Sharing books

looks like lots of people are having the same problem, I have books that my wife wants to read on her new ipad but we can't share them, audio books, music, movies no problem but not the books, any suggestions? someone said you have to import it, to where, how- import button, where is this, is it like the anykey?

I thought they were like the music and able to be shared between iPads, my wife & I have separate iTunes accounts but use the same home network, obviously this isn't so.
Thanks for the info.

Cannot home share the game app purchased at iTunes store. Home sharing music works. Home sharing books works. But, when I try to copy the game app, it says my computer is not authorized. What am I doing wrong?

I've been struggling with a similar issue myself and just figured it out.  Some of my content had been purchased with an older Apple ID that I don't use any more.  When I authorized my second computer, I only authorized it for my new Apple ID, not my old one.  When I tried to copy my library to the new computer, many songs, apps, etc. reported the error "could not be copied because this computer is not authorized".  It drove me crazy because I knew the computer was authorized and much of my library came over just fine.
Finally I selected some of the problem items, selected "Get Info" from the menus, and saw that they were all purchased by my old Apple ID.  I then authorized my old Apple ID on my new computer, and all of my files are copying correctly now.
Would be great if the message said something like "...because this computer is not authorized for Apple ID [email protected]"

  • Home Sharing books between iPads?

My wife and I both have iPads, have home sharing turned on, and are sharing the same network, the same apple id and password. She would like to read a book that I purchased and finished that is currently on my iPad. How can she access the book on her iPad so she can read it?

If you are both sharing an Apple ID for iTunes & app stores then purchased books should be available to you both, make sure settings > iBooks > show all purchases is on.

Yes. But depends on what books and from whom.

  • Sharing Books Downloaded before Registration

I downloaded Digital Editions and did not create an Adobe account or register the software.
Then, I purchased and downloaded an ePub book hecause it said it had unlimited dowloads.  Turns out it allows one download.
Then, I registered with Adobe because I learned this was the only way to share the book.
When I log in to Adobe, I can't find where the book might be stored.  The bookseller advised that others could use my log-in to read the book but it is not appearing anywhere.
How can I share this book?
I bought this book for my employer and only downloaded it to test out the process so I could teach it to others.  Now I have the book and those that need it do not have it.

There's a way.  First, let me comment on your intentions - and how the
copyright laws work.   Publishers, authors and distributors can set
parameters called 'digital rights' that will govern the use of an
epublication.  Those digital rights include the number of copies you can
make, and whether you can print an ebook.  So, your intention of sharing
the ebook with others depends on how its digital rights have been set up.
Now for the way.  Use your computer utilities to find where the ebook was
stored.  My guess is that it's in the Adobe Digital Editions folder on your
hard drive.  When you locate it, open ADE.  When it's in Library view, you
can click on the small arrow next to the word 'Library'.  A drop-down menu
will appear.  Click on 'Add Item to Library', and ADE will display a panel
that will let you specify where the ebook is.  Set those settings, double
click on the ebook, and ADE should add it to the library.
Once added to the library, you can look at the ebooks digital rights by
clicking on the small arrow next to its name (in Library view).  A
drop-down box will appear, and you can select 'Item Info'.  The digital
rights are located in the middle of the box that appears.
Don't get bent out of shape if the digital rights won't allow copying or
additional downloads.  That's up to the publisher and the source where
you bought the ebook.  You can go back to the source and discuss what you
want to do with them, but I have this feeling that they're going to tell
you that you'll have to buy a copy for every one.
Also, let me expand on this point.  ADE is intended to be a 1:1 experience
    - one user to a library of ebooks.  Don't think that you can add ID's to
your copy of ADE so that others may share your library and the ebooks in
it - it doesn't work that way.  Sorry!
    Hope this helps!

