Sharepoints 2013 - User Alerts Empty

Hi there,
I am currently having an issue with alerts on both SharePoint 2013 farms with Alerts.
The Site Settings>User Alerts page is empty on any site in either farm.
I am able to create alerts and receive the confirmation email from SharePoint, however no user has received any alerts and when I check the User Alerts page for a site:
I have ensured that alerts are enabled on all web applications, checked that the Immediate Alerts timer job is running and that outgoing emails are sending without errors
I also ran through the checklist on http://www.sharepointdiary.com/2012/02/sharepoint-alerts-not-working-troubleshooting-checklist.html#ixzz2aSvOz3hB
However
my issue is that there are no alerts registered on the User Alerts page, or when clicking "My Alerts on this Site" from a confirmation email all is see is "There are currently no alerts to display" I am a farm admin and site administrator
so this can't be permissions related.
Have I missed something on install??

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that the User Alerts page is empty on any site in either farm.
Per my knowleadge, Alerts are set on library, list or discussion level, not on site level.
You could browse to the document library/libraries on your site and click the Library tab -> Alert Me button -> Set alert on this library. In the "Send Alerts To" section you can specify the users
that have to receive these alerts.
After you create the alerts, in the User Alerts page, you can select the users which are in the "Send Alerts To" section.
Thanks,
Linda Li

  • SharePoint 2013 User Profile Synchronization service problem

    After one week trying (three clean installs of SharePoint 2013), I haven't succeed to start "User Profile Synchronization service".
    Environment:
    Domain environment with two Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controllers.
    Fully qualified domain name matches NetBIOS name (domain.com - DOMAIN)
    Two tiers: SQL Server 2014 enterprise on Windows Server 2012 R2, and SharePoint 2013 SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
    I'm using named SQL instance for SharePoint (<SQLSRV>\<SHAREPOINT>), and SQL alias on SharePoint app server.
    All SharePoint prerequisites are installed successfully.
    SharePoint 2013 is installed successfully.
    Hotfix 2760265 is installed (before configuring SharePoint)
    SharePoint is configured successfully
    Preparing MySites host:
    MySites web application is created with separate AppPool, and with address https://my.domain.com.
    Certificate used is wild-card cert (*.domain.com), issued by trusted local PKI
    Managed path "personal" is created
    Site collection of type "My Sites Host" is created at root path
    "Self-Service Site Creation" is enabled for https://my.domain.com web application
    Farm account permissions:
    Local admin at SharePoint application server
    "Log on locally" at SharePoint application server
    "Replicate Directory Changes" at domain level
    I've even tried with adding farm account into domain admins group :)
    After trying to to start user profile synchronization service, service is in "starting" state about 5-10 min, and then returns to "stopped" state.
    ULS log shows the following exceptions:
    ILM Configuration: Error 'ERR_CONFIG_DB'
    UserProfileApplication.SynchronizeMIIS: Failed to configure MIIS post database, will attempt during next return. Exception: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: ERR_CONFIG_DB
    UserProfileApplication.SynchronizeMIIS: Failed to configure MIIS post database, will attempt during next return. Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
    Event viewer log:
    Event ID 6398, The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.LMTRepopulationJob (ID <guid>) threw an exception. Unexpected exception in FeedCacheService.BulkLMTUpdate: Region not found..
    some perfnet event id 2004 errors
    Troubleshooting:
    I've tried with clearing configuration cache
    Assigning farm account to domain admins group
    Installing form scratch three times, and thousand times from different checkpoints...
    I've saw 'ERR_CONFIG_DB' like million times, but never "Started" next to "User Profile Synchronization service". Does anyone has actually succeeded to start this service? :)
    I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!
    P.S. I can't stop asking myself is it was really necessary to develop such complex, problematic, and log-tells-nothing software just for getting user info from AD? Honestly, after more then decade experience as software developer and software architect -
    I must say I doubt...

  • SharePoint 2013 users only see custom list and document lists that they uniquely created

    In my first SharePoint 2013 project, I want to create a view where users can only see their own files that they generated. I think I know how to create this view when the list is associated with the 'Documents; folder. However I have created several custom
    lists where I can only see these items when I am on the navigation pane to the right and the unique custom lists are listed under 'recent'.
    Let me know if you can answer any of the following questions:
    1. When on the main SharePoint website, can lists be displayed in other locations than what I just listed? If so, where would I see these other lists?
    2. I would like to include the custom lists that are located in the 'recent' navigation pane as a view that only I can use. This would be based upon userid. If this is possible,  how would you combine the lists lists in the same view? If this is not possible,
    how would you set a view just for the lists listed under the 'recent' section?
    3. The content approval solution under versioning settings of a library to restrict the documents to only ones that the user created (and also Approver rights).  Then if they create a new view they still won't see the documents that were not created by
    them. What about custom lists that are not in the documents area but are in the 'recent' area? Would this restrict users to see only items that they created?
    4. Item level Permissions in advance settings solve this problem for the list in the document area and the custom list in the recent area? If so, how would you setup these values?

