SharePoint "Use my local drafts folder" not to be displayed

Hi,
Is it possible to prevent SharePoint from displaying “Use
my local drafts folder” dialog box and
disable this option on default so users won't be able to store files locally?

I see a similar thread here - http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/f7e2ee0d-92ff-4bfe-95e7-1ba7b95514cc/disable-the-use-my-local-drafts-folder-option-in-sharepoint-2010-open-document-dialog-box?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
which mentions that You can not directly edit that dialog (it's an activex control client side). But you can set
group policy to modify the office client behavior

  • Error discarding checkout when 'Use my Local Draft folder' is checked

We are getting the error 'The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT 0x80070002)' when discarding checkouts in our production 2010 environment. Steps to repro are:
upload a file to a document library (OOB Shared Documents is fine)
check the document in the library view
    Choose 'check out'
Check 'Use my local drafts folder' when prompted, if it is not checked by default
Once checked out, check the box again and choose 'discard check out'
After the browser hangs for a bit, we get the error above.  We've reproed this on multiple machines, but mine is 64bit Windows 7 with IE 8.
Browsing to 'SharePoint Drafts' on the client machine confirms the file is present.  I suspected UAC or Protected Mode, based on similar issues posted online about SP 2007.  However, I've confirmed protected mode is off for this site, and it is
listed as 'Local Intranet', with the default settings for that zone.

    Hi danroot,
Please send the screenshot of the error into the forum.
What is your Internet Explorer’s version? Is it 32 bit or 64 bit?
If you use 32 bit, try to use Internet Explorer 64 bit, then check the effect.
Which account did you use to log into the client and SharePoint site? Are they the same account?
Make sure the account who log into the client has enough permission the “SharePoint drafts” folder.
Try to use another account to log into the SharePoint site, check the effect.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Missing "Use My Local Drafts Folder" Checkbox

We work with Office 2010 32 bit and SharePoint 2010. After we update the Lync to 2013 version, we find in SP at check out "Use My Local Drafts Folder" checkbox does not appear any more. I read this article
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/27e03f00-7549-4ca9-8973-9620ce40a78c/no-checkbox-appears-in-dialong-box-to-use-local-drafts-folder?forum=sharepointadminprevious, it said The “Use my local drafts  folder” functionality has
been removed for Office  2013. Actually we didn't install Word, Excel 2013.... But since Lync 2013 belongs to Office 2013 now, perhaps during install of Lync 2013 some office 2013 features or components have been also installed.
I need a workaround, because we don't plan to update to Office 2013 and SharePoint 2013. Can I uninstall some office 2013 components to active "Use My Local Drafts Folder" again?

I have found the solution. I uninstall the "Office Shared Features" and "Office Tools" from Lync 2013 and keep just Lync 2013 component. Then I have repaired the Office 2010. After that I see "My Local Drafts Folder"
again and Lync 2013 works also. Yeah :-)

  • Use my local drafts folder - Some Yes, Some No

    Hello,
I have recently upgraded to MOSS 2007.  When checking out a file some of my users get the prompt to use my local drafts folder and some do not.  Does anyone know why not all users are getting this prompt?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
If the program that you want to use to edit the file is compatible with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you may see a message that asks if you want to work with the file as a local draft. If you want to work on a copy of the file on your hard disk, leave the “Use my local drafts folder” check box selected. If you want the draft copy to be stored on the server while it is checked out to you, clear the check box.
If you are checking out a file that was created by a program that isn't compatible with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, the Use my local drafts folder check box does not appear and you cannot work with the file offline

  • No checkbox appears in dialong box to "use local drafts folder"

