SharePoint Versioning Feature

Dear Experts
If I enabled the versioning feature on a list, how to ONLY make the SP administrator view or edit versions of an item??

You'd have to create a custom permission level(s) for everyone else not including the right to View Versions.

  • Sharepoint version number in document properties

    Hi,
How can I set the SharePoint version number in my Word document, so that when the Sharepoint version number increases also the number in the document increases. We are running BPOS not 365.
    Thanks

The question wasn't about turning Sharepoint versioning on, it was about getting the Sharepoint version numbers to synchronise with the Word document property of the same name.
It ought to work. It doesn't (the Sharepoint version number doesn't even show up in the Document Information Panel or document property fields). I believe there is a workaround out there, but like the Original Poster I haven't found it yet.
As far as I can tell this has been broken in different ways in all the differnt versions of Sharepoint, at elast up to SP 2007. It's about time it was fixed.
Hi, All you will need to do is turn on versioning for your document library. You will need to navigate to the document library you would like to have versioning enabled on, click on settings and then document library settings. In the document library settings
click on versioning settings. From the versioning settings you will be able to enable the feature. Thanks, Tim Muth Microsoft Online Services Technical Support

    Hi All,
I am using Virtual box to connect to Sharepoint 2013 VPC. Due to an unexpected sutdown of my machine the VPC got some issue. Now I restored it using my bak up file. But after this when I deploy my sharepoint 2013 farm solution Iam getting the following error.
Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified..
Editing the web.config and adding dependentAssembly didnt worked for me.
What could be the issue? Any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
Please try to do as follows:
    1. Check your farm solution whether reference the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll. Or try to add the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll into the bin folder.
    2. Execute the iisreset command.
    3. Create a new farm solution and check whether the issue still occurs or not.

  • File sharing and the "current version" feature

    hi,
i see that there is a "current version" feature while using the file sharing features in "creative cloud".
How can I use this feature ?
ie. change or add versions to show up in the same area above to be used for communication with customers/clients etc.
-Where can i go to offer suggestions to this part of CC ?
-I would really love to see greater features for commenting, file sharing, and basically overall colaboration.
Any kind assistance in this would be greatly appreciated,
    Respectfull,
    RC.

It looks like you already have file syncing working from the Creative Cloud application. If not you can sign up here http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/file-and-typekit-font-sync-rolling-out/.
Then all you need to do is open a file in your Creative Cloud Files folder, make an edit and save the file with the same name. A new version will appear.

  • I Ipod class wont play TED and other video podcasts.  The genious bar could not figure out the problem.  This problem is not isolated to a single computer.  Secondly, the convert to ipod version feature in Itunes does not resolve the problem.

My Ipod classic wont play TED, The Grid, Techzilla and other video podcasts (but not all video podcasts).  The genious bar could not figure out the problem. Instead, the Apple store gave me credit towards a new classic, which produced the same problem.  This problem is not isolated to a single computer.  Secondly, the convert to ipod version feature in Itunes does not resolve the problem.  Lastly, I tried restoring the ipod to no avail.  I've heard this is a video codec problem.

The Hidden property is set within the solution, so you would need access to the source code in order to set it.

  • RoboHelp 11 .mdb files unhandled in SharePoint version control

Since RoboHelp 11, .mdb files don't seem to be recognized with SharePoint version control. Note that we have ensured the file type is allowed in SharePoint.
Lauching RoboHelp in Admin mode does not help.
Note that this was working under RoboHelp 10.

    Hi, goguenr
Because RoboHelp 11 has some enhancements and a new Topic-Sharing workflow (that can be "cloud-based") there have been some modifications. So perhaps it requires a re-connection to SharePoint. Normally, the RoboHelp/Sharepoint integration is most commonly used for source control of those files related to a specific RoboHelp Project. RoboHelp will exclude any "output" files (like those in the !SSL! folder because after all they are output files and not "source" files as source control implies. However, you can modify how this works with some configuration.  If you also link to files (which are managed by "Baggage" in the Project Manager); those are added to Source Control as well. (But it sounds like you were already doing that with previous versions, so sorry if I'm stating the obvious.)
I think if would be great if you could take a look at a webinar that Willam van Weelden and I did last Fall. A recording is available for viewing and is free. You can also learn more on Willam's website:

  • I'm not seeing the Auto Save and Versions features

I have a document open in Pages '09 and I'm running Lion, but I am not seeing the auto save or versions features that you supposedly get my clicking on the document name. Can someone help? Do I have to turn this feature on in preferences?

I'm actually working on a Word document that Pages has converted and opened, but the document does have a title bar name. So..I have to do a manual save before auto save will start working?!?
You don't have to do a manual save. Pages will auto save the converted Word document. If you quit Pages after editing the converted document without saving, Pages will reopen the converted Word document, give it a temporary window title of "Untitiled" and have saved your edits.
I did think I see a preference setting for auto save that wasn't checked in my preferences.
I don't think Pages every had auto save. Word does though, and this may be what you're remembering.
Also, how does all this auto save and versions stuff work…
Have a read of Apple's support document titled OS X Lion: About Auto Save and Versions. This explains both and how the two features are related but different.
NB While Pages auto saves new, untitled documents it doesn't create a Version of these documents.

