Sharing Confusion

Recently a non-profit I'm associated with asked me to put together a 30 second spot whose final destination will be for broadcast television. The spot consisted of a couple photographs (Ken Burns effect), titles, cross dissolves with background music from an imported aiff files. It came together nicely in iMovie but the problems started in getting it to the TV Station in a format they could use. Seems they want it on a DVD which could be played back through a commercial DVD machine (not a computer DVD Player) whose full screen output could be further processed for whatever format they ultimately use for broadcasting (beta something, but Not betamax...i"m not a TV technician).
Since there seems to be many ways to "share" an iDVD movie, my question is which to use. I tried a .dv and .mov format that burned nicely into a CD but had fuzzy, generally poor quality when played back a full screen using DVD player or QT player 7 (the titles weren't sharp, for example). The station really wants the spot on a DVD which will play full screen, highest quality video/audio when inserrted into a DVD machine. I would appreciate some pointers on how to do this since there seems to be so many codecs and formats to use and I feel like I'm groping in the dark.
Again, my object is to burn a DVD whose 30 second iMove content will playback automatically on a commercial DVD player at the highest quality full-screen video and audio possible.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Joe Newbury

It is better to start a new iDVD project and then import the iMovie project. Let iDVD render not iMovie!

  • Family Sharing Confusion

I have a few questions about family sharing.
I set myself up as the organizer.
I also added my wife and daughter (7yo) both of which were using my iTunes account info to purchase songs, movies, etc.
    1) How do I set up their devices for family sharing?  Do I sign everyone into my iTunes account or sign them in with their own iCloud ID with no payment information for iTunes?
    2) As the Family Sharing Organizer, Do I get the requests to purchase songs, etc from family members or does that go to my wife?  In Settings-iCloud-Family and click on wifes name, there is an on/off toggle for Parent/Guardian which will let her approve requests from our daughter.  If I enable this, will she get the requests or will I?
Thanks for any help with this.

Mails are pure and unaffected by all such sharing its to: [email protected] so likely somebody are mailing mails to you addressed to your wife the same situation could happen my phone or snail  mail

  • Confused about iTunes and home sharing

My family of 4 has been using iTunes for a number of years with our iPhones (4 iPhones) but this home sharing has me confused and maybe I have been doing things wrong. Right now we have four different PCs, iTunes is installed on each computer. Each computer has it's own library. Each iPhone is synced with a different PC with its own library. Each of us have our own iTunes account with a different email address (so 4 different accounts), the two kids have their own credit card associated with their own accounts (I do not want to pay for their purchases), my wife and I have the same credit card with our two different accounts.
So when I try to set up home sharing it wants me to put my wife's account into the home sharing on my machine and her machine so does that mean you can only share across one account? So she could not see items on my machine but I could access items on her machine? Does that mean the kids cannot share their purchases with both of us via home sharing? Perhaps my wife and I should start sharing the same iTunes account since the money comes from the same credit card.
In the future I may purchase a laptop in addition to my desktop. So I would install iTunes on it and it would start with a different library than my desktop (although I believe I could copy the desktop library to the laptop initially) Does the laptop need a different iTunes account or could it keep the same one that I have on my desktop? How do I easy keep the libraries in sync and can I sync my iPhone with either my desktop or laptop and not get the iPhone or me confused.
    Please help thanks

The iTunes/AppleTV/iOS comms system does seem to get easily confused at times even when it's worked peefectly for months.
I've never felt these services which detect each other automatically are particularly good at re-establishing lost connections without restarting one or several components and as you suggest may be linked to IP addresses changing and devices still looking for each other on old IP addresses which have changes.
Try restarting the Time Capsule - I had issues out of the blue last year, iTunes restart helped temporarily but the fix was a router power down and reboot (it had been on for months).
Recently since 5.3, one of my AppleTV 3's has been very flaky with wifi - drops Home Sharing while loading a film then instantly finds it again once the film has stopped - wifi strength listed as full strength - might be interference but ethernet has fixed it for now.

  • Un-confuse me: sharing images with other apps.

