“This configuration change cannot be made at this time because the service is in read-only mode.”

Hi,
I want to setup an outpund hybrid search for SharePoint 2013 on-premise to SharePoint Online.
But I'm not shure if this works with ADFS SSO.
Has somebody experience with this setup?
Here's my guide which I'm going to use for this installation:
Introduction
In this post I'll show you how to get search results from your SharePoint Online in your SharePoint 2013 on-premise search center.
Requirements
User synchronisation ActiveDirectory to Office 365 with DirSync
DirSync password sync or ADFS SSO
SharePoint Online
SharePoint 2013 on-premise
Enterprise Search service
SharePoint Online Management Shell
Instructions
All configuration will be done either in the Search Administration of the Central Administration or in the PowerShell console of your on-premise SharePoint 2013 server.
Set up Sever to Server Trust
Export certificates
To create a server to server trust we need two certificates.
[certificate name].pfx: In order to replace the STS certificate, the certificate is needed in Personal Information Exchange (PFX) format including the private key.
[certificate name].cer: In order to set up a trust with Office 365 and Windows Azure ACS, the certificate is needed in CER Base64 format.
First launch the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
Select your SharePoint web server and double-click Server Certificates
In the Actions pane, click Create Self-Signed Certificate
Enter a name for the certificate and save it with OK
To export the new certificate in the Pfx format select it and click Export in the Actions pane
Fill the fields and click OK Export to: C:\[certificate
name].pfx Password: [password]
Also we need to export the certificate in the CER Base64 format. For that purpose make a right-click on the certificate select it and click on View...
Click the Details tab and then click Copy to File
On the Welcome to the Certificate Export Wizard page, click Next
On the Export Private Key page, click Next
On the Export File Format page, click Base-64 encoded X.509 (.CER), and then click Next.
As file name enter C:\[certificate
name].cer and then click Next
Finish the export
Import the new STS (SharePoint Token Service) certificate
Let's update the certificate on the STS. Configure and run the PowerShell script below on your SharePoint server.
if(-not (Get-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)){Add-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell"}
# set the cerficates paths and password
$PfxCertPath = "c:\[certificate name].pfx"
$PfxCertPassword = "[password]"
$X64CertPath = "c:\[certificate name].cer"
# get the encrypted pfx certificate object
$PfxCert = New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Certificate2 $PfxCertPath, $PfxCertPassword, 20
# import it
Set-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig -ImportSigningCertificate $PfxCert
Type Yes when prompted with the following message.
You are about to change the signing certificate for the Security Token Service. Changing the certificate to an invalid, inaccessible or non-existent certificate will cause your SharePoint installation to stop functioning. Refer
to the following article for instructions on how to change this certificate: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=178475. Are you
sure, you want to continue?
Restart IIS so STS picks up the new certificate.
& iisreset
& net stop SPTimerV4
& net start SPTimerV4
Now validate the certificate replacement by running several PowerShell commands and compare their outputs.
# set the cerficates paths and password
$PfxCertPath = "c:\[certificate name].pfx"
$PfxCertPassword = "[password]"
# get the encrypted pfx certificate object
New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Certificate2 $PfxCertPath, $PfxCertPassword, 20
# compare the output above with this output
(Get-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig).LocalLoginProvider.SigningCertificate
[/code]
## Establish the server to server trust
[code lang="ps"]
if(-not (Get-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)){Add-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell"}
Import-Module MSOnline
Import-Module MSOnlineExtended
# set the cerficates paths and password
$PfxCertPath = "c:\[certificate name].pfx"
$PfxCertPassword = "[password]"
$X64CertPath = "c:\[certificate name].cer"

