Sharepoint online & Sharepoint Designer 2013

Hi, I am receiving an error each time I try to open a SharePoint online site through SharePoint designer 2013.
The error is saying "The Server Could not complete your request". I click on 'Details' and get a repeated "403 Forbidden403 Forbidden403 Forbidden" error message. After I pass this message I get a standard "You do not have permission
to open this web site in SharePoint designer"
Here are a list of things that have so far not worked for me:
Using "https://" rather than "http://" - Same issue.
Removing SharePoint Designer, deleting cache in "users>Roaming>SharePoint designer cache"  - Same issue.
Clearing Generic Credentials in Credential Manager - Same issue.
Checking SharePoint site permissions to ensure that " Same issue.
My Admin role grants no restrictions.
I have Nintex trials installed and have used it to build forms on the site, I also have Nintex workflow however current tutorials detailing how to do what I need to do require SharePoint Designer 2013.
Finally SharePoint Developer 2013 has opened sites before, both SharePoint online sites and on prem, but now our company has gone in for the 'real deal' site I can not open this in SharePoint Designer 2013.
Any support would be very much appreciated, I have been trying to find a solution for a number of days now going into a week.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
What permission do you have at site collection level and site level?
For troubleshooting your issue, please go to your site collection -> site settings -> site collection administration -> SharePoint Designer Settings, make sure you enable the SharePoint Designer.
Also make sure the o365 sites are added to the trusted sites and the WebClient services (Search: services.msc) is running. Then in SPD go to Account > Switch Account and type in the credentials of the site you are trying to open (it defaults to your
Microsoft Login).

  • Can't open Sharepoint Online site in Sharepoint Designer 2013

    Hello!
I am trying to open a Sharepoint Online secure site in Sharepoint Designer 2013 (v15). When I try to open the site in Sharepoint Designer i get an error stating:
"Server error: The version of Microsoft SharePoint Foundation running on the server is more recent than the version of SharePoint Designer that you are using. You need a more recent version of SharePoint
    Designer."
I used to have the preview version installed, but I uninstalled it and got the latest version I could find (version 15?). I checked the SharePoint version on the server (/_vti_pvt/service.cnf) and it says:
    vti_encoding:SR|utf8-nl
vti_extenderversion:SR|16.0.0.1706The public site I have has the same version and it opens just fine in SharePoint Designer 2013. Are there any new versions of SharePoint Designer 2013 available that I have missed? My SharePoint Designer is up to date via Windows Update.I am running the designer on Windows 7 Ultimate x86.

I had the same issue today. Here what I have found.
I was using different credentials for my different SharePoint site in SPD 2013. When I try to access my new SharePoint online site (Which has different Account) the SharePoint Designer directly show me
"Server error: The version of Microsoft SharePoint Foundation running on the server is more recent than the version of SharePoint Designer that you are using. You need a more recent version of SharePoint Designer."
then I changed my Account Credentials by
    Open SPD 2013
    1)click File
    2) Click Account
    3) Log out from current user name
    4) sign in by using the same credential  as your new SharePoint Site.
    DONE!
I think this error is not useful as it (this error) is not about which version of SharePoint you are using but more about Account credentials.(At least for me) Hope that helps.

using sharepoint designer 2013 - connected to sharepoint online - but getting " data source file cannot be saved" after making a new linked datasource

    Hi,
Based on your description, I have done a test and I can’t reproduce your issue.
I have used SharePoint Designer 2013 to open a SharePoint Online site and there are no issues.
I’d like to clarify whether you encounter any issues when accessing SharePoint Online sites. If there are no issues during the accessing procedure, SharePoint Online service should be working fine at your side. The issue may be caused by specific SharePoint
Designer client or network. I suggest you refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Use SharePoint Designer to open another site and check whether it is successful.
    2. When you are prompted to enter Office 365 account and password, try other users’ accounts and select the remembering the credential.
    3. Perform the connection procedure under another environment and verify whether the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, can you provide related screenshots for further troubleshooting?

