SharePoint Online - "Unable to connect to remote server"

Hi,
I have a Provider Hosted App which gets the data from a different site collection. Now, when i try to connect to a different site collection, the TokenHelper
class gives me an error -  "Unable to connect to remote server".
The error is thrown in the below line:
acsMetadata = webClient.DownloadData(acsMetadataEndpointUrlWithRealm);
The above error is not thrown always. It throws occasionally. I am not getting the reason for this. Could anybody explain what is the problem, please?

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the error "Unable to connect to remote server" occurs in the WebClient.DownloadData Function.
As this error throws occasionally, it should be related to the network issue, for a better troubleshooting, I suggest you can check the detailed error message using Fiddler.
Fiddler
Thanks

  • SSRS 2008 - Unable to connect to remote server

    Win2k3 R2 SP2/SQL Server 2008 instance with SSRS/Visual Studio 2008
    I installed SQL 2008 and SSRS with native mode default configuration.
    All SQL 2008 services are running under "NT Authority\Network Service" account.
    When i try to deploy a new report, I get the "Unable to connect to remote server" error.
    The deploy operation creates empty folders on the web server (hosted by the SQL Server 2008 service)
    for e.g.
    my instance name is <machinename>$sql2008. i configured the WebService URL and the Reports Manager URL to port 85
    the deploy from VS creates ssrs2008Test folder and a Shared Data Sources folder in the following virtual directory
      - Report Manager URL: http://<machinename>:85/Reports_SQL2008/
      - Web Service URL: http://<machinename>:85/ReportServer_SQL2008
    however these folders are empty w/ no .rdl or .rds file. and i get the "Unable to connect to remote server"  error in Visual Studio 2008 when i deploy it.
    is there something else i have to tweak in either the SQL Server/SSRS Configuration Manager or the Windows Server Settings(like port settings or group policy) to get the reports to work?
    thanks

    Don't Retire Technet

    Hi Clayman
    Well it makes sense to me that the registry could help, checking the lines in the error code, it appears that the for some reason the server could not stablish a connection, the error states: because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue
    was full.
    It seems don't make sence untill you have a look at Socket Class (MSDN article), which say: The Socket class provides a rich set of methods and properties for network communications. The Socket class allows you to perform both synchronous and asynchronous data
    transfer using any of the communication protocols listed in the ProtocolType
    Checking also the HttpWebRequest Class, we can see the it also relays on Socket Class, as it says by the end of your exception:
    [at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketInternal(Boolean connectFailure, Socket s4, Socket s6, Socket& socket, IPAddress& address, ConnectSocketState state, IAsyncResult asyncResult, Int32 timeout, Exception& exception)]
    I also don't know if you could reboot your machine, but it would be good.
    Also I really think its worthy a try, as not much information can befound on this EWS issue.

  • Cannot open Report Manager URL -- "Unable to Connect to Remote Server"

    Hi,
    I have recently installed SSRS 2012 on my remote server (Native Mode). I had the default configurations set except for the port has been changed to "8081". I created an Inbound Rule in Firewall to make sure it's enabled.
    I'm unable to connect to the report manager locally at all, I got a Domain\username authentication and the credentials are never accepted locally.  I tried accessing my report server using the remote server host name and I was successfully logged in,
    however,  I got a message "Unable to Connect to the remote server".
    I checked the log folder and there was no files created for my unsuccessful login.
    I've been stumbling with this issue for almost a week, Any ideas or suggestions ?

    Hi SB User,
    Per my understanding that after you change the IP to "8081" then you can't connect to the report server both locally and remotely, right?
    Is that mean before you have changed the IP, everything works fine and did you got some pop up window ask for credential when you connect to the report server?
    You issue can be caused by many factors, please try to check details information below and do some configurations:
    Go to Reporting Services Configuration Manager and change the account to "Network Service" to see if it will works fine.
    Change the account to domain account and re-enter the username and password to see if it works fine.
    Remove the SSL if configured.
    Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\rsreportserver.config
    In rsreportserver.config Change the SecureConnectionLevel value to "0":
    <Add Key="SecureConnectionLevel" Value="0"/>
    Stop and restart the report services instance to see if you can connect to report server.
    please also Using IP instead of computer name as the <servername> in the URL to have a test.
    If your issue still exists, please try to change the IP to have a test.
    If you still have any problem,please fee free to ask.