  • Sharing books in iPhoto

My sister and I are working on a book for our parents 50th. We both have iPhoto 7.1. Does anyone know of a way to export the book to each other so we can take turns editing?
    Thanks in advance.
    Susan Henderson

    Susan:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The only way is to duplicate your library and then delete all of the photos in the duplicate "book" library but those that are in the book and might be destined for the book. That should reduce the size of the library to where it could be burned to a DVD disk via the Finder, not from within iPhoto. If you sister lives close by a better solution would be to copy the book library to a flash drive, send it to your sister and she can operate the library right from the flash drive. She can then send it back, after copy it to her HD, for you do do more editing.
If you need to use a DVD disk and the book library package is too large, you may be able to reduce it enough to get on the disk by making an archive of it, Control-Click on the library package and select Make Archive in the contextual menu.
A last possibility is, if you have a .Mac account, to upload it to your Public folder so she can download it. Give her access to the Public folder and she can upload her edited library so you can get it. The downside to that is the upload time. It will always be about 1/4 of the download speed.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Sharing books on iPad

How can I share books with family on an iPad?

    Let them borrow your iPad?
As far as I know, iBooks does not support 'loaning' of books like other apps/manufacturers do. Books are tied to an apple ID so only devices that share the same ID can share content.
There is also no support for different accounts on the device, such as your library, the spouse's library, the son's library, etc. IT's all one large 'bookshelf'.
What are you trying to do? Maybe another app beyond the main iBooks can help you more.

  • Sharing book files

    hi there,
i'm working on a book and i want my partner to have a look at it on his computer. we both have aperture installed. because there's no file per se, how do i send it to him so he can view it on his computer?

You can export the project that contains the book using the file->export->project menu. Make sure that you have consolidate images checked so that images that are contained in the book that may exist in other projects go along with the project.
If your book is not in a project just make a new project and put the book into it.

Is it possible to share books with someone else using iBooks.

Only if they are using your AppleID, or the book in question is NOT DRM protected (which is quite rare).

If the two devices are not using the same AppleID, you can't. If they are, you can download from the iBooks store's purchases page.

My wife has an ipad if I get one can we share books or do we have to buy the same book twice?
Not if devices are authorized/registered for the same account. Specifics depend on the service from which your are purchasing the content. (I.e., iPads could be authorized for the same iBooks/iTunes Store account or registered as two devices on the same Kindle account, etc.)

  • I have one Mac, two users.  I wish to share a iBook with my wife, the other user.  I move a copy of the book folder to "public" folder, and in her account "added to library".  Does not show even though cue claims it is in her library.  No book.

I find sharing books within my one computer near impossible - not easy as music is.  It used to be easier, but now with iBooks and some other changes this has become difficult.  Also - I can use the search feature to find the "books" folder, and use "Get Info" to find the supposed address, and then not find that folder location at all using a manual method stepping through Finder.  So a second question is:  where is this file hiding?  It is not under User/Library/Containers.... as claimed by "Get Info".  It seems that if I buy a book, the family can use it to put on their iPad.

Part of me understands the need to have purchases protected.  I hope this does not get more and more complicated for "within family use".  It is nice to buy music and share it with my wife, as we used to do with books prior to the iBooks "upgrade" - which mostly consisted of making it impossible to share books.  Thanks though for your response;  I was hoping for some luck and that maybe I had missed some simple step.  To Apple:  lighten up.
Best regards and thanks again for taking the time -

  • E700 - Invalid Address Book Record

Hope this is the correct forum for this topic.
    GW7.0.3
I'm receiving simultaneous errors from 3 po's into the admin account as noted above, along with:
To requeue, save the last attachment to <post office path>\WPCSOUT\OFS\0
I've read TID 3989138 dealing with shared address books.
I've also read a TID or otherwise that indicated this might be a gwcheck finding a new account that has not logged in yet??? These errors are occurring mid-day so there are no checks running (scheduled) at that time. Sorry, can't put my finger on the document.
Contents check on one of the post offices shows the following:
    Prime Database originated by Unnamed_Folder
This is replicated when I run mailbox maintenance on the actual PUxxxx.db
So, I can't determine who actually originated the shared book.
Is there any other way to determine this or am I way off base here?
    Thanks

