SharePoint Learning

Hi. I'm new to SharePoint but need to do some training.
Can anybody tell me the best route to take - the 2 exams I'm looking at are:
70-541 TS: Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 - Application Development
70-542 TS: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - Application Development
I'm wondering which one to do first - does it matter? Or maybe there is a better route to take.
In addition how much benefit is there to learn some .NET skills before, rather than after I do courses.
Thanks
David

 Hello,
If you want to learn SharePoint, I prefer Train Signal video learning for SharePoint
http://www.trainsignal.com/Sharepoint-Server-2007-Training-P25.aspx
After completing SharePoint, try to learn more about SharePoint Security using Forefront Security for SharePoint
http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/sharepoint/en/us/default.aspx
It's not a bug, it's a feature

Firstly I am new to SharePoint support so apologise if I am re-treading old ground.
We are using SharePoint Foundation 2010 and SLK 1.5.2.
When accessing the “E-Leaning Actions”, “Assign To Site” or “Assing To Self” menu options I get “Error: Access Denied”, “You are currently signed in as : XXXX”,“Sign in as a different user”.

  • Grading SCORM content on SharePoint with SLK (SharePoint Learning Kit)

    Hi everyone,
My name is Kevin and I am currently working in a company to develop E-Learning materials to help train new hires. I am using Articulate Storyline to make quiz content and uploading the content to SharePoint with the SharePoint Learning Kit SLK. Here is some
information that you can follow and hopefully help me with configuring SLK to grade my Articulate quizzes.
First, I want to outline the progress I have currently made so that anybody can see if the problems I have are due to things I already did:
Used Articulate Storyline to make Presentations with Quiz questions in them that are graded and reviewed at the end of the Presentation
Published the Storylines to LMS in SCORM 2004 format and saved to my computer
Took each published Storyline and made .zip files
Uploaded .zip files to SharePoint 2010 with SLK (SharePoint Learning Kit). Can assign Learners with .zip files as long as they download them, extract them, and find the ‘story.swf’ flash file that runs the Presentation so they can go through the Storylines,
answer quiz questions, and receive a quiz grade at the end of them
The issue is that after downloading each .zip file, running the Presentation, and finishing the Quiz questions at the end of them, the information cannot be stored or saved and re-submitted to SLK which should then automatically read the Quiz progress and
log in a grade as well as log in completion of the assignment due to passing grades.
    The questions at hand are:
How to save or store graded information from the Presentations so that they can be submitted to SLK?
How to make sure SLK takes in the graded information submitted from the Presentations automatically, store it, and reveal them?
How to make sure SLK determines assignment completion and passing assignments grade-wise?
I watched videos of how SLK grades the quiz content and I think that will work, but I think my main issue is saving that quiz content and getting to submit to SLK for grading.
Thank you for reading about my issue and any help would be greatly appreciated. If I think of other questions, I’ll let you know and if you have questions for me, feel free to ask.
    Sincerely,
    Kevin Bansleben

  • Using Captivate with SharePoint

I apologize in advance, the "search within this forum" function is not working, so I can't search the Captivate forum to see if this question has already been answered.
When you develop training and quizzes in Captivate, I've heard you can post the files on SharePoint, and then SharePoint will capture the student information and quiz results.  Has anyone successfully done this just using a standard SharePoint site, and not the SharePoint LMS that is offered?

    Hi Jim,
I can't seem to get a reply from anyone on the forum for the SharePoint Learning Kit, so maybe you can answer my question.
Once you set up your SharePoint site and download the SharePoint Learning Kit,  how do you activate the kit on your site?
    Thanks,

The http://slk.codeplex.com/ is designed to provide a full blown LMS inside of SharePoint and it's free.
SharePoint Learning Kit is a SCORM 2004 certified e-learning delivery  and tracking application built as a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0  solution. It works with either Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or  Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and has the following core  features:
Supports SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and Class Server content,  allowing users to store and manage this content in SharePoint document  libraries.
Supports learner-centric and instructor-led (assigned) workflows.
Allows assignment, tracking and grading of both e-learning  and non-e-learning content.
    Hope that helps,

  • Captivate SCORM and SharePoint...

My company is working to set up a training program using
SharePoint Learning Kit (SLK) as the LMS and Captivate 3/SCORM
    compliant classes for the content.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Can captivate class progress be saved and resumed at a
later date exactly where the student left off? Currently we are
using demo mode not interactive, but I'm wondering if this can be
done with both as we may go interactive later.
    2. Can the captivate flash player be rebranded to fit the
    company brand?
    3. Do you have any links or resources on configuring
captivate to work with Microsoft SharePoint Learning Kit?
    Thanks in advanced.

    1. Sure, as long as the LMS supports it. Captivate stores
    current
progress in the suspendData field. So as long as the LMS has
    that
variable and can send the values back to a Captivate lesson
    on request
(when relaunched), Captivate will resume (in most cases).
    2. I think so, at least to some degree. Search about a bit
    and find out
where the 'skins' are stored. You should be able to use one
    as you
basis, modify it, and save as a new skin. I think they're
    pretty much
    all just BMP/JPG files.
    3. I'd like to know this too!

  • Future of Academic Library Site Template

I'm working on creating a training site for my company and during the course of discovery stumbled across the "Academic Library" site template which, based upon some research, would be a perfect fit for my requirements.  The problem is It's
not selectable when creating a new site and from what I'm seeing may be a dead feature.
Is anyone able to confirm this?  I've used the
SharePoint Learning Kit (SLK) in a 2010 environment but it's not updated for 2013 and I really don't want to go that route if Microsoft is planning on including this functionality in the near future.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Microsoft dropped the SharePoint for Education feature, so you'll still need to look at 3rd parties to (such as the SLK -- which my first guess would work with just a recompile) implement education functionality.