  • [Forum FAQ] "Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell Remoting" error while installing RDS roles on Server 2012 R2

    When you try to install RDS role on server 2012 R2 using standard deployment, this issue may occur (Figure 1).
    “Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting”.
    Figure 1: Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting
    First of all, we need to verify the configurations as it suggested:
    1. The server must be available by using Windows PowerShell remotely.
    2. The server must be joined to a domain.
    3. The server must be running at least Windows Server 2012 R2.
    4. The currently logged on user must be a member of the local Administrators group on the server.
    5. Remote Desktop Services connections must be enabled by using Group Policy.
    In addition, we need to check if the “Windows Remote Management “service is running and related firewall exceptions have been created for WinRM listener.
    To enabling PowerShell remoting, we can run this PowerShell command as administrator (Figure 2).
    Enable-PSRemoting -Force
    Figure 2: Enable PowerShell Remoting
    However, if issue persists, we need to check whether it has enough memory to work.
    By default, remote shell allots only 150 MB of memory. If we have IIS or SharePoint App pool, 150 MB of memory is not sufficient to perform the remoting task. Therefore, we need to increase
    the memory via the PowerShell command below:
    Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Shell\MaxMemoryPerShellMB 1000
    Then, you need to restart the server and the issue should be resolved.
    You can get more information regarding Remote Troubleshooting by below link:

    i found another possible reason, this solution worked for me:
    http://oyvindnilsen.com/solution-for-powershell-remoting-error-it-cannot-determine-the-content-type-of-the-http-response-from-the-destination-computer/
    I tried to set up powershell remoting on a server and kept getting this error:
    Enter-PSSession : Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cann
    ot process the request. It cannot determine the content type of the HTTP response from the destination comput
    er. The content type is absent or invalid. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help to
    pic.
    After a bit of troubleshooting I discovered that the problem was that the authentication packets was to big (over 16k), this will cause WinRM to reject the request. The reason for authentication packets getting too big can be because the user is member of very
    many security groups or in my case because of the SidHistory attribute.
    The solution was to increase the MaxFieldLength and MaxRequestBytes keys in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\HTTP\Parameters
    If the keys does not exists you can create them, be sure to use the DWORD type.
    I sat MaxFieldLength to DEC value 40000 and MaxRequestBytes to DEC value 32768 and rebooted the server. Problem solved.

  • Sharepoint Integrated SQL Reporting - Unable to connect to the server that is specified......

    This is driving me crazy.  I have Reporting services implemented on several sites in Sharepoint.  For some reason just one site refuses to work.  I see all the features are there.  I can create data sources.
    When I try to create a report I get :
    "Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL,
    http://help.site.  Make sure that the server is running, the URL is correct, and you have permission to use the server"
    I'm using my domain admin account, I know know this works on every other site.  I know I haven't forgotten the general setup of the service.
    The only difference is this site allows "anonymous" connections.  Has anyone heard of an issue about using anon and reporting services?  Either way I authenticate before I login but that doesn't have an effect.

  • Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G(on 64 bit Linux box)

    We are unable to connect to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G which is on 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
    Infrastructure: OBIEE 11.1.1.5 64bit, on 64 bit Red Hat Linux Enterprise Linux 5.6 , MS SQL Server 2008 on 64 bit Microsoft Windows Server
    Issue Description: Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE11G RPD
    Details: We are unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE which is on a 64 bit Linux box. We created the ODBC connection on Linux box to the SQL server. Whenever we try to import metadata it throws an error that says ‘Connection Failed’.
    Here are the steps we followed to setup the ODBC connection on Linux box.
    1) We updated the user.sh file with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64 values that point to $ORACLE_HOME/bifoundation/odbc/lib
    This is where we found the driver for SQL server SEmsss23.so.
    2) We updated the odbc.ini file with the entry for SQL server with the connection details
    SI_SQL_Server_DEV = SQL Server
    [SI_SQL_Server_DEV]
    Driver=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/odbc/lib/SEmsss23.so
    Description=DataDirect 5.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol
    Address=10.230.216.52,54970
    AlternateServers=
    AnsiNPW=Yes
    ConnectionRetryCount=0
    ConnectionRetryDelay=3
    Database=SVBDW_NEW
    LoadBalancing=0
    LogonID=SIDatavalidation
    Password=~~~Password123
    QuoteID=No
    ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
    3) We updated the IDENTIFIER_QUOTE_CHAR with single quotes instead of double quotes in the DB features of the RPD
    4) We updated the bash_profile file to point the ODBCINI variable to the path where the OBIEE odbc.ini file is present.
    Export ODBCINI=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/odbc.ini
    The error in nqsserver.log file says “[nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: IM002 code: 0 message: [DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.”