    As it turns out the, setting Item-Level Permissions in a library is fully supported with PowerShell!
    The PowerShell commands for changing this are very simple:
    $web = Get-SPWeb http://YourSite/
    $list = $web.Lists[“Your Document Library Name”]
    $list.ReadSecurity = 2
    $list.Update()
    $web.Dispose()
    Note the 3rd line which is where you determine the value for this setting using the following values:
    1 = “Read all items”
    2 = “Read items that were created by the user”
    If you wish to modify the values for Create and Edit access instead, replace .ReadSecurity with .WriteSecurity with
    the following values:
    1 = “Create and edit All items”
    2 = “Create items and edit items that were created by the user”
    4 = “None”
    For example:
    $web = Get-SPWeb http://YourSite/
    $list = $web.Lists[“Your Document Library Name”]
    $list.WriteSecurity = 2
    $list.Update()
    $web.Dispose()

  • What are high and low values in sharepoint 2013 user permissions?

    So I hit this api:
    http://win-a3q7ml82p8f/sharepoint_site/_api/web/roledefinitions/
    And got the different high and low values. But I am not clear with what they mean:
    For eg:
    High: 176, Low: 138612833
    and
    High: 176, Low: 138612801
    So for different values of Low how does it change the permissions?
    For 176 its binary is 10110000. So looking at this table here: http://www.dctmcontent.com/sharepoint/Articles/Permissions%20and%20Mask%20Values.aspx
    I can understand that 176 would mean the following set of permissions:
    DeleteVersions
    OpenItems
    ApproveItems
    But what's confusing me is, that user has OpenItems permissions but not ViewListItems permission? Am I wrong in understanding this?
    Also how does the value of Low change the overall user permissions?
    Note: I looked at this answer: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/9d6df168-e8f5-4323-8c34-0646c03eff68/rest-api-what-are-high-and-low-in-effectivebasepermissions-and-getusereffectivepermissions?forum=sharepointdevelopment
    But honestly I cant understand what that means. Can someone help please?

  • Upgraded to SharePoint 2013 - user redirected to usersettingserror.aspx

    Hello,
    We have performed a test upgrade from SharePoint 2010 to 2013. We are testing with a handful of of users. One of the users reported that they are being redirected to a usersettingserror.aspx page. I found this article which outlines pretty much the same
    scenario we are experiencing:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/62179303-d2d4-4f04-818b-9645a18f3425/user-gets-edit-user-settings-when-visiting-a-site-collection-and-redirected-to?forum=sharepointadminprevious
    I am concerned that when we do perform the upgrade on our production environment, this will happen with several people. At that point, it will not be feasible to add and remove people from the site collection admins group. This will not only frustrate users,
    it is a security vulnerability and is not a viable solution. Does anyone have any other recommendations on how to handle this issue? Thanks.

    I will create a new site collection and test with the user today. We have only been testing existing content.
    The user only has access to three site collections and she reported this issue with two of the primary site collections she uses.
    We have not run migrateusers or Move-SP user - do we have to do this as part of the upgrade?
    She is listed only once in the user information list.

  • Error Creating a List in SharePoint 2013

    I have a strange error I'm not able to solve. I've done several searches on this topic and found nothing even remotely like it.
    Here's the situation, some of my SharePoint 2013 users (who have Full Control rights on their SharePoint sites) are getting the following error when they attempt to create a new list on their sites:
    error_pagetitle
    An error occurred while getting the items.
    [AgrumentNull_Generic]
    Agruments:
    Debugging resource strings are unavailable. Often the key and arguments provide sufficient information to diagnose the problem. See Link  Parameter name: s
    When I follow the same steps, I get the list templates that I expect to get and can create lists. I tested this by allowing a user who was getting this error to login to SharePoint with their credentials on my computer. They got the error again. So it is
    not a problem on the users computer.
    Steps to reproduce this error:
    1. On the affected site, click on the "All Site Content" link.
    2. On the all site content page, click on the "Create" link.
    3. Error message displays.
    When I clicked on the link in the error message, I received the following error: "The definition of the resource ID could not be found."
    I checked the ULS logs and found nothing helpful. Can anyone give me advice on how to resolve this error? Anything would help.
    Thank you.

