Navigation" settings, which I can't see in my setup.
    Suggestions?

    Hello,
"Configure Search Navigation" is not present in SharePoint Foundation 2013, but it is still available
via SOM (and PowerShell, of course). Try this if this helps (full url of Search Center on my dev environment is http://dev/search):
using (var siteCollection = new SPSite("http://dev"))
    using (var site = siteCollection.OpenWeb("search"))
        site.Navigation.SearchNav.AddAsFirst(
            new SPNavigationNode("Test", "http://dev"));
        site.Update();

  • Sharepoint foundation 2013 : After doing backup cannot access the site "Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you"

I am using SharePoint Foundation 2013 , i have backed up the site using powershell with the following command:
    -backup-spsite -identity http://dmsserver/sites/demo/ -path C:\SPSiteBackup.bak
After backup finished, i can't access the site, the message "Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you" appears, even the site administrator collection is configured coorectly, with the  Administrator account.
    Whats the problem?
    Please Advice.

    Hi husseinsa,
According to your description, my understanding is that you could not access the site after backing up the site collection in SharePoint 2013 Foundation.
Could you access other sites at the same site collection?
Let’s do a troubleshooting for this issue:
Please delete the IE cache:  IE options->General->Delete, select all checkboxes, and click Delete.
Go to CA->Application Management->Manage web applications, select the web application which hosts the problematic site .
Click Permisson Policy, make sure there are not any deny policies for site collection administrator and site collection auditor.
Back to the web application list page, click User Policy, check whether there are any user policies for denying permissions.
Change the site collection administrator or add a secondary site collection administrator in CA, then use the new site collection administrator to log in the site, compare the result.
Open IIS, expand the server, and click application pools.
Find the problematic web application pool, make the identity of the pool is correct, then do an IISRESET, compare the result.
If this issue still exists, please check the log file to find more information about this issue. The path of the log file is
    : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS.
Or you can use Event Viewer(Start->Run->event viewer) to find the log.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

    All,

There were no error logs or even SharePoint logs also except the images load time is showing with different load times.

SQL connectivity b/w the server is good.there are no n/w issues except that the users are using the sites with a different domain other than the domain in which the servers were hosted.
There is a trust b/w the two domains. This was never changed and there were no issues in the last 2 years.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Feature Pack and Site Templates

I have created a site using a site subscription and a SharePoint Foundation 2013 Feature Pack ( used the SP Foundation Feature Pack Script here http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/SharePoint-2013-Foundation-d3d1637f that
    was created by Spencer Harbar)
When I go to create a sub-site, there are 3 site templates that are available that strictly speaking should not be for Foundation edition. When I try and create sites using those I get errors because the features needed from them are not part of the subscription.
    The site templates available are:
    Collaboration > Project Site
    Enterprise > Document Center
    Enterprise > Records Center
Does any one know why these would be displaying?

Hello, if I remember correctly the issue was that I created the form with InfoPath 2013 and was trying to test using InfoPath 2010. This does not work.
Did you create the form using InfoPath 2013?

You have to have SharePoint 2010, either SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010, installed somewhere in order to be able to create SharePoint sites with SharePoint Designer 2010. SharePoint Designer 2010 is a client-side product, which is usually
installed on end user machines and then used to connect to a server-side edition of SharePoint 2010 (either of the two I mentioned above) to modify the SharePoint sites hosted on that server-side product.
It is possible to install SharePoint Foundation 2010 on a client operating system (Windows 7), but it is much more likely that a production environment will involve installing SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010 on a server operating system
(Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2) on a central server that can be accessed by multiple users.
If you are looking to do testing, you can either install Foundation on Windows 7, or use a virtualization product such as Hyper-V, VMware Workstation, Virtual Box, to name a few, to build a virtual server hosting SharePoint.
You aren't going to be able to create SharePoint sites with SPD until you have SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010 somewhere for it to connect to, sorry.

  • Windows Security Prompt in Internet Explorer 10 on Sharepoint Foundation 2013 site

    Hi,
I have Sharepoint Foundation 2013 and when I access the site from Internet Explorer 10 I get prompted for windows security, after enter my domain credential I am able to log into the site.  When I access the site from Internet Explorer 9 I don't
receive the windows security prompt.  Below you will find screenshot.  How can I prevent Internet Explorer 10 and later to not prompt for domain credential?
    Thanks

Add *.domain.com to the Intranet Zone in IE.

  • Site Login Behavior For SharePoint Foundation 2013 Users With Expired Passwords?

What are the most user-friendly ways of getting external users with expired AD passwords back into the SharePoint site with a new working password?
We already send automated email notifications to users reminding them to change their soon-to-expire passwords.  However, sometimes they miss seeing the email notifications before the password expires (such as after returning from vacation or just carelessness
and lack of attention to email messages) or they see the warning messages and forget to act on it.
When this happens and they try to log into the SharePoint site from the Internet, their login fails without telling the user the reason they can't log in is because their password expired.  So, they end up confused and call the help desk to get their
    password reset.
Is there a way to set up SharePoint Foundation 2013 login in a similar way to the OWA login so that, when a user with a correct but expired password tries to log in, it gives them a prompt to set a new password right there rather than just an error indicating
their login failed for unknown reasons or password is "incorrect?"

It could be done. You get a different event log entry for an expired login attempt than for a wrong password, 4625 events denote a login failure and an error ID of 23 denotes a logon failure.
A naff, but simple, approach would be to create a tool that checks your server logon event log for 4625 entries and then emails that user, or the help desk, or security, that they're trying to get onto your system with expired credentials.
For a more polished experience you've got a lot more work and bluntly it's going to be impractical for you. You'd have to re-write sections of the SharePoint authentication process or intercept the process, both are risky and not a good idea to try.
There's a really interesting paper here that might be of interest, it won't help you in your current situation but it might shed more light on the overall authentication/authorisation process.
