Sharing documents in iCloud

I have a business iCloud account so that I can work on documents at home. My boss has the documents in iBooks but when I go to my ibooks they are not there.  We both have our documents and data turned on.  Any input would be great.

Hey blue_wave,
Thanks for the question. You can share iWork documents with anyone, no need for family sharing:

  • Where do I store my iDisk shared documents on iCloud?

Mobileme states that I need to remove iDisk files before June 30th but, Where do I store my iDisk shared documents on iCloud?
As a loyal user and paid subscriber of mobileme since inception, I'm a bit confused.

Unfortunately, iCloud  does not offer an alternative to MobileMe's iDisk. You will need to find a third-party solution such as dropbox or sugarsync.

  • Sharing documents using iCloud

I'm a LONGTIME MobileMe/.Mac user.  I loved that I could post documents in the iDisk and share them with others (I used it for family recipes!).  Is this possible with iCloud?

Thank you.  That's what I thought.  I have set-up Dropbox for all the family recipes so my grown children can easily access them without having to call me for them.
I'm having a VERY hard time getting excited about iCloud other than it's free and I had to pay for MobileMe/.Mac. I have not yet upgraded my computer to Lion so I can't yet use it but will have to soon since MobileMe goes away in June.  I have a few programs I will lose and I'm not sure about my two printers - hope at least one will work with Lion.  I used MobileMe for SO many years - since it came out - and loved it.

  • How can I use pages.app to edit an iCloud shared document?

Sharing a pages doc on iCloud is pretty easy. However the recipent/collaborator the document is shared with appears to be able to edit such document only through the browser on iCloud. What if the collaborator has his/her own pages.app installed on the Mac, is it not possible to somehow link or download the shared document so that he/she can use his pages.app on the Mac to do all the editing and viewing?

The second option assumes a service other than Apple's icloud with more direct file management. For example: Download the DropBox apps and set up an account (basic account is free). Load the files to DropBox via Pages using Open in another app, or via the dropbox website in a browser on a computer (the latter would be much quicker). From the Dropbox app, you can open them in Pages and save the file there. Box will do the same thing.
But honestly, just because particular files exist in icloud doesn't mean you actually have to open them on a specific device. Might be much easier to get creative with some folder naming and leave them as is.

  • Sharing Documents between the iPad and Mac using iCloud?

I use Pages on my iPad and have it set to share documents via iCloud.  When I open Pages on my iMac,however, I do not see any way to access those documents on iCloud.  Am I missing something really obvious?

I have absolutely the latest apps and operating system on my iPad and my iMac.
The whole point, I thought, of iCloud's documents sync is that documents should be easily sync'd between Pages, Numbers and Keynote on different platforms.
Pages on the iPad and iPhone store the docments in a "special" folder.  In Mac OSX documents can be saved anywhere on the Mac.
I don't know about the "native" file format on the iPhone of iPad, but if I email the document to my Mac, Pages on the Mac can open the file.  Its just that I shouldn't have to email it since it's already on iCloud and the Mac has a connection to iCloud.

  • Can multiple people edit and update a shared document in Numbers?

    Hi!
Just a quick one for you guys!
I have recently discoverer 'Numbers' which is great! I then discovered you could share a spreadsheet which is perfect for us as we quiet often need to be working in the same document from our iPhones. However, we do not seem to be able to see each others changes on the shared document. Is it actually possible for us to both work in the spreadsheet and it automatically update each others spreadsheet or is it that when we are done editing, we can only send it to our own iCloud?
    Thanks!
    Ry

If you share an iCloud link, you can all edit the same document through a web browser.  But it has to be a "full" web browser.  Mobile Safari on the iPhone can't handle it.
If you're editing the document in Numbers for iOS then others won't be able to see your changes. You'll have to email or share a link to your edited version.

  • Sharing notes on icloud

How can I share a note on icloud with another person and allow that person to edit it?

You can't share notes using iCloud short of sharing your iCloud account with the other person.  If you have Pages, you could collaborate on a Pages document using iCloud (see http://help.apple.com/pages/icloud/1/#/gile83665246).  Otherwise, you'll have to use an alternative service like Dropbox.

  • I have a mac air and an iMac and both have Pages. I use Pages on my air and save all documents to iCloud. I can see them on my iMac but it won't open with Pages. It becomes visible if I change it to open with preview but I can't interact with it.

I have an mac air and an iMac 5k - pages runs on both.  I use pages on my air and save all my documents to iCloud drive. I can see the documents on my iMac but some won't open in pages which is bizarre? They will open if I change it to open with preview but then all I can do is read it  - I can't add to the document - All I want is to be able to see all my documents on all my devices and to be able to have them sync so I can add to the documents from  any of my devices. I also have an iPhone 6 and an iPadair2 but I would be happy just to have the iMac and macair sync for starters. I have folders within folders in my documents,. The folders which contain pdf's and individual files open OK . The one I am having difficulty with is the file which I use for ongoing correspondence - in other words it is quite long - I keep adding to it  ( by copying letters in and letters out so I can see a sequential history of what has been going on by scrolling down ) in date order so that it could be 1 - 100 pages long - but I don't think the size is a problem. I don't understand why some folders can open and others not . Has anyone any suggestions please. I have been trying to get this to work for months since iCloud drive came in. It has got much better but it is still not good enough  - or maybe it's me?

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

  • Microsoft Office Documents in iCloud CAN Be Done...

    Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my experience as I've seen threads saying it can't be done and a lot of people confused as to, why not? Here's my method of working so hopefully everyone can enjoy this feature like I am. The image below IS a Word document but it's for my solicitor so has personal info on it.
    Just list a few specs I'm using as the system layout might be different to yours;
    OS X Mavericks 10.9.3
    Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac
    MacBook Pro Mid 2009 model
    Step 1: Test Document
Go to Applications and open up 'TextEdit' and click the bottom left hand corner which states 'New Document' and type whatever you want, maybe 'test text'. Go to save and choose a name to save the document under BUT in the field where it says 'Where' choose iCloud... There's a method to my working.
Step 2: Finding the 'Hidden' Library folder in Finder and Mobile Documents
Click 'Finder' and at the top menu bar find 'Go' and click that, with your finger on the options key simultaneously (my keyboard states 'alt' and has the squiggle for Options) then you should see Library pop up, click that. A whole new 'screen' should pop up and scroll down until you find 'Mobile Documents'. Open it up and this is where ALL the iCloud content is saved so don't try and delete or change too much in here if you can help it. Go to the 'com~apple~TextEdit' folder and you should see your STEP 1 test document in there... So, we know it works now? Keep this open for the time being so you don't have to route through again...
Step 3: Putting Microsoft Office Documents in iCloud
Choose what WORD (Pages), EXCEL (Numbers) or POWERPOINT (Keynote) document you want to save in iCloud and open that document up as normal (so in Microsoft Office). Click SAVE AS and here's a pictured example below, save the document as .docx and save. You'll now have TWO of the same documents I have one which is compatible with Mac & Windows but the second is JUST for Mac (I believe) and this .docx is the one you'll need for iCloud.
Step 4: Putting the Word or Document into iCloud
Go back to your Finder window which has the Mobile Documents but then go to File > New Finder Window (So you have them side by side like the picture) > Locate your .docx Saved document and all you need to do is drag that file to the area you want it to go. So, if it's a 'Word' document you'll want to go to Pages as its equivalent. Open up the com~apple~Pages folder and you'll get two other folders and open the one on the left and drag the file into there.
Step 5: Check it's actually in iCloud...
    Go to, www.icloud.com
Sign in with your ID etc. and it'll be in there... If you have Pages etc. on your iPhone or iPad... i believe it'll be in there but I haven't got these on my iPhone or iPad. let me know how you do?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can share some word documents with pages on your iOS devices.
If you want to upload documents that aren't for use with iOS devices this User Tip might be of interest.

  • Pages won't open documents from iCloud

I have a bunch of documents in icloud.  I can open them on my iPad, but I cannot open them on my MBP.  I get an error message simply saying Pages cannot open the document.  This is a brand new MBP running Mountain Lion.

I've encountered this issue a couple of times with Pages 5.1. You try to open a document you've been previously working on that's saved in iCloud, and almost instantly Pages says it can't open the document.
I logged into iCloud and confirmed the document was there are editable with iCloud Pages beta.
You'll find you can create a new document, save it to iCloud, but be unable to open it. Likewise, you can rename and duplicate documents in iCloud using Pages, but still it won't open anything.
Before you get too carried away signing out of iCloud, or deleting folders and what not as I've seen suggested, restart your computer to see if that fixes the problem.
In my case this worked, and effectively, your computer is signing out of iCloud, then signing back in when you restart.
There could be many reasons aside from the obvious bug in Pages as to why this might occur. Are you signed in on two different user accounts using the same iCloud account, as is frequently the situation with me, as I have a work user and home user on my MBP.
Is your wireless connection a little unreliable. You might be able to browse, but the signal strength might be too low to interact with iCloud reliably.
In any event, the good old "turn it off, then turn it on again" fixed the problem for me. Try that first as it's the least destructive.

  • When I try to open a Pages document from iCloud, created on my iPad, I get message stating I need a newer version of Pages.  When I go to app store all I get is "installed" when looking at pages app. my Macbook pro is up to date with all updates.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • How to share documents with iCloud and Pages?

I keep getting reminded to remove everything from iWork, but I don't really understand how to share anything (documents) on iCloud. Am I missing something? (Well, I know I am, but it isn't exactly straightforward to me.)
Could someone point me to some information about that?
    Thanks.

You can store iWorks docs on iCloud, but you cannot share them with others.  The old iWorks beta web site let you host files for other remote users to have access to them, and iCloud (at least not now) does not allow that.

  • Ipad can't see numbers document in icloud

I have icloud set up on my imac, itouch and ipad.  I have Numbers on all of them. I saved a numbers document on the cloud from imac, and it appeared on ipad. This morning I saved another numbers document on icloud, but no matter what I do it won't show up on ipad. I've wasted SO MUCH TIME (not to mention the money it cost to buy the apps) on this useless "timesaving" feature.  *** is going on?

Disregard.  It apparently took about 15 minutes for the sync to occur and now I'm seeing my iCloud documents on my iPad.