New-SPTrustedSecurityTokenIssuer -MetadataEndpoint "https://accounts.accesscontrol.windows.net/metadata/json/1/" -IsTrustBroker -Name "ACS"
Add a new result source
To get search results from SharePoint Online we have to add a new result source. Run the following script in a PowerShell ISE session on your SharePoint 2013 on-premise server. Don't forget to update the settings region
if(-not (Get-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)){Add-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell"}
# region settings
$RemoteSharePointUrl = "http://[example].sharepoint.com"
$ResultSourceName = "SharePoint Online"
$QueryTransform = "{searchTerms}"
$Provier = "SharePoint-Remoteanbieter"
# region settings end
$SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication
$FederationManager = New-Object Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.Query.FederationManager($SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication)
$SPEnterpriseSearchOwner = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchOwner -Level Ssa
$ResultSource = $FederationManager.GetSourceByName($ResultSourceName, $SPEnterpriseSearchOwner)
if(!$ResultSource){
Write-Host "Result source does not exist. Creating..."
$ResultSource = $FederationManager.CreateSource($SPEnterpriseSearchOwner)
$ResultSource.Name = $ResultSourceName
$ResultSource.ProviderId = $FederationManager.ListProviders()[$Provier].Id
$ResultSource.ConnectionUrlTemplate = $RemoteSharePointUrl
$ResultSource.CreateQueryTransform($QueryTransform)
$ResultSource.Commit()
Add a new query rule
In the Search Administration click on Query Rules
Select Local SharePoint as Result Source
Click New Query Rule
Enter a Rule name f.g. Search results from SharePoint Online
Expand the Context section
Under Query is performed on these sources click on Add Source
Select your SharePoint Online result source
In the Query Conditions section click on Remove Condition
In the Actions section click on Add Result Block
As title enter Results for "{subjectTerms}" from SharePoint Online
In the Search this Source dropdown select your SharePoint Online result source
Select 3 in the Items dropdown
Expand the Settings section and select "More" link goes to the following URL
In the box below enter this Url https://[example].sharepoint.com/search/pages/results.aspx?k={subjectTerms}
Select This block is always shown above core results and click the OK button
Save the new query ruleHi Janik,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display hybrid search results in SharePoint Server 2013.
For achieving your demand, please have a look at the article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn197173(v=office.15).aspx
If you are using single sign-on (SSO) authentication, it is important to test hybrid Search functionality by using federated user accounts. Native Office 365 user accounts and Active Directory Domain Services
(AD DS) accounts that are not federated are not recognized by both directory services. Therefore, they cannot authenticate using SSO, and cannot be granted permissions to resources in both deployments. For more information, see Accounts
needed for hybrid configuration and testing.

Sharepoint Online: Find an Item box is not finding all items in a list based on keyword search
I am using SharePoint Online.
I have a standard SharePoint list with a "Name" field (single line of text) and a "Description" field (multiple lines of text). The Find n Item search box is present as expected, and works very sporadically. For example, I
have an item with the word "white" in the Description field. Searching for "white" doesn't find the item. I have a number of items with the word "vending" in the Name field. Searching for vending returns some
of the items, but not all of them.
I have gone into the list settings (Advanced) and reindexed the list.
Here are two screenshots that illustrate the issue. The first is unfiltered. The second shows a filter on the word "vending". Note that some are found and some are not.
Filtered
Any idea what's going on?I am also experiencing an issue with the find. If not the same issue David is having, I suspect it is related, so I will describe it here.
I created a list based on the Contacts content type and within a standard list view, entering values in the "Find an item" box will match content of some columns, but not others. The four columns that the find misses are Position(renamed from Job Title),
Email Address, Mobile Phone, and Years Of Service (a Numeric column I added to the list). I too have re-indexed the list and retested after several hours.
Full Name and Email Address are both native columns of the Contact content type and both are Single line of text. I am able to filter the list by finding partial matches on Full Name, but not Email Address. -
Is it possible to use microsoft.sharepoint.client.search.analytics to report the monthly hit count of site collections on SharePoint Online.
GetHitCountForDay()
GetHitCountForMonth()
If yes, how can this be called and executed successfully from a Console application using the Client Object Model.

O365 SharePoint Online. Search no longer working. Where exactly are crawl logs?
On o365/SharePoint Online 2013
A few weeks Search stopped working on existing sites in SPO. New site seem to index fine. We can't find files and list entries inside doc libs and lists now.
I'm looking at Search Settings in o365 and have added myself to have access to Crawl logs,
but where are they in SPO?
We've tried re-indexing sites, but it has not helped.
All search settings are the default, and I don see any exclusion of sites.
Also, can somebody tell me what the typical turn around time is for expecting a document just added to show up on Search?Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to see the crawl log in the SharePoint online.
Per my experience, the users in the security group can view the crawl log data via the
eDiscovery portal to check whether crawled content was successfully added to the search index, or whether indexing failed because of an error.
For more information, you can refer to the following article.

