Hello Everyone
Can anybody quote the Technical difference between SharePoint online vs SharePoint (2013)on premise.
Under which circumstances both should be opted for ?

Hybrid Search not working from SharePoint 2013 Online to SharePoint On-premise
Hi,
I have setup a SharePoint 2013 Hybrid environment setup with the following –
Windows Server 2012 R2
SharePoint Server 2013 with April 2014 CU
SQL Server 2014
ADFS 3.0 using SSO with Web proxy and DirSync
SharePoint 2013 Online tenant on Office 365 Enterprise Subscription
I have configured the Hybrid following the article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj838715(v=office.15).aspx and configured Hybrid Search. The hybrid environment was working fine including Search both ways initially
but after upgrade to April CU 2014 (along with upgrade to SQL 2014 from SQL 2012), now search from SharePoint online to SharePoint in-Premise is not working anymore.
I am still able login with the federated IDs in both the environments and get results from SharePoint Online in SharePoint in-Premise environment.
I have already tried most of the troubleshooting steps mentioned at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn518363(v=office.15).aspx
Now every time, we perform a search in our SharePoint Online site, which is configured to show hybrid results from SharePoint in-premise, we don’t get results from in-premise and instead we see the following error logged in SharePoint
In-premise Web Server –
Error - An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: Exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' was thrown. Parameter name: value.
And ULS log shows the following – Even though the message seems apparent that there could be duplicate users in user profile Application, but that’s not the case. There are just 2 unique users added there.

Any ideas?
Anupam ShrivastavaI am experiencing the same issue. Don't have the answer yet about what's wrong exactly. And my SSO works fine too.
I know precisely what makes the SharePoint throw the ArgumentException, but I can't yet figure out how to influence this behavior. I will respond back if I find out, but I hope the following will create an "aha moment" for someone.
So the SP Online issues an OAuth request to the on-prem SharePoint. If verbose logging is on for the Claims category, you may see how it reads these claims. One of them is this:
Claim['nii':'urn:federation:microsoftonline']
Using this claim and the nameid claim the profile mapping logic then reports the following immediately before the error (Set User Profiles to verbose to see this):
Creating encoded sid for nameid '100300008b29cb02' and nameidissuer 'urn:federation:microsoftonline'
Inspecting this logic with Reflector, I can see that it then attempts to infer the identity provider type from the nameidissuer, and throws the exception, because "federation" is not what it expects. It expects either "windows", "trusted" or "forms" for
the provider type.
So the user's actions to lead to this error were as follows:
1. I connect to the Office 365 portal, and get redirected to my ADFS server (same domain for the ADFS server, on-prem SharePoint, and the user accounts).
2. I log on, and from the SP Online portal I issue my search query using a result source configured as per the Hybrid TechNet guidance.
So thanks in advance for any suggestions, on what it could be. -
Form and Workflow in SharePoint Online vs SharePoint On-Premise
Hi Expert,
I have the question about Form and Workflow in SharePoint Online vs ShrePoint On-Premise
Current Problem : Customer is implemented Form and Workflow in SharePoint Online but they have a problem some features that didn’t work in SharePoint Online. I will have a meeting to discuss Do and Don’t Form and Workflow in SharePoint Online compare SharePoint
On-Premise.
Please suggestion.
Thank youHi MasterBird,
For SharePoint 2013 On-premise, we can :
Comlete control of our environment and data
Supports heavy customization
Keep sensitive information in-house
Easier integration into line of business systems
Full development options for developers
For SharePoint Online workflow:
Workflow 2010 & 2013 are available with Standard and Enterprise Editions without having to install
If using Windows Azure workflow functionality is the same as 2013
Cannot create custom Visual Studio workflows
For InfoPath Form Services you will need Office 365 Enterprise Could Edition or SharePoint Online Plan 2

How can I copy documents from a Sharepoint On Premises library to a Sharepoint Online library and at the same time preserving their metadata?
I use the Open Explorer Windows to drag and drop the files, but the metadata are not copied. Thanks. To maintain the metadata you'll need to use one of the third party tools that does this kind of migration. Metalogix has a product with a free trial that we have used before. (Don't remember whether the free version maintains metadata or not).
You can read about it here:

SharePoint On Premises – AZURE RMS issue
SharePoint On Premises – AZURE RMS issue. Our SharePoint plat form is on premises and wanted to take AZURE RMS ISSUE to make workable in On premises SharePoint site.
Based on the below blogs I have configured all the specified in those. I am getting below at the final stage. Please help me with the same.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn375964.aspx
http://blog.hametbenoit.info/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=639
I am trying with my corporate AD account and logging into SharePoint site, getting below popup. in this screen, I am getting blank word whate ever I click with it is change user option or yes option or no option
Thanks, Ram ChHi Ram,
The RMS connector communicates with Azure RMS by invoking REST service, so it doesn't need to be exposed to internet, but it must be able to reach internet. Based on the screenshot
information, it sounds that you haven't verified your domain in Office 365. For example, your AD users have UPN with suffix @consotos.com, the domain name contoso.com should be added into Domains of your Office 365 tenant, and verify it. This is to keep the
consistency of your users' on-premises credential and online credential, otherwise, your users will by synced to Office 365 with the default domain "tenantname.onmicrosoft.com", such as the current situation. In fact it has been already mentioned
in the article included in your first post. See the information below:
(from
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh967642.aspx)
Caution
You must add and verify your company’s domains in order to use them in Azure Active Directory and Office 365. For more information, see
Add your custom domain to the Azure AD tenant and
Verify a domain.
Meanwhile, to experience Azure RMS, I highly recommend you to implement single sign-on, otherwise, your users will be prompt for credentials before they can get access to the protected content.
Thanks,
Reken Liu

How to provision site collection using CSOM in SharePoint on premise
Hi,
I need to create site collection using CSOM in SharePoint on premise.
Most of the forums discuss on provisioning site collection in SharePoint online and that does not work in on premises.
Is it possible to provision site collection using CSOM in on premise?
Kindly, share some reference to accomplish this.
Thanks in advance,
DhijitHi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a site collection using Client Object Model in SharePoint on-premise environment.
One option is that you can follow the article below to create the site collection with CSOM.
Provisioning site collections using SP App model in on-premises with just CSOM
Another option, I suggest you can use admin web service for SharePoint 2013 to create a site collection.
Here is a detailed article for your reference:
Admin.CreateSite method
Thanks

Hi
What are some of the reasons and/ or benefits that one may want to consider with regards to setting up and synchronizing Project Online with a on-Premise SQL database ?
\Spiro Theopoulos PMP, MCITP. Montreal, QC (Canada)Spiro,
Reporting via Project Online is limited to OData, and writing queries with OData starts getting complex at a certain point.
So, if your organization in using third party BI tools, or want to use OLAP cubes, or in general want to use straight SQL queries instead of oData, it is generally beneficial to have the data in house for reporting.
So in general, using the SQL Synchronization, will bring data into "your" organization, as opposed to being with Microsoft so you get a LOT more flexibility with reporting.
Hope this helps your question.

Migrating into a Hybrid SharePoint on premise and SharePoint Online
We currently have a SharePoint 2007 farm and are migrating to SharePoint 2013 on premise + SharePoint Online hybrid. FYI we are using AvePoint DocAve for this.
We are trying to get as much contents as possible into SharePoint Online and only keep the highly complex sites (eg, sites with complex workflows, custom web parts, full-trust infopath forms, email-enabled libraries) in SharePoint 2013 on-premise.
So the requirement is to 'split' a site collection in the source and move a portion of it to SharePoint Online, and the complex portion to SharePoint 2013 On-premise. For sizing guidance, the site collection I'm looking
at contains 400 subsites that is nested up to 4 levels deep.
Level 0 is the root site, Level 1 sites are the direct subsites of root site, Level 2 sites are direct subsites of Level 1 sites, and so on until Level 4 sites. We have conducted an analysis of these subsites individually and know whether they can go to
SPO or there are complexities that dictate they have to live in the On-premise world.
So question here is what is the best and recommended way to split this site collection and push as many sites as possible to SPO.Hi,
From your description, you would like to move subsites to another server and to be remained as subsites of original site, so that users will still have the same use experience as before. They will not feel the change for the migration. If
I misunderstood, please point it out.
Actually, site collection could not be splited to two locations. For your requirement, here is a workaround:
Move those sites to SPO as you expect.
Create a site collection on on-premise server in the place of Lv0.
Move the rest two site to step 2 site collection as two subsites.
Modify the navigation on both SPO and on-premise, make it appear to be as the old one. Create links to the sites on another server.

