Sharing a library and authorization problems.

I just got a new MacBook. All of my iTunes songs are on my wife's PC. It is running Windows XP Pro. I am sharing the PCs Library on my new Mac. I have authorized the the new Mac to play songs purchased from my account. Not all songs will play. There are some that when clicked on are asking me to authorize the Mac to play. I re-type in my info and it appears to be OK but when I try to play the song again it asks me to authorize again. When I go to do that, it says I am already authorized. It is hit and miss. I haven't seen a common thread between songs that will play and ones that wont. I only have one account with iTunes and this is machine is only 3 out of the allowed 5 that I can authorize.
Any suggestion?
_Tom

Okay, apologies...I figured out how to share the library off my laptop over my network to my iMac. Still not sure about the userid for itunes issue.
Thanks again!

  • Home Sharing Between MAC and PC Problem

    Hello all,
    I am having an issue with home sharing between my iMac and PC. Here is the setup:
    IBM x61 tablet with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit- I run itunes and see the iMac's itunes library just fine and can import perfectly
    iMac with Snow Leopard- iTunes can see the IBM's library but can't load the library; it gets hung up. Also, the icon next to the library from the x61 is a music symbol and not the home icon so I know something is wrong. I have tried everything in the troubleshooting section of the apple support page besides opening the ports. It seemed to have happened witht the latest iTumes update.
    Should I try port forwarding? I use a d-link 815 router and have avira anti-virus. Has anyone had success with windows 7 firewall and the ports?
    Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
    Diggs

    I'm not 100% sure of the terminology used by Windows or any other Windows firewall programs but in essence what you want to do is allow those port to pass through. Forwarding sounds correct to me. Do you only have one firewall active? I know Windows has its own built-in firewall and some security software also install firewalls and I know some people don't realize that they are running two and should turn one of them off. Not sure if you amy be running into that problem.
    Here is a thread where someone shows what they did with their firewall settings to get things to work.

    Also, I wrote this for someone else. It explains how sharing in iTunes works. Maybe it can help you to troubleshoot your problem.
    Home Sharing is enabled by selecting Home Sharing from the 'Advanced' menu (see screen shot below) and entering your Apple ID and password. Home Sharing allows unrestricted access to the shared iTunes library from computers on the network as well as from iOS devices. Home Sharing is required for access by iOS devices, they do not work with Library Sharing. Home sharing also allows you to copy media from one computer to another, something you can't do with Library Sharing. Home Sharing overrides Library Sharing if both are enabled.
    Library Sharing is enable by selecting 'Share my library on my local network' in iTunes Preference (see screen shot below.) Library Sharing does not work with iOS devices. Library Sharing only allows for the playback of media from shared libraries. You cannot copy media from one computer to another using Library Sharing. The 'Status:' indicator will display a count of the number of computers that are connected to your library using Library Sharing. Home Sharing connections will not be indicated here. You can also restrict who can connect to your library using a password. This password restriction has no affect on Home Sharing connections. They are authorized and controlled by the use of Apple IDs.
    How to tell if you are connecting to a library shared by Home Sharing or Library Sharing (see screen shot below.) A Home Sharing library icon looks like a house with a musical note on the side. A Library Sharing icon looks like a stack of CDs with a musical note on top. They are both labeled by the name of the shared library as configured in iTunes Preferences.
    I think I've covered everything and hope this helps people understand the difference between the two types of shared libraries and how to configure each.

  • Home Sharing: Half loading and skipping problems

    Hello all
    Firstly, thank you to those that are reading this with a view to helping, and to those that will, hopefully, reply.
    I am looking at getting my iTunes library shared in my home. My current set up is simple: 2011 MBP, iPhones, iPad, all music on the MBP and all devices using the same iTunes account (although, there are different iCloud accounts on the devices, but I assume this is not a problem). All devices up-to-date. Approx 80GB of ripped/iTunes purchased music. The first thing I want to acheive is my iPhone having access to my music library so I can plug the phone into a dock and play what I want.
    I believe I have set up Home Sharing correctly. When I use the Music app on any iOS device I can see the library on the MBP, but one of two things happens:
    - Mostly, the library half loads (exactly half, it quickly gets to half and stops), or
    - The library does eventually load but when i try to play a song it skips/cycles through every song without playing, until it comes to the end of the playlist/album
    Both of the above seem to be reasonably common problems, with no solution.
    As a troubleshoot, i set up the Remote app; this works flawlesly. I can control iTuines from an iPhone with no problems at all. "It just works." I therefore assume that I can mostly rule out router problems and me not setting things up properly.
    So, the question: Is there a real solution to the above?
    Many thanks

  • Sharing iTunes library and having different iCloud ID ?

