SharePOint Security Updates/Bulletins?
By installing SharePoint 2013 Security Bulletins mean no need to install previous updates or do we need to install all old security bulletins as well?
Tariq Younas
Assumes by Security Bulletins you mean Service Pack or Cumulative update. In both the case no need to install previous ones.
In both the case you need to test it in non production to verify it wont affect any of your SharePoint systems.

SharePoint Security Bulletin same downloads......
This SharePoint Security Bulletin has 4 same download available on below site....which we should download?
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms14-050.aspxThere are versions for SharePoint Foundation, SharePoint Server, SharePoint Foundation SP1 and SharePoint Server Sp1. Pick the option that best describes your environment.
You shouldn't need to install the Foundation and Server patch for MS14, just the Server package should suffice. -
Security UPdate for sharepoint will change farm version?
Security Update for SharePoint will change farm version or not?
Not all security updates change the farm build #, but some do. It just depends on what is in the security update.

Latest SharePoint Security Bulletins installation will cover old one or not?
For SharePoint Security Bulleting installing latest one will cover all old patches or not. In below August 2014 is latest one.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms14-022.aspxHello,
I donc think that the security are cumulative but ,according to this post from stefan gobner
http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_gossner/archive/2014/07/10/common-question-on-hotfixes-security-updates-and-non-security-related-public-updates.aspx , it seems that the cumulative SharePoint contains the security updates, so if you keep you have the ltest
CU, you should have all the security fix released before

Office 2013: where the heck are the security updates hiding?
I built a deployment for Office 2013 yesterday. The source files were downloaded from Microsoft, with SP1 integrated. This is *not* a "Click to Run" deployment. I used the Office Customization Tool to make a few changes (we're
not using OneDrive, so that piece isn't getting installed. I disabled the "First Run" and Customer Experience stuff, and disabled RSS Feeds and SharePoint integration. And I put in our volume license key. Overall it's a pretty vanilla
build.)
I wanted to include all available security updates since SP1 has been released, and stick them into the "Updates" folder of my deployment. So after I installed Office 2013 x64 on my Windows 7 x64 system (the base package that I built installs
just fine), I went to Windows Update to see what was available. There is nothing there. I rebooted, and tried again. Still nothing. If I go into one of the Office 2013 apps, and go to File -> Account, I do *not* have any "Update"
buttons or options.
If I go to Windows Update in my Control Panel, and click "Change Settings", I have two things checked. "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates", and "Allow all users to install updates on this
computer." There are no other options to look for alternative Microsoft products, or at least no options that I can find. This is Windows 7 x64 SP1, fully patched.
I know that there have been security updates released for Office 2013 since SP1 came out in February 2014. I manually downloaded a security patch for Lync 2013, and installed that MSP onto this test system with no
issues. So there are applicable security updates out there. So why in the world can't I find the updates through the normal mechanisms? Ideally, we'd want for end users to be able to install security updates manually in an
emergency, but either I'm missing something, or that is not possible in Office 2013. Hopefully distributing Office 2013 updates through SCCM will work, but from what I'm seeing so far, I'm not sure the machines will be "detected" as having
Office 2013, because right now it can't even scan itself against Windows Update for that product.
Thanks for any input...I'm quite baffled at how the update routine is supposed to be functioning in Office 2013. I think the missing link is why I can't choose to search for "other" Microsoft products from the Windows Update panel.
The option/checkbox is totally gone.Hi,
By default Windows Update only updates Windows itself. To get updates for Office and for any other Microsoft products as well, you will need to upgrade your Windows Update to Microsoft Update.
On Windows Update panel, click "Find out more" link to install Microsoft Update.
Hope this helps.