  • Get user manager in workflow SharePoint Designer 2013 for SharePoint online list item

    Hello,
I would like to create a workflow in SharePoint Designer 2013 for a list in a site on SharePoint online and one of the action would be to send an e-mail to the manager of the user that created an item in a list.
How can I get the manager of the user and then use it to send an e-mail?
    Thanks!

In SP Designer there's the following action that I use.
Find Manager for this user (then output to variable:manager) Action

  • SharePoint Designer 2013 cannot access workflows in Office 365 Site

I have an Office 365 SharePoint site with a number of workflows that I have created on my machine with SPD 2013. After a number of weeks I was unable to access the workflows from my machine through SPD (while still being able to access pages, site assets
etc.), getting the following error: (Am restricted from submitting images)
"Server-side activities have been updated. You need to restart SharePoint Designer to use the updated version of activities"
Restarting SPD doesn't help, after clicking OK I get the "SharePoint Designer cannot display the item" screen, prompting me to refresh.
When I do refresh, I get the following:
"Windows Workflow Foundation, part of .Net Framework 3.0, must be installed to use this feature"
This is happening on my machine, Windows 7 64 Bit, SPD 2013 64 Bit, but on a colleague's machine, Win 7 64 Bit, SPD 2013 64 Bit I can access the workflows.
I get the same error if I try to create a new Workflow on my machine but I can create it on my colleague's machine.
I downloaded SPD 2013 on a 32 bit laptop I have access to, in which I can create a workflow. One existing workflow can be accessed, updated etc. with no issue, one opens to a prompt to "Insert a stage" and one tells me that it "Failed to load
the workflow definition for the workflow", then the "SharePoint Designer cannot display the item" screen. All of these workflows can be accessed from my colleague's machine.
Here are the actions that I have taken to date on my own machine:
    Cleared the caches multiple times
    Checked for updates
    Installed .Net Framework 4.5
    Re-installed .Net Framework 4.0 (which contains 3.0)
    Uninstalled and re-installed SPD 2013
Due to issues with a workflow on the site I am in contact with MS Support who are aware of this issue, they sent me a link to a hot fix that was already installed but they have no concrete idea of what might be going on.
I was convinced that it was an issue on my machine, but I don't know what the issues that I have seen on the 32 bit SPD on the new laptop mean.
I have been searching the internet for a fix with no success, I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Mick

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that SharePoint Designer 2013 cannot access workflows in Office 365 Site.
There was an issue recently when a service release was implemented that incremented the version number in the HTML header on some SharePoint online sites to '16' when SPD was expecting '15'.
I suggest to install internet explore 10 and install a patch for IE10. Then test with "open with windows explore" then opened in SPD from sharepoint online.
In addition, I suggest that in SPD go to Account > Switch Account and type in the credentials of the site you are trying to open (it defaults to your Microsoft Login).
If the issue persists, to troubleshoot this issue, you can uninstall all versions of SharePoint Designer on workstation, clear cache and then reinstalling the latest SharePoint Designer. For the detailed information, you can refer to the