    Having the same issue.  If the end user had Full Control, what permission was missing and what list could he see if he could never create a list?

  • How to have profile thumbnails image appear in a SharePoint 2013 list?

    Hello,
    I am not using MySites, but have a SharePoint 2013 list with profiles in them.  They were imported from Active Directory, where I do have thumbnail images for each profile.  I am using SharePoint 2013.  How would I get these images from AD

  • Missing Excel Services in Sharepoint 2013

    Can anyone please help me understand why Excel  services is not available to add as a service?
    What is missing?

    Hi GaryB92,
    Excel Services is an Enterprise feature.  Do you have an Enterprise product key, and has your company purchased Enterprise client licenses (eCALs) for the users that need to use Excel Services? Your Microsoft Account Manager can tell you if you aren't
    sure.
    If you are licensed for it then from Central Admin you can select "Upgrade and Migration" > "Enable Enterprise Features" and then go ahead and select the Enterprise radio button and then ok.  You should note though, that you cannot downgrade the
    farm back to use only Standard features though.
    Note that depending on the key originally entered when installing the product, you may need to select "Convert farm license type" first and put in a correct Enterprise product key.
    Also note that in 2013 there is a new User License Enforcement capability to help ensure that your environment complies with the actual MS user licenses purchased. Here is a useful article on this: http://www.petri.co.il/sharepoint-2013-user-license-enforcement.htm
    There's also an easy to search SP2013 feature matrix by license type here - http://blog.blksthl.com/2013/01/14/sharepoint-2013-feature-comparison-chart-all-editions/

  • Building a GUI in SharePoint 2013

    I’m planning on building some business processes that use SQL as the data source and allow SharePoint 2013 users to interact with the data. I’m not sure how to give the users a GUI inside SharePoint. I can use InfoPath, but that’s more for the data entry/collection
    etc. I can use an Access Web App, but there are too many drawbacks. Can’t trigger workflows, cant access already existing databases, etc. The dashboards, Power View etc. are for reports, not data manipulation.
    What exactly is the preferred method of creating a GUI inside SharePoint 2013 to allow this type of data interaction

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to create a GUI inside SharePoint 2013 to allow SQL data interaction.
    I recommend that you can create external content type and external list to display the SQL data. For more information:
    How to Create an External List Including a Database from SharePoint Designer 2013 -
    SharePoint 2013
    To update external list with workflow, you can use the SharePoint designer workflow 2010 as the List Workflow action of the SharePoint 2013.
    Here are some similar articles for your reference:

    In addition, you can use app to solve this issue. See this post

  • Pulling user/group field data from SharePoint list using REST, jQuery, Knockout.js Sharepoint 2013

    I'm trying to make an interactive task board based on the task list app in SharePoint 2013. The task lisk includes fields like "Title","Description","Status","% Complete","Due Date","Assigned To",
    etc. I used knockout.js to bind "Title","Description", and "Status" to my HTML controls. Here is some of the code:
    var ViewModal = function(items, listname){
    var self = this;
    self.sortBy = ko.observableArray(sortBy);
    self.tasks = ko.observableArray(items);
    self.listname = ko.observable(listname);

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 User field issue

    Guys, I have an issue with Sharepoint Foundation 2013 site that we have created some custom workflows for. We have a couple required fields that we type in a users name and it automatically pulls up a user based on Active directory. once we choose that name
    and then save the form. the field immediately becomes blank when i open the workflow item back up. I'm kind of at a loss. I've already totally hosed the server once and was forced to restore.  This seams to have started when we installed share point server
    patch KB2881077 but i cannot uninstall or roll back the patch as there is no option to.
    Thoughts?

    If you're using SharePoint 2013 April 2013 CU or higher, this is a known issue where the People data is missing in Edit view. There is a separate issue that is resolved in the September 2014 CU:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2995905
    Consider the following scenario:
    You create a SharePoint 2013 list that contains a Person or Group (people picker) column.
    You create or edit an item, and then you select a person whose name contains a comma in the Person or Group field.
    In this scenario, the value of the Person or Group field is lost when you save the item.