    http://forums.novell.com/novell/nove...-database.html
    Uwe:
I went through the process of dropping the PU database from the guard:
    renamed the puxxxxx.db to .old
    ran maintenance/structural rebuild from console1
Here's a portion of the log:
    STRUCTURAL VERIFICATION of system databases
    STRUCTURAL VERIFICATION of database ngwguard.db
    - Database is structurally consistent
Reading Guardian Database store catalog info
    Processing Post Office = post_office path = server/data:\po_directory
    STRUCTURAL VERIFICATION of database server/data:\postoffice\ofuser\pu050101.db
    - Attempting to correct structural problem in database
    - Beginning rebuild for database pu050101.db
Saving old database to backup pu050101.dba
Writing corrected records back to database
    - Rebuild succeeded
    * Recovered 43 out of 43 records
So, it appears that the structural rebuild was successful, however, a Contents/analyze-fix shows some strange behaviour in that the PU is "originated by unnamed_folder".
Here's a portion of the log:
    Problem 39- Unknown file PU050101.DBA- 89088 bytes, 04/18/12 10:55
    - File is too recent- will not be deleted
That makes sense as analyze/fix would have created the .DBA file, however, further down the log, it still shows "unnamed_folder"
    Checking user = pu050101.db ( ) 88064 bytes, 04/18/12 10:55 ( [])
    CONTENTS VERIFICATION of database server/data:\po_directory\ofuser\pu050101.db
    - 33 records found, last DRN = 33
    - checking Preference records
    - checking Folder records
    Prime Database originated by Unnamed_Folder
    - checking Category records
    - checking Data records
    1 FOLDER_RECORD (Universal Inbox)
Starting scan of EVENT (and EVENT configuration) records
Finished scan of EVENT (and EVENT configuration) records
0 kbytes in use by user's mail
Perhaps I missed a step, but it doesn't appear the the PU database was dropped from the guard.
    Thanks for your help.

  • IBook verses Kindle - what am I missing?

I'm a huge fan of Apple and would love to embrace the whole iBook thing - but I just don't get it. You can only read and iBook on your IOS device, no OSX. You can't buy a book in iTunes and then download it to your device, you can only purchase from the devices itself. I currently only have an iPhone but will be getting the iPad 2 when it comes out. Now i'm wondering if I buy a book on my iPad, will I be able to also read on my iPhone?
All of these things are possible with Kindle - so I'm just wondering what am I missing. Is Kindle that far ahead of Apple on this?
I would rather use iBook to keep it in within the Apple product suite, but I don't see why anyone would use iBooks over Kindle.
    Any insights are appreciated.
    -Mark

As others have already said, you can use iBooks to share your books on your iPhone and iPad, but not your Mac or other devices (Windows, Android, etc.). Kindle has apps or applications for sharing books on multiple platforms. However, if you have an iPad, you probably won't read books much on your computer or laptop (using Kindle). When I don't have my iPad and I have time to kill, I may use my iPhone to catch up on books, so if you have an Android phone you may prefer the Kindle app.
Of the three major e-readers, I think Nook is the by far the worst. I read one book using Nook and I'll never use it again. iBooks and Kindle are much better, though I prefer iBooks. The biggest advantage of iBooks is the ability to purchase books from within the app. With Kindle and Nook, you'll be routed to the external Safari browser to make your purchase on the Amazon and Barns and Noble websites, respectively. I don't know if Apple will allow Kindle to make in-App purchases in the future, but now it makes purchasing books much easier on iBooks (especially impulsively).
iBooks also has other small features that I prefer in iBooks over Kindle (e.g., the way you turn pages, how it deals with pictures, footnotes, notes, bookmarks, font options). I first look in iBooks to see if the book I want is offered. Now that Random House will be on iBooks, hopefully there will be even more titles. But it is not a deal-breaker if iBooks doesn't offer it and Kindle does. I haven't tried getting books via Google or other e-Readers.
If my experience is typical, you'll probably find yourself reading many more books. I have even been buying books on iBooks that I already had in paper form but have been piling up unopened for years. There are also many free public domain books (e.g., older literature).
While it is true that the glossy screen can make it difficult to read in certain bright conditions, I haven't been fortunate to do all my reading by the side of a pool on vacation. If you are lucky enough for that to be an issue, I guess you can always purchase both a Kindle and iPad 2!
    Good Luck!