Compare the strengths and limitations of the Web Parts
It’s important that you understand the strengths and limitations of the two Web Parts because if you choose the wrong one, your site could run into performance problems. You can use both Web Parts to show content that is based on a query. In a simplified
world, here’s how you can decide between the two:
Use the CQWP when you have a limited amount of content, your query is simple, and you don’t expect your content to grow much in the future.
Use the CSWP in all other scenarios when you want to show content that is based on a query.

How to extend OOTB Content Search WebPart in SharePoint Online/0365 programmatically ?
Hi All,
We have some requirements wherein we need to extend some of the properties of Content Search WebPart in SharePoint Online/0365 using javascript (I am using 0365 NAPA tools). We are looking to create an App Part which functions same as content search webpart.
To be specific I want to override "QueryText" property of CSWP (using javascript in NAPA tool).
Any help would be greatly apprieciated.
Thanks in advance,
Dhananjay.If you're talking about affecting the CSWP within a host web from within an AppPart, then no it won't be possible as the AppPart runs within an iFrame.
Perhaps a better approach might be to run your searches within the AppPart using the REST interface for search. Chris O'Brien has a pretty good example of this on his blog..
http://www.sharepointnutsandbolts.com/2013/01/calling-sharepoint-search-using-rest-eg.html and I think Scott Hillier did a session at SPC which you should be able to find on Channel 9. (Just search for REST SEARCH API)

Cannot see managed properties values in search result webpart- Sharepoint online
Hi,
Cannot see custom managed properties at site collection level in ResultScriptWebPart for SharePoint online. where as it is visible when i create managed properties @SSA (Search Service Application) level.
Below are the steps which I followed:
1) I have added few custom managed properties at Search Site collection level in SharePoint online.
2) Mapped those properties to user profile crawled properties
3) We are using those custom managed properties in ResultScriptWebPart(People Search Core Results) by using ItemTemplate
I cannot see those managed properties in search result.When I debug it in browser it comes as null.
But when I add these managed properties @SSA (Search Service Application) level I can see the value in search result webpart.
What is the reason value doesn't get populated at Site Collection level?
Thanks,
Prashant AHi Prashant,
Based on your description, the site collection managed property cannot work in SharePoint Online.
For troubleshooting this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:
Please make sure that the full crawl has been run after creating the managed property.
Please check if the managed property is set to be searchable.
Please search with this managed property to see if the results can be returned.
Thanks,
Victoria

SharePoint 2010 search webservices compatibility with SharePoint 2013

Please helpHi Raghuramk,
is the web service is a search query web service? if yes, i suppose sharepoint 2013 already deprecated,
Search Query web service
Description: The Search Query web service is deprecated in SharePoint 2013.
In SharePoint Server 2010, the Search Query web service exposes the SharePoint Enterprise Search capabilities to client applications. This enables you to access search results from client and web applications outside the context of a SharePoint site.
Reason for change: The Search Query web service is deprecated because the client object model (CSOM) and a new REST-based web service are available for developing Office-wide extensibility scenarios. The CSOM exposes the same functionality
as the Search Query web service, and a larger set of functionality for stand-alone client applications.

Anil LokaPlease try below mentioned steps:
1. Central Administration > Monitoring > Review job definitions > Look for following timer job "Application Server Administration Service Timer Job" > Disable
2. Then open windows administrative services (services.msc), stop SharePoint Timer Service
3. Clear SharePoint Timer configuration cache by following steps mentioned in below blog:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jamesway/archive/2011/05/23/sharepoint-2010-clearing-the-configuration-cache.aspx
4. Start SharePoint Timer Service and give it a few seconds so that the new XML files from the location you deleted then are re-populated.
5.Central Administration > Monitoring > Review job definitions > Look for following timer job "Application Server Administration Service" Timer Job > Enable