  • Quantifying "NULL" in Sharepoint Designer 2013

I am a bit new to Sharepoint Workflows and development so this could be an easy question but, I am trying to figure out how to quantify NULL as a value I am looking for in an If statement.
The purpose of the workflow is to notify a user when he/she had been assigned a task. However, I found an issue with my original workflow in that if there was no one assigned to the task, the workflow would loop and fail and I would have to stop the workflow.
So I am now trying to figure out a catch for this. What I am trying now is this. Notice the "" part is not valid and that is what I need help with.
Set Variable:assignedTO to Current Item:Assigned To //Sets an Workflow variable assignedTo to whatever is in the field 'Assigned To'
    If Variable: assignedTo equals ""
Email Current Item: Created By //Emails whoever created the task if the task is set to unassigned
If Variable: assignedTo not equals ""
Email Current Item:Assigned To //Emails the assigned person the correct email if the task is assigned.
and then the workflow continues on its merry way until the task is completed. The "" part is what I am having trouble with. Sharepoint doesn't seem to acknowledge blank strings or values in SP 2013 and the new SP Online. I did some searching and
could not find a very simple or intuitive way to get past this.
Your help in this matter would be greatly apprecated. Thank you.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to quantify "NULL" in SharePoint Designer 2013.
In SharePoint Designer 2013, if you select ‘Assign to’ column in the condition, you can only select ‘equals’ or ‘not equals’. However, if you select String type value in the condition, you can select ‘is empty’.
You need to create a String type workflow variable, then create workflow as below:
Then if the ‘Assign to’ column quantify "NULL", the workflow will log ‘1’.
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • SharePoint Designer 2013 does not load working workflows in design view

    Hello,
I would like to share with you a strange thing that happens to me with Sharepoint Designer 2013.
I designed two list workflows with SPD 2013 for a Sharepoint Online platform.
Both workflows works in the engine as designed, but sometimes happens that in SPD they just don't open in the designer view, even if they do not give errors in the execution view
The error message is that Sharepoint Designer has encountered an error and needs to be restarted. (Obviously restarting does not solve).
Sometimes happens also that the workflows opens but blank, with no steps.
Since this is an online platform, I can't consult logs.
I am thinking to open a ticket with Microsoft, but I would like also to ask to the community if someone encountered this and can suggest a way to troubleshoot what happened and why.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the workflow cannot be opened in SharePoint Designer and sometimes it opened with no steps.
Did this issue occur with other workflows and did it occur often with the same workflow?
I recommend to uninstall SharePoint Designer, delete all the files in the three locations below:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SharePoint Designer\ProxyAssemblyCache
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
After that reboot the client and re-install SharePoint Designer 2013 with the latest updates packaged to see if the issue still occurs.
If the issue still occurs with the same workflow, it may be caused by a known issue or by manual manipulation of the XAML in
    SharePoint Designer 2013 that can
corrupt the workflow, then we need to recreate the workflow.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Cannot install SharePoint Designer 2013

I have been trying to install SharePoint Designer 2013 and get the following message:
Microsoft Office 2013 does not support upgrading from a preview version of Microsoft Office 2013. You must first uninstall these preview versions of Microsoft Office 2013 products and associated technologies.
    Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013
I do not have the Preview version of Office 2013 installed, nor did I ever.  I previously had a fully licensed version of Office 2010 which I have recently upgraded to version 2013 (fully licensed).  I have tried this install on 3 different computers,
all with the same results.  I have tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit version of both Office and SharePoint Designer.
Searching for answers online suggested removing some entries from the registry, but I don't have any of those entries.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products0005102110000000100000000F01FEC or any other keys starting with 0005102...
Any help is appreciated as I cannot do anything at this point.

    Hi,
Base on the description, you want to fail to install SharePoint Designer 2013 when the office 2013 of fully licensed has been installed, but I’m not very clear about the version of the SharePoint Designer 2013 you want to install.
If you want to install a preview version of SharePoint Designer 2013, I suggest you to download other versions because the preview version of SharePoint Designer 2013 is not
    compatible with
the fully licensed version of Office 2013.
If you want to install other version of SharePoint Designer 2013, I suggest you to remove entries from the registry, following these steps:
    1. Open regedit.exe (Run -> regedit -> Enter)
    2. Find and delete the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\00005102110000000100000000F01FEC
Note: if you can't find the above key, just find the key with prefix: 00005102, and suffix: F01FEC, and delete it. (Before deleting it, backup this key by exporting it).
Enjoy SharePoint Designer 2013 RTM now.

  • Problem logging into SharePoint Designer 2013 were could previously

I am having trouble logging into my SharePoint Designer 2013 since I tried to sign in to sharepoint designer with a test account. My sharepoint administrator said I have all the permissions that I need.
To solve the problem, I want to follow the directions in the link listed below:
You cannot switch the user account in SharePoint Designer 2013
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2738178
When the spedesign.exe asks me to log on with a different user accout, it wants the crendtials of domain name and passsword.
I enter the domain name that looks like domainname\username with the password. I am using the domain name that is assigned to my computer. The logon does not recognize me.
My company is using sharepoint in the cloud. Thus would my domain be the sharepoint https location that my company is using?
When I log into the cloud, I use an email address.
Thus do you have any suggestions on what is wrong and how I should enter the logon in?
What do you suggest that I try next?

    Hi wendy,
You can switch the user account with a domain user in SharePoint Desinger 2013 . Once  log on, please go to Account -> Connected Services -> Add a service -> Storage -> Office 365 SharePoint, then input your Office 365 crendtial
and you can  open your SharePoint Online using SharePoint Designer.

  • How do I apply conditional formatting using SharePoint Designer 2013?

I'm attempting to apply Conditional Formatting to a list view web part via SharePoint Designer 2013, and I can't seem to find the option to do so.
I've a horrible feeling I'm just being daft, but here's what I've done so far:
    - Created a new page (I've tried both web part and wiki)
    - Added a list "App part" and saved the page
    - Checked-out and opened the page via Designer
    - Clicked the "Edit file" option
    - Selected the XsltListViewWebPart tag
So far I can't find any options to add it. If I open the Conditional Formatting pane via the View menu it tells me the following:
    > To use conditional formatting, select an HTML tag, data value, or
    > range of text, and then click Create to specify formatting options.
I've tried selecting the web part tags in all manner of combinations with no luck. In previous version I would have simply selected the previewed data rows in the now-absent Preview pane.
    Am I missing something?

Create and edit a Wiki Page
Click Inset > Data View and Select “Empty Data View”
Click Inside the <DataSources> tags </DataSources>
Click Insert > Data Source “Your Data Source Name”
Hold down Ctrl button and select the Rows in the order you want them to appear from your “Data Source Details” Window.
After the Rows are selected click on the drop down “Insert Selected Fields as…” at the top of the “Data Source Details” Window.
Select “Multiple Item View” option (This will create the xsl where we need to add the conditional formatting to)
Find the <tr> tag that contains the Row Data.  Insert the following right below the <tr> tag:
    <xsl:attribute name="style">
    <xsl:if test="@FieldName = 'Something'">background-color: #FF0000;</xsl:if>
    </xsl:attribute>
I hope this helps.  I figured this out by using the old 2010 Designer to figure out the where to place the code and how to do this.

Now i want to create one form with the fields A,C,E.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to update the list item in the same sharepoint list with particular condition with Sharepoint Designer 2013.
I recommend to create workflow associated to the list and then start the workflow automatically when an item is changed.
In the workflow, you can add condition and actions as below:
If current item: C equal to Test1
         Set E to Test2
Then the value of the filed E will be changed based on the value of the filed C.
In addition, if you create the form using InfoPath, you can add rule to the filed C as below:

  • Can't install the sharepoint designer 2013 (32 or 64 bits) because of the "Office 15 click-to-run extensibility component"

    Hi there,
    I have a problem installing sharepoint designer 2013 which I downloaded .
When I try to install the 64 bits installation program it it comes up with a popup that there are 32 bits programs found on my laptop. (Office 15 click-to-run extensibility component)
When I try to install the 32 bits program of sharepoint designer it gives the same popup only that it found a 64 bits office program (Office 15 click-to-run extensibility component).
What can I do to resolve this strange problem?
I have a windows 8.1 laptop and use office as part of office 365.

    Hi GerritAikema,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you installed SharePoint 2013 Designer 64-bit.
Please uninstall the Office 15 Click-to-Run Extensibility component, then install SharePoint 2013 Designer 64-bit, compare the result.