How to install MSFT application security updates in cab file format using DISM
Hi,
I tried to install security updates for MS Office which are cab files like any other windows security updates cab file. It is giving an error called "file not found". But other windows security updates cab files are installing fine without any error.
I tried to install these updates manually using DISM on commandline. It is not installing. I even tried using pkgmgr.exe, but that is not working either. I looked at DISM logs which is saying it failed opening the cab file. I tried different other commandline
options of DISM to install this, but nothing else is suitable for a cab file install.
Does anyone know how to install a cab file for application security updates via DISM.exe or other MSFT commandline tools?
Thanks,
ANSA

System exception running Configuration Wizard after installing several security updates for SP
Greetings,
Have a 2 server farm, SharePoint 2013 SP1, SQL and SharePoint. Windows Update has 15 updates downloaded and ready to install, 2 Server 2012 updates and 2 SharePoint updates, 11 Security Updates for SharePoint. So, I said yeah, go ahead and install them late
last night when I figured it wouldn't interrupt folks. (dumb move)
Windows Update took awhile, but no errors during the install. Rebooted the server as required. Once the server was back, jumped onto the server console and ran the Configuration Wizard to apply the updates to SharePoint. No problem, progressed through the
screens saying it was going to update, farm and sql information, etc. Config Wizard was going through the steps, then failed with the message: "Failed to register SharePoint services." and here's a link to the configuration log so have a jolly time
tracking it down, thank you very much.
I found the error in the log (down about 10,000 lines):
04/10/2015 03:00:02 12 ERR Task services has failed with an unknown exception

So I've been searching around trying to find a clue about this. I tried using PSConfig as well, no dice. I tried using my admin account, the farm account, and the initial setup account, no dice. So I gave in about 3:00 AM and took a break, rather than have
my head hit the keyboard. Left IIS down and SP down. Had some help this morning when someone started things back up for me. sigh. So the users have been in on the sites and doing all sorts of important and critical things, so rolling back to the last
backup is the last, last resort. (Fortunately, I did do a manual backup using a PowerShell script before starting all this.)
Help. Please.
The actual sites are up and seem to be working fine. Central Admin is down though, get a 500 Internal Server Error in the browser, so things aren't correct. Duh. The config wizard didn't finish.
Thanks much,
Steven0x80131904 translates to COR_E_SqlException. Typically this will be an MDF/LDF file out of space, or the volume that those files reside on being out of space. Check that first, then also check the SQLERROR log file for any issues.

Domain Users AD group disappearing from SharePoint security
After applying SharePoint 2010 SP2 and the September 2014 cumulative update (KB 2883103) to our SP2010 farm, we've discovered the system is automatically removing the 'Domain Users' active
directory group from SharePoint security. It's not affecting any other AD groups or users or when Domain Users is a member of a SharePoint group. Only when Domain Users has been explicitly added to a site, library, list or document.
For example, we give Domain Users access to the root of most our site collections and then break inheritance for certain libraries or lists that need more security. Now Domain Users has disappeared from every site. I can say
with 100% confidence that this has not been done by anyone in the organization. Nothing else changed besides SP2 and Sept2014 CU.
Yesterday we fixed a few sites by re-adding Domain Users. This morning those were missing again, so it must be a timer job or other cleanup process that is causing this. Again, this does not affect SharePoint groups/membership or any other
AD object, only Domain Users.
Has anyone ran into this issue or have any suggestions on a resolution? We have enabled audit logging but have not seen any related logs yet.Sometime between noon and 1:00pm this afternoon we lost the Domain Users group again from all sites where we re-added it. Audit logging is showing this for one particular site:
{072c340a-42cb-4861-a182-38102b53bc52}
{072c340a-42cb-4861-a182-38102b53bc52}

Does anyone know if any additional logging can be enabled to see WHY this is occurring?
So far our solution has been to setup another AD security group and nest the domain users security group inside. Not exactly a solution but at least a work around. -
Need to download MS Malware Protection Engine / we use Security updates only in WSUS
we only do WSUS Security updates at work, and I need to MANUALLY download the update to MS Malware Protection Engine to get to version 1.1.10701.0. everything I find says windows update - can't do it. I need a URL to go to that has the definition