Using Windows 8.1, ,Word 2013, and IE 11.  When I edit a document from SharePoint Foundation 2010 (Hosted), no checkbox appears in the Microsoft Internet Explorer dialog box to "use local drafts folder".  As a result, no SharePoint
Drafts folder is created in the location specified under Word 2013 Save Option for offline editing and the SharePoint file is not downloaded locally.  I performed the following troubshooting steps below with no fix so far.
    1) Confirmed that "SharePoint OpenDocuments Class" is "enabled" as an add-on under IE.
    2) Confirmed that Word 2013 Save setting for offline editing are marked as follows:
Save checked-out files to “The server drafts location on this computer”
     Server draft location: \\users\xxxx\documents\SharePoint Drafts
    3) Tried the SharePoint checkout and editing on a Windows 7, IE 11, Word 2010 workstation and there was no issue.  Checkbox appears.
I've exhausted all resources.  Please assist with providing next steps. Unable to load a Screen shot below due to account validation critieria.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to display the “use local drafts folder”.
In Office 2013 it is by design.
    The “Use my local drafts
folder” functionality has been removed for Office
    2013.
This step has been done in order to improve the Client/Server communication by removing some of the redundant network calls generated by this process.
In order to get office files synchronized with SharePoint document libraries you could
    use SkyDrive Pro instead.
SkyDrive Pro is getting installed with Office 2013 but is available as a standalone setup as well.  But please note that SkyDrive Pro requires to have a SharePoint server
2013 installed or a O365 subscription, which brings SPO
    2013.
If you want to use the “use my local drafts folder”, you should install the Office 2010 instead of Office 2013.

While the steps below are fine for Word (and I gather that Excel, Powerpoint have similar steps), what
about Project 2007?  We have Project 2007 SP3, and (a) it doesn't have an Office Button like the core Office 2007 products, and (b) the SharePoint Local Drafts folder isn't listed in the Save options.  Please advise!
    -Joe
    Hi,
You can change the location of your local drafts folder where your files are placed while they are
checked out to you in Office system program: click “Microsoft Office Button”>select “Word Options”>select “Save”>in
Offline editing options for document management server files> in Server drafts location
box, type the location on your hard disk where you want to work with checked-out files, or click
    Browse and find the location.

  • Checking out Pdf files to Local draft Folder option no longer works after office 2013 installed.

Checking out Pdf files to Local draft Folder option no longer works after office 2013 installed.
    Summary :
We are using SharePoint 2010 Ent edition and users were able to checkout Pdf files similar to local drafts folder like any other office file without any problem when they used office 2010.
    i.e
Unfortunately ever since their machines upgraded with office 2013 recently , this functionality completely stopped working for PDF files. This has now become a big problem for the users when it comes to check out and replace PDF files.
All browser plugins required for this functionality (i.e    SharePoint OpenDocuments Class ) are all available and active. All document libraries are configured to Checkout is required for editing files. Browser version
used at the moment is IE9 (32 bit) version with windows 7.
Can anyone please help with this issue and any help to get away with this problem is much appreciated.

    Hi,
Based on your description, my understanding is that the PDF files cannot be checked out to local drafts folder after Office 2013 is installed.
Did this issue occur with Office files?
I recommend to check if the Office files can be checked out to local drafts folder with Office 2013.
And it is recommended to use Office 2010 with SharePoint 2010 for best practice.
    Thanks,
    Victoria

  • Mail - imap drafts folder not updating on server

I have my mail setup to LEAVE any mail draft in the drafts folder on the server. I used 3 different mac book pros and my draft messages are only appearing on the system where I 'drafted' them. In the past this was working.
All other foldrers are behaving as I would expect. How can I rectify this? Thanks.

That is in fact what is going on - a version of the draft is stored locally on my laptop for example in DRAFTS and when I try to access the 'drafts' on another system, the draft is in some IMAP draft folder.
Not exactly intutive but as long as they are stored that's what is important to me.

  • Draft Folder Not Saving Emails

I have a mobile Me account and I have my email syncing up to 3 computers. Ever since I got the 10.6 (the others are 10.5) if I make changes to an email in Mail, save it to the Draft folder, the email disappears within a day. I can still make changes to a draft email on the 10.5 systems and those seem to stick around. It is very annoying. What I often do, when I remember, is after saving the new emails, I minimize them into the dock and then when they disappear, I am able to resave them by opening up the minimized versions.

  • When I use Firefox to access jobs on local hospital website not all jobs displayed. Used IE and accessed all posted jobs. Could access all posted jobs with Firefox before hospital changed format. Could this be setting on my computer/Firefox?

I've been using Firefox for more than a year and prefer it to Internet Explorer. I'm unaware of any websites or information on a website that I've been unable to access with Firefox before this.
My question contains all the details. I don't know anything about the hospital's systems or website except that they used to have jobs listed under categories and now have a grid format. There are many more jobs posted and accessible through IE than Firefox.