    My wife and I use the same iTunes account and share libraries (music, apps and others).
    Now, on her iPad and iPhone, almost daily she is prompted for entering an iCloud password in order to backup. I guess this makes sense in this situation to have separate backups in iCloud, but share the iTunes and App store ID and password.
    Now I'm starting to wonder which is best : either backup on a Mac then no longer have to bother with this ?  Or keep using iCloud (then how could we know if she ever had an iCloud account - and can this be different than iTunes and App Store) ?  - If so how to recover ?
    Or is there another way to go ?
    Last thing we want is to either end up with a merged and confused iCloud backups, or that she loose all access to iTunes purchases by logging her iPad to a different ID and password for iCloud...
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi lanstrad,
    If your wife's iPad and iPhone are asking for a sign on to iCloud repeatedly, have her Delete the iCloud account on the device and sign back in again to see if that resolves that problem: Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom of the screen, tap on Delete account, enter iCloud password, follow the remaining prompts to delete the account (this will not affect the iCloud content - it will come back when iCloud is signed back on). Then sign back into the account.
    You can use separate IDs for iCloud and for iTunes. This allows you to do exactly what you are doing - keeping your purchases shared between the two of you while keeping your Contacts, Messages, Notes, etc. separate. Here is a support article on using two IDs:

  • Authentication and Authorization Problems with IIS 6 and Jrun 4

    Hello all,
    I am using IIS 6 with JRun 4 as my app server, and I am having problems trying to get authentication and role authorization with Windows Integrated Authentication to work. I have set up IIS 6 to pass-through the authentication credentials to Jrun, without using an anonymous user. What I have done is written a small test servlet that displays the username of the logged in user, and then tries to check if a user is in a test role that I set up in my database. I have specified that a roles table is to be used by specifying a JDBCLoginModule in Jrun's auth.config file. The code for the servlet is below:
    package testauthenticationapp;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.io.PrintWriter;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class SecureTestServlet extends HttpServlet {
       private static final String CONTENT_TYPE =
          "text/html; charset=windows-1252";
       public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
          super.init(config);
       public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
                         HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException,
                                                              IOException {
          response.setContentType(CONTENT_TYPE);
          PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
          out.println("<h3>REMOTE USER: " + request.getRemoteUser() + "</h3>");
          if (request.getUserPrincipal() != null){
             out.println("<h3>" +request.getUserPrincipal().getName() + "</h3>");
          } else{
             out.println("<h3>User Principal is null</h3>");
          if (request.isUserInRole("Test_Role")){
             out.println("<h3>User is in Test_Role</h3>");
          } else {
             out.println("<h3>User is NOT in Test_Role</h3>");
          out.close();
    1.  What I am seeing is that when request.getRemoteUser() is called, the username information is what I expect it to be. It is of the form <Domain>\<Username>. When I try to redisplay the username using the request object's Principal object, the call to request.getUserPrincipal() returns null. This is a little confusing to me since I thought that essentially getRemoteUser() was a short cut for calling getUserPrincipal().getName(), and if I get something for getRemoteUser, getUserPrinicipal should return something as well. I guess they work differently at some level. Has anyone ever encountered this before?
    2. When I call request.isUserInRole("Test_Role"), it returns false. I've checked the role name being called for typos in both my database and in the code, and that does not seem to be the case. I think the setup in auth.config is properly configured because I have created many other applications using declaritive FORM based authentication, and the role information was retrieved fine from the database. I would think that when I use request.isUserInRole in my servlet code it would use the same role information, but I could be wrong since this is a different type of authentication. Do you think that the reason request.isUserInRole() is returning  false could be tied to the fact that request.getUserPrincipal() is returning null (even though getRemoteUser() is returning a valid username)? How does request.isUserInRole() get its user information, by using getUserPrincipal().getName() or getRemoteUser()?
    Any help that is provided is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Try This...
    Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
    Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • File sharing windows 7 and xp problem

    Hello All,,
    I am working within domain environment using windows server 2012 R2 as domain controller and my client computers are windows 7 professional and windows XP ,,,
    the problem is windows XP can NOT access the shared files on windows 7 computers ,, and gives a message that you do not have permission to access this network resource when you enter the IP address or FQDN of the computer that hold the share files ,,,, i.e.
    put \\X.X.X.X  in RUN bar ,,,, even the permission is established correctly , network works well and the firewall is turned off ,,
    but the strange thing that when restarting windows 7 then windows xp clients can access the shared files for some period of time may be some hours then the problem comes back again and i have to reboot windows 7 to fix the problem.
    is there any permanent solution for this problem without rebooting windows 7 machines  ??!