Security update for AIR 1.5 -- Mac PPC
Adobe Security Bulletin APSB10-16 indicates that AIR v2.0.2 and earlier need to be replaced, but since v2 only works on Mac Intel platforms, I need an update for v1.5.3. If not, what's the work-around? Uninstall AIR?
Hello,
Adobe has discontinued support for PowerPC-based computers and the Windows 2000 operating system on Adobe AIR 2 and will no longer provide security updates for Adobe AIR on these platforms. For full system requirement details, please see our AIR System Requirements page.
Customers are highly encouraged to stay on the latest AIR release available for their platform to ensure that they are on the most secure version available. For access to the last PowerPC supported runtime and SDK (AIR 1.5.3) please see our Archived Adobe AIR Runtime and SDK Versions page.
Thanks,

Secunia Software Inspector Reporting Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Update 1 Missing
After deploying Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Update 1 to all of our managed computers, I ran a vulnerability scan using Secunia Software Inspector (http://secunia.com/software_inspector) and it is reporting that Adobe Reader is insecure (it is version 8.1.0.137) and references Secunia advisory SA30832 (http://secunia.com/SA30832). Specifically it reports that C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe is version 8.1.0.137, which it is. However, running Adobe Reader and selecting Help \ About Adobe Reader 8... from the menu reports that Adobe Reader is version 8.1.2. And selecting Help \ Check for Updates... from the menu reports "There are no updates available at this time." Shavlik NetChk also does not report Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Update 1 as missing.
The security bulleting from Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb08-15.html) does not contain sufficient information to know if the security update has been correctly applied (there is no manifest of files with versions and dates to check).
It appears to me that the file C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe is not sufficient to determine the version of the installed Adobe Reader, that the update to Adobe Reader 8.1.2 does not update the version of this file, and that Adobe Security Update 1 does not update this file. Therefore, I suspect that Secunia Software Inspector is incorrectly reporting that Adobe Reader is vulnerable. However, without details from Adobe about what file are updated and what versions they should be, I cannot be sure.
How can I be sure that Adobe Reader is not vulnerable (it is fully up-to-date)?July 9 2008 When I run secunia inspector I am still getting a message that I have an earlier version of Adobe Reader installed though I have 8.1.2 including the security update for 8.1.2 installed. Here is what I get:
(quote)
This installation of Adobe Reader 8.x is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security threats!
The detected version installed on your system is 8.1.0.137, however, the latest secure version released by the vendor, fixing one or more vulnerabilities, is 8.1.2.215.
Update Instructions:
Update to Adobe Reader 8.1.2.215 and apply Security Update 1.

Hello,
I am attempting to get my pc to pass a Belarc test, However, It will not pass due to this error stating I need the following

My pc has the current version of 11,6,602,168 installed.
What do I need to do, please be specific for me
ThanksThank you for your response, that is what I believe as well, however it does not rectify the below screen shot. I have to have this cleared before I can work. Clearing or fixing it is my issue.
Can someone please help me with this? My job is on the line.

Flash Plug-in security updates
When there is a critical security patch update, I always see a link to download the latest Flash Player security update. But I do not see any specific link to security updates for Flash Player Plug-in for Other Browsers. Why is that? Does Flash Player security update download cover both the Active-X (IE) and Plug-in (Firefox and other browsers)? Perhaps I do not understand how Flash Player is related to the Active-X version and the Plug-in version. Thanks.
It's because the web page detects the browser being used and therefore displays the appropriate download. If you want to see what a website detects when you visit a page, go to this site: http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
I think it's fair to say that users of other browsers don't use IE very much. You still need it to go to the Windows Update site if you use Windows XP, but Vista/7 can update via Control Panel, so IE is superfluous in that environment. I still haven't installed Flash in IE myself yet.
Here's the latest Adobe bulletin for the Flash vulnerability in case it helps: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb12-05.html