Hi. I've gotten flummoxed (not unheard of) now that I'm using some of my images in other apps. I would like to understand all of the options/behaviors for moving images from Aperture to other apps.
My confusion comes from at least three things
. in Aperture, one has access to both the Master image, and the Version
. the behavior may change based on the availability of the Master (is it on-line?)
. Aperture keeps Previews of images, and uses these (sometimes) to share with other apps
. this behavior changes based on the availability of the Preview (does it exist?)
. the file format may or may not play a role in having the image show in another app.
Is the shared image from the Master or a Version? Is it a Preview or something else? Does it have a file format, and if so, which?
Here is a (partial?) list of how one can share images currently stored in Aperture:
    - Export via Export dialog (creates new file, user sets format and other parameters)
    - Mail direct from Aperture via "{Option}+e" or equivalent
    - Drag to the Finder (or Desktop)
    - Drag to another app
    - Open from another Apple app via the Media Browser
    - Open from another app via the "Media" category is the OS "File Open" dialog sidebar (How does one control what shows there?)
    - Open from another app via the OS "File Open" dialog and select a file currently tracked in the Aperture Library
    What are the differences?
To cut this down to size -- here is my current need. I am starting to sketch using Autodesk's Sketchbook Pro. I would like to put an Aperture image on one of the layers. All I need is a good web-quality image (and I prefer to avoid large files). What is the best way to do this?
The Media Browser is not available to Sketchbook Pro. The "Media" sidebar category is there, but often doesn't list Aperture, and often lists an Aperture Library other than the one I want (there does not appear to be a way to switch the Library shown).
    Thanks in advance.

FUQuestion: Is there an on-line source for learning/sharing inf. about using/customizing SBP? I am a natural media artist (viscous colored mud, a/k/a oil paint) who recently became passionate about photography, and just discovered drawing with a computer -- and I got baskets of questions about SBP (it is thrilling to use). The AutoDesk SBP forum is moribund. Additional thanks in advance for your answer.
    Kirby,
I ran into SBP about 1-1/2 years ago when I found Painter to be filled with too much legacy code making it slow. I am an avid Illustrator fan and use it professionally, but it is not great for quick sketching. After checking out ArtRage, I decided to try SBP 2010. IMHO, it is the best program for quick sketching around, bar none.
Since many consumers are just starting to become aware of it (outside of professional design circles), it may prompt more online resources to begin.
There are some tutorials here (some or all of which you may already have seen):
    http://www.lynda.com/home/displaycourse.aspx?lpk2=62087
    http://area.autodesk.com/sketchbook/sketch2010prv
And this link, which requires some additional clicks to land at the tutorial:
    http://www.carbodydesign.com/tutorials/2d/sketchbook-pro-tutorials/
Here is an older site for the transitional period between Alias and Autodesk ownership:
    http://aliasdesign.autodesk.com/learning/tutorials/?product=7912&mode=7937
Note - some of these tutorials are the same as other linked sites.
A great place (IMHO) for art advice and technique is here:

Hopefully, the program will promote more online resources for free.
    Have fun!

  • Confusion about shared objects...

    Hi...
I'm building an application using JSP/Servlet technology and I've ecountered some behavior that is not that unexpected, but is something I can't seem to figure out how to get around.
I've been using two reference manuals over the last year, to learn JSP/Servlet development and I'm not sure that either one of them, do a very good job of explaining how to avoid the problem I'm seeing. (Or maybe they do, but I'm just too dense to figure it out.)
    Both are O'Reilly manuals:
Java Servlet Programming - Jason Humber with William Crawford
Java Server Pages - Hans Bergsten
Anyway, I've tried to model my application using a MVC approach.
My controller servlet UserCtl.java is small and routes requests as a controller should.
My business logic is in a bean. UserBean.java This object has properties that represent the fields from my UserMaster table and corresponding setter/gettter methods. It also has methods to retrieve an individual user record, insert a record, update a record, delete a record and retrieve a list of records.
The scenario I'm experiencing is as follows:
I bring up my application in the browser on two different PC's.
I display the user list on each PC.
    Now...
On each PC, I simultaneously click the Update User, selecting user 1 on pc 1 and user 2 on pc 2.
My application then, creates a record in a lock file, for each user record. This seems to work properly, even during the simultaneous click.
    However...
When the update form is subseqently displayed, I have a situation where the form on each of the 2 pc's contains the same data.
I can verify that 2 different lock records were created, indicating that I did not click the same user by accident, however, the data in the form is clearly for only one of the users.
I've read the sections over and over and I feel like I understand their comments on concurrency and how the condition I'm seeing could occur, however, I've tried many things to overcome this and nothing seems to work.
Originally, I opened my JDBC database connection at the servlet level. I've subsequently tried doing it when I create the bean in the controller and subsequent to that, creating the connection object within the method that retrieves the user data inside the bean.
I've tried moving all my code into functions, so that any bean variables would be localized.
I've creating a bean from the JSP session bean object and then retrieving the record, and putting the bean back into the session object before moving to the update page.
Note... I've also enclosed my record retrieval code within a synchronize block.
I'm at a complete loss here. Nothing I do seems to work and I can consistently recreate this condition. Obviously, I can't move forward until I find out how to do this properly.
I'm disappointed in the Java Server Pages book, because the author encapsulated/wrapped all of his database i/o into his own database management routines.
This is a terrible practice for an author to perform. I understand the concept of why you would do that, however, it complicates learning the fundamentals first. I say show us how to do it the long way first, then show us how to improve on the implementation. Don't confuse an already complicated process with your own home-grown methodology.
Anyway... I digress. Can anybody give me any pointers or recommend a good book or web based example, that can show me how to overcome the issue I am encountering? My implementation is a straightforward, simple, approach. I am trying to grasp how this stuff works, without adding in all the extra stuff like tag libraries and XSLT, etc.
I just need to understand how to write a simple thread-safe application. I'll tackle the other stuff later. Oh... by the way... I have built the simple samples that overcome servlet class level counters that show the result differences between global variables at the servlet instance level versus reporting back localized variable values. I think that JDBC database access and/or bean creation, is more complex than that and that's where my problem is.
Any comments, pointers, references to simple samples, will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brett

You do not need a shared files system - that is just for
convenience. You do need to have identical directory stuctures
for all instances in the cluster.

  • Confused about photos/shared/albums folder

    Hi there,
I have an iPhone 5 iOS 8.  under my photos: I have the collection of photos taken to date. under the Shared tab (iCloud photo sharing), I have activity, and another album; under  the Albums tab, I have camera roll, my photo stream, videos, events from my mac, faces from my mac, recently deleted, and Last 12 Months from my mac.
I do not have enough storage in my iCloud to update.  I would like to understand why I cannot delete photos in various albums that are "from my mac".  In the Last 12 Months folder from My Mac, there are 320 photos. I believe these are stored on my macbook so I don't need all of those on my phone.  How do I remove some of these photos that are taking up iCloud space?
why can't the photos under the Photos tab where collections is found be deleted?  I am so confused. It seems like I have multiple copies of the same photo in different folders.  Can someone set me straight on what is what.  I can't seem to learn about the difference in any of the mac support resources.

Photo Library contains all of your photos except Camera Roll. Because you have only one album with photos (the other is empty) the number of Photo Library equals to "for itunes" album.
846 (camera roll)+788 (Photo Library) are all of your photos that you have in iPhone.
Everything else is a "shortcut" ("for itunes" folder points to Photo Library, "for screen" album may points to Camera Roll or/and Photo Library).
That means that you have only 1634 photos in your iPhone instead of 2536 that iTunes say.
Transfer your Camera Roll to your computer to sync it back later as an album. (like "for itunes").
Empty your Camera Roll (you have to do it from time to time anyway) and un-sync the "for itunes" album and everything else. Try to empty your iPhone from any photo in Photo app.
Check your storage in Settings>General>Usage>Photos and Camera. Slide to delete if it needs.
If everything is correct sync back the "for itunes" and the folder that contains your 846 photos from Camera Roll.
Are there also Videos in your iPhone?
When you sync the "for itunes" folder did you checked the "Include videos" (or something like that) in Photos tab of iTunes sync page?

