Sharing a i-movie to i-movie 4

This may seem like a dumb question, but if I built an i-movie project on one computer using i-movie 3, can I file share and get that on my laptop to work on it if my laptop has i-movie 4 on it? If I can, how???
Thanks! Kelly

When I get it on my laptop, it will open in i-movie 4, even if it was started in 3?
Yes it will. Just make SURE you have all third-party plug-ins and all fonts installed on the laptop.
You might want to empty the system caches first, using "Cache Out X" from http://www.versiontracker.com/

  • Shared music and movie library stops loading

The shared iTunes music and movie library stops loading on my ios devices.
iTunes 11.1.5 is set up for both home sharing and library sharing over my secured home wifi network. Home sharing between the mini that is running iTunes and my old Macbook works without any issues.
My ios devices can see and will eventually connect to the shared library but connecting is pretty slow unless the ios devices are in the same room with the mini.
After a few hours my ios connection to the shared music and movie library drops and stops loading halfway when I try to reconnect.
The ipad is running ios 7.1 and my iPhone is running ios 6.1.3.

    Hi Jay Clay and Hagerty,
I'm in the same boat.  I'm running iTunes 11.2.2 on a Macbook Pro (running 10.9.3) and iOS 7.1.1 on an iPhone 4s; so running the latest version of software is not the issue.
The username logs in correctly on all devices and I can actually see the iTunes library available to share on my device.  From "Music" on the phone, I go to "More > Shared" and then select the library that is shared from my Macbook.  So I know that the login information is correct.
The circular status wheel begins to load and gets halfway around before it stalls and does not resume.  This process happens repeatedly, so it's reproduceable and consistent -- not a one-time issue.
I've tried restarting both systems, but the same problem ensues.  I've also tried signing out and signing back into Home Sharing on all devices, which did not resolve the issue.  I've read and followed all the recommendations in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing", but these really only offer solutions if you're not able to see the shared library; which is not the issue that I believe Jay Clay, Hagerty and I are having.
    Some thoughts:
Could it be that the iTunes library is too large?
Could it be that Home Sharing times out if the library is not loaded in a set amount of time?
I've attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing on my iPhone, for your reference.
Also, here is the confirmation page I'm seeing in iTunes, so Home Sharing appears to be working.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Can I use home sharing if my movies are on a 2TB TC?

I have transferred my movies from iTunes onto my 2TB TC but now I cant see them on my home sharing? Is there no way for it to do this even tough that it was where my media is told to be saved ? Does it have to remain on my computers main hard drive in order to be "home shared"?

Ok, so what I did was create an iTunes media (not library folder) folder in my TC's Data file by finding the folder on my Mac and dragging it to the TC. I then went into iTunes and consolidated the library. I went back to the original iTunes media file in my Mac and put it in the trash (DO NOT DUMP FROM TRASH YET!!!). Before I deleted it I went back into iTunes>preferences>advanced and then told it where to find my media in the iTunes media location box. You will then click ok, exit out of iTunes and go to iTunes in the dock and tell iTunes to quit. You will then reopen itunes while holding the option key on your keyboard.
Now check your shared media on your iPad or ATV or whatever to make sure it sees everything and if it does you were successful and may now dump the iTunes media that you put into the trash previously.

  • Home sharing works for movies but not music?

I have Home Sharing turned on my imac.  It works fine streaming movies and tv shows to my Apple TV, Mac Mini and ipads.  The media is stored on a NAS.
My problem is with music.  When on the ipad, I open the Home Sharing folder. Only half a dozen albums show up.  The artwork is all mixed up.  On Songs, there are several hundred, but they are not properly listed (eg a hundred or so under "A", but they do not begin with the letter "A".
    I've tried retarting everything.
I've tried deleting the library and rebuilding.
I've tried creating a new library on imac.
I've tried creating a new library on NAS.
    Nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas anyone?
    thanks

After digging and reading since I posted this question, I finally found the issue. My Cisco VPN client was set to stateful firewall (always on). When I turned off this setting, all machines worked for iTunes sharing. The Vista box was coincidentally working because the Cisco VPN client 4.6 didn't work on Vista.

  • Home sharing - can see movie on iPhone, but it won't play.

