  • Sharing airport express internet connection with router and wired network

    Dear,
I want to set up the following network, but can't succeed.
    Components:
2 Powermacs quad G5's (airport and two ethernet ports)
2 Powerbooks G4 (airport and 1 ethernet port)
1 broadband wired router (1 Wan and 4 Lan ports)
    1 airport express
    1 cable internet connection.
1 LaCie Ethernet Disk mini 300 GB
The internet connection is at the other site of the office (little architecture office). It is not possible to get the internetconnection directly to the desk wth the computer. 1 Powermac G5 is set up to share his internet connection. (Share via airport with ethernet 1). The ethernet 1 port is connected to the Wan port of the wired router. The other Powermac G5's ethernet 1 port is connected to Lan 1 of the router. The LaCie Ethernet Disk mini 300 GB is connected to the the Lan 2 of the router.
All the conputers get their IP adresses bij DHCP. The router is set to distribute IP adresses. Without the router and the LaCie everything works fine. There is internet connection on every computer and filesharing in between them is possible.
I like to be able to do the following.
Use airport connection on the two powerbooks, for internet and access to the network. Use the wired connection between the powermacs and the lacie for filesharing. On the second powermac use internetconnection through the router. With this configuration is it possible to copy files fast between the powermacs and the lacie harddisk.
At the moment I'm trying to get internet connection on the second powermac. The ethernet port gives me a proper IP-adress and tells me that I can connect to the internet, but it won't let me go on the internet and when I turn the airport back on, safari buggs. Without the ethernet cable connected I can go on the internet without anny problem, but off cours the fast filesharing isn't possible any more.
A drawing of the desired network can be downloaded at the folowing website
    http://homepage.mac.com/maesen_jeroen/FileSharing14.html
Is there a possible sollution to this problem?
    thank you verry much
    Jeroen

Disable the DHCP server on your wired router. Since your Power Mac G5 Jeroen is sharing Internet, it is already providing DHCP.
Use airport connection on the two powerbooks, for internet and access to the network.
Sorry, but it is not possible for the PowerBooks to access the subnet created by the Power Mac G5 Jeroen.
Use the wired connection between the powermacs and the lacie for filesharing.
    Shouldn't be a problem.
On the second powermac use internetconnection through the router.
On Power Mac G5 Jeroen, you will need to disable the firewall or open the ports through the firewall needed by Power Mac G5 Nico to access the Internet.
Is there a possible sollution to this problem?
What you have is incredibly complicated. A much simpler solution is to
Get a 2nd AirPort Express (AX).
Use WDS to wirelessly connect the 2 AXs.
Connect an Ethernet switch (or hub) to the Ethernet port on the 2nd AX.
Connect all of your Ethernet clients (2 Power Mac G5s and LaCie) to this switch (or hub).
In this configuration your PowerBooks will have wireless access and all of your Ethernet devices will get IP addresses from the AX connected to the Internet.

  • Sharing Internet with Xbox 360 *DNS* -- Previous Posts Didn't Help!

    I am running OSX 10.5.1
I want to share my laptop's wireless connection with my xbox via the ethernet port.
My router's IP address is: 192.168.1.1
My PowerBook's airport IP address is: 192.168.1.3
Under Sharing, I have set it to share my Airport with Ethernet.
*In the ethernet network panel of my PowerBook, my settings are:*
    Configure: Manual
    IP Address: 192.168.2.1
    Subnet Masks: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1 (if this is left blank, the xbox can't correctly obtain an IP address, don't ask me why, and occasionally, it stops my laptop from getting internet... weird)
    DNS Server: BLANK
    Search Domain: BLANK
*On my xbox, I have set it to:*
    IP Settings: Manual
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.2.1
    DNS Settings: Manual
    Primary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1
    Secondary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1
it gets as far as obtaining an IP address, but it fails the DNS check!!!
I am at my wit's end!!!
What can I do!?!?!?! I have tried everything.

I'm not sure I can help troubleshoot your issue specifically, but I just went through the same process it sounds like you're trying to do and I found the following link to be very helpful:

  • Sharing internet with iPod touch

Now, what I have is a MacBook with OS 10.5.4 installed and my Internet connection is through cable modem and it's a Ethernet Connection and I want to share my Internet through Airport with my iPod Touch.
I have followed the instruction about "Sharing your Internet connection", but it is still not work.
In my iPod touch, I can see the IP Address 168.254.13.167 and the Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 only. The Router and DNS is blank. Also when I open the safari with iPod touch, the error message " Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server" is shown. Why is that? Please help me and sorry for my english.

Try unplugging the cable modem, wait, and then plugging it in again.
-----> I tried, but it's still not work
Is this your system: cable modem -> Airport (expess? extreme?) ---- Macbook / iPod Touch?
------> For my system, cable modem -> Macbook (Airport extreme)
Is there another router in the picture? The 168.254.13.167 IP address doesn't look like an Apple IP. It should look like 10.XX.XX.XX.
-------> what do you mean of "in the picture"
Also the System Preferences>Network>AirPort, in the Status field, is said "the AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet. "

  • My xp cant connect to my macbook pro's Airport with password

hi, i have a problem to connect my xp to my macbook pro with a password
for example, if I set up my airport with 40 or 128 password, my xp will never connect to my mac
but, if i set up the the network without any password, my xp are able to connect to my mac and using the internet.
I just dont want anybody to use my network and is there any solution for me to connect my xp to my mac with a password. Thank you.

finally, I help myself. I found that _*O2 Connection Manager*_ can help me to connect my mac with password.
remember I am using WEP 128 Bit
Just remember to tick the boxes saying "Shared Mode Network Authentication" and "Active Key"
in your O2 Connection manager when you insert the password.

  • Sharing AirPort over Computer-to-Computer Ethernet

As the title says I am trying to share my 17" iMac G4's internet connection (over AirPort) with a 15" iMac G4 over ethernet. I followed the directions over here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh914.html but the computers still do seem to be able to see each other. I also enabled Internet Connection Sharing.
I really do not want to shell over $150 for an airport card for the aging iMac. Why is this not working? Could someone give me some specific step-by-step instructions please?
Also it is a normal networking cable not a crossover but I thought the iMac was supposed to auto-detect, does it not?
I hope all of this is clear and I would really appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to help me out.
    Thanks

    Hy Dylan,
There are 2 different things here :
    1. Connect the 2 Macs and verify they see each other (via the Finder's "Connect to server..." for instance)
    2. Once they see each other, share the Airport Internet connection from one to the other
Fort step #1, once they are connected by a cable, you need to verify they have an IP address (Network pane in the System Preferences) belonging to the same network. Either you enter it manually (because you have already set up a small home network) or you start the "Internet sharing" and the 2nd Mac will automatically get its address from the first one (the one having the Airport connection). You should the allow "Mac file sharing" (I am not in front of my Mac right now so it is probably not the precise name) in the System preferences Sharing pane.
Shortly after you have done this, the Macs should see each other in the Network view of the Finder.
Once this is achieved, it means you have a working network, you should activate Internet sharing on your 1st Mac and check that you are sharing your Airport Internet connection through your Ethernet network. You can then test it is working by using your favorite web browser and surfing wherever you want.
If this works, then you only have to allow POP (port 110) and SMTP (port 25) traffic on Mac #1 firewall so that Mac #2 cat get and send mail as well.
If you cannot surf from Mac #2, then something is still wrong and I suggest you come back here with some more detailed information about the network addresses and firewalls setup.

  • How do you use Airport extreme at hotels etc, when traveling? I can plug my computer into the Airport with my ethernet but how does Airport pickup signal?

How do you use Airport extreme at hotels etc, when traveling? I can plug my computer into the Airport with my ethernet but how does Airport pickup signal? What equipment & devices do I need to travel with to make this possible?

You may mean the AirPort Express.....not AirPort Extreme.....as the Express is a popular travel router.
The whole idea behind using this device is that the hotel must provide an Ethernet jack in the hotel room. Then you connect the AirPort Express to the Ethernet jack with an Ethernet cable and configure it to provide your own wireless network in the room. You still have to agree to terms, pay the fees, etc.
The problem with this approach is that it is getting very difficult to find hotels in North America that prrovide an Ethernet jack....most have moved to wireless networks and the others are not far behind.
So, if the hotel is already providing a wireless signal, the AirPort Express is of no use in that situation.
If you normally stay at the same hotels, and know that they provide Ethernet ports, an AirPort Express might make sense in terms of convenience.

  • How do I stop sharing mail with other users on my computer

How do I stop sharing mail with other users on my Macbook pro?

