Sharing between itunes accounts and computer/iphone

My husband and I each have our own itunes accounts. I want to put some of his music (from his itunes library on the computer) into my iphone music library. We can't figure it out. Homesharing doesn't appear to be working and drag/drop doesn't work either.
We both have the latest version of the software installed on our respective devices (iphone 4s has 5.1 and computer has 10.6.1.7)

Many thanks.
We will need to get his music into your iTunes in order to sync it to the phone. Your jump drive technique is a good way of doing it, but home sharing is also an option (assuming both computers are on the same wireless network).
If some of the music you want to shift from him was bought from the iTunes Store, I'd set up the Home Share using the Apple ID that the music was bought with.
See the following document for instructions on how to turn on Home Sharing on both computers:
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Have iTunes open on both computers. On your computer, select his library in the iTunes source pane as per the following screenshot:
You can pick and choose which items you want to copy across. (Select the items and then click Import down in the bottom right hand corner.) If you import a lot, the transfer is going to take a while.
If you do things in several batches over an extended period of time, it might be easiest for you to have "Items not in my library" displaying in the Show menu rather than "All items". (That will cut down on the possibility of accidentally importing duplicates.)
Once you've got the items in your library, you'll be able to sync them to your phone.

In order to continue to play and sync the music you purchased with your old account, you'll need to authorize your new computer/iTunes library to do so.  You can do this by choosing Store -> Authorize This Computer and then entering in your old account credentials.
That's all you should need to.  Then just create your own account and start purchasing and using it the same you have with the old one.

  • Can I have 2 different IPods on the same itunes account and computer?

    I have a nano gen. 4 and a new nano 7.
Can I have them both on my itunes account and computer?
    thanks

Yes. You can easily have multiple iPods on the same iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPod will show up with its name when plugged in, and each iPod can have its own set of preferences (i.e., what music, videos, photos, audiobooks, etc. to sync).
What you can't do easily is use the same iPod on multiple computers with different instances of iTunes. One instance of iTunes has to be "in charge" of an iPod.

  • Managing 2 iPhones with iTunes and one iTunes account and computer...

    Hello All!
I already have a 16GB 3G iPhone and we're going to be getting another 3G for my wife (whether it is 8GB or 16GB is still to be decided). On my phone, I have about 13GB used, with the primary source being music. We intend the same iTunes account and there are no other devices using authorizations on this account.
*First, does Apple's licensing of applications allow the second phone using the same iTunes account to download all of the previously purchased applications for free?* In other words, will she be able to download any applications I purchased for free since I have unlimimted free downloads on my phone?
Second, and most importantly, I am wondering how iTunes manages two different iPhones on one computer. This will especially be an issue if she gets an 8GB iPhone since everything that is on my phone will not fit on an 8GB model. She doesn't want or need all of my music, so we could very easily not transfer all of the music. But, I'm just wondering how they will co-exist if they are different sizes and her phone might keep running out of room. If the iTunes software doesn't handle this situation well, we may buy a 16GB model just to make our lives easier. *If someone could provide me with information on how the iTunes software handles multiple phones (especially if they are of different capacities) or links to other websites with information on this topic I would really appreciate it.*
We need to make our purchase in the next month, so I want to know what we are getting into if she decides to get an 8GB model with me having a 16GB one. I just don't want to have a management nightmare. I'd appreciate any help in advance. Thanks!
    Jim

I currently have 2 iphones, 1 is a 2G 8GB, the other is a 3G 16GB. I use smart playlists on the 16GB and only sync those playlists. The 8G is set up to manually manage music per my sons request. It would be just as easy to have a playlist set up for him and have it sync only that playlist. So yes, you can absolutely have both on one computer. As far as applications, as long as you are syncing to the same computer/same account, it will allow you to place the app's on both machines. I don't know what the legality of that is, however.

  • Sharing an iTunes account (and its apps) inside a family

how does one share an itunes account (and apps) within a family?

I agree with Mr J Spoons. If Apple allowed a "Family Account" that was tied to a credit card with all "necessary" restirctions it needs (for piracy/copying/etc.) and allowed the administrator of that account to add sub-accounts to that Familly Account it would be fantastic.
I don't believe that anyone would allow friends to buy from the iTunes Store using its family account, since all would be paid by the credit card on file.
Also, if my I make any purchase using my individual iTunes account or my wife does the same with hers, we could decide at that time to push the purchase to the "Family Account" or not. This would keep the Family music and apps centralized and allow for individual apps (and music) to be separated. All following the DRM/piracy/sharing controls that Apple has to have in place.
This is such a needed feature not only to the family world but also the business world. You could, instead of a Family account, create a Company account and department accounts under that.
I hope apple get this straighten up.

  • Ipod touch & ipod shuffle on same itunes account and computer

I have an ipod touch which works fine with my itunes account.  I purchased an ipod shuffle for my sister for xmas.  I need to synce a playlist of songs for her on the ipod shuffle using my computer.  I have purchased songs for her from itunes which are on my computer.  When I plug her ipod shuffle into my computer it shows up as my ipod in itunes.  How do I get music on her shuffle?  She will eventually learn how to open her own itunes account and do it from her computer, but I don't whan to mess up my ipod trying to get her started on her ipod shuffle.  I need help.  Thanks for any help. Donna

You are simply setting yourself and your sister up for issues.
iDevices are designed to sync to one and only one computer.
If you load content on the device from your computer and then she tries to sync with her computer, the only option will be to wipe the device and it's content, then load content from the "new" computer.
Set up the iTunes account on her computer.
Put the content on her computer (either downloading past purchases or simply moving via a USB flash drive).
Sync the device to her computer.

  • How can i unlink my iTunes Account and my IPhone.?

i want to unlink my account.
bcoz i registered my crediet card inf. to my account.
and i dont want to buy app now.
now i want to log off my account in my IPhone in case i buy some app.
    what should i do.?
    thanks very much.!

You can't 'unlink' the iPhone from your iTunes account (unless you change the iTunes account you're logged into on the computer, then sync, but ion that case you won't be able to use the apps you have already bought).
You can remove the credit card from the account in iTunes > Store menu > View My Account > Edit Payment Information and setting the credit card area to None (I think this option will be available). Alternatively, on the iPhone you can select Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions and set Installing Apps to OFF.

  • 2 iTunes account and computer is not authorized

I have 2 iTunes account on one computer ,both of them are authorized ,and only one of them is keeping same message ,"this computer is not authorized"

You can try removing all authorizations then re-authorizing the computer.  (iTunes Store --> Quick Links --> Account --> iTunes in the Cloud --> Manage Devices).  This fix has worked for me when I've had this issue in the past.

  • 2 Itunes accounts and one iphone

Somehow i managed to have 2 itunes accounts, one with my user name (example: XXXXX) and then another one that is my username but with my email address (Example: [email protected]) attached to it. I purchased songs on one account from computer but now i can not transfer the purchases to my i phone 4. If it helps my i phone 4 is linked to just the username account not the one with the email address. How can i transfer these purchases and is there anyway to link these accounts?

You can only use one account on your device. Contact the iTunes Store and see if they can do something about it, but the official version is:
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to consolidate them into a single Apple ID?
At this time, Apple IDs cannot be consolidated.

  • Audiobook 'lost' between iTunes account and iPad...

I have just synced my ipad and two audiobooks that are in my itunes account are not transferring to my ipad. I have clicked on selected audiobooks and clicked the boxes for both of the books but they seem to have disappeared.  I have checked ibooks, audible and my music folders but they arent there either.

Where on your account are you seeing that they are on your iPad - I'm not aware of any account setting that shows that.
How did you try and sync them ? You should be able to do it by connecting the iPad to your computer and selecting it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you don't have the sidebar showing then option- command-S should get it to show) :
and then on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen using the Books tab to select the audiobooks that you want to sync :
And then click the Apply button at the bottom right of the screen. Is that how you trying to sync them ?

  • HT4557 Issues with my home sharing between my iPad and my iPhone

I have recently changed my Apple ID name, its still the same account. I have logged out of iTunes and Music on my iPhone and iPad and logged in with the new name for my apple ID. My home sharing is now not working. I have just bought a song on my iPad and when I see it on my iPhone I just shows as being purchased and won't let me ICloud it over to my iPhone

All purchases are tied to one apple ID. That is not the same as the email you may have changed with the ID.
If I initially purchase with [email protected] and then try to change the id to [email protected] it will not work. However, if I purchased with [email protected] and changed the email associated with [email protected] to [email protected] then there should be no issues.
You really need to answer Diesel's questions above so we can help you better.

  • Sharing between itunes accounts

I have an ipad/ipods on separate accounts, how do I share music between?

    That's not possible, sorry.

  • Since years, my wife and I are sharing one Apple computer. On this, we both have an individual user account. Each of us has an own iTunes Account and an own individual media library. Why is this setup now blocked by Apple? Cannot download purchased music.

Since years, my wife and I are sharing one Apple computer. On this, we both have an individual user account. Each of us has an own iTunes Account and an own individual media library. Each of us is using an own individual iPhone, which we frequently update with our iTunes Accounts. We have had this setup for years. It was convenient, reliable and user friendly, since we both could download what we wanted, create playlists, etc. without impact on the other. Exactly this convenience has made me and my wife real Apple fans, so that we also wanted to convince our daughter to move from Android and PC to our easier Apple setup.
Since a few weeks, this setup does not work anymore. From Apple Support (online chat on Apple.at) I was not told that this is not supported any more. Every computer is only allowed to be connected to one iTunes account. From one perspective (sharing music across other users as an act or media piracy, etc.) I can somehow understand this. However, since we are using different user accounts on this computer, I do not have access to other user´s iTunes media and could not play, download or copy it. So what is the point in this?
This now means, that my wife and I are only allowed to download individually purchased music with our personal iTunes accounts only with an interval of 90 days, so every on of us 2 times a year!
Was I incorrectly informed by the Apple support? If so, how can I solve the problem? Or is this really a new policy by Apple? If so, what is the reason? Am I expected to purchase a Mac for my wife, my daughter, myslef and for the three smaller kids to follow soon?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, if Apple simply allowed people to log into different accounts and download content, everyone would be using everyone could share everyone else's content and bypass the need to purchase anything. To protect against this, they limit you to logging into a new account to once every 90 days.
If two or more of you, have different accounts and use only one computer, you should each have your own user account on the computer, to avoid the need to log in and out of iTunes.