I've got home sharing set up on iTunes and in my iPhone 3GS. I'm in the process of testing the digitizing of my home DVD library into iTunes, and have made my first attempt.  The film works fine in iTunes on my Mac, and I can see it on my iPhone, but when I try to play it it hangs for a second and then an error comes up that says "The operation could not be completed".  I also have a couple of television episodes I purchased - they also show up on the iPhone and play with no problem.  Any thoughts?  The movie file is an .m4v - I wondered if that could be the issue?
    Thanks,
    -K

I've seen this when downloaded to a computer/device that wasn't authorized.  Try to re-authorize in case it (or someone else) became de-authorized again.

  • In imovie 5.0.2 permissions are in the way of me sharing a finished movie to full resolution. i use the disc utility to repair permissions and still cannot "share" the finished movie. i repaired my drive and it is clean. the movie has audio from utube

i am having difficulties sharing my imovie 5.0.2 file. it stops short with the note that permissions or drive space are causing the problem. i repaired the permissions and my drive has 3x the needed space and ran a osx repair of the drive. in my movie there are 50s and 60s audio segments from utube. i have an imac g5. i did the library and put those folders on my desktop also, like the following, com.apple.iMovie8.plist

  • Home Sharing of purchased movies on PC's - SOS

    Hi all,
I have purchased and downloaded a movie on a PC through iTunes.
It was the 1st time i handled iTunes (in general!) so i assumed that opening iTunes on my 2nd PC i would find the purchased item in my iTunes library.
I was wrong of course, since you need to enable Home Sharing. So i enabled Home sharing on both PC's.
But again the purchased movie is NOT in the iTunes library on the 2nd PC.
    - Does the country affect the home sharing? I mean is it possible that home sharing is not available specifically for movies in Greece (where i live)??
    - Has anybody faced the same problem? What can i do?
P.S. 1 I have succesfully authorised both PC's (through my Apple ID) for the home sharing
P.S. 2 On 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Sharing' i have selected "Share selected playlist'' and then i selected the 'Movies' and on 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Store' i have selected the option ''Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases''.
Don't know what else to do....
    Thanks.

    Solution from ActionTec is:
    Log into your router.
    Click the Advanced icon
    Cclick Yes
    Click on the IGMP Proxy
    Select Disable
    Click Apply

  • Home Sharing Issue - deleted movies from one computer show up in other

    Hi Everyone:
I have searched for an answer to this issue, but have yet to find it, which is why I am posting.
I added some mv4 ripped movies to iTunes, but deleted them, moving the file to trash. I do not see them in my iTunes library. When I go into my wife's iTunes and use Home Sharing to access my computer's iTunes, the deleted movies are visible. I have logged out of Home Sharing and logged back in, but they still show up. I want to get rid of them from Home Sharing. If I deleted them on my computer, they should not show up elsewhere.
    Thank you in advance.

I've solved the problem and I wish I could just delete my previous post, but I guess I cannot. The movies I thought were deleted were listed under a different catagory in iTunes, which I found by searching for the file extension in Spotlight. Once I found them, I deleted them and they stopped showing up in Home Sharing.

  • Shared photos music movies, Incorrect labeling??

Have an ATV 2, Mac G5 synced and PC shared. ON the ATV in the My Music or Photos or Movies selections the text on the top of those say "My Music". "My Photos", "My Movies", this is from the G5......no problem there.
The PC which is shared, under Shared Music or Photos or Movies the Music says "Name of computers Music"..which is correct. Shared Photos also says "Name of computers Music"...it should say "Name of computers Photos" and under Shared Movies it says "Name of computers Music"...it should say"Name of computers Movies".
Has anyone else noticed this? It doesn't seem like a setup issue. Looks like a software writing issue.
    Anyone??
    Thanks,
    Andrew

We have an imac and a macbook pro laptop.  Is there any way to store the main photo library centrally so that we can edit and organize pictures and videos from both machines and have the changes/updates seamless appear on the other?
iPhoto Libraries must be located on a drive that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored for it to work properly and be used by more than one user.  It should not be accessed wirelessly as that can lead to library database corruption due to dropouts occurring when writhing to the library's database file.  The following is from this Apple document: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users - Apple Support.
It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss. If you use both iPhoto and Aperture with the same library, using a Mac OS X Extended formatted volume is recommended. For more information, see Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library.
As you know iPhoto has been discontinued and is being replaced by a new application called "Photos".  It will have integration with the iCloud Drive and offer library sharing of some kind between Macs.  We'll have to wait for it's release sometime this Spring before we know more.