  • Can you get file creation dates for Nomad II .NVF fil

    Hi,
I have an old Nomad II MG that has several voice recordings of my daughter over the last 4 years, but I don't know the dates they were recorded.
Is there a way to get the actual date of the recording from the Nomad device? All I seem to end up with is the current date when I upload it into Windows.
    Thanks...
    lj

    Hi,
Newbie to SharePoint, learn quite a lot from the links you provided.
“I found out that the original dates are only available in SharePoint if the explorerview has been used”, this would make sense because the original creation time is generated
by the file system in the local machine.
However, when a file is uploaded to SharePoint library, it will be stored as binary data in the database, as well as the newly created time. It means that it will be a “new” file
in the SharePoint site regardless of where it comes from.
Per my knowledge, the only way I can suggest is that you will need to create a client desktop application for the file uploading, which will be a more general way not only for
uploading a file, but also when we need to migrate files between different systems.
    Thanks

  • Captivate Quiz: enable revisiting questions and change answers.

    Hi,
we are using Captivate 5 to create quizzes which run in a scorm lms (Sharepoint Learning Kit).
We want to enable the user to go to any slide and answer the question on the slide.
If the user wants to reedit the answer on any slide he can do so by revisiting the slide and edit his answer.
The test should be finished when the last slide is submitted.
Is this possible? How is this accomplished?
We were able to integrate a back button, but if the user goes back, the already answered slide is locked.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Anjaneai,
i tried the settings you mentioned. The result is that the slide is stuck. The next buttton will not bring you to the next slide.
The second approach (retake) is not allowed in our scenario.
    Perhaps this is useful info:
The answers that are entered in our quiz can not be evaluated to true or false in the captivate module itself at runtime. The answers are stored in the lms and are rated by a auditor afterwards.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to get Test Results to SQL w/o Coldfusion

Is there a way to get Captivate test results (or any results)
to SQL. I was thinking of using the SCORM interface?
A simple elegant solution would be great since I want to
build it into to all my componants.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott

If your organization is running Sharpoint 3.x, you can use
the sharepoint learning kit which runs off of a sql back end. This
is a SCORM 2004 compliant LMS that can be found here:
    http://www.codeplex.com/SLK
If you want to do this without an LMS, you can set up your
quiz to just send the score as in this article:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/captivate/articles/store_cpresults_print.html
You steal the idea from here, but in your javascript, you can
do a pass your variables (quiz resutls), to an asp.net page that
places them into a SQL db. I'm working on such a solution right
now. That way, you don't need an LMS and you have complete control
over how and when the results are stored.

  • Get original file creation and modified date during upload - ONLY in explorerview ??

    Hi,
SharePoint and me are having a difficult time again ;-)
I have the customer requirement to retain the original file's creation date and modified date.
Please do not start replying by just pasting links that you might find while searching for the keywords "retain creation date".
In a nutshell I found out that the original dates are only available in SharePoint if the
explorerview has been used. I always thought that the explorerview is a bad thing, but only here - the original creation date is stored in a property called "vti_ct". In the itemupdated eventreceiver you can get the
    value and work with it.
    Complete list of available properties
    http://sbrickey.com/Tech/Blog/Post/Secrets_Revealed_SP_Event_Receivers_firing_multiple_times
Here I found the hint with the explorerview
    http://answers.flyppdevportal.com/categories/sharepoint2010/sharepoint2010programming.aspx?ID=57bfd5f5-941f-4a89-919d-cdf7b0b801be
It is only available in the 2nd loop of the itemupdated event.
How the f*** can this happen??? The 2nd post states that when using the explorerview the file is being copied, while it is being re-created by using the SharePoint UI.
Has anyone a different approach for using the SharePoint UI?
I thought about different approaches for this issue. From my perspective it seems to be not solvable from the server-side. It seems only to be able to be set using a client application.
    Example 1: spbulkdocumentimport
    http://spbulkdocumentimport.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Features&referringTitle=Documentation
Example 2: implement a custom webservice
    http://blog.orbitone.com/post/Preserve-created-and-modified-information-when-importing-a-document-in-SharePoint
How do you deal with this customer requirement?

  • What to learn for developing in sharepoint

    Hi all,
this may be a strange question but i'm gonna ask it anyway :)
For my work i started using sharepoint 2013 in office365. Our customers are starting to use it as well so we are going to help them set up the environments. My knowledge for the built-in functions is getting there but I would like to know what I should be
learning if I want to be developing custom solutions in sharepoint 2013 (office365).
I have some knowledge on javascript, and more ond HTML and CSS.
When I read some articles about it I can't get clear if I should only learn better javascript or start learning C# instead. Is there a reason to use both or will javascript be enough for developing in sharepoint?
If anyone can give me any insight in this it would be very helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
SharePoint 2013 (0365) does not support farm solutions and Sandbox solutions are deprecated and will be removed from the future releases.  Developing SharePoint App solutions is the preferred way in SharePoint 2013, so your focus should be more on client
technologies such JavaScript, Knockout.js, Angular.js, CSS3, HTML 5, Bootstrap etc.
Please refer to the following book, which has information on developing SharePoint 2013 App development, which the preferred way to develop the solutions using JavaScript and Knockout.JS
    Pro SharePoint 2013 App Development
And also refer to the following very nice Pluralsight course, which is the best way to start learning about developing solutions in SharePoint 2013 using JavaScript
Developing SharePoint 2013 Solutions with JavaScript
And also refer to the David Mann blog about JavaScript and SharePoint 2013 related courses.

    Hope, this answer your questions.