  • SharePoint Version label in Word Document Problem

    Hi all,
Hoping somebody can help as I am quickly running out of ideas. I've setup a Document Library and created the {Version} within each document type, however when I create a document the following error message gets displayed:-
Some information required to complete this label is missing. To add the information now, click OK. To add the information later, click Cancel.
It appears that the label for {Version} or {_UIVersionString} as it is seen in the document is not able to be referenced.
Products are SharePoint 2013 and Word 2013
    Kind Regards,
    Neil

    Hi,
    Please do the following steps:
    1. Enable the versioning for the library.
    2. Create a new Calculated column with this formula: =Version, and add it to the default view.
    3. Check if the version information is available in the library's default view.
    4. If you can get the version information, try to set the labels value with the new added column.

  • Display SharePoint Version number in Excel

I have managed to display the SharePoint Version Number in Word 2007, using the label and the Document Management Policies in SharePoint. Now I am looking for something similar in MS Excel 2007, allowing me to automatically display the current version number
of the Excel file somewhere inside the document.
The idea is to always have an up to date version number on any printout of an Excel file, so that we can control our documents better. While I managed to display the number through the "Quick Parts" tool in Word, I cannot see anything similar in Excel.
Any ideas on how I can achieve this?
    Thanks for the help.

Firstly on the SharePoint document library create a custom column called SPVersion. A custom workflow will then be required to copy the SharePoint version number into the SPVersion column when an item is updated or added.
Start Excel and from the quick access toolbar, select More Commands. Then from the left navigation, choose Popular and ensure that 'Show developer bar in the ribbon' is selected. Click OK. Now open the Excel and save the file as a Macro Enabled Excel
Workbook. From the developer ribbon, click on 'View Code'. Right click on Microsoft Excel Objects and click on Insert > Module. Paste the user defined function below into the module:
    Function SPVersion()
    Dim wb As Workbook
    Set wb = ThisWorkbook
    For Each prop In wb.ContentTypeProperties
    If prop.Name = "SPVersion" Then
    SPVersion = prop.Value
    End If
    Next prop
    End Function
Now return to the Excel sheet and enter the function =SPVersion in any of the Excel cells to display the SharePoint version number.

It found the feature really cool and now it seems to be replaced by the navigation tool. Or am I missing something?

No. The street version feature is gone. This is Apple's maps app now, not Google's maps app from the previous iOS.

  • Versioning feature in CatOS and IOS

In a catalyst 6500 running IOS is there the versioning feature ?

    Hi
Thanks for the answer. I find the versioning feature very useful because in case of CatOS Upgrade, we can know if the upgrade will reboot or not the line cards,so this feature allows us to make an Catos Upgrade without any disruption for the user traffic if we want. I think that it is a pity that it is not possible to do the same with IOS

  • SharePoint PowerPivot feature failing after site collection was backed up and restored (moved to new content database)

    Hi there,
I am having some strange issue with my PowerPivot for SharePoint but can't figure out what is causing this. Here is what happened:
I setup PowerPivot (PP) for SharePoint and activate it on few site collections in production environment; I upload a PP workbooks in a library, manage the data refresh schedules, run the data refresh for an external SQL databases, etc. Everything works
    fine for several days.
One day we decide the move one of the site collections (X) from its current content database to its own (new) content db. The way we did it is that we took the site collection backup in production, restored it in test environment (in its own content
db; we deleted the old site collection in test first before restoring), checked everything including PP data refreshes etc.; all worked fine.
Then we did the same thing in production - we deleted the old site collection X, restored the site collection from the same backup file that we used in test environment, everything works fine EXCEPT the PowerPivot refreshes!! :-(
I am getting these errors: When I click on the workbook, it gives this error "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data"
When I click OK on error dialogbox, it opens the workbook fine but no slicers/refreshes work now. When I go back to the library and click on "Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh" to open the refresh history/schedule page, it gives this generic but scary
error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation." ULSViewer or Event viewer is not showing anything related to this error!
Strange thing is that PP refresh works fine in Test environment, as well as on other site collections in production that we didn't touch (which tells me there is nothing wrong with my PP configuration). Did the backup/restore in prd cause anything? Did moving
it in its own contentdb cause anything? (But then why it works in test environment?) Is there anything wrong with site collection PP feature? Can force reactivating it help??????? I am just lost and going crazy now!
    Please help.
    Asif

I manage a couple of different version of SharePoint, which we are in the process of migrating to SharePoint 2013. I have a problem which I am not sure how to resolve. We are using MetaLogix to migrate site and site collection data from an older SharePoint
2007/WSS3.0 server environment into our new SharePoint 2013 environment and we are having a problem with user profiles that get created.
I have SharePoint 2013 set up for "SharePoint Profile Synchronization" and some of our user's profiles are being created in an older format that shows the user's claims account information, rather than the more fancy profile type that allows us
to include pictures and click on "follow this person" links.
If we manually delete the profile, it will be recreated properly however, as we are migrating many sites and collections over, it is near impossible to do this and keep track of each user so that their profiles can be deleted and recreated.
Is there some way to change this behavior so that SharePoint will only create the newer style of user profile?

These 'profiles' are you looking at them in the User Profile Service Application itself or are you looking at site collections? There is a huge difference between the two but people often miss it.
In most cases you'll have some partial information on the Site Collections but when you click through to their actual profile (not just their User Information List entry) you'll see the prettier version. That information is normally internally synchronised
by a timer job but that may not have run yet and/or the fact that your users haven't actually used the site may be causing it not to update them (it's an efficiency matter).
Finally: Drop your sales guy at Metalogix an email, they will bounce it to one of their techies and they'll have seen it a million times.
