Sharing content from MacBook to TV.

I have Apple TV. I can share content via iTunes by pointing it to Apple TV. How can I do the same for content coming through Safari (i.e. PBS.org for example)? When I run a video I don't get the apple TV icon with the video control informatin

You can't. You can only use airplay with iTunes. Other content can be streamed with airplay via a compatible app on an IOS device or mirrored using iPad 2/iPhone 4S
Or you can connect the MB

  • HT5922 Volume control Itunes Shared Library from Macbook air played through iPad

    Hi everyone,
I am using iPad Air to airplay through use of iTunes shared library from Macbook, to Play to my Apple TV using the Remote App from apple on the iPad.
I noticed that the swipe up control screen volume control does not affect the volume on my speakers of the Denon which is perfectly connected with apple tv. The only thing which controls the volume is the Denon volume control.
The iTunes  volume control on the Macbook also do not work with Apple TV when airplaying
I assume this is because of the Denon Reciever, but would like to hear if others who are connecting directly without a multimedia amplifier and speakers are also unable to raise volume using itunes control or not?
Thans in advance for any feedback given.

I think this may be a clue to the problem. When you purchased the MBA did you restore any of your personal data from a prior backup? In particular, did you restore any prior data in the Music folder?
Or, did you simply launch iTunes and enable iTunes Match?

  • Sharing content between macbook air and imac

    Hi there,
I appreciate this is a naiive question but i want to share content from my imac to my macbook air (music and photos not on my stream). Everything (calendars etc.) is all synched up using the cloud but can I simply connect my macbook air to my imac and drag away?
    That seems too simple!

If you want to share just a few gigabyte of data and aren't concerned about putting stuff in the cloud, consider DropBox. Or....
    1) Open System Preferences on both computers & select the Sharing tab
    2) In the left side of the dialog box there's a list of sharing services. Turn on File Sharing (I also use Screen Sharing which lets me control one Mac with the other. Convenient at times) In the top give each computer a meaningful name if you haven't already.
    3) Give the computer a minute or two and then from one computer (doesn't matter which) open a Finder window and look under the shared are of the sidebar. (You may need to turn on the shared devices in the Finder preferences)
    4) in the dialog box enter the user name and password for the computer you are trying to share not the computer you are logging in from.
    5) you'll get a window of your user directory and from there you can find the data you want to copy onto your computer. You can also copy data from the computer you are using onto the computer you are sharing.

  • How do I sync content from Macbook (legacy) to Imac (newer); same Itunes account?

I've had a MacBook for some time and have acquired content (copied CDs I owned onto itunes, etc).  I then bought an Imac.  Now I have an Imac with most of my content, but not all.  How do I go about syncing the content from my MacBook onto my Imac without losing any stuff?  Thanks in advance,

  • Tranfering content from MacBook to MacBook air

I have not received my custom air yet, but was wondering how I will transfer my entire content from black MacBook to air, since air has no FireWire. In the past I have just transferred user content via FireWire on both computers and that has worked perfectly. Any thoughts thanks

    Hi,
I heard that it's advisable to do a new installation ourselves once again when we've just received our Mac because factory installation may not be perfect.
No. There's no basis for that. Not in the OSX world, anyway.
I think it is good to do partition as well before the installation so that we can have one partition only for OS and another partition for our photos, music etc. It is nice because when we want to migrate our stuff, we can simply use CCC to clone the second partition into an external HD and thus migrate our stuff to another computer with migration assistant.
Also no. That may be advisable on Windoze or other OSs, but not OSX.
First, OSX works much better (and faster) with OSX and home folders in a single partition. And, if you guess wrong about the sizes, you'll either waste a lot of space on the OSX partition, or have too little free space on it, possibly causing performance problems or data loss.
Second, Migration Assistant (or the similar Setup Assistant) doesn't transfer OSX, but it does transfer everything else.
Third, that would require re-installation of most or all complex applications -- the ones that come with installers. Those installers put other files in other places, often in your system folders, in addition to installing the app in /Applications. In your scenario, none of those files would be transferred, so the apps wouldn't work well, if at all. And those that store their purchase keys or serial numbers in a system folder will require re-entry or re-authorization.
But MIgration Assistant (or Setup Assistant) does transfer those files.

  • How to stream content from Macbook Pro to Samsung SmartTV

How can I view photos from iPhoto on my Macbook Pro on my Samsung SmartTV?  Samsung offers software only for PCs.

If you have satellite/cable TV and your box has an ethernet port and you have a DVR it's also possible to stream content from your Mac to a tv.

  • Sharing ethernet from Macbook pro to wifi for my iphone.

Internet sharing has worked completely fine for me for about 3 weeks up until now.  Now, when I try to connect to the network on my iPhone, it connects for about a second, then drops connection. (This connecting and disconnecting happens rapidly if I stay on the Wi-Fi choice tab on my phone.)  The network shows 3 full bars for connectivity, however when I choose it and the flickering between "choose a network" and the actual network being chosen happens, the 3 bars become greyed out.  It jumps from the list of network up to appearing as the chosen network about 5 times than stops (ending up back on the list to choose from).  I'm not sure why this started.  I tried to connect my friend's tablet to the network and the same thing happened so I know it is a problem with my computer and not my phone.  I've restored and reset network settings on both my phone and macbook several times.  I just installed mavericks today in hopes that it might fix something but the same problem occurs.  My macbook is still able to connect to the internet just fine when sharing is turned on which leads me to believe that the ethernet cord I am using and the port on my macbook are perfectly fine.  I haven't seen any problems similar to the one I am having right now so I am trying to explain it the best I can.  Can anyone help me figure out what is going on and what (if anything) can be fixed?  Also, for the sake of providing all helpful information, I am on a college campus in a dorm room so messing with the router or modem or anything like that is not an option.  The reason I share the ethernet from my macbook to wifi for my phone is because the wifi from the college is horrible and I am forced to use up all of my data quickly while I am in my room unless I can get this sharing to start working again.  If anyone has an possible solutions or theories as to what is happening please let me know! Thank you!

Hi Slickwill since you added Mavericks today its possible it is the problem. Read some helpful tips from OSX Daily

  • Viewing content from macbook on AppleTV = confusing

I would like to view photos and videos from my Macbook on Apple TV. I don't understand why it is actually so confusing. On Apple's website regarding setting up Home Sharing, it doesn't say what you do after you turn on home sharing. Then what do you do? I still don't see any added functionality to then view my stuff. Please help me understand this:
    1) You can only view photos/videos through iTunes? You cannot go directly from  iPhoto or Quicktime to Apple TV? To view individual images?
    2) I did manage to turn on home sharing in itunes and select the photo albums to share, and then put them up on the tv ( though I can't remember how now ). I checked "invlude videos", but the videos do not appear. I have some AVIs and some MOVs, it appears the MOVs (recorded from iPhone) do appear, but no other formats?
I'm thinking it's actually easier to buy a cable and physically connect my laptop to the tv, and use the tv as the screen.
This whole thing is ridiculously picky! I know it's supposed to be simple but it's really not. Where can I get a thorough explanation on how this all works? Not the skimmed over generalities that Apple provides, but the detailed step-by-steps that include what you can and cannot view... I'm tearing my hair out here. Thank you.

You can do that but you'll need to use a 3rd party DVD player, there are a number of free ones that can be downloaded from the Internet, such as VLC. It's likely that Apple's license to distribute DVD playing software doesn't allow the playback to be streamed (AirPlay) to other devices that might be capable of recording it.

  • Desperate - file sharing issue from MacBook to IMAC

I'm reaching the end of my tether - I am using a new IMAC as my central computer which gets backed upto onto a time capsule - I have a MacBook which I wish to be able to access the files on the IMAC, make changes and save ( word, excel) - this is so that when my wife is at the main computer I can still work on my college work that’s on the IMAC.
I log into both machines with the same user / password - on the IMAC I have enabled file sharing for the documents folder and given myself read& write access - I have done this via the system preferences method ( using the sharing option) and the get info method by right clicking on the folder - via the get info method I have enabled ' apply to enclosed items ' so that the permission rights are applied to all files in the folder.
I access the IMAC from the finder window on the MacBook - connect as me ( ie the same user and password that I have logged onto both machines with ) and then find the file that I need to work on - it opens but when I come to save its says the fie is read only - what is odd is that on the same file from the MacBook I can change the name of the file and even delete it remotely from the MacBook.
I have tried various permutations to see if I can ascertain the route cause – for example - if in the sharing preferences window I activate file sharing, in the shared folders window I activate the relevant documents folder on my IMAC but clear the 'users' list of everyone including myself (which in theory should stop me accessing the file on the IMAC from the MacBook I’m assuming ) then when I try to access the folder /files from my MacBook I still get the same issue - I can open docs but can't save
    help ....help .... help .....!

If you are logging in to the account on the remote machine, you already have read/write privileges. If it is the default ~/Documents folder you used the "apply to enclosed items" on, you passed on the "everyone deny delete" ACL entry that was on the folder - you should never use the "apply to enclosed items" option for system created folders. What are the permissions amd ACL entries for the files and the enclosing folder?

  • Sending content from Macbook Pro to Apple TV

Have had Apple TV for a year, and am still don't know how to send movies from the laptop (Mavericks) to Apple TV. Have turned on Home Sharing, but what then?
Is a cable necessary? A good wireless (Verizon)  network is available.
If someone could post a step-by-step procedure I'd be very grateful.

home sharing is the appletv being able to access supported media in a shared itunes lib on your computer it works pretty much the same way as other computers on the same network as you can access media from your itunes lib if you set it as shared
iTunes: How to share music and video
airplay mean sending media such as audio and video to be displayed on the appletv as in pretty much the opposite as shared lib
not all macs support airplay mirror which include video read more

  • Sharing files from macbook pro with PC

Hi there - and thanks in advance!
I followed the instructions (or so I thought) at http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharemacfilesxp_7.htm
and I can see the mac folders on the PC but when I try to access them from the PC, I get "not accessible. You may not have permission to use this folder. Access is denied."
I have SMB on and a guest account with allow guests to connect to shared folders checked.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Casey

Is CaseyLee the new user you created?
Things certainly look right to me!
Might be worth shutting down both computers, then restarting and giving it another try.
I don't have my mom's netbook handy--that's the computer I was tinkering with to get sharing working--but I may have had to resort to ftp sharing. This should work by entering ftp://<your Mac's ip> (without the brackets, of course!)and hitting enter.

  • Sharing internet from macbook pr

I have a sprint wireless card for my internet connected to the express slot in my MBP. Previously, I turned on internet sharing in the system preferences and shared from my express card to ethernet. The ethernet would connect to the wan port on the AEBS. I would set up the base station just like as if it were connected to a modem from an ISP. it was set to share a single ip address. The only thing I would have to do is ignore "double nat". Now, with the time capsule, no matter how I try and configure it, I can not get it to share the connection from my MBP to my pc or apple tvs. I have the new update and still does not work.

When you enable Internet Sharing, the Mac doing the Sharing activates a simple Router in software and provides IP Addresses via DHCP.
It is simple, but elegant, and in typical Apple fashion, "it just works".

When trying to share internet to my phone from my macbook air on 10.9.4, my phone will be able to connect to the internet but my laptop won't be. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? Please let me know if I need to provide any more information. Thanks!

    Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
Release the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
    I hope I helped.

  • Transfer contents from macbook to apple tv

i have few selected movie files want to transfer to apple tv. i was able to transfer contents before but with latest update software seems i can no longer do that. have i overlooked anywhere?

I assume you mean sync with AppleTV not move the only copy to AppleTV (which is not possible unless you never want to access the file in some other way again).
Is the AppleTV set up to sync with iTunes not stream?
Secondly older software used to have a Source option between AppleTV (synced items) and the iTunes library (streamed content). The 2.0+ software makes no distinction in the list - if you've chosen syncing and have copied stuff over, if the computer/iTunes is off you only see what's on AppleTv whereas you see that and everything else listed together if iTunes is running and connected.
