Sharing artwork over the network

Hi,
I have my music library on my tower and I have sharing enabled so that I can play the music on my other computers. My question is how do you get the machines to view the album artwork? It was doing it but now isn't anymore.
Thanks everyone.
-Keith

I think it's a DRM-type issue. If the music you're sharing is only licensed for your machine, then other people can't see it. So it's either because of some licensing restriction on number of people you can share it with, or it's just not working properly.

  • HP Laserjet M1132 MFP is too slow over the network!

    Hi,
My HP Laserjet M1132 MFP is too slow over the network!
I have connect the printer to a windows XP 32bit SP3 using UBS port. The printer works fine on the local computer but when sharing it over the network it works too slow, for example with print test page it takes about 45 seconds to print and for other documents it takes much longer time.
I have installed the latest driver form HP website and upgrade the firmware it the latest version.
It happens on other Windows XP machines as well.
I connected the printer to my laptop (Windows 7 64bit) and it works fine (No delays over the network) and it seems that this problem have some relations with the windows XP Driver.
I have used local port trick on remote machines (instead of regular method) like this:
    ''add a local printer;
    'new port'
    'localport'
    \\XPcomputer\HPPrinterName as port name
    but still nothing!
There is nothing wrong with the network, we use to use a Samsung printer on the same machines over the network with no problem.
    I Really appreciate your HELP!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

BEHZAD_T, how is the printer connected to the network (wireless or Ethernet)? If it is slow wirelessly, I would suggest trying to connect the printer to your router with the Ethernet cord and install it to the networked computer that way.
Another question is, relatively speaking, how close to your router are the Samsung printer and the HP printer? Depending on the distance (and what stands between the devices) there can be a lag between sending a print job and it being received by the printer.
    Let me know!

  • Sharing usb HD over the network

I have two Macs behind a firewall connected to the internet. I have a USB 2.0 HD connected to my Mac mini. I want to share this drive over the network so my old Mac cube can access it. I have set up sharing so that I can move files from my cube to the mini’s HD but that is sub-optimal.

External HD's can be "shared", but to get them available and 'out on the network' you need to manage them in Samba settings.
Sharepoints is a GUI to the Samba Configuration.
You'll be pleasantly surprised, I hope.

  • I want to share my external hard drive over the network

I found a lot of threads and discussions about this, but no answers.
I have a WD My Book External Hard Drive that I'm looking to share over the network. However, when I add the volume to the "Shared Folders" or even a folder within the volume and the "Users:" are grayed out.
When getting info on the volume, Sharing & Permissions says, "You can read and write"
    Any ideas?

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for your response; however, the first screenshot is through the Sharing settings in the System Preferences.

  • Unable to print to USB printer over the network

    Hi all,
I have an iMac and an Macbook Air, both running 10.6.4, and I've got an HP LaserJet 1200 printer connected to the iMac by USB. Both machines are on my home wireless network (Linksys, FWIW).
I seem to be unable to print to the LaserJet over the network from my Air. I've tried all manner of permutations of printer setup on the Air: IPP/LPD/HP JetDirect; entering the hostname (*.local) and the IP address of the host; leaving the queue blank and not; and leaving "Print Using" as generic vs selecting the LaserJet drivers. The printers appear in the "Default" Add Printer menu as Bonjour Shared, but this doesn't seem to work either.
Following other threads, I've tooled around with CUPS (resetting the configuration file, etc.), with no success. The other threads I've found on the subject seem to be more specifically addressed to folks trying to use an AirPort.
Any suggestions for what to try next?

In that case, let me elaborate on what happens when I try to set up the printer via Bonjour, in case there are any clues in the behavior that I'm seeing. The printer seems to appear twice in the "Default" pane, with Kind as 'Bonjour Shared' and Printer Names as follows:
    HP LaserJet 1200 @ (hostname)
    HP LaserJet 1200 @ (hostname) @ (hostname)
Selecting the first, it displays "Gathering printer information..." for a few minutes, then strikes out, suggesting Generic PostScript Printer rather than the correct driver. Whether I stick with that or select the correct driver manually and then try to print, it hangs on 'Copying print data..." (in the print queue).
Selecting the second, it gathers printer information only for a second or two before settling on Generic PostScript Printer. If I stick with Generic PostScript Printer, it hangs on 'Connected to printer...' but if I select the correct driver, it hangs on 'Copying print data...' again.