I agree with Nikhil, I think you have posted partial ULS log, we could not find effective errors for the issue.
For Provider Hosted app in SharePoint server on-premise,
the TokenHelper class will try to access your Azure Security Principle by default.
Did you have a valid Azure account?
If not, the issue may be caused that you don't have a valid account, to resolve this issue, you can use
a valid Azure account or not going to use Azure Platform for hosting the app as the article

Unable to import design package from O365 to SharePoint On Premises - Why ?
Hello,
Recently , I have added following site columns in "Article Page" content type in O365.
Page Content
Rollup Image
Article Date
Summary Links
Image Caption
Byline
And changed css for look and feel of left navigation menu.
After that, I have taken design package and tried to deploy on "On-Premise" plaform via design manager.
And I have received following error :
Feature definition with Id "XXX" failed validation, file ListInstances\ElementsContentType.xml'The 'AllowDeletion' attribute is not declared.
Would you please tell me - whats going wrong ? is that O365 update issue ? or something I made wrong ?
Thanks and Regards,
Dipti ChhatrapatiFor trying to answer for this thread ,
To replicated this on my environment,(Download the Design Package from my O365 and restoring it on my On-Premise environment)
I found the the new attribute "AllowDeletion=true" in which package downloaded from the O365.
In Visual studio, used the "Import Reusable Package" template and in Feature
definition file " deleted the allowdeletion attribute.
It started to work on
my environment. Please try it on your environment (on prem) and let us know the difference or result.
And also , I wanted
add my bit of notes, we should not test the Office 365 Package on onprem environment as it had different signatures and lot of new features those are very specific to O365 and Cloud apps.

Hi All,
The below will help if:
You have a hybrid setup and cannot see Free/Busy info from an On Premise user for anyone on Office 365 / Exchange Online.
You have your network firewall configured to allow your Exchange servers out through the proxy for O365/EXO url's
- Get hold of SysInternals PSEXEC from Microsoft.
Run PSEXEC -i -s C"\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" (This opens Internet Explorer as the SYSTEM account)
Goto Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings and untick the "Automatically Detect Settings"
Had this bouncing around at Microsoft for a few days until one of the guys tried this and it worked immediately.Forgot to mention, the PSEXEC command needs to be run as an Administrator
Run PSEXEC -i -s C"\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" (This opens Internet Explorer as the SYSTEM account)

What is sharepoint 2013 on premise and online
HI
what is sharepoint 2013 on premise and online
what is the concept in onpremises
adilThis is really basic stuff, have you searched for it at all? There is, quite literally, hundreds of articles on this such as:

SharePoint On-Premises is where you own the servers and install SharePoint on them and manage it. SharePoint online is where Microsoft own and run the hardware and give you a section of it to use. -

Hi,
Just needed clarification regarding One Drive for Business application on iPhone/iPad.
When I connect to internal corporate network, the application works fine. However when I go on external network, it gives an error that 'You are logged in but we can't access your settings'. Is there something I am missing? Same with One Drive for business
application for laptop.
It also works fine when I connect my iPhone/laptop on VPN.
We are using SharePoint 2013 (on premises installation). Do I need to get some subscription for business in order to get the app working over the internet? I know we need Office365 or sharepoint online in order to get the app working but it works fine when
I am connected to internal network or VPN.
We do have a public IP and URL for One Drive which works fine on any browser from external internet. So the problem is only limited to the application on Apple and Laptop (windows). We are using TMG.
Any info would be appreciated!
ThanksHi aso,
You may want to check the authentication types for SharePoint on-premise site internal and internet access, some authentication types are not supported, you can check if it is the case.

OneDrive for Business iPad App with on-premise SharePoint 2013
I don't know if this has more to do with OneDrive for Business or SharePoint 2013 itself.
Basically we are trying to log into OneDrive for Business on the iPad app but it says "Sorry, this app doesn't support this type of authentication"
We are using Claims Based Authentication with our On-premise SharePoint 2013 environment, which according to this table is a supported method: h**p://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-sharepoint-online-enterprise-help/use-the-onedrive-for-business-app-on-an-iphone-or-ipad-HA104005688.aspx#_Supported__authentication
We have tried different combinations of the username and url. Windows username, DOMAIN\username, email address, username@domain, etc. nothing seems to work.
Any ideas on how to fix this?according to office blog, it does support SharePoint on prem with following authentication(NTLM & FBA)
Introducing OneDrive for Business for iOS v1.2
Q. Does this announcement apply to customers who have deployed SharePoint 2013 on-premises?
A. Yes. The OneDrive for Business for iOS v1.2 app does support some SharePoint on-premises configurations (NTLM & FBA). We are committed to providing customers access to their OneDrive for Business in SharePoint 2013 on-premises. We also recently introduced
new capabilities in SharePoint 2013 SP1 to more seamlessly connect on-premises investments to OneDrive for Business in Office 365. More information to be shared at SharePoint Conference 2014 (March 3-6 in Las, Vegas); we will link to the relevant information
once it has been posted next week.