  • Sreen sharing...searched forums, but i am still confused

I have enabled in system preferences for another 10.5.7 user to share my screen. I assigned him a password and sent him the IP address. But now we are confused....how does he actually get to my mac...sorry if i am being brain dead here.....but i don't even know how to use ichat.

Unless you need to allow this other user to share/access your screen when you are not there, you don't need to have enabled anything in system preferences. The both of you could do this from iChat.
So here are two condensed primers on "attended" screen sharing and "unattended" screen sharing:
    1. "Attended" screen sharing: You both are at your computers and you both have video-capable iChat and you both are currently engaged in a video chat with one another. In iChat's menubar, under "Buddies", there is a "Share My screen" choice and a "Ask to Share (my buddy's) Remote Screen." You select one or the other depending on who's doing what and follow the prompts. I've only done that once myself, so can't remember all the particulars about ending screen sharing and regaining video (as I recall, the camera video was preempted to carry the remote screen) but I believe audio was still carried, certainly text chat was still carried. You both need to have AOL instant message accounts (sign up at https://new.aol.com/freeaolweb?ncid=snsuswebr00000034&promocode=825297). You do not need to download any AOL/AIM software; iChat has all the functionality needed. Then launch iChat and follow the prompts to enter your AIM account information.
    2. "Unattended" screen sharing:
    (a) iChax: this is a third-party application or plug-in that enhances iChat's functionality. I am not personally familiar with it but as I understand it, it has the ability to auto-answer inbound iChat requests and do screen sharing when you're not there. Also, as I understand it, you need to have your computer on, you need to be logged in and you need to have iChat running.
    (b) System Preferences Sharing screen sharing: you do what you have already said you have done, and from the friend's Finder, on the menubar under "Go," the friend chooses "Connect to Server" and at the prompt, enters: vnc://yourComputer'sIPaddress
Your computer's IP address will be the address that your computer echos back when you visit http://checkip.dyndns.com.
This still won't work until you have set up port forwarding in your home router, forwarding port 5900 to your home computer. Depending on your router, you may need to have set up your home LAN to assign static IP addresses, at least to the computers to which you are forwarding ports. Look at your router's user guide to find out what you have to do in order to configure your router to forward port 5900 to your computer. You could also refer to http://www.portforward.com/ but I don't think that all the info there is 100% infallible. Your best choice would be the router's user guide.
Your computer needs to be on, but you don't need to be logged in.

  • Confused about sharing music between two ipods

I have a 30GB ipod video, and I bought my husband an 8GB nano for Christmas. I have been searching the threads trying to figure out how we can share music, but I seem to get conflicting information. I understand how to create separate libraries and I think I understand how to allow him access to my library (move itunes music folder into public folder?) but am still unclear about sharing music between ipods. Because in some of the posts, I have read that while you can share music and listen to it via multiple itunes libraries, you can ONLY listen to it on the computer--you cannot get it onto another ipod due to anti-piracy measures.
I know I could create a playlist for him in my library, but I like to autosync my ipod and I don't really want his music on mine, because the songs we BOTH like I've already imported into my itunes library. I was hoping to set up a separate library for him, import my music files into it, then let him delete the artists he's not interested in and add the music he wants that I don't. But I don't want to go through all that if he won't be able to play the shared songs on his own ipod.
I hope all this makes sense. Can someone who shares songs in this way give me some advice? Again, I would like for us to maintain separate libraries but I would like to make mine available to him so he doesn't have to reimport all the CDs I've already imported (and I don't want to waste computer space by having multiple copies of the same songs).
    Any help would be appreciated!