You may have to set up different user accounts in the computer if you wish to
continue sharing the computer among other people, and only use the Mail app.
Otherwise, if you use a webmail such as yahoo, gmail, or other, just use a browser
and login each time; then there is no saving of your email to the computer as such.
I've never used an email client software, nor had an ISP based email account. So
my numerous computers have never downloaded email into software. No loss.
But the answers do include setting up extra user accounts, not admin level, so the
other users do not mess with the operating system; a standard account or just a
guest account to use a browser to access web-based login email accounts, works.
There are third-party email client for OS X, some are free applications, others are
part of a larger browser product, such as SeaMonkey, & other Mozilla derivatives.
They provide an email segment or client aspect; unlike Firefox that's a browser.
Setup information should be within the Help viewer in the computer itself. Or by a
simple search online, including the OS X version and any email client software
your computer may have installed. Some browser software includes email client.
Also there are several ways to go in this matter. I don't see questions, only answers.
To learn how the Mail application works, if you want to import everyone's mail, then
figure how to set up user accounts in the OS X. Or use web-mail & login by browser.
Hopefully you can find the best solution for the unasked question.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Family sharing works with different regional accounts

So I have my aple ID based in Ireland, and I just setup the family sharing option with my mom living in Portugal.
Will she see all my purchases even if they are from my country? and more important: can she download them if they are country  store specific?
Usually if you search for an app that is not available in your country you cannot download it unless you have an account for that specific country.

All your Applications should be in /Applications folder by default to be accessible to all users and to be seen by updaters. If you created an "Applications" folder within your Home folder, then only you will be able to use those Applications. Otherwise there should be no permissions issues.
Check Permissions Inside a Home folder:
    • Navigate to /Users/~(Home)/Library.
    • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
    • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
    • Make sure the user is the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
    • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.

So far if I set it as above then shared does not show up? I have to set the firewall to set access to specific applications and services to get access to my windows based hard drive.

Ok I solved it myself. Not an ideal solution as I have to connect it manually each time but it will do... Unless anyone has a way to have it auto connect when I start the mac.

It sounds like you might have broken links to your content. Either repair these by putting the files you've recovered where iTunes expects to find them or delete the broken entries then go to iTunes Store > Purchased > Music > Not on This Computer, and click the download links.

  • How to use shared variables with native c programs

    Hello
What is the way to use shared variables with native c programs?
I have a c/c++ program that uses the NIDAQmx C-API to perform measurements. Now I want to communicate to a LabVIEW program via shared variables.
Is there a C-API for shared variables as there is for the NIDAQmx functionality? Where can I find further documentation? The document "Using the LabVIEW Shared Variable" mentions that one "can read and write to shared variables in ANSI C", but there are no hints about how and where to look.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi user42,
with CVI 8.0, you cannot create or configure shared variables. However, you can read or write to an already configured LabVIEW 8.x shared variable from CVI using the DataSocket API.
In order to do this you need to have and DataSocket 4.3 or higher installed.
Here's a forum post about using the DataSocket functions a LabVIEW Shared Variables:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=180&message.id=24569&requireLogin=False
With CVI 8.1 and Measurement Studio 8.1 it's possible to use Shared Variables via the Network Varaiable Library (check out the end of the "Network-Published Shared Variable" section within the "Using the LabVIEW Shared Variable" documentation and the following link).

  • Best practice for sharing data with model window

    Hi team,
what would the best practice for sharing data with a modal
window be ? I use a modal window to display record details from a
record list, but i am not quite sure how to access the data from
the components in the main application in the modal window.
    Any hints would be welcome
    Best
    Frank

Pass a reference to the parent into the modal popup. Then you
can reference anything in the parent scope.
    I haven't done this i 2.0 yet so I can't give you code. I'll
    post if I do.
Oh, also, you can reference the parent using parentDocument.
So in the popup you could do:
    parentDocument.myPublicVariable = "whatever";

  • Sharing Internet with xbox 360

Hi, I have my Powerbook sharing internet with my Xbox 360. The connection works well and I am able to play games, but the NAT is listed as Moderate, with a Moderate NAT I am not able to do private voice chats with people. Does anyone know how I can get my NAT to Open? Also, I would like to share my media with my Xbox that is stored on a Windows XP computer. I followed all the steps given at www.xbox.com/pcsetup, but the Xbox still does not see the computer.
Any help would be appreciated, Thnx

If you are using Internet Sharing on your PowerBook you can forget trying to modify NAT settings or make nearly any other adjustments. There are very, very, very few options.
If you want to make adjustments like that you need to get a real base station.