Thanks for suggestion. I cleared everything, closed Firefox, rebooted and checked the website again with Firefox and IE. Results same as before. (I clear history, cache, etc. pretty regularly.) From what I can see the website looks the same with both browsers, except for difference in job postings. When I called hospital and asked about it, the HR person I spoke with seemed surprised that I had a problem. Local computer columnist is a big advocate for Firefox, but I've no idea how many people in local area use it, i.e. would see the problem and call to ask about it. For whatever it's worth, the program the hospital uses is from SPECTRUM Human Resource Systems Corporation.

  • Office 2013 vs SharePoint 2010 - Unable to check out documents to SharePoint drafts folder

My company is foisting Office 2013 on us without upgrading SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. One of the issues I have discovered since receiving Office 2013 is that SharePoint no longer provides the option to save checked out documents to my local drafts folder.
This is despite having Office set to save checked-out files to the server drafts location and the Office Document Cache Handler enabled in IE9. Is there a registry setting or something I can change that will re-enable this feature?

    Hi Nellie,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to re-enable the add-on Office Document Cache Handler in IE9.
We can re-enable the add-on in IE9 using Group Policy:
    Launch the Group Policy Editor.
Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Security Features > Add-on Management >
     Add-on List.
    Set this policy to 'Enabled'.
In the Add-on List, add the CLSID of BHO (Browser Helper Object) (i.e.) {B4F3A835-0E21-4959-BA22-42B3008E02FF} as the ‘Value Name’ and 1 as the 'Value'.
Log out of the machine and log back in again for the setting to take effect.

  • Replacement Path Problem (Use in Local Formula or CKF?)

    Hello BW Experts,
I have a couple of questions for a query I am currently working on that uses replacement path variables.
    I am looking to calculate the difference between 2 dates (u201Ctodays dateu201D u2013 u201Cstatistics dateu201D)
The statistics date is a characteristic in the cube and for u201Ctodays dateu201D I am using a local formula using the SAP replacement path variable for todays date.
Currently I am using the replacement path in a local formula in the columns of the query and this is fine when the reference characteristic is in the querry rows i.e statistics date.
I believe the reference characteristic needs to be in the rows when using a formula variable replacement path in a local formula in the columns as if I remove the u201Cstatistics dateu201D from the rows the replacement path does not work.
The actual query specification requires the u201Cstatistics dateu201D to be a u201Cfree characteristicu201D not part of the rows so the replacement path using a local formula will not work if the u201Cstatistics dateu201D is in the u201Cfree characteristicsu201D
I have also tried using a CKF and using the same formula variable in this but it still did not work with the u201Cstatistics dateu201D in the rows?
Do you know of any solution?
Also could somebody explain what "Characteristic Reference (Constant 1)" means?
    Thanks in advance..
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
I think you are right in infering that the replacement path wouldnt work if you didnt have the reference characteristic key in the rows to enable the replacement.
I think, the solution for you could be Virtual Characteritic.
Have you already thought about this?
I am not aware about the characteristic reference(constant).

    Sunmit.

  • How do I open draft folder of my mail?

How do I open draft folder of my mail?

Tap on it. The same way that you open any folder in your email account. If you are asking how to create a draft folder .... Start typing an email and then tap Cancel at the top of the email window and you will be prompted to save or delete the draft. Tap Save Draft and then the draft folder will appear.
Now what are you really asking about? Will your draft folder not open?

  • Draft Folder in IMAP with Outlook 2010

    Hi.
I have three Outlook accounts (work related) that I recently converted to IMAP from POP.  Everything seems to be working fine with the exception that I can't find a way of having the "Drafts" folder appear in the Folders List.  There
doesn't seem to be a way of finding a draft either.
Today I composed quite a lengthy email and when I clicked on "send" Outlook stalled and gave the warning that it was "not responding" - this is very unusual.  After a few seconds the email just disappeared and now I cannot recover
it.  It has been my experience in a POP account environment that if a composed email fails to "send" for any reason, it automatically saves a copy in the "drafts" folder - this doesn't seem to be the case in IMAP.
Any suggestions as to how I can get access to a "Drafts" folder and have it displayed in a MAPI environment?
    Thanks

    Hi,
First please go to View tab -> Reset View.
Then run Scanpst.exe to repair the Outlook Data File:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227
Start Outlook with the switch /resetfolders:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /resetfolders” in the blank box, then press Enter.