    Hi,
    In addition to previous post, please check following things to see what's going on:
    Step 1: Reinstall Client for Microsoft Networks on your XP computer:
    Network and Sharing Center->Change adapter settings
    ->Right click on you connection->Properties.
    Then uncheck Client for Microsoft Networks to apply and recheck to see what's going on.
    Step 2: Compatibility to lower lever LSA settings on Windows 7:
    Note: backup your registry keys before doing following changes to avoid unexpected error.
    1. Start Registry Editor, type Regedit in the Search programs and files box, and then press ENTER.
    2. Locate and then click following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA
    3. Locate the LmCompatibilityLevel registry value.
    If the registry value is not present, follow these steps to create it:
    a.Select the registry subkey that is listed in step 2.
    b.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click  DWORD Value.
    c.Type LmCompatibilityLevel, and then press ENTER.
    4. Set the DWORD value to 1. To do this, click Modify on the Edit menu, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    5. Exit Registry Editor and restart the computer.
    Step 3: GP settings on your Windows 7 PC if there is gpedit.msc on this computer:
    1. Click Start >  Run , type secpol.msc in the box, and click OK .
    2. Click Local Policies .
    3. Click User Rights Assignment .
    4. Click Access this computer from the network and make sure that the Everyone group is included.
    5. Click Deny access to this computer from the network and make sure that the Everyone group is NOT included.
    Let me know the results of each step and post back if you need further help.

  • Crystal Reports and Authorization Problems

    I am having an issue with Crystal Reports and User Authorizations.
    I was build a Crystal Report and import into SAP Business  One (SBO 8.8 PL18 HF). After that i give full authorizations for this report in some users. Then if the user login in SBO and choose to see the report his has the following error
    You are not permitted to perform this action - "The name of the Report " [Message 200-30]
    or
    You are not permitted to perform this action - "The name of another Crystal Report " [Message 200-30]
    This happen also if I edit a crystal report and re import the new version.
    If i change the user to Super User  then there is no Problem but i don't want something like this. Is something going wrong with Import Crystal Report and SBO menu items?
    Any Idea?
    Thanks In advance

    Hi Balakumar,
    I had tried also with the way that you suggested...
    Only if I give full authorizations for all the modules itu2019s possible for the user to open the crystalu2026
    And I said possible because sometimes with full Authorizations everything it is ok and sometimes not.
    The most strange thing is that if I choose to open a Crystal Report  the display error as i said before is
    for another Crystal Report in SBO menu.
    e.x I choose to run a Daily Cash Report from the User
    and the ERROR Said
    "You are not permitted to perform this action - Outgoing Payments Message 200-30"
    Thanks for your Response

  • DHTML List (Image) with Sublist and authorization problems

    Dear all -
    I wonder if anyone can help with this DHTML drop-down menu query:
    We use hierarchical menus implemented as DHTML Lists (Image) with Sublists. When some of the items are hidden through authorization, the wrong headers appear for the menus.
    For example:
    Menu
      Item 1
        Subitem 1 of Item 1
        Subitem 2 of Item 1
      Item 2
        Subitem 1 of Item 2
        Subitem 2 of Item 2
    Say Item 1 and its subitems are all hidden through authorization controls. The heading for Item 2 then appears as 'Subitem 2 of Item 1' instead of 'Menu'.
    There's an example here:
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11837:1
    Anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks for your time.
    John.
    PS. Any idea where my previous post on this subject has disappeared to?