SharePoint 2013 Search - Disaster Recovery Restore
Hello,
We are setting up a new SharePoint 2013 with a separate Disaster Recovery farm as a hot-standby. In a DR scenario, we want to restore all content and service app databases to the new farm, then fix any configuration issues that might arise due to changes
in server names, etc...
The issue we're running into is the search service components are still pointing to the production servers even though they're in the new farm with completely different server names. This is expected, so we're preparing a PowerShell script to remove
then re-create the search components as needed. The problem is that all the commands used to apply the new search topology won't function because they can't access the administration component (very frustrating). It appears we're in a chicken &
egg scenario - we can't change the search topology because we don't have a working admin component, but we can't fix the admin component because we can't change the search topology.
The scripts below are just some of the things we've tried to fix the issue:
$sa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication "Search Service Application";
$local = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Local;
$topology = New-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $sa;
New-SPEnterpriseSearchAdminComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryProcessingComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
New-SPEnterpriseSearchCrawlComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
New-SPEnterpriseSearchContentProcessingComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
New-SPEnterpriseSearchAnalyticsProcessingComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local;
New-SPEnterpriseSearchIndexComponent -SearchTopology $topology -SearchServiceInstance $local -IndexPartition 0 -RootDirectory "D:\SP_Index\Index";
$topology.Activate();
We get this message:
Exception calling "Activate" with "0" argument(s): "The search service is not able to connect to the machine that
hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '764c17a1-4c29-4393-aacc-de01119aba0a'
in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again."
At line:11 char:1
+ $topology.Activate();
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : InvalidOperationException
Also, same as above with
$topology.BeginActivate()
We get no errors but the new topology is never activated. Attempting to call $topology.Activate() within the next few minutes will result in an error saying that "No modifications to the search topology can be made because previous changes are
being rolled back due to an error during a previous activation".
Next I found a few methods in the object model that looked like they might do some good:
$sa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication "Search Service Application";
$topology = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $sa -Active;
$admin = $topology.GetComponents() | ? { $_.Name -like "admin*" }
$topology.RecoverAdminComponent($admin,"server1");
This one really looked like it worked. It took a few seconds to run and came back with no errors. I can even get the active list of components and it shows that the Admin component is running on the right server:
Name ServerName
AdminComponent1 server1
ContentProcessingComponent1
QueryProcessingComponent1
IndexComponent1
QueryProcessingComponent3
CrawlComponent0
QueryProcessingComponent2
IndexComponent2
AnalyticsProcessingComponent1
IndexComponent3
However, I'm still unable to make further changes to the topology (getting the same error as above when calling $topology.Activate()), and the service application in central administration shows an error saying it can't connect to the admin component:
The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '764c17a1-4c29-4393-aacc-de01119aba0a' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again.
Lastly, I tried to move the admin component directly:
$sa.AdminComponent.Move($instance, "d:\sp_index")
But again I get an error:
Exception calling "Move" with "2" argument(s): "Admin component was moved to another server."
At line:1 char:1
+ $sa.AdminComponent.Move($instance, "d:\sp_index")
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [], MethodInvocationException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : OperationCanceledException
I've checked all the most common issues - the service instance is online, the search host controller service is running on the machine, etc... but I can't seem to get this database restored to a different farm.
Any help would be appreciated!Thanks for the response Bhavik,
I did ensure the instance was started:
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Local
TypeName : SharePoint Server Search
Description : Index content and serve search queries
Id : e9fd15e5-839a-40bf-9607-6e1779e4d22c
Server : SPServer Name=ROYALS
Service : SearchService Name=OSearch15
Role : None
Status : Online
But after attempting to set the admin component I got the results below.
Before setting the admin component:
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchAdministrationComponent -SearchApplication $sa
IndexLocation : E:\sp_index\Office Server\Applications
Initialized : True
ServerName : prodServer1
Standalone :
After setting the admin component:
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchAdministrationComponent -SearchApplication $sa
IndexLocation :
Initialized : False
ServerName :
Standalone :
It's shown this status for a few hours now so I don't believe it's still provisioning. Also, the search service administration is still showing the same error:
The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration
component '764c17a1-4c29-4393-aacc-de01119aba0a' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again.
