Sharing apps with family members who have ipads

We are now officially a mac household.  My husband has an ipad 2, my 2 kids have minis and I have the new ipad retina.  But how do we setup these devices so all of us can share the apps and music but keep the contacts, emails and messaging unique to the user?
My kids are 7 and 10 so I want to be able to give them access but not the ability to purchase anything on their own.  Any ideas?

Yes. I would clarify your statement about the "shared" iTunes Library though. If you want each iOS device to have its own music library, you should create separate user accounts for them. Read:

  • Sharing aliases with family members

I have 5 aliases and would like to share them with my family. I would like to my family members to only receive and send using their respective emails (using their alias) on their iPads/iphones. Is that possible?

    Hey there!
You'll want to create a seperate iCloud account for each device in order to keep the contacts seperated.
You'll esentially have to delete the iCloud accounts from each device and choose to keep the info on the iPhone. Then sign in with the newly created apple id for each device that wants their own account and choose to merge the data on the iPhones.

  • Problems sharing contacts with family members

My family (me, wife and 2 daughters) all have iPhones and share a single apple ID.  We want to share music, etc. but would like to manage our contacts separately.  Right now we all see a collective list of contacts.  How do we manage some items like this independently?
    Thanks,

    Hi, Confused As Always CB.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Hopefully I can help resolve this issue for you.  Try removing the preference to sync calendar events in iCloud preferences.  Once this is down enable the preference again and see if this resolves the issue.
Turn iCloud Calendars off and back on:
    Quit Calendar (or iCal).
Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then select iCloud.
Deselect the checkbox next to Calendars.
Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
Open System Preferences and select iCloud.
Replace the checkmark next to Calendars.
    Close System Preferences.
Open Calendar (or iCal) and test to see if the issue is resolved.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
If the issue persists, try all remaining steps in the article below.

  • HT204486 Sharing Photo library with family members with different iCloud accounts?

How might one share Photos library with family members with their own Apple IDs?

    I would try the following:
    1. Create a smart album. Match condition as "Album" is "Any". That should capture all your photos and videos as of now.
    2. Share that Album via iCloud photo sharing, sending invitations to the family members.

  • Share iCloud drive with family members

Has anybody figured out how to share iCloud drive with family members?
I was using Amazon Cloud drive which used to have an app you could download and imbed into Finder, but with OS X 10.1 this is no longer supported so I've switched over to iCloud drive.  So far it is working seamlessly, except for the fact the my wife has to log into my iCloud account on the web in order to download the files.  Ideally I could share iCloud drive and she'd simply log into finder on her mac to view our files and records.
    Thanks in advance.

You can only share iCloud Drive with someone else if they also log in to the same account.  Otherwise, your sharing will be limited to the sharing options of the file itself, which is extremely limited.  Hopefully they will add more options as time goes on, but for now, thats where iCloud Drive is at, in its infancy.
    Good Luck.

  • Can I share my contacts list with family members?

can I share my contacts list with family members in the same way as sharing tunes and photos? If so how do I go about setting this up?

Perhaps you should read these Apple documents about what is stored by iCloud.  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview:
Your iCloud account includes 5 GB of free storage for iCloud Mail, Documents in the Cloud, and your iOS device backups. Your purchased music, apps, books, and TV shows, as well as your photo stream, don’t count against the 5 GB of free storage ........
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksPurchased music isn’t backed up in all countries. Purchased movies and TV shows are backed up only in the U.S. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore. Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. A movie’s product details page in the iTunes Store shows if the movie is unavailable.

  • How do i share 'pages' app with family?

how do i share 'pages' app with family?

What do you mean by "share"? You can download an app from the App Store on any Macs that you own and are signed into with your AppleID. If other family members have their own AppleIDs and purchase their own apps, they must separately purchase and download Pages from the App Store.

So I basically won't run into any trouble? I
There should be no issues. Its designed to work like that.  You don't change Apple IDs just because you get a new device.

Is there any chance that the phones can fall out of sync?
Unlikely. But nothing is impossible.   Though I don;t see how that would happen. As long as both are signed into the Same Apple ID / iCloud Account they will be N'Sync. (Bad Joke)

If I get a message or buy an app or take a photo on the iPhone 5, how do I get those things onto the iPhone 6?
If you buy an App, you have 2 ways to get it to the iPhone6: If Automatic Downloads is enabled in Settings->iTunes & App Store, it will automatically download to the iPhone 6 when you buy it on the 5 and vice versa if you buy it on the 6, it will download to the 5.
Alternatively, you can simply go to the App Store App->Updates->Purchased and look for the App there and download it. Purchased Apps will not require payment again. i.e They'll be free to download to the iPhone 6 once purchased.
SMS Messages will sync over using Continuity as long as they are on the same Wifi network. Otherwise, restoring the iPhone 5 backup to the iPhone 6 will transfer all messages received up until the backup was made onto the iPhone 6.
Images, can be transferred either through Photo Stream
My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support
Or any Cloud service you want such as Dropbox, or One Drive.

Also, something i forgot to ask initially: Should I update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8 first or does that not matter?
If you want the Continuity features as explained above you need to update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8. Otherwise its not all that important.

  • I would like to add family members to my existing apple id that is used for my iCloud account.  All of the family members already have existing apple ids.  Can I make these existing apple ids part of my family?

Adding existing apple id to an iCloud family share
I would like to add family members to my existing apple id that is used for my iCloud account.  All of the family members already have existing apple ids.  Can I make these existing apple ids part of my family?  I have tried this, but "verifying" the apple id always fails with "existing family member" or an error something to the effect "unable to do at this time, try again later."
    Thanks

"am I still able to register another phone to the same ID?"
    Yes.
") that I do end up creating a new apple ID "
This will cause complications.  i do not recommend this.

  • Can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

Seems like this would be a common question but Apple Support search came up empty. So, can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can share they space if they all use the same Apple ID, but that's not really a good idea, because you'll then share contacts, calendars, photos etc etc.

  • Contacting Other Apple Discussions Members Who Have No E-mail Address

    Hello All;
How do we contact other Apple Discussions members who have no e-mail address or contact information in their public profile listing? Some years ago, I was able to do this in the Apple Discussion Boards. There used to be a 'send e-mail to this person' icon in the profiles listings.
    Thank you.

If they are active in a thread you are watching, you can reply to them and ask them to e-mail you. Be careful though, these boards are public, and can be scanned by "bots" that belong to spammers. Do not use the @ symbol in your e-mail address, and instead use the word AT to represent that symbol. That at least will spoof the "bots."
I don't think that works any more, nor does using "DOT" in place of the symbol. It is better to create a graphic of "name at site dot domain" and then just paste that in where you want to put your email address. Of course, it is easier to do that on a web page then it is to do it here.
