Sharing between users one Imac

Can't find where I need to set photos in one login so my wife can see when she logs in. Sure there is a setup doc somewhere but I can't find it?
Any one direct me to the setup please TY

What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

What is the "Wheel" user?
Does this user need to have RW access to a file in order for that file to be shared between users on the same MAC?
I set the file permissions to RW for each user but they remained read only for all users except the user who created the file.
Then I change the "Wheel" permission to read write and then the file became write enabled for the other users.
In the same direction ... what is the point of having a drop box if you can only write files to it but it is not possible to read any files from it.

Sharing between User Accounts

I'm new to Macs and need some help.
I have 2 user accounts on my mac and want to share picture and music files between the accounts. Both can be read & write. All my music is in the iTunes music folder. Even when I share that folder I can't get to the files on the other account. Each artist has their own folder within the iTunes music folder and they all have the minus symbol beside them when viewing from the 2nd account. How do I share these files between user accounts?
Also, where do I save my pictures so that they can be seen on both accounts?
I started to share all the folders with in iTunes but that was taking forever so I quit the process and now my public folders are not showing as shared in the preferences. How do I get my sharing preferences back to the default settings?

I now have my mac set up just the way i want. thanks for the input you all gave! How I did it:
in the file sharing system prefs i deleted the "ghost" folders that were showing. I call them ghost folders because they were grayed out and not clickable. They were pointing to a folder that I had removed from my system because I deleted my user account so that i could start over from scratch to set things up right from the beginning. This still left these folders in the sharing menu so I just had to delete them one at a time until they were all gone making everything look clean again.
I learned that sharing files between user accounts on the same computer (and even the guest account) can only be done with files that are in the public folder. Adding my iTunes Music folder to the sharing list did not share my mp3 across users on the same computer. I just had to move the iTunes Music folder (not the iTunes folder) to the public folder so the other account could access it. Then I followed the directions in the link provided in this thread about sharing in iTunes. Now I don't have to have my wife's Maria Carry in my library! And she does not have to have my songs in her library!
For photos I placed the files in the public folder and just imported them into the iPhoto library for each account.
On a side note, having our own accounts allows us to set up the computer they way we want, but allows us to have access to the same files. I'll be adding a 500gb hard drive to it soon for time machine and can't wait to have that set up. My only question now is when can i add time capsule? Can I add it as a 2nd wireless network in addition to my linksys wrt54g2 that is connected to the cable modem (i need the linksys connected to the internet for xbox live and ps3's network), i know i would then connect the external HDD to it for more storage, therefore I guess I would move all mp3's and picture files onto it freeing space on the computer and just direct both user accounts to the files on the HDD connected to time capsule.

File Sharing Between Users on a Single iMac

I want others on the same computer to be able to see and access certain folders.
I go to:
System Preferences
Sharing
(highlight) File Sharing
I then add a folder (to the Shared Folders box) I want certain users on the same computer to be able to see and add to.
I then add the users (in the Users box) and set their permission levels.
I go to Options, and select Share Files and Folders Using AFP.
The green bubble is on and says: Other users can access shared folders on this computer at "Jeff's iMac"
The trouble is, when another user logs on, under Shared, the only thing there is my Time Capsule (which they can not access). I have to be missing something easy and obvious but I can't put my finger on it.
I don't really want to put this folder (or others) in my Shared folder (I tried that and it worked) because then I lose the organization I have by having pictures in my pictures folder, music in my music folder, etc.
I am standing in the window about to JUMP! Any help is appreciated.

File Sharing is for setting up access from another computer over the network, not for other users of the same computer. If these files need to be shared among other users of the computer, you should put them in the Shared folder. You can always organize that folder as you see fit. Alternately, you can manipulate folder permissions to give people access to certain things in your home folder, but this has some dangers, as careless fooling around with permissions can mess things up. As long as you confine your manipulations to the Pictures and Music folders, though, you should be okay.

Sharing between user accounts on same computer

I've just tried this and it didn't work, However the default setting for this scenario is usualy that I've got it wrong.... So.
Can you share an iTunes account between two different user accounts on the same computer?
The reason for the question is that my Wife and I both share the same iMac. At present we just use the admin automatic login and share everything. Neither of us have Mac eMail so my eMail is pushed to "Mail" application, and I use this and "Address Book" to sync my iPod touch. The calendar is shared anyway. My wife access her eMail through Safari.
However my Wife is about to get an iPhone. (I'm not jelous...much) This means that we will need a way for her to sync the shared iTunes content but to have her own Mail, Notes and Address book.
The easy way seemed to be to set up a user log in account for her, to give independant Mail etc. and have it share the iTunes account. But this did not seem to work, so have I got it wrong? Or is there another way to achieve the same end?

Imported CD's to iTunes9 can't be shared between users

Tried to share music on one computer (MacPro) with my laptop (MacBook Pro) with the same iTunes user account.
The Shared Library ("XXXXXX Shared Library") and the little house icon appear, and I can drag the selected file(s) to my laptop's music library from the shared account (the little '+' icon appears). However, when I drop it I get the message '... permissions insufficient to allow..." and it doesn't complete any further.
Some files (those from iTunes Store) seem to transfer OK. I see no way to fix this and the information in the Help files have no information about this. Can you give any advice on why or how to work around this seeming bug in iTunes?

3. Using the iPod on my iPhone is the usual answer when on the road and syncing to the local drives is a good alternative. I find myself using the iTunes app less as a result.
MInuses:
1. No music library when traveling. The iPhone would possibly avoid this.
2. Adding music if downloaded while on the road to a new local library means I have to drag it in when back home. Sync from iPhone would possibly avoid this.
Any thoughts?
no arguments against any of the above and no drawbacks i can see. i have fancy Apple made those devices and the software with that in mind. when out and about, you purchase content with a Touch or an iPhone. back home you sync that content back to iTunes. while at home, you'd do it the other way round.
is there still room for improvement ? you bet your sweet little tush ! but you can spin even that into a positive direction: if it would be perfect, we wouldn't have had this nice brainstorming today

File sharing between rMBP and iMac massive bugs.

I recieved my new rMBP this week to replace my Macbook Air and join my iMac and Mac mini and immediately came across a problem.
Ive always had file sharing enabled on all computers and sent and recieved files to the iMac from the Macbook Air with ease.
However I tried to copy a file from the iMac to my rMBP and was provided with an error code (-8000 something) and was forced to relaunch finder.
I brought the Macbook Air back up (incidently I used migration assistant to copy files and settings over from MBA) and it was able to send and recieve files from iMac with no problems.
The first thing I notice is that the rMBP asks for an admin password to write to the iMac - the MBA doesn't. If I check permission settings on folders from the iMac from both machines they both have the same permissions set so I can't understand this.
Now the error code when trying to copy from rMBP to iMac doesn't appear - instead I send a file and Finder goes crazy and copies a 0 byte file with the same file name onto the iMac thousands of times until I force Finder to relaunch again.
Incidently I can send files to and from the Mac Mini without any issues - and I can as of now recieve files from the iMac ok, but not send to.
Its a very odd bug, ive tried repairing permissions on both machines and restarting both but ot no avail. Can anyone think of anything to delete/reset/try to fix this odd behavour?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.

Itumes sharing between users anyone!?!

This might be a silly question but I am trying to use iTunes share between two users on the same computer(macpro) and the library doesn't show up. Any idea what I'm doing wrong!?

I'm doing just that. You need to set up Home Sharing on the account with the music library you want to share using your Apple store ID and password. Then set it up on each account you want to share with, making sure you use your Apple ID and password. There are some pretty good instructions on the Support pages. One more key item that I didn't find anywhere on the Support site is that you have to leave iTunes open on the account with the music you want to share.

How can photo albums be shared between users on the same computer?

I have downloaded photos into IPhoto, but my wife can't view them on the computer from her homepage. (We have separate passwords upon startup.) Thanks.

Home Sharing 4 users on iMac using 3 Apple IDs.

I have 4 different User log-ins on our iMac, each has a IOS device and and Apple ID. Mom and Dad use the same Apple ID on our devices. I have a network drive where I keep our converted DVDs and CD music. Generally speaking everything works very well together but I would like to have a single "Shared" library that we all have access to for things that don't need Copyrights, then, individual logins/iTunes can keep those things purchased with individual Apple ID seperate from the others. The problem I have had in the past is if Son wants to have some of my songs on his iTunes and device, his library size increases. So if there are 3000 songs that we all want to use, there are 4 copies of all 3000 on the iMac hard drive. If you add movies to the libraries, my storage requirements get pretty huge. What's the best way to manage this mess while keping the integerity of the purhase rights intact?

Sorry, but at the moment I have no good feelings for them. User friendly multi-user environments don't seem to very popular at Apple.

ITunes 11: Full read & write sharing between users on a single Mac

I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.4 and running iTunes 11.4. I have 3 user accounts on my computer - 1 admin and 2 standard accounts. I want to share the library from the admin to the two standard accounts and that two standard accounts to have full read and write of the same, single library. In the end, I want a single iTunes library on these 3 user accounts with full read and write so whenever I add/edit/delete a music from either of the accounts, it will automatically update the rest without messing up anything or creating new iTunes Media folder.
I think I've exhausted all the available articles related to what I want to accomplish but I can't find anything that can really help. Is this doable? Please help.

Drag the whole iTunes folder from your account to /Users/Shared Start iTunes from each account while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved folder. If there's still issues you may need to tweak permissions for the folder and files by getting info on it and changing permissions. Read the part about changing permissions on the iTunes folder in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11583914#11583914 but make sure they meet this particular need.
A library can only be opened by one user at a time. A person will have to quit iTunes before another user can use the library.

Screen sharing between server and iMac appears to connect but no window opens

We have been trying to screen share between a server and iMac. Both are running Snow Leopard 10.6.7. It seems like we connect using the share screen app because we don't get any error messages after inputing the username and password but no window opens for the server we are connected to. When I look under the windows tab I can see a checkmark next to our server name and trying 'bring all to front' doesn't do anything. The video card on the server died and was removed by our tech support who said we could still access the computer via screen sharing. Would the server not having a video card be the cause of our problem?

A Bit for other reading this thread.
To change the Login port for any AIM based name you have to obviously Log out first and then Change the port (SSL might need to be selected first) and then Press Enter to "Set" the port.
This use of the Enter key is the bit that is different to earlier versions of iChat.

Which Thomson-Alcatel device do you have ?
Thomson-Alcatel Speedtouches used to work well when the firmware that ran them was at Version 4.2.5 or less.
At least at this level you could access the device via Terminal using Telnet and then access the Command Line Interface (CLI) and "Unbind" SIP from port 5060
Later versions of their Firmware did not allow for a full Unbind of SIP and Video and Audio chats could only be partially successful (about 15 buddies out a list of 50
Of course using UPnP to open ports for iChat 4 helps with the Screen Sharing as the process is an Screen Share with an Audio Chat along side and both have to work/connect.
I am surprised to hear that in iChat 5 that Screen Sharing is not working when Video and Audio chats are.
For this reason I would ask how the ports have been opened in the Thomson device ?
After that I would keen to know if the Thomson Device or the Time Capsule is doing DHCP to the LAN ?
(Share an IP on the Time capsule is to Enable DHCP)

VMWare Fusion Image Sharing between user account on MAC

Dear All, i've install VMWare Fusion on my MAC, i've created an XP image on mac account 1, but when i create mac account 2, i'm unable to access my XP image. Anyone can help on this?

This isn't a Fusion issue, and it's not an issue of compatibility between Mac OS and Windows. It's simply a matter of not being able to see files in another user's home folder.
Just save/move your Fusion image in the /Users/Shared folder and all users can have access to the image.

Sharing between users

I used the migration utility to bring my pc files to my new Imac and it set it up under a different user. I know have two sign ons. How do I share files between the two sign ons? I.E., I want to use pictures between the two, etc.