  • Accessing Sharepoint 2013 externally for domain users and customers

    Just an FYI I am not a SP administrator by any means but have be tasked with taking over this project and could use some assistance.
    Sharepoint 2013 is working fine internally. Users access the site and login with their domain credentials. Our client is moving one of their departments to another building down the street and we'd like them to be able to access local resources without the
    use of another server or site to site vpn or standard vpn.
    My question is, how do we make Sharepoint accessible outside of their local network?
    If we open up a port on the router and have it forward all request to Sharepoint server will we be able to access it?
    Also, how will they authenticating with the Sharepoint Server? Do they use the same user credentials?
    I forgot to mention this is Sharepoint 2013 Enterprise Edition. We are also using Project Server 2013 as well.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi 3s1k,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to access the SharePoint site from Internet.
    You need to first ensure that you enable Anonymous Access for your web application. You'll then need to set up DNS for the domain you own to point to your web front end server (or virtual IP if it's load balanced). Then set up the appropraite IIS bindings
    for the web application, and finally you'll need to extend your web application to an Internet Zone and give it the appropriate domain name.

  • SharePoint 2013 - The parameter 'token' cannot be a null or empty string

    Hi all,
    I am trying to create SharePoint 2013 web app for office 365 using visual studio 2012. when I run the SharePoint web
    app then it show the error "the parameter 'token'
    cannot be a null or empty string" in the TokenHelper.cs file.
    this is the url i'm using:
    $(function () {
    $('#exportToExcelBtn').click(function () {

    is it good?
    I checked that key "clientID" and "cleantSecret" contains values.
    what else can it be?

    in order to authenticate the app standard token should be submitted along with the url
    check the below url
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj163816(v=office.15).aspx
    This combines five other tokens. It initially resolves to SPHostUrl={HostUrl}&SPAppWebUrl={AppWebUrl}&SPLanguage={Language}&SPClientTag={ClientTag}&SPProductNumber={ProductNumber}.
    Then each of these tokens resolves. If there is no app web, the portion &SPAppWebUrl={AppWebUrl} is
    not present.

    Hi,
    In the “Property Mappings” of the Content Search Web Part, we can see that the Picture field will only display the value retrieved from “PublishingImage;PictureURL;PictureThumbnailURL”,
    because there is corresponding column in OOTB Document Library holds the valid value of a thumbnail image for a document, that’s why documents from Document Library display no thumbnail image in a Content Search Web part.
    If you want to display thumbnail images for documents of Document Library, you can add a custom Picture column to hold the thumbnail image of a document, set the “Property
    Mappings” to display this custom Picture column.
    By doing this, every time uploading a document to this library, setting a thumbnail image(provided by common users, not generated by SharePoint automatically) for
    that custom Picture column, in the Content Search Web Part, the thumbnail image will display.
    Thanks

  • Sharepoint 2013 Problem - User Personal site never created. Clicking Skydrive/Newsfeed/or Follow

    New 2013 setup.  I created 1 test site.   I'm able to load the site, but If the user clicks on 'Follow', 'Skydrive', or 'Newsfeeds', the user is taken to the personal page that reads:
    We're almost ready!
    While we set things up, feel free to changeyour
    photo, adjustyour
    personal settings, and fill
    ininformation about yourself.
    It could take us a while, but once we're done, here's what you'll get:
    Newsfeedis your social hub where you'll see updates from the people, documents, sites, and tags you're following, with quick access to the apps you've added.
    SkyDrive Prois your personal hard drive in the cloud, the place you can store, share, and sync your work files.
    Sitesgives you easy access to the places you'll want to go.
    There seems to be some sort of user init that never completes.
    In the log files taken from "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions" I found the following related to an attempt

    Any thoughts on this?   troubleshooting tips?

    In my case, here is what happened and how I fixed it.
    Situation:
    Mysite is a new web application. We have two one-way trusts in place since the domain of the farm is different than the two other domains where users reside. So I ran the
    STSADM.exe -o setproperty -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -pv "Forest1,Domain1\account,password;
    Forest2,Domain2\account,password"
    -url https://mysitesURL
    This allowed the user policy of the new Mysites web application to search through the two domains where AD users reside. Once I added them I was good, no more errors.
    One thing to note, I have two web apps using the same wildcard cert and running off port 443 SSL.
    I wanted to make the user picture come from AD so I changed that user property (Picture) in User Profile Service options, and this seems to have broken initial MySite creation, but once the user adds a picture
    to their profile settings, the site starts working. I need to remove the property I added for "Picture" in user profile properties.
    This is the process I took that caused my problem:
