Sharing/Editing playlists between G5 and Macbook

Hi all,
What I'd like to do is this: I have my iTunes library on my G5. I would like to share not only the tunes....but also be able to edit the playlists over my wireless network using my MacBook. I have sharing enabled, and it does show up on the MacBook. But, I'd like to be able to edit the playlists. I've tried pointing the MacBook's iTunes library location to the G5...and that kinda works. But, it won't let me have iTunes running concurrently on both machines. I just want them to sync to each other, and both be on at the same time. Is this possible?

One alternative is iTunes music sharing, while not duplicating the library on the other computer, it allows one computer to see and play the songs from the other computer over your LAN, when the source computer is turned on and running iTunes. You have to open up the iTunes music sharing in the Firewall in Sharing preferences.

There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running. On the other machine enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machies for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto ion both machines.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

Sharing computing power between macpro and macbook pro

Hey all... someone mentioned to me that I can connect my latptop and desktop together so that I can "combine" processsing power. I use various music creation software, logicpro and protools and would like to use the laptop to offload/run the plugins and the desktop to run the audio programs. Can this be done? If so, how? I will also post this to the Logic forum. Thanks.

i must be humorously challenged... LOL... I am using my Macs for processing audio via Protools and Logic. What I wanted to do was to offload some memory intensive programs to the laptop, stuff like Altiverb, Soundtoys and NI software instruments. I generally have no issues running the Logic plugs but add BFD, NI Absynth, Soundtoys Echoboy/Filter Freak and Altiverb, plus Sample Tank etc... and I can melt down the MacPro even with 4G Ram... not so much running Logic but for sure with ProToolsLE.

Sharing Photo Books between iMac and MacBook Pro

Hello!
We created a photo book on iLife 09 on the MacBook Pro and wanted now to use parts of that layout in a new photo book we are creating on the iMac. I opened sharing preferences and opted to share that book, but on the iMac, I only have the photos from the photo book, and not the layout.
Is it possible to share the book including layout between the two computers using a network?

No. The only way to get a book from one Mac to another is to copy the entire library and run that library on the other Mac. You can't move layouts between libraries, only photos as you've already discovered.

Sharing individual playlists between iTunes and Apple TV

When I setup Home Sharing in iTunes to share only one individual playlist to my Apple TV, it still shares my entire library. Why? I have Sharing set to: Share My Library on Selected Networks, Share Selected Playlists, and I have the one playlist I want to share selected.

There is no such option. You can turn home sharing on or off. If you are on a Mac you can set some retractions to photo sharing over home sharing, but that is the only thing you can limit.
If you are talking about the music sharing tab that is from iTunes to iTunes. It has nothing to so with home sharing.

Pages won't sync between iPad and Macbook

I cannot get my pages to sync between iPad and Macbook.
I regularly go back and forth between the two because it's easier to read/edit on iPad and easier to type/copy-paste web info on Macbook.
I'm finding right now that I have done a multitude of edits on my iPad that are not showing up at all when I open the same document on my Macbook.
I have closed the document on my iPad so I expected there to be no problems when I opened it on my Macbook.
Not sure why or what to do....?

I had this issue too - I have been playing around with it for a few days - turns out you need to save the documents on your mac not under "documents" but rather under "Pages - iCloud" (or "Keynote - iCloud" etc.). After doing this, the document appears on my phone, iPad, iCloud.com etc. with the changes.
One way to do this is by clicking the dropdown arrow (it shows up when you mouse over the title) to the right of the title of your document on the grey title bar (the thing at the top of the page - above insert, table, chart etc.) and then editing the "where" column.

5. Check Firewall Settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu > System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
Block all incoming connections
Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
It made sense to me, but its still puzzling me after restarting a router would (in my first attempt) resolve the issue for a day. This this time I applied the port forwarding TCP and UDP ports and saved the settings in the DLink DIR-655 and both my iPad2 and iPhone 3GS were now again finding the share. My ATV2 is also now accepting the Share.
Tommorrow will be the true test.

My Pages and Numbers are stopped synchronizing via icloud between ipad and macbook pro. Everytime I edit something to Pages or Numbers on my ipad, my ipad failed to upload the edited version to icloud. what happened?

I have a slightly different problem with Numbers and Pages failing to sync between a Macbook and iPad via iCloud. I have checked all the obvious settings. I think the problem may be that the Macbook username is my email address, whereas the iPad username is my wife's email address. However, both addresses are named alibis for exactly the same email address from our internet provider – eg we get the same emails, despite appearing to have different addresses. So I don't understand why the iPad cannot pick up Numbers or Pages files that have been opened and saved in iCloud on my Macbook. Other apps, such as iCal, sync perfectly, but i guess they don't use iCloud. Any help appreciated!
(We have tried emailing Numbers files to the iPad, but that is very slow and innefective.)

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?

I am curious if possibly the hotel has some sort of VOIP block on. Have you tried Skype? Did you talk to the hotel staff? My husband is traveling to Milan in a couple of days and I wonder if he will run into the same issue. He has had no problems from Istanbul but he is staying in a corporate apartment there. I think i have found how to solve the problem. I went into address book preferences and i noticed i didn't have icloud enabled here. As long as i use icloud contacts rather than 'on my mac' contacts it now seems to delete and add across the 2 devices. Many thanks

we are using R12.1.3 and we planned to use iRec module.
so we decided to go with External web tier and it will be placed in DMZ for external users.
Is it possible to have shared file system between internal and external web server when external server is in DMZ?
Is it safe to go with shared application Tier file system between internal and external server (or) to have seperate file system in externel web tier?