    Carl - in the example on htmldb.oracle.com, in Menu2 I'm hiding all the elements in Category 1 (parent and children), although not the 'grandparent' (Menu2).
    I'm therefore still expecting the menu title to be 'Menu2', because that's Category 2's parent.
    It doesn't appear to be an issue with the sequence of the items, because I've changed all those about and still got the same problem.
    To be more specific, again using the htmldb.oracle.com example, in Menu2 we have:
    Menu2
      Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 1 of Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 2 of Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 3 of Category 1 (Hidden)
        Item 4 of Category 1 (Hidden)
      Category 2
        Item 1 of Category 2
        Item 2 of Category 2
    And Scott - thanks for picking up the previous post - for some reason I couldn't for the life of me find that yesterday (in fact I still can't find it when I search).
    Thanks for looking into this.
    Regards,
    John.

  • Sharing a library and changing an ID ?

    A little background first...
    I had a Windows XP machine - installed my ipod everything was fine.
    Subsequently got fed up with windows and decided to junk it altogether...
    Purchased a MacBook AND an iMac at the same time to replace the machines I was using with Windows.
    Got some great help on here that told me how to reformat my iPod to "Mac" (I realize I probably didn't need to but I wanted the stink of Microsoft gone from my house)
    Now I have a couple little issues and I'm not sure how best to handle them so I'm looking for some suggestions.
    When I first got my iPod I only had Windows so I set up an id (we'll call it WindowsID)
    Then when I got my Mac I set up a .mac ID.
    I would like to exclusively use my .mac id - how do I get my iTunes store account to transfer everything from my WindowsID to my .mac id?
    My other question is this...
    I have my iTunes library on my laptop presently because I want to be able to take my music with me to create playlists and such if I'm on the road for an extended period of time but I also want to be able to play all of this on my iMac when I'm home. (including the stuff I bought off of iTunes) Anybody have any good solutions for this dilemma?
    Thanks much!
    -Ryan

    Okay, apologies...I figured out how to share the library off my laptop over my network to my iMac. Still not sure about the userid for itunes issue.
    Thanks again!

  • Sharing Itunes library and backup on external drive

    Would appreciate if anyone can offer help on their experiences of external / NAS drives. I've been looking for the best solution to move my entire Itunes library to an external drive that I can put on the network so can have access from PC's, Mac and Iphone. Just recently moved to new MBP but still have PC's in home.
    Have looked at varying solutions and think I've got it narrowed down to going for either QNAP  TS212 NAS or dedicated Iomega Network hard drive but seem to come over a lot of conflicting reports of these items not working well with MAC, particularily some comments on the use of Iomega which is the more cost effective solution.
    A little background was planning on 2TB drives and partioning for Itunes library, Time Machine backups and PC backups. Have the S/W on MAC to read/write NTFS.
    From my research the dedicated NAS would be appear to be the best answer but a lot more expensive than a network drive.
    Can anyone advise of a network drive that they have experienced working well for this type of configuration?
    Also is there any issues with syncing Iphone to an external networked library?
    Any Advice Appreciated
    Thanks

    Trev,
    changing iTunes media folder location via preferences > advanced tells iTunes where to put new additions to your library, not where the current content is.
    also, with your library now on the NAS, you must make sure the NAS is mounted on your desktop before launching iTunes.
    ... still showed an issue with the file locations and the exclamation marks.
    you may have done something wrong initially (during re-locating your library to the NAS) because the exclamation marks usually appear when media files were moved using the finder and iTunes lost track of their location.
    you might be able to use this script:
    iTunes Track CPR v1.3
    This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx)."

  • Coding ABAP using LDB PNP and authorizations problems

    This post requires a blend of ABAP and HCM skills.
    When coding my own ABAP using LDB PNP, the LDB will provide me with the employees selected but will skip those for which I do not have access (regarding Authorizations settings) to one or more of the infotypes declared in the program.
    As a programmer I would like to receive from the LDB the information that an employee is skipped so that I can handle the exception.
    Do you know how can I get this information from the LDB?
    Thanks

    I dont know if PNP can do it but PNPCE can:
    at END-OF-SELECTION call macro PNP_GET_AUTH_SKIPPED_PERNRS
    it will provide a list of skiped PERNRs

    I was on a different computer and then i accidently pressed erase and sync and i did't know whet it ment. When I turned on my ipod all my songs and videos had been erased I had $71 dollars worth on it and I want all my old song back. I had just gotten a new ipod and I had to go on a trip so I didn't have time to make a back-up disk. Help would be great I really want my songs and movie back.

    - Have you reset your iPod:
