Sharing an iMovie as an MP4 with MP3 audio

I have an iMovie that is complete. I have uploaded a Quicktime movie to Google video. The video plays but no audio. They are telling me that they prefer MP4 with MP3 audio. If I go to share in iMovie, I choose "export" mode. This gives me the MP4 option, but no way to change the audio to mp3. Am I missing something?

iMovie doesn't use (or create) .mp3 (MPEG-1 Layer 3) audio.
From the Google video upload pages:
Technical Requirements:
We accept many popular formats, such as AVI, ASF, QuickTime, Windows Media and MPEG formats. For example, .avi, .asf, .mov, .wmv, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .ra, .ram, and .mod are all acceptable file extensions. Please note that we currently do not accept Flash files. Specific video codecs we accept include H.264, H.263, MPEG 1/2/4 and motion JPEG.
The video must contain recognizable video content (video container files that do not contain video will not be accepted).
The frame rate should be above 12 frames per second.
The bitrate must be above 260 Kbps.
The video must be at least 10 seconds long.
If you have a video in another format, we will do our best to interpret it.
Quality Recommendations:
If possible, we suggest uploading the original source file. However, we recommend the specifications below for maximum quality and reasonable file size:
MPEG4 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 2 mbps
MPEG2 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 5 mbps
30 frames per second
640x480 resolution
4:3 frame
de-interlace
MPEG-4 Video and AAC audio codecs in a .mov container should work just fine.

  • Audio from imported video doesn't sync with mp3 audio imported

I thought I had a neat way to easily "back up" my audio of an event by using an mp3 recorder on the podium to capture speaker and just recording with on-cam mic at the camcorder, so not to have to mess with wireless mics and jack connections on the camcorder. My thought was that since these are both "digital" recordings of the same event, they would stay in sync. Yet when I put them both in the time line of iMovie, the mp3 sound file does not stay in sync, falling behind. Every sentence or so I have to cut some of the file out to shorten it and bring it back into sync. Any guess why these don't stay in sync?
    PV-GS500 DV tape camcorder, sansa m250 mp3
Cutting the sound file to keep it in sync worked, and I needed in for an event I just recently did, where the first speaker, who spoke briefly, did not turn on the room mic, and couldn't be heard well by the camera mic. So we now hear perfectly what that first speaker said, but I was disappointed that I had to trim after every sentence to keep the mp3 audio in sync.
    Thanks, Dale

I'm assuming that you are using the Sound class to control
the MP3 sounds? If that is the case then they will not be sync with
your timeline and if your animations are too much for the SWF to
stay at the 30fps rate then it will slow down to complete the
    animations.
One way to sync them up would be to place them in a layer in
your timeline and then in the Parameters box at the bottom set the
    Sync dropdown to Stream.
Then if your movie slows the audio and animations will still
    be together.
This is not as flexible as you may currently have it but it
    might work for you.

  • Apple -- Fix iDVD to work with MP3 audio! Geez...

For months now, iDVD will not burn a DVD if MP3 audio is used in either iMovie HD or iDVD 6.0.3. Apple, fix this ASAP; it's getting to be a real bore. iDVD is advertised as working with iLife, presumably this meant to include MP3 formated audio from iTunes. So come on Apple, get with the program (no pun intended) and fix this!

I am not sure where the joke is. Rendering and compression takes a good deal of time on any platform. The more compression (going to CD) the more time it's going to take. There was a podcast outlining a HD workflow and some of the trade-offs that were made so that each frame wouldn't take 3 minutes to render (keeping in mind that 60 seconds has 1,800 frames, NTSC). Real time compression cards are available, last I looked starting at the $2,000 range. So there are solutions- you just don't like them and expect Apple to do something about it, presumably within the iLife budget. Me too I suppose. But I don't really think that's going to happen.

  • Problem with MP3 audio books - truncating

My shuffle is truncating the end of each part (track?) of my MP3 audio books. It loses the last one or two sentences. Is there something I can do to fix this?
I'm using the OverDrive Media Console to borrow books from the library. I have no problem with WMA format books (they appear as audiobooks in the shuffle listing). The MP3 books show up as "Music".
I'm manually managing music, which is required to transfer audio from OverDrive to my shuffle.
    MC754LL/A iPod shuffle 2 GB
    Model A1373
    software version is 1.0.1

I use "My Media Mall" (http://www.mymediamall.net) to check out audio books from the library. They come in 2 formats - mp3 & WMA. When I check out a book it downloads to OverDrive Media Console. Then in OverDrive I transfer the book to my shuffle (through the manually mange the storage option). If I then start itunes, I can see what's been downloaded and what all the properties are. By default WMA books are loaded as audiobooks and there is an automatic play list created. The mp3 books are loaded, by default, into the music section.
Per your original suggestion, I converted the "music" attribute to an "audiobook" attribute, which automatically move the files and created a playlist for the book. It did not stop the truncation problem. I then converted the book back to music, and selected the "gapless album" feature. This has significantly reduced the amount of truncation so that it's gone from a couple of sentences to less than a full sentence.
If I listen to the book on my computer (windows) through itunes, there are no gaps, and no problem automatically finding the next part to play.
FYI - each audiobook is made of several parts (usually 8 - 11 for the books I listen to). Each part contains multiple chapters. Some books only break parts over a chapter break, others seem to divide the parts into semi-equal sizes. If in the shuffle I "skip to next track", it starts the next part. The voice-over feature on the shuffle announces each playlist (eg. book1, book2) and then each individual part (book1 part 01, book2 part 02, etc.). Usually when I start a book, I use the voice-over to find the playlist instead of locating a specific part. If I've been listening to the book via itunes, then I'll have to step through the playlist until the second portion where it lists the individual portions.

  • Why is compressor 4.1.1 only giving me mp4s with 128kbps audio?

    Hi everyone,
I'm using the mp4 encoders a lot in Compressor. It recently was updated to 4.1.1 and the OS to Mavericks 10.9.2. The bitrate slider in the settings has absolutely no effect on the resulting file regardless of the source file and the settings being used. It only gives me audio with 128 kbps.
Does anyone have an idea where the problem is?
    Thanks alot
    Markus

HI Markus, just a heads up to other alternatives suggested by Russ. I haven't encountered this error myself. The compressor.app V4.1.x MAY certainly have an flaw in this part of the  UI. You might like to try this out to see and also happily complete you job. Here are two suggestions.
    Plan A:
Use Compressor.app V4.1.x Command LIne Interface (CLI) with your own customised setting. The  Compressor CLI is really good for a quick transcode. Syntax like most takes a little time to learn. It's rather dumbed down now  in Compressor.app V4.1.
in Compressor.app V4.1.x, make a customised setting for your AUDIO or VIDEO with AUDIO and set the SLIDER or the LIST BOX to the desired setting B/Rate using the inspector.
either create one or OPTION+DRAG one form the APPLE settings.... go grab an AUDIO one to try
rename it to "markus_fat_audio"  (click and overtype)
from my memory this should be automatically saved in your home directory's ~/Library/Application Support/compressor/Settings/markus_fat_audio.cmprstng
    launch the Terminal.app (/applications/utilities/terminal.app) and
paste this first part of a long command into it: /applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/compressor -batchname markus-audio -jobpath
now use the FINDER and DRAG and DROP your SOURCE.audio.mov file into the terminal at end of the previous text.. let's say the file is /volumes/sourcearray01/masters/markus-master.mov. so you get this
    /applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/compressor -batchname markus_audio -jobpath /volumes/sourcearray01/masters/markus-master.mov
now type the text " -settingpath " at the end of the string in the ternimal pane.. blank delimiters please.
now add the -settingpath paramaters using your newly created customised settings: markus_fat_audio to the command string.
use the FINDER to navigate to your ~/Library/Application Support/compressor/Settings library then
select markus_fat_audio.cmprstng and drag and drop that into the terminal.
    /applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/compressor -batchname markus-audio -jobpath /volumes/sourcearray01/masters/markus-master.mov -settingpath ~/Library/Application Support/compressor/Settings/markus_fat_audio.cmprstng
then type the text string " - locationpath " at the end of the terminal string. Your string command should now look like the following....
    /applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/compressor -batchname markus-audio -jobpath /volumes/sourcearray01/masters/markus-master.mov -settingpath ~/Library/Application Support/compressor/Settings/markus_fat_audio.cmprstng -locationpath
lastly, add the path of the destination TARGET output file. For demo sake, lets call it /markus_dist.mp4 and put it on the the file system somewhere at say ~/desktop.
in the terminal type the path of the output file called ~/desktop/markus_dist.mp4
your final terminal command string should look something like this.. make sure no blanks and the "-' are included.
    /applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/compressor -batchname markus_audio -jobpath /volumes/sourcearray01/masters/markus-master.mov -settingpath ~/Library/Application\ Support/compressor/Settings/markus_fat_audio.cmprstng -locationpath ~/desktop/markus_dist.mp4
Press enter and watch the batch take off. Review any errors in ~/Library/Compressor/Logs (use Console.app)
    or.... if that doesn't work..
    Plan B
use ye old QUICKTIME 7 PRO (you need a licence for it) and simply EXPORT the audio using the vast selection of options.
i added this last because most don't have a separate QT 7 pro licence these days. It DOES run ok in 10.9
i believe you need a paid up licence (a licenced registration)  for this separate app (2004?).. it was not included after or around the OSX 10.5 time.. (i'll stand corrected)
Post your results for others to see.

  • Problems with MP3 audio playbacks

I commonly have trouble with Firefox when trying to listen to an MP3 playback using Firefox. When I switch to Safari, everything works. What can be wrong? Here is an example http://www.kleinartistworks.com/recordings/Hammer%20Carl.mp3 This recording is about an hour long but on Firefox plays out in ajust a few minutes. Is there something I need to install, or activate?

    Hi cabrackett-
Sometimes, the video or audio content in a web page cannot be properly downloaded and displayed in Firefox. A required plugin may be missing, outdated, blocked, in conflict with another plugin or extension, or the content may be blocked for some reason. This article will help you solve these problems.

  • Importing .ts or .mp4 with multiple audio tracks.

So like I posted over in the after effects forum I have a file that has 3 audio tracks and 1 video tracks.
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6fpUcYWvpN1YjlsdVVzYTNCZzA/edit?usp=sharing
Now I asked a teacher in multimedia graphics and he told me that I could pull it into Premiere and do something that would allow me to see it or in audition. So I'm just rying to figure out what would be the quickest way to access this and seperate the tracks or at least see them.

    Hi SN Synthetic Wolf,
Yes, this seems to be a common problem amongst those capturing game play with narration. Unfortunately, these screen capture programs have audio where only the first stream is detected by Premiere Pro. I also found this tutorial, which basically explains the same process, but with VirtualDub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJW1BxtgoyI&noredirect=1
You might want to file a feature request for detecting other audio streams coming from screen capture software: http://adobe.ly/feature_request. Thanks for reporting back.

  • IMovie: exporting to Google Video/mp3 issue

I would like to export an iMovie project to a format that Google Video accepts. Google Video prefers mpeg 4 video with mp3 audio. iMovie "expert settings" allows mpeg 4 export, but the only audio options for this are AAC or "none". Does anyone know how I can either:
    - Add some type of plugin or installable codec that enables mp3 audio with mpeg 4 video as an iMovie export option?
    - What software to use to convert from another iMovie export format to mpeg4/mp3?
I currently own Toast 6 and standard Quicktime.
    Any advice much appreciated!

"MPeg Streamclip" is a free download. Get it and install it in your applications folder. It is a totally great application for doing all kinds of conversions. Export your iMovie project to Quicktime format. Then fire up MPeg Streamclip and drag your quicktime movie to the pane and drop it. Go to 'File' drag to 'Export to MP4' and another screen will open up. Choose "iPod" this setting works great for the Google videos. Trust the settings chosen by Streamclip. It may take a while to convert, but when finished, you wil be able to upload to the Google video upload page. You may want to do this before going to bed. It wil be ready when you get up! I have 4 videos on the Google site. I did all four by using "MPeg Streamclip" My latest upload is "Feather Falls 2006" Check it out and good luck

  • MP3 audio on an MPEG-4

Can the iPod playback an MPEG-4 video with MP3 audio?

    I do not believe so.
This is from the iPod Tech Specs page:
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
No mention of MP3 audio in the MPEG-4 format. This usually means its not supported.

  • How do you make MP3 audio files?

I'm running for public office, and a local newspaper invited candidates to submit statements, along with MP3 audio files for display on its website.
So how does one make an MP3 audio file? Is this something I can do with my MacBook Pro and Leopard alone, or do I need to obtain a special software program?
    Thanks.

    Hi David!
As Francine mentioned, you will want to use the audio production software that came with your Mac, called Garageband. This will let you record speech, and even layer in music, etc. And when everything is set as you like it, the sound file can be exported in a variety of formats. It will provide a great basic audio recording solution for strictly voice and talking, but you can take things one step further and layer in a music track as an intro or outro if desired for a little more flair, edit out mistakes, etc. A great program that comes right with your Mac. There are nice basic tutorials on the Apple website which give an introduction to Garageband. Good luck David!

    • Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD or other res.)
    • Close iMovie
    • Open iDVD and select to start a New iDVD Project

  • NO sound with mp3's and in imovie

I upgraded the quicktime app to the latest version using software update so it's version is 7.1.0. now none of my mp3's will play in quicktime nor will they play in imovie or keynote. The mp3's will play in itunes though. what happened in the latest update to do this? i have a movie that i need to have done for a presentation this coming weekend. i have tried to remake the movie several times in imovie and each time i am able to import the mp3 yet it will not play. i tried to play a .aiff file and it worked so i know QT is still able to play some files. i downloaded the reinstaller for QT and ran it and restarted the computer and still the same problem. anyone else having this type of issue and anyone know how i can fix this ASAP. Thanks

Found something very interesting just now.. as i posted i am having problems with the sound in QT 7.1. i found that there is a plug in called QuicktimeComponents.component in the main library qt folder. there will be other plug-ins there if you have plug-ins for QT. this certain plugin is causing the sound not to play. i went through every plug-in and check to see if it was wrking by opening and quitting after putting 1 plug-in bck in the library folder at a time. when i got to this plug-in it was the one that would cause QT to not recognize the mp3 or possibly mp2 movie file. hope this helps. quicktime will run fine when you toss that certain plug-in out and throw it away.