I know I could create a playlist for him in my library, but I like to autosync my ipod and I don't really want his music on mine, because the songs we BOTH like I've already imported into my itunes library.
    Ver easy to accomplish.
I have one library, two 4GB iPods and ~20GB of music.
Rather than duplicating libraries or creating separate user accounts/sharing music you can't load, etc. which simply takes up space on the disk drive, use the same library and use sync only what you want.
Create playlist(s) of your own music from the library.
Add/remove from those playlists as you want.
Connect your iPod, select it in iTunes and select the Music tab.
Select Sync music, Sync selected playlists and choose what you want.
The way I do it is I create a main playlist (Chris's Music) of music in the library that I like.
I also create a smart playlist (Not Chris's Music) and set it to Match Rule - Playlist is not Chris's Music.
This helps to manage my music by showing all music not in main playlist so I can browse for music I may have missed or now want to add.
I do the same for my daughters iPod except she gets to pick her own stuff.
This way whenever any music is added by either of us, it is available to the other with no problems.

  • Sharing music from  single central folder to PC, and MacAir: a bit confused

    Hi
I have about 4000 songs in a single folder on my PC at home. I was previously using Mediaplayer to listen to them, but then bought a MacAir and have got involved with iTunes.
    I'd like to
    - have iTunes set up on the PC to look at the folder on it's own C: drive
    - have the MacAir (and synced iPod) look at the same folder shared from the PC
    - ideally have one set of playlists which either machine can update
    - be able to disconnect the MacAir from the network (when I go out) and still be able to use iTunes somehow
    - be able to buy songs from iTunes on either the MacAir or the PC and for them to end up in the PC C: drive
    Is this possible?
    Many thanks
    Tim

I know this topic has been covered in many places but I really can't see a clear answer having trawled through. Any help would be great.
    Thanks

  • Major confusion re: shared history & open tabs

The subject line refers to a problem I'm having with iCloud shared history and tabs using Safari on my iPad (3rd Gen., iOS 8.3), my iPhone 4s (iOS 8.3), and Safari 8.03 on my iMac (Maverick).
The problem seems to be with my iPad. Using it, I can see the history of what I've done using Safari on the iMac and iPhone but none of what I've done on the iPad. Naturally, what I've done on the iPad does not show up in History on the iMac or iPhone. Similarly, while I can see tabs currently open on the iMac and iPhone on any of the three devices, I can only see open tabs on the iPad *on* the iPad -- i.e., I ca't see them on the iMac or iPhone.
I'm logged into the same iCloud account on all three devices and Safari is switched "on" in the iCloud preferences. I restarted the iPad. I turned Safari "off" in iCloud prefs on the iPad. (When it asked what I wanted to do with Safari data synced with iCloud -- yeah, right -- I choose to keep it on the iPad. Then I turned it back "on" and no change on the iMac and iPhone.
    Any suggestions?

Firefox Sync isn't intended for the purpose of doing a "backup" and restoration, but some users have been successful using it for that. You need to have your username, password, and the '''Sync Key'''.
IMO, you are better off doing it manually. <br />
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information <br />
That support article also cover restoration of your "information".
There's also the MozBackup program that is made for that purpose. <br />

  • Unsure how the deauthorizing works.  I don't want to deauthorize my current puter.  Just want to eliminate any sharing on puters I no longer own.  Confused.

Need to deauthorize sharing on computers I no longer own.  When I look at the instructions, I'm unwilling to hit "deauthorize this computer"...worried it will deautorize that particular puter.  Don't wanna do that....just want to eliminate sharing on other puters.

Should all be explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
You can safely deauthorize and then reauthorize the computer in front of you. You can't deauthorize individual computers you can no longer access, but if you have 5 authorizations in total you can remove them all, then authorize the computers that you want.

  • Confusion about Automatic Shared Memory Management

    Hi,
Oracle Database 10g includes the Automatic Shared Memory Management feature which simplifies the SGA memory management significantly. To use Automatic Shared Memory Management, we have to set the SGA_TARGET initialization parameter to a nonzero value and the STATISTICS_LEVEL initialization parameter to TYPICAL or ALL.
Oracle Database 10g Rel. 2 documentation, in some places, says that:
If SGA_TARGET is specified, then the following FIVE memory pools are automatically sized:
    * Buffer cache (DB_CACHE_SIZE)
    * Shared pool (SHARED_POOL_SIZE)
    * Large pool (LARGE_POOL_SIZE)
    * Java pool (JAVA_POOL_SIZE)
    * Streams pool (STREAMS_POOL_SIZE)
    Ref.:
    1. http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams192.htm
    2. http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/memory.htm
    3. Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators - Student Guide
But in some places I found the following:
If SGA_TARGET is specified, then the buffer cache (DB_CACHE_SIZE), Java pool (JAVA_POOL_SIZE), large pool (LARGE_POOL_SIZE), and shared pool (SHARED_POOL_SIZE) memory pools are automatically sized.
Here you can see that Streams Pool is not included in the automatically sized pools.
    Ref.:
    1. http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/build_db.htm#sthref252
Also, according to Oracle Press' Book "OCP Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators Exam Guide:
Under Automatic Shared Memory Management, the database manages the
following FOUR major components of the SGA, also known as the auto-tuned SGA
    parameters:
    ■ Buffer cache (DB_CACHE_SIZE)
    ■ Shared pool (SHARED_POOL_SIZE)
    ■ Large pool (LARGE_POOL_SIZE)
    ■ Java pool (JAVA_POOL_SIZE)
It is important to understand that even under Automatic Shared Memory
Management, you still need to configure any SGA component other than the four
auto-tuned components. Following are the manually sized components of the SGA:
    ■ Redo Log Buffer
    ■ The KEEP and RECYCLE buffer caches (if specified)
    ■ The nonstandard block size buffer caches (if specified)
    ■ The new Streams pool SGA component
    ■ The new Oracle Storage Management (OSM) buffer cache, which is meant
    for the optional ASM instance
Now my question is "IS Streams Pool an auto-tuned SGA parameter?"
    Thanks in advance.
    --Khan.

    Hi,
I would advise you to read Document I.D. Note:295626.1 on Oracle Metalink.
    It states that
When enabled, it lets Oracle decide of the right size for some components of the SGA:
    SHARED POOL
    LARGE POOL
    JAVA POOL
DB CACHE (using the DB_BLOCK_SIZE value)
The SGA_TARGET value will therefore define the memory size sharable between auto-tuned and manual parameters.
    The manual parameters are:
    DB_<KEEP/RECYCLE>CACHESIZE
    DB_nK_CACHE_SIZE (non default block size)
    LOG_BUFFER
    FIXED SGA
    STREAMS_POOL_SIZE

Several people are able to login to the same group voice mailbox as intended. The problem is that if they do it simultaneously, and listen to the same message, two or more people end up following up on the same item. Is there a setting that deals with this in some way? Perhaps allowing only one person to log in at a time? Or only allows a single user to listen to a single message at a time?

    You should consider the following:
    Dispatch Messages
You can use the dispatch message feature to send a message to a distribution list (from either a call handler or interview handler). The message is configured such that only one user in the group needs to act on the message. When listening to a dispatch message, users are given the option to accept, postpone, or decline the message.
Dispatch messages are handled as follows:
•If a user chooses to accept the message, all other copies of the message are removed from the mailboxes of the other members of the distribution list, regardless of whether the other users have listened to and postponed the message.
•If a user chooses to postpone the message, it remains as an unread message in the mailbox of that user and in the mailboxes of the other members of the distribution list.
•If the user chooses to decline the message, it is removed from the mailbox of that user, but copies of the message remain as unread in the mailboxes of the other members of the distribution list.
•If there is only one copy of the dispatch message remaining, and no user has yet chosen to accept the message, the final user whose mailbox it is in must accept it. That user is not given the option to decline the message.
Dispatch messaging is useful in situations where a team is available to respond to issues, but only one member of the team needs to respond. For example, an IT department may want to set up a call handler to take messages from employees who need assistance, and then send the messages as dispatch messages to a distribution list comprised of IT department staff. All of the members of the distribution list receive a copy of each message. Team members can then decide whether to accept or decline a message; declined messages are then picked up by other team members.

That should provide the functionality you're looking for where only one user is responsible for following up on a message.
