Sharing Double-Audio (Voice + Sounds generated by Software in PC)

I use Software in my computer to generate "audio-visual output" which is visible on my screen. I share and discuss this with my Skype partner. The problem is purely audio. We use no webcam. To keep the concepts clear I define here:"AudioMIC" to mean the audio component coming from my voice (registered by the built-in microphone-array of the computer."AudioPC" will mean the audio generated by the computer software, which I want to share. For the last 2 years there was no problem. He could hear AudioMIC and AudioPC at the same time. (Of course I arrange to hear my own AudioPC over a Loudspeaker, so I know what he is hearing.) But since about 3 months ago Skype seems to have a new way of dealing with “double audio sources”. This makes it impossible for him to hear my AudioPC. Not always a problem, but usually, and it’s getting worse. When the problem occurs it is NOT a matter of being not loud enough: it is completely suppressed. What I am about to describe IS  AMAZING (I mean Point 3, not Points 1 or 2):(1) I can hear my own AudioPC out of a loudspeaker while speaking to him (as I just mentioned).(2) So AudioMIC and AudioPC are intimately mixed  in the sound waves of the room in which I am sitting. Therefore we can assume that in the microphone signal these two components are inseparable and electronically inseparable).(3) HE CAN HEAR MY VOICE. What he hears from my voice obviously comes from my computer microphone. And the microphone obviously registers all soundwaves AudioMIC and AudioPC which, as mentioned, are mixed up in the room. And yet when the Microphone signal gets passed to the Skype partner the component AudioPC is COMPLETELY SUPPRESSED. Like magic! Seems a subtle problem for a technical expert. How can the two components ever get untangled once mixed! The only explanation I can think of is Skype must have introduced some novel technology (presumably a few months ago): something like a noise cancelling technique (perhaps to suppress feedback), which knows the phase and amplitude of AudioPC. Since the electrical signal AudioPC originates PC internally before being mixed with my voice, its amplitude and phase can in principle be measured while still isolated, the aim being presumably to suppress feedback. But it's hard to imagine this working so perfectly: (What about the frequency response of the microphone?). I would want to deactivate this function, if it exists? But all this is just speculation. The question is "Anyway can anybody suggest a solution?"I even tried using an external microphone (not the PC internal one) and also an external sound card Scarlett 2i2. But the problem was still there. Many thanks in advance. carlo_37

  • GarageBand (4.1.2) only allows 1 software track using Korg MicroStation Plug-in Editor as software sound generator.

I'm using a Korg Microstation with GarageBand (4.1.2,2008), and installed the included plug-in editor to create software-based tracks per instructions. The first (default, grant piano) track allows me to select the Korg Microstation as the sound generator for the track, enabling access to all the Korg sounds: information is properly transmitted and loaded from the Korg into GB. However, no additional tracks can be created in the GB file; attempts to do so trigger the following 2 messages: 1) Failed to load Audio Unit, please contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance. (-10110), followed by: 2) Failed initializing the plug-in. Please check your instrument library and make sure it contains the right factory presets.   I've tried just duplicating the first track, but this brings up the same messages.  To summarize: I am unable to create more than 1 track in a GB file using the Korg Plug-in editor as the sound generator. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who' encountered this problem!

    Update for GarageBand v6.0.5
I used a Korg Microstation and recorded midi to a track in garageband (made edits, etc) and then output the midi back to the Korg again via the supplied VST.
I then created a real instrument track to record the results from via audio inputs.
The best thing with the Korg Microstation is that you can create Zones on the keyboard to use different instruments.
    This was the result:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvEdrsV70Hs&feature=share&list=UUWMd_cOTL-DuQ3IQF HuPY0g
This is the only way round it I have found.
I am looking for a simple 16 track midi sequencer... wish me luck.