  • Home Sharing shared tv shows/movies but not music

I turned on Home Sharing in my MacBook Pro, but I noticed it isn't listed on the left hand side in iTunes.
I turned on Home Sharing on my ATV3 but it doesn't list my computer on the computers menu.
Do I need iCloud Match in order to listen to my music library on the ATV3? I would have thought it would be there via home sharing? On the ATV3, my purchased movies and tv shows are in there, so where is my music llibrary?
    Thanks..

From what you are saying, your movies and TV shows aren't there (or at least not by virtue of home sharing), redownloading of purchased content isn't done with home sharing.
If home sharing was working correctly, you would have access to all your iTunes content from the computers section of the Apple TV, not just the movie/TV show sections.
Your problem appears to be that home sharing isn't working. there may be a number of reasons for this and hence why I asked you to check whether both devices were using the same network. Other reasons might be that a firewall or anti-virus software is blocking home sharing.

  • Settings for sharing as Quicktime movie

I'm doing a huge project - converting old analog Hi8 home movies to digital via a converter box. I'm pulling clips from the event and wanting to export (share) the small clips as QT movies AT THE BEST POSSIBLE QUALITY. The "Size" setting that comes up is "Compressor Native" 640-480.
Should I go with this setting, or change it to one of the many options? I have no idea! I want to be able to watch the movies on a stand-alone DVD player and both PC and Mac computers.
I have no idea what to do, and need to do it correctly from the beginning.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks...
I did search the forum and nothing addressed my specific issue. Sorry if I didn't phrase my question clearly.
Anyway, I suspect the problem is that the Brightcove software does not work well with the Apple Intermediate Codec. I had no problem with a .mov exported with H.264 compression. This adds extra time to my workflow, but I suspect it will be a necessary evil.

  • Sharing iBooks, music, movie downloads etc

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  Home Sharing is rife with problems when transferring media.

  • HT4527 Using the Home Sharing method to move iTunes

Do both computers need to be connected to the internet at the same time for the Home Sharing transfer method to work or just at the time Home Sharing is activated on the individual computers.  I do not have wifi and only one line to access the internet.

Neither computer needs to be connected to the internet.
They do need to be on the same local network

  • Sharing More than One Movie with iDVD????

Okay.. I would like to know if there is another way to burn MORE than one movie an iDVD project. It seems that sending the movie straight to iDVD creates it's own project, and when you try to send another movie, it creates a completely different project. I know I can send a movie to Media browser but the quality of the movie is much better when I share it via the command in iMovie 09 (Shrare->iDVD). I've noticed that the file type is different when you send it to iDVD than when you put it in Media Browser as well.
Currently this is what I do.. Share it to iDVD.. Then I save that iDVD project to my desktop. I close iDVD, and start sharing my second movie. I then Control-Click on the first iDVD project and choose "Show Package Contents". I then dig into the trenches of that file to find the movie file. I then drag it to the desktop and delete the first iDVD project. When the new iDVD project gets made, I simply drag the file on my desktop into the iDVD project I want it in and then it works. This seems like a so un-apple way to do this though. I think iMovie definetly needs and update here. It's great if you ony want to burn a 1 movie to iDVD, but what if you want to do more. There should be a way to select multiple movies to send to iDVD or the option of adding a new imported movie to the current project in iDVD.
Am I missing something or is there another way to do this? Is there a good export option in QuickTime? DV doesn't work because the quality I get is horrible. Somehow the shared to iDVD movie is the best quality and it's a QuickTime file via h.264. Is that my best export option? Sharing with the Media browser creates a mv4 file that's much smaller in size, even at the largest setting. The frames are more jumpier when iDVD finishes with it than the h.264 file.
Any better suggestions? Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple. I can't find it anymore on this website.

Q:Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple.
A: Launch iDvd and then scroll down to Provide iDvd Feeback.