    Hi,
    Make sure SQL Configuration Manager make sure the TCP/IP enabled. please try below method
    Method 1
    Re Create a new ODBC & Oracle Bi Server DSN Configuration test it and use it in the connection pools.
    define your ODBC data source in your server where the BI Server is installed. Check your DB connections in your physical layer and make they are defined on your BI Server as well.
    Method 2:
    try using the complete TNS in below format in the datasource name section:
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST =DB IP)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL) ) and provide the credentials.
    Method 3:
    To use the OCI call interface you need to have oracle client DB to be installed so that you can establish a connection using that DB credentials and connect to the remote dB and then import the tables.....this is the rule of thumb.
    hope helps you.
    Thanks

  • HTTP Response :500 unable to connect to remote system.

    Hi,
    I am doing proxy-xi-file scenario, where i am getting this error in sxmb_moni in R/3.
    The error reads with red flag:
    HTTP Response :500 unable to connect to remote system.
    Please  tell me what can be the reason.

    Snehal,
    Error: The error message 503 Service unavailable Application stopped! is displayed.
    Description: The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay MAY be indicated in a Retry-After header. If no Retry-After is given, the client SHOULD handle the response as it would for a 500 response.
    Note: The existence of the 503 status code does not imply that a server must use it when becoming overloaded. Some servers may wish to simply refuse the connection.
    Possible Tips: Because of J2EE application com.sap.aii.af.ms.app not active
    • Try to (re)start the application using the Visual Administrator Choose Server --> Services --> Deploy --> View on Application or restart the J2EE engine
    • The problem is that not all J2EE services can be started by the J2EE. i.e Start the Visual Administrator and select Server->Services->Deploy in the tree on the left. On the right-hand side, choose the Runtime tab page. You see a tree in the right window with all applications if you select the APPLICATION radio button. Check if they are running, otherwise choose Start. Usually the J2EE engine starts all services automatically.

  • Xcode - Unable to Connect to Remote Repository

    I have a mac mini running OS X Server 4 on Yosemite 10.10.1 and I am trying to set up the Xcode server to host my repositories.
    On my development machine, when I try to create a project on the remote server, or when I try to push to the server I get the error..
    "Unable to Connect to Remote Repository
    Could not connect to the remote repository because the server was unreachable. Verify the server is running and try again."
    My machine knows that the remote server is there and alive.  I am able to add the server in Xcode preferences without any problem.
    I can even pull projects that were already on the server.  But anything new I cannot push or create.
    All the other services I use on the server are working.  Hosting a website, Screen sharing and I can SSH into it without any problem.
    The strangest part is that when I get the error about being unable to connect, the project I am trying to push actually does show up on the server.
    The project shows up on the server in the Repositories.  Just my development machine doesn't know it.
    Its driving me nuts, can anyone offer any ideas?

         You said you had SSH access working so this may be a different issue.  I was able to ssh into my server only with my admin account which made me think that ssh was working, but it turns out it wasn't for all user accounts.   I had the same error message and it turned out I could not ssh into the server with my developer accounts.  If I tried to clone a local repository to the server I got the same error, however the repository was actually create, but it was empty.   For reasons that don't matter to this discussion I originally setup all my users as "local network users" with no "Home Folder".  And that was the problem.  Basically ssh won't allow you to login without a home directory.
         I had to go back and add a "Home Folder" of  "Local Only" for those users who were going to have xCode access.  Once the "home" directory was created I could login via ssh on those accounts AND creating and cloning repositories through xCode worked fine. The admin account that I was able to login with already had a home directory and wasn't a network user.
    Your issue slightly different even though I got the same error message, so not sure if this will solve your issue or not.  But on the off  chance that it is the same issue,   I figured I would post my solution to my problem.  ymmv
    P.S. I did turn off websites on my server and haven't turned it back on yet, so not sure if that will be a problem if I turn it back on.

    unable to connect to express server on MDW for one of the following reason.
    the specified computer is unreachable or does not exist
    the express instance installed on the specified computer is not running
    the express instance identifier(UUID) specified is invalid.
    ------

    Hi,
    From note 243511.1 on metalink.
    Correct the "Port Number" in Application Manager-Database Setup. This
    value is the RoListenPortNumber setting in Express Instance Manager, Parameters-
    Identifiers-More.
    In thin client mode, the "Port Number" number is only available with
    the RPC Protocol: Remote Operations (ora_ro_tcp).
    Thanks

  • Error calling report FRM-41213 unable to connect to Report Server

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle Database 10g R2 and Oracle Developer 10gR2.
    I installed it in both Windows 2000 SP4 and Windows XP SP2.
    I would like to call a Report using a button inside Oracle Form.
    I create my own Report Server, using : rwserver server=repsrv
    A Java-based window appear OracleAS Reports Sevice, and showed that repsrv is ready.
    In Form (inside a button -> WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED) :
    1. Using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT()
       rep_id := find_report_object('REPORT10');
         if not id_null(rep_id) then
           v_rep := run_report_object(rep_id);
         else
              message('Null');
       end if;
       a. If I did not specify the name of the Report Server in Reports node of Form's property object
    (I leave it blank)
    The following error appear :
    FRM-41211: Integration error, SSL failure running another product
    b. If I specify the name of the Report Server : repsrv
    The following error appear :
    FRM-41213: Unable to connect to Reports Server repsrv
    2. Using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT()
    a. If did not I specify the server name in the parameter
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'|| SUBSTR(v_rep,INSTR(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||,'_blank');Another web browser appear and the following error appear :
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
    b. If I specify the server name in the parameter --> server='repsrv'
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'|| SUBSTR(v_rep,INSTR(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server=repsrv','_blank');Another web browser appear and the following error appear :
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server repsrv failed
    In Report :
    If I try to navigate manually to :
    1. http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet using web browser.
    It showed OracleAS Report Services - Servlet Command Help page.
    2. http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet?userid=scott/tiger@orcl&report=D:\PRACTICE\FORM\MODULE1.JSP&destype=cache&desformat=html
    The following error occured
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
    3. Finally,
    http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet?server=REPSRV&userid=scott/tiger@orcl&report=C:\PRACTICE\FORM\MODULE1.JSP&destype=cache&desformat=html
    The following error occured
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server repsrv failed
    4. Any attempt to different command (i.e showenv, showjobs, etc) seems failed
    If I did not specify the server then REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
    If I specify the server - 'repsrv' then REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server repsrv failed
    5. I have tried to use rwrun in command line.
    rwrun report="D:\My Documents\form\module1.jsp" userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=file desformat=pdf desname="D:\My Documents\form\module2.pdf"
    The PDF file created and it looks exactly as the web layout as in Oracle Report Builder (Run Web Layout CTRL-R)
    Question :
    1. What supposed to be done?
    The Report server is ready, but the web browser seems unable to connect to Report Server.
    2. Can we used or call or executed an executable command line from Form (using PL/SQL inside button)?
    Any help would be grateful.
    Many thanks,
    Buntoro

    Hi,
    Problem solved.
    I got the solution from another post.
    Re: REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep failed
    Here are the step I did.
    Note : Please make backup for the following file : rwnetwork.conf
    - In file rwnetwork.conf, remove or commented the following
    <multicast channel="228.5.6.7" port="14021" timeout="1000" retry="3"/>
    - And then uncommented
    <namingService name="Cos" host="%NAMING_HOST%" port="%NAMING_PORT%"/>
    - replace the
    %NAMING_HOST% with your computer name or specify an IP address
    %NAMING_PORT% with 14021
    It should look like this :
    <namingService name="Cos" host="blahblah" port="14021"/>
    - I did not change the : name="Cos", since I do not understand what does it for
    - Save you changes.
    - Start the OC4J.
    - Find the location of : namingservice.bat (on Windows platform)
    - execute in the command line : namingservice.bat 14021
    - finally start the report in the web browser
    Note:
    To shutdown the namingservice, use : namingservice.bat 14021 shutdown
    Regards.

    Hi everyone,
    I'm running into an annoying issue with samba. I don't have any printers installed, and probably won't. However smbd complains to no end in /var/log/errors.log about not being able to connect to a cups server:

    Those last two lines get spammed constantly.
    I've done a little bit of research into the matter, and followed the steps here to try to resolve the problem: http://www.davekb.com/browse_computer_t … server:txt
    Unfortunately it doesn't appear to make any difference.
    Here is my /etc/samba/smb.conf:
    # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
    # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
    # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too
    # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
    # For a step to step guide on installing, configuring and using samba,
    # read the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. This may be obtained from:
    # http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.pdf
    # Many working examples of smb.conf files can be found in the
    # Samba-Guide which is generated daily and can be downloaded from:
    # http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-Guide.pdf
    # Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
    # is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
    # for commentry and a ; for parts of the config file that you
    # may wish to enable
    # NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command "testparm"
    # to check that you have not made any basic syntactic errors.

    glad you posted it first i had the same problem.
    However, samba was complaining that
    printing = none
    was invalid. I removed that line and it works great.
    thanks
