Sharing an audiobook

I've downloaded an audiobook directly onto my iPod Touch does anyone know how I can put the same audiobook onto my iPad and my Ipod Nano so I can if I want to listen to it on those machines?
Or is there an idiot sheet describing how to do this?
Thanks.

You should be able to redownload it to your iTunes library on your computer and directly to the iPad by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Once in the iTunes library you can sync it to the Nana and iPod.
You cn also get it in the iTunes library by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

How do I find an audiobook my brother purchased on iTunes when using family sharing?  When I go to iTunes and family purchases and then click on his name, I can see his music, TV Shows, and Apps, but no option to select or see his Audiobooks.  Please help.

Audiobooks can't be shared in Family Sharing.

I had an audiobook on my MacBook pro that I'd like to share with my other apple products. I can't see the file on my iPhone or iPad. My MacBook is dead.

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download, and if your Macbook doesn't work then you won't be able to share or sync it from it.  Do you have it on a backup and another computer that you can use to sync it to your iPad and/or iPhone ?  If you don't have a backup of it (and it's still in the store) then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download of it : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Tried to use home sharing to transfer itunes library from old pc to new -- however it only brings over the music, did not bring audiobooks- My question is do I need to delete itunes from my new pc when I redo using external hard drive

Trying to transfer iTunes library from old windows 7 pc to new windows 8.1.  Used home sharing, but not what I wanted, I want everything on the new so I can discard the old pc -  so now all I have is my music library on new pc thru the cloud none of my Audible audiobooks came over - My question is do I need to delete iTunes off my new pc before I load it in from a external hard drive?

You might need to make sure neither is going to sleep (System Prefs > Energy Saver)
Also check your settings under System Prefs > Security. My sisters new laptop kept logging off due to some setting there.

  • Why are my audiobooks not going through home sharing?

why are my audiobooks not going through for home sharing.

According to this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3525692), it looks like you are not able to share audiobooks through Home Sharing:
You can share MP3, AIFF, WAV, AAC, and radio station links, but you cannot share iTunes Store Audio Books, Audible spoken word content, or QuickTime sound files.
You can leave iTunes feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Missing shared music and audiobooks

I've set my mac to share my music library, with the share entire library box checked. None of the macs that access this share can see my audiobooks – two are visible but there are over forty on the source mac. Any ideas why?

...and does iTunes have to be running on the host Mac for other computers to see the shared library?

  • Sharing iPhone Apps and Audiobooks

    Hi,
I've been freely moving between 3 Macs: a work MacBook, and two home Macs. Occasionally, I make purchases (iPhone apps, audiobooks, and music) on one of the computers, but am surprised that they don't show up on all computers. Each of the computers is logged into iTunes and Mobile Me with the same account - but there's no obvious way to sync all of these automatically. It seems like it's possible to do manually by turning on home sharing, and finding something that's on one computer, but not on others.
There's got to be an easier way to share these purchases, and to avoid transferring them one by one to the 'master' computer that syncs with the iPhone. So, what am I missing?
    Thanks in advance!

    You are missing nothing.
When you download a song you get the one download. After that it is up to you to move it wherever you like it.
Home Share has made that easier, but I know of no way to automatically distribute. It is probably helpful - as far as music theft is concerned - for it not to be easy to distribute.
    Sorry.

  • How can you share audiobooks in family sharing?

We use Family Sharing in our family. But on the "purchase" items in iTunes on ipads and iphones there only appears Music, Films and TV Programmes. No Audiobooks. Did Apple just forget them or can I find them somewhere else?

Audiobooks are a one-time only download (which I think is a restriction set by audible.com who supply them to Apple) - you will need to sync/copy them onto each device or computer that you want them on, they won't show in the cloud for redownloading.

  • How do you share audiobooks on family sharing?

I am the organizer on our family sharing and I purchased an audiobook for my son hoping he could access and download it on his iPod touch.  But he cannot find it on his iPod.  Are audiobooks included in family sharing?  And how do you know whether something you purchase will be able to be shared or not?

Home sharing involves using the iTunes library on your computer.  If you open iTunes on your Mac you can see Audiobooks on the left sidebar under Library:
If you don't see the left sidebar, go to Vies>Show Sidebar.  If you can see the left sidebar but don't see Audiobooks, go to iTunes>Preferences and check Audiobooks in the Show section at the top of the General tab.
If you don't see your Audiobooks in your library after selecting Audiobooks on the left sidebar, connect the device that has the audiobook to your computer, then go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer a copy to your iTunes library.  Once it's in your library, your can transfer a copy to other computers on your network using Home Sharing (see http://macmost.com/sharing-ios-apps-with-family.html).

  • Audiobooks - sharing between computers on same account

    Hey guys,
I have various audiobooks that are in my home laptop. I'd love to listen to them at work, on my work computer, like i do with my music. But for some reason they do not seem to want to sync. I'm even struggling to get them to sync to my iphone. Even though i have the "sync audiobooks" box ticked in the phone menu on itunes.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
In iChat to Add a Screen Name as an Account.
If iChat has been launched before open it and go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts.
Click the + Button lower left of the list (It should at lest have Bonjour in it).
This opens a pane with a drop down as the top item.
This drop down has 5 choices in iChat 4 and above.
Choosing the AIM one is for AIM Registered names (At their Site)
If you registered in the form "username" then enter that.
As it is possible to Register as "username@email address" then you have to enter it as you registered the name.
However adding @Mac.com or a MobileMe name in those choices has the software add the Relevant @mac.com or @me.com bits and you only have to type the username part.
    Adding Buddies.
With your Buddy list Logged in go to the + button at the Bottom of the Buddy List.
In the options select Add Buddy.
In iChat 5 type the name of the Buddy as you were told it (for @mac.com ones that means the whole [email protected] Same for MobileMe names ).
iChat 4 had a drop down at this point to chose the type of Account the Buddy has.
If you have iChat 4 then chose the relevant Account type and then type in the bits (username only) in the text field.
See here for Pic and more http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/versions/ichatvers4/HowtoAddBuddy.html
It is this pane that is different between the two versions
That Account name line does not have the Drop down in iChat 5.
SO the iMac gets the Account set up as the MobileMe name and Adds the AIM Buddy
The Laptop Adds the AIM name as Account and the MobileMe name as Buddy.
    Hope that helps.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • HT201272 can we download previously purchased audiobook to other shared items?

In France we can download Music, Books and Apps from the Cloud (no movies or TV Show unfortunately). But Can't we download previouly purchased Audiobooks? Did I miss something or is it the same than with movies or TV Shows? I can't see anything about this specific media on Apple Support FAQ.
    Thank you.
PS. If anybody knows when the "Previously Purchased" servicewill be available for Movies and TV Shorts in France, let me know too

You haven't got copies of them on your backup of your downloads/library ? You are only guaranteed one download of each item from the store (audiobooks and ringtonesare one-time only downloads ; other items are redownloadable depending upon what country that you are in and if they remain in your country's store), so you should be keeping a backup of all of your downloads. If they are still in your country's store then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a redownload.

  • Can my wife and I share audiobooks?

My wife and I have separate iTunes accounts but wish to share some audiobooks.  Can I download an audiobook from my wife's iTunes account (she uses an iPad) to my iPhone 5S?  It would seem appropriate to be able to synch to a different device and choose only the content wanted.  Is this correct?

  • Transferring protected WMA audiobooks to iTunes/iPhone using OverDrive Media Console

    Hi there,
My local library is now offering audiobooks. I have downloaded one, that went fine - I have the file and can listen to it. The problem is that I can't seem to transfer the WMA Audiobook to my iPhone using this software they provided (OverDrive Media Console), even though their website says that it can be transferred to apple devices (including my iPhone) and the library site says that this particular audiobook is permitted to be transferred to apple devices (including the iPhone).
When I try to Transfer using the OverDrive Media Console, I get this error:
"The OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard is not able to connect to iTunes. If you intend to transfer content to the iTunes Library and/or a supported Apple device, please note that iTunes v9.0.2 (or newer) is required. iTunes is available as a free download from Apple; visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download to download iTunes. If your system meets this requirement, please close any open iTunes dialog boxes then attempt to transfer again."
I have read that others have had the problem, but there are few solutions emerging, from what I can see anyway.
I have went to this website (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite) in my Internet Explorer browser and upgraded the Windows Media Player security version. OverDrive says my security upgrade version is 2.9.0.1.
My iTunes is up to date as far as I know. iTunes 10.4.0.80. Perhaps the recent update is something to do with this problem? I don't know. I am using Windows 7, and the OverDrive Media Console version is 3.2.0.5.
I have changed my iPhone settings to "Manually manage music and videos", as OverDrive requests this.
When I try to put these protected WMA Audiobook files into my Automatically Add to iTunes folder, I get an error message saying:
"One or more of the songs being added are in the protected WMA format, including the song "examplesongname01.wma", and could not be converted.
iTunes can only convert unprotected WMA songs. If you have the original CDs for these songs, you can import them using iTunes."
I have restarted iTunes, OverDrive Media Console, and my computer countless times. My home network sharing is turned off; I mention it as I saw someone had suggested that as a solution.
The two suggested solutions I haven't tried yet are:
    - convert them to MP3
    - uninstall and reinstall iTunes & OverDrive Media Console again.
I don't really want to uninstall iTunes. I have a lot of music and audiobooks; it takes half aday for iTunes to load them all up again. As for converting to MP3s; I don't know if this is legal. Plus, I don't know if these protected DRM files can be converted like that.
Ok, well I hope someone else was in the same boat & solved it. Otherwise it'd be a real shame if we couldn't get these protected WMA audiobooks onto our iPhones.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

Once you have downloaded the audiobook to Overdrive Media (OMC), you need to connect the Apple device to which you wish to transfer the ebook, then use the transfer button on OMC.  That converts it to an mp3 file.  The ebook cannot be transferred to iTunes.  iTunes is simply the medium used in the transfer to an Apple device.  The tutorial below covers all the specifics.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

  • Multiple Windows Accounts, Shared Music, Different User Settings...

So here is the background. I have a single computer that that we run iTunes on and purchase all of our content on using a single iTunes account. We keep all of this managed in a single iTunes library. My kids, wife and I all have iPods or iPhones that are synchronized with this library all using the same account on the PC called "iTunes".
Each person in my house has their own account on this Windows Vista PC for a variety of reasons (security being one). I would like for each person to be able to log into their own account, fire up iTunes and get all the same music from the shared folder of music, but allow them to manage independant playlists and song ratings.
In addition, when a new song is purchased, it should show up for each user automatically when they launch iTunes on their account. In other software I've used in the past, this is done with watchlists (folders that the software keeps an eye on and automatically adds new music from), but I've never seen a feature like this in iTunes.
Given the amount of content I have in my library (16GB) having multiple libraries with multiple copies of the content is not ideal and seems very wasteful.
I was hopeful when v.9 came out that the "Home Share" feature might help out, but it does not. You cannot run iTunes on two accounts at the same time on the same PC (a problem most other software overcame back when Windows 98 came out) and iTunes has to be running on both in order to perform the share/sync. This also could have been solved if the Home Share features were run as a service instead of natively inside iTunes.
As best as I can tell after researching the Internet on my issue, I still don't think iTunes can do these simple things that other software figured out a long time ago. So I may be asking more for new features in iTunes v.10 than asking for an answer to my problem. But if someone else has figured this out, please let me know. I will be pleasantly surprised!

Thanks for pointing me to the iTunes Folder Watch program. It looks like this will solve my immediate needs. It's a little clunky in spots, but does handle adding new files very well. And it only cost about $10 to get the fully functioning version with the automatic monitoring in the background.
I copied the iTunes library files to each account, setup a watch folder that points to the location of the iTunes library content and all the music syncs up perfectly without duplicates. I have yet to test the applications, but music, movies, TV Shows, audiobooks, and podcasts all work fine.
If anyone else is considering this product, just make sure you double check your file location in the iTune settings to make sure each account is pointing to the same location and is organizing the content in the same way or else the individual account libraries will fight against each other to organize all the content where it is configured to put it. Copying the library files isn't enough since some of these settings are in the Windows Registry.
I made this mistake at first. I had all the accounts pointing to the same folder, but one of them (the original) had the "Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization" turned on which categorizes all content into folders based on type such as music, movies, podcasts, etc. Since the others were organizing just based on artist and album this caused the accounts to try to reorganize the files when Folder Watcher would tell it there were new files to manage.
All in all, this solves most of my concerns, but I'm still surprised Apple hasen't added this natively into the iTunes product. Especially when this guy figured out how to write the software to do it and is only charging about 10 bucks to do it. Well I hope this guy makes a million bucks off his little product bacause he surely deserves it!