  • Time Machine over the Network: Terribly Slow

    Hello,
I've been using Time Machine for over 3 years now with no issues over the network; the destination being a 2TB external Seagate connected to another iMac connected through gigabit ethernet. Everything has been working flawlessly: Every hour Time Machine would MOUNT the sparseimage it created on the disk, BACKUP the data and UNMOUNT the disk image when finished.
Until I upgraded to Lion. The above process is still working per se, however it is PAINFULLY slow! A 50MB backup can take up to AN HOUR! Searching around on the net, advised that there could be an issue with Spotlight as well, however this is not the case for me, since Spotlight finished a new index in under 30 mins. Followed every tutorial I could find on the issue, to no avail..
I then upgraded to Mountain Lion with the hope that the issue will clear itself. Cleared my old backups, resetted Time Machine by erasing its .plist file, restarted my iMac just to make sure and connected Time Machine to the network share anew, creating a "sharing only" account on the host iMac, i.e. the one that has the external HD connected through USB. Still no luck.
I painfully realize that I still have the same issue. While backing up, network traffic is under 100KB, and activity monitor does not show any backupd or mds or any similar processes taking anything over 3% of CPU time.
    What could be wrong?

    Hello again,
Tries on the other iMac (also running 10.8.2) and things are exactly the same: Image creation takes almost half an hour, and copying crawls at under 1MB/min. While time machine image is mounted and Time Machine is "backing up", accessing ANY disk on the host Mac is VERY slow. Seems like something hogs up appleshare when Time Machine is in use. Mind you, there is insignificant network traffic as seen by Activity Monitor, as well as insignificant CPU usage while backing up.
Stopping backup and using tmutil to set the Time Machine destination to the mounted image as mounted by Finder, solves the issue again, revving up Time Machine throughput to over 20MB/sec! There is also no issues acessing the other Mac as well, under this scenario.
Up to this point, the only way I have managed to use Time Machine over a networked external HD is through the NAS server. Both configurations where I am using a Mac running 10.8.2 as a server of the external disk have failed with very low throughput while backing up. Something must be wrong in 10.8.2's afp when Time Machine is mounting the image by itself.
I may need to remind you that I have been successfully backing up to the external HD for 4 years now; something broke a few months after the client iMac was upgraded to Lion and at the time when the host iMac was upgraded to Mountain Lion. Will try to locate a Mac running some later OS X version to do some more testing.
Also reminding that I have used two distinctive iMacs and two external HD drives for my tests so far. The client iMac has remained the same, however 10.8.2 has been reinstalled on it a couple of times. Have also used an afp-enabled NAS server which worked fine with Time Machine.

  • Is posible restart a engine over the network whith DSC?

is posible restart a engine over the network whith DSC?

You can stop/launch the DSC Engine from a remote application using the VI Server.
A remote VI can launch the engine using the Launch Engine.VI or stop it using the Engine Shutdown.VI.
    They are located at
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 6.1\vi.lib\lvdsc\_engine\User\
If you are going to use VI Server, just make sure that you enable the VI Server on the Computer that has the Engine.
There is also an executable that launches the engine called DSCEngine.exe located at
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 6.1\
that you could access remotely if you share the LabVIEW 6.1 directory. This executable can be used to launch the engine also.
I would recommend using the VI Server, since sharing the LabVIEW directory might not be a good idea.

  • Modifying JAR file using java.util.jar package  over the network

    Hello,
I am modifying a JAR file programmatically using java.util.jar package. The time taken to save the contents to a local disk is very less (around 1 sec) . When I tried modifying the JAR from a remote machine over the network (from mapped drive or shared folder of WIN NT), the time taken to save is 15-20 times more.
I am recreating the whole JAR while modifying. Is there any way to improve the performance. Or is it possible to write only the changed files?
    Thanks,
    Prasad Y S.

When you "update" a jar file, you must always recreate it from scratch.

  • Viewing Shared Music over a network

    Good day everyone.
My problem relates to viewing shared music over a network. I have recently gone to university with my imac. Everyone on the network can see, and listen to everyone else's music, apart from me.
I was wondering why I am unable to do this? Do people think that because I am using OS X opposed to windows, that prevents me being able to view their music?