  • Why I have to mute Audio Voice Recording Track always in order to subdue the voice recorded when I want to solo other tracks, audio or midi for listening. The other audio tracks don't sound without being muted. Please advise how to deal with this .Thanks

Why I have to mute the Audio Voice recording track  ( the first voice track ) always in order to sudue its recorded sound while I want to listen to other
tracks ( either audio or midi tracks ) in solo ?The other audio tracks with voice recording do not have to be muted in order not to  interfere with other
tracks turned on solo. Can someone kindly explain this phenomenon and any way to fix this ?
    Thanks
    Dan

    Thanks, ATR,
I wll try this--but I still am unclear on how to do what the Manual says is possible: select clips on another track that WILL be moved, if I so desire, so as to remain synched to the main Video track.
    UPDATE:
In the case of inserting Freeze Frame, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Put Video on Vid1 track
    2. Put Music on Sound Track
    3. Ran a few seconds of Vid
    4. Stopped Vid, selected Freeze Frame
    5. Held down Ctrl key while clicking "Insert in Movie"  also tried with holding down Alt key.
Result: a 3 second still was inserted int the Vid1 track.  A corresponding gap was created in the Sound Track.
    6. Slid the final part of the Sound Track to the left along the timeline to re-connect it to the next segment created by the above process.
Result: the video following the final Freeze Frame was pushed to the right end of  Video1 track.
    7. Slid the Sound Track all the way to the left.
Result: the entire Video 1 Track contents were pushed to the right and divided in pieces.
I documented each step with screen shots which I can send if you want them and if I can figure out how to do it.
    UPDATE #2
In the case of inserting a video clip to the Timeline, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Locate video in Project Assets
2a. R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), hold down Ctrl, click Insert to Timeline.
Result: Vid clip is inserted on Video 1 track, Sound Track is separated with a corresponding gap.
2b.  R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), push Alt
Result: pull-down menu disappears as soon as Alt is pushed down.
I can stil drag the Vid clip but it's one more manual step...I love shortcuts!!

  • MP3 audio voice changes

Hi. I've used Capitvate for a couple of years now but have
never imported MP3 audio narration before. What I'm running into is
that when I play back the audio clips (recorded by a woman) it
distorts the voice, slows it down, and it sounds like a man but
only plays about half of the clip before time runs out. If you
click on the audio clip and press 'Play', the voice sounds normal.
I've played with all of the audio settings but it still distorts
    the audio clip. Thanks.

I had this same problem and solved it by converting the MP3
file to a constant, fairly low bit rate. I used Switch or WavePad
software to do this. I found that using an MP3 file with a Constant
Bit Rate of 112 kps works fine. Higher bit rates or using variable
bit rate can cause the audio to slow down.Just one more bizarre
    Captivate bug (among many).

  • I have a Panasonic FZ38 HD camera. I can load and view my hd movies onto iMovie with no problems via my camera or a card reader.  When I try to copy my hd videos from my old Windows pc to my new iMac, the picture speed has doubled but the sound is normal.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ38 HD camera and have lots of hd movie clips stored on my old Windows Pc using Photofun software supplied by Panasonic, which I want to transfer to my new Imac computer.   I am able to copy my most recent movies that are still on the memory card from my camera onto Imovie and view them with no problems at all.  When it comes to copying my old existing hd movies stored on my Windows Pc (and which are no longer stored on a memory card), I discover that when I view them on the Imovie, the speed has doubled but the sound is normal.   In order to transfer my old movies I have copied them back  onto a memory card (SDHC - the same card as previously used) and then put the card back into my camera and then copied them onto my Imac via the camera USB.   I have also used a card reader but get the same result.     If I view the same movie through my camera, or look at it on my old pc, it plays at normal speed.    Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening please?

have you read and watch the Tutorials..? :
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie
iM is a bit.. iffy, when it comes to the definition, what a 'camera' is. historically, only tape based machines were a movie-camera. nowadays still-cams allow movin' images too..
but, as mentioned above: the intended workflow is: material from photo cameras (even when they move) => import via iPhoto; material from video cameras (even when they don't move.. ) => iMovie
when the import is done, you'll notice in all iLife apps the 'media browser' - in iM09, on the very right, the icon with a camera on.. click it, presto, all (incl. your 'videos') your iPhoto Library at hand for usage in iMovie.

If I've made a song with remixed loops, can I post it on SoundCloud to share with facebook friends and stuff? Regarding this statement from the software license agreement: "...however, individual audio loops may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound effects or music beds."

Would you mind continue reading the document you quoted?

  • Trying to create a sound generator in Garage Band

I found a thread that said to go into the edit tab for a software instrument and from there I could make a sound generator for the plugin I installed but I don't see an option for it.  I'm trying to use a soundfont plugin.

that's the edit menu, not tab. skim this tutorial on installing and using SoundFonts:

  • How to get two audio voice and how to identify its frequencies

    hello,,
i am new to javax.sound .. here anybody help me in my mini project
1.. i hv to get to audio voice from two different person same time...
2 next i hv to visualize their audio frequency.... so sure that both the audio voice vary in frequency..
3.. i hv to seggregate this two audio voice and store it in different file and hv to play it separately
is here any body to help me
i will be greatly thanxful 4 ur info

    1. How are you getting the voices at the same time? Are these signals
coming from the same line, e.g. microphone? Or are you just reading
    two audio files from disk?
    2. To get the frequency of a audio signal, you'll need to do Fast Fourier
Transform to that signal. You'll propably need a third party library for this,
    search for this with google.
    3. If your signals are coming from the same source, it's going to be very
hard to filter out one of these voices. If you don't know anything about the
voices in forehand, I don't think this will be possible.
Give some more information about what you're trying to achieve.

  • Changing voice sound from a garage to a rainforest ? in FCP

I have just greenscreened 2 people in a garage, so have a garage contained slighly reverb voices sound..In the film they are speaking in a giant rainforest..
What is the best easiest way to change the sound so they sound as though they are in the open?
What filters to I look at in Audio filters in FCP ?
    Any feedback very much appreciated.

yep already got the bird, gentle river, monkey and ambient music along with a few headhunter noises!?...will try noise gate and experiment there...
I'm sure alot of people are going to be recording greenscreen in a garage or small hall..its sure a major problem trying not to get a reverb sound from external mic and then trying to get rid of reverb as you say.
Thanks for the advice Jim, appreciated.

  • How do I relink audio and sound mxf clips brought into Premiere CC. (works fine in CS5.5)

How do I relink audio and sound mxf clips brought into Premiere CC.  Didn't have this problem in CS5.5 so unsure why they unlink in CC.

I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done.  Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

  • Double audio or no audio

One of our clients is reporting that the Captivate videos, when played from their LMS, have "double" audio, and in one case, no audio.
I've played them myself from the LMS, with no problems.  Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?  Since we are all remoting in to the LMS, stored outside the firm, I'm wondering if download speed is an issue.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

My best guess would be that the people with the double audio have clicked twice on the link to launch the lesson (because they were impatient) and inadvertently started up two instances of the same lesson.
The one with no audio could be just a random glitch, or it could be that the person has their sound turned off on either their sound card or have clicked the mute button on the playbar of the module.

Same issue on my wife's iPhone 4S. I suspect it is related to the recent 6.1.2 iOS update (Note: I have a 3S and the update did not cause any issues).
I've tested both bottom and top mics on the 4S using video recorder and both mics work fine. Speakerphone and headset during calls also work fine. The issue is only related to the bottom mic while making calls. I can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear me. If I hold the mic very close to my mouth, the caller can hear a very low level signal.
The problem appears to be software related, not hardware.

  • Make a teenage voice sound older

I am recording voices in a rural Moroccan dialect to dub onto a documenatry that was produced in English in order for illerate women here to be able to  understand the video (it is about women's rights). There are only teenage girls who can read the script but some of the documentary voices are from older women.  So what specific filters do you suggest to make a young female voice sound older. I have tried lowering the pitch a bit which works somewhat for boys' voices, but it does not seem as effective for girls'.  Any ideas. I am not trying to win an Oscar with this effort, but I don't want the viewer to be distracted by a young voice dubbed over a middle-age woman.

There are several ways to modify pitch. The plugin version is probably going to be the least effective in this situation. If you haven't tried it, using the destructive audio editor (Sample Editor -> Factory -> Time and Pitch Machine) might provide better results — but be sure to save a copy of your unmodified audio, in case you need to undo.
That said, it might be more distracting for the listener to hear a voice that has obviously been modified. A message is a message, no? If the age/sound is a serious concern, it might be worthwhile to cast older women for the voiceover. Or ... why not have the young woman read and translate the script, then have the older woman ADR/record it line-by-line?

  • Filter to make voice sound more "warm"

Looking for the best settings within garageband's filters to make my recorded voice sound a little more full and warm. Im using an Audio Technica AT2020 mic and honestly it sounds really full of treble of cold. Any thoughts?

The Apple Audio Units include a graphic equalizer: you could boost the lower frequencies - not the very lowest, but starting around 100Hz. Don't just boost one frequency, make a smooth cirve from the sliders: bring it back to normal by 1kHz and you might want to roll it down above 3kHz.