Are you sure you are on the same network as the other users?
In System Preferences, choose Network... select the ' Active' networking method (AirPort / Ethernet etc.) then Configure. Then choose the TCP/IP tab. What details are displayed?
You need to be on the same subnet (I think!) to other users for iTunes sharing. So, for example my iBook has an IP address of 10.0.1.6, and my iMac that hosts all the iTunes library is on 10.0.1.2. If my iBook had something like 192.168.0.1 then I wouldn't be able to see the iTunes library when using my iBook - hope that makes sense?
Check with other network users what their IP settings are

  • Waking Mac from Sleep over the network

All, I tried to find other post on this but was unable too, so I am sorry if this has been answered already. I have an iMac G5 w/iSight camera built in, an ibook and a Mac Mini. I am trying to keep all my music, photos and videos on my imac and then share them over my local network through itues and iphoto sharing. Which works just great. But, if my iMac goes to sleep there is no way for it to be awaken over the network, at least that I can find. Is this a true statement? If I would like this data to always be available do I need to disable sleeping, or just put the monitor and HD to sleep, but not the entire computer.
Any suggestion/information on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards, Tom

  • Installing an app from DVD-ROM on an iMac, over the network, to an iBook G4

I have a rather broad question: my in-laws want to install Office 2008 onto an iBook G4. Unfortunately, the G4 only has a CD-ROM drive (ie, read-only), and the Office 2008 install media is DVD-ROM.
They have a new iMac (onto which Office 2008 has already been successfully installed), and my suspicion is that you can share the install disk over the network, but I can't seem to find any detailed instructions on how to do so. I am (unfortunately) Mac-less at the moment, so I can't experiment myself, and my in-laws are about 2,000 miles away, so I can't just pop over and play around until something works.
Anyone have any guidance on how to use the DVD drive on one machine as a way to install on another over the network?
The iMac has Leopard installed, the iBook G4 has the latest version of Tiger.
Don't worry, no licensing issues as it's the Student/Home edition of Office 2008; you're entitled to install it on up to three machines.

Go to System Preferences/Sharing and make sure that DVD or CD Sharing is checked. Ensure both Macs are connected to the same network. Insert the Office 2008 DVD into the Mac with the DVD drive. Open a finder window on the Mac without the DVD drive connect to the other machine. You should see the Office 2008 DVD in the finder window and you can install from here.

  • Epson Stylus CX5400 printing rubbish over the network!!!

Hi! I am visiting my mom and dad for the holidays and they have an all-in-one Epson Stylus CX 5400 connected to their WinXP computer. Bonjour installed as well.
I have tried a few times to print some photos from iPhoto. I also tried printing an email from Apple's Mail. Everytime all I got was... nonsense basically. This kind of printout with unreadable characters.
I thought the lack of drivers for such a device installed in my PB should make no difference but anyway I tried installing them. I was right, the result was the same.
File sharing takes place without problem. As far as I know the drivers are up to date on both computers. If I connect the CX5400 directly to a PB's USB port it works great, but no otherwise.
    Any thoughts?
    Merry Christmas and happy 2006.
    George...

Neither the PC nor the printer know what to do with the PostScript your Mac is sending. When the printer is attached directly to the Mac you use the printer's USB driver which speaks the printer's language, but when you send it over the network to the PC, you are using PostScript printing which the PC can't raster, and the printer doesn't understand. I don't think there is a solution here. I doubt there is a PostScript driver for that printer. You could install GhostScript on the PC, but that is very complicated and probably not worth it.

  • Airport won't print over the network

I have a basic HP Photosmart C4200 series printer. It works fine when I plug it directly into my computer but when I plug it into the router, it won't print and this message comes up : "Unable to read response header - short read"
When I delete/add the printer from Preferences, it finds the printer and establishes connection but when I try to print over the network, it gives me that error message.
A weird thing I found was that when connected to the airport, my printer shows up under the iDisks tab under the Airport Utilities instead of being in the Printers tab...

    Welcome to the discussions!
A number of entry level printers are designed so that they will only work when they are connected directly to a computer, so that may possibly explain your problem.
To verify, you can work your way through Apple's troubleshooting guide to see if this is the case. If you've completed all the steps and still can't print, I think you have your answer.
