Sharing files without an Internet Connection - any solutions?

Has anyone found a way to share files to/from the iPad when an Internet connection is not available? We are considering iPads for International conferences and there are times when there's no Internet connection or someone who needs to share files with us can not access the Internet. Using a laptop this is easily solved with USB thumb drives.
Short of a hack, which isn't really an option, has anyone found a way to share files on the fly? Or is an Internet connection and file sharing or email the only viable solution?

Check out siteclone in the app store. It basically allows you to set up an FTP directory as a "push" location, and clone it on remote devices. Your remote users would be provided a location and user/pass, and they would be populated with whatever content you want them to have. When offline, they can see everything without the need for a connection.

I just got my iPhone, but my version of iTunes is outdated and so I can't use it with the phone. It's a long, long story, but I'm without an internet connection for a few months.
Can I just download the .exe file to a flash drive and then use that to update my current iTunes, or do I have to uninstall iTunes before I do that? Or is there another way?

Yes, you can. Download the iTunes installer on any computer that has Internet access. Then copy that installer to any removable medium - flash drive, CD/DVD etc. You can then take the installer to your computer and use it to update your copy of iTunes.
do I have to uninstall iTunes before I do that?
No, you don't have to uninstall iTunes before updating (at least not unless something goes wrong).
Note that there may be issues with an iPhone - registering, updating, etc. - if your computer doesn't have Internet access. I don't have an iPhone so I'm not sure.

Hello all,
I am trying to get the following to work. We have an intranet page which users need to connect to, to operate some machines. This is done through an windows 8.1 Tablet with an assigned KIOSK mode app (Kios SP Browser).
This works great as the assigned app is the only thing the user can run and we don't have to really harden the device. One drawback in using the assigned apps is that it needs to be an New App (as Microsoft call it)
The app is installed on an reference machine which runs in workgroup mode (no domain connection is needed on the devices) and after the reference machine is installed it is imaged with the use of Acronis. After deployment the tablet has no connection to
internet and the intranet page is wireless put available to the tablets. As a side note, the tablet operates with local accounts and the app is installed using an corporate hotmail account we created just for this purpose.
I now deployed the image over 20 different tablet devices and this worked great until recently a few devices start to complain it needs to connect to the windows shop before the app can be started. As the devices don't have internet access this can't be
done and the tablet is rendered useless for the user.
How can i make the app available without internet connection ? and how can i be sure the app will continue to work over time without connection to the store ?

I can't unblock the internet connection as the wireless network doesn't have any internet connection what so ever. The main purpose is to be able to operate the machinery and nothing else, hence the kios app which is being used to show the intranet page
which connects than to the devices.
The problem is that after imaging the app works as expected but after a few days the app stops to work ...
I found the following website over site loading an app without the needed appx files. It shows an way to capture the files during installation from the windows store.

It is a bit strange to have it this difficult to install apps without the needed store and i think that Microsoft should make this easier. I hope this works better and after a few days i will give the feedback how this handles..

Is there a way to use the preview in browser function without an Internet connection?

This morning our cable modem was down and I was making some changes to a page in a Muse site I'm designing. I wanted to preview the changes in a browser, but when I clicked on the Preview button (or clicked on preview in browser), I received a notification that it was checking for an Internet connection and the preview page never completed. Is there a way to use the preview in browser function in Muse without an Internet connection?

Thanks for getting back to me! When our cable modem went down, we were still connected to Airport Base Station, and perhaps it appeared to Muse that we did have an Internet connection. In any case, we have now received a new cable modem and our network is working again. As you suggested, I disconnected from the network and tried preview in Muse again, and now it seems to be working just fine. Perhaps it was just the circumstances of our network problem this morning. Good to know I can use the Muse Preview function off-line!

If you have lion, just install it.. For ML follow this.
How to load 5.6 into ML.

2. Download and install unpkg.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

What is dropping I guess is the question? Is it wireless? Is it your WAN connection? You need to identify where the problem is.
To do that you need to try a few things.
1. If you use wireless then bypass it and use ethernet if that is possible.. even just drag things around so you can test if ethernet fixes it. If so and wireless is in fact the problem.. then you can do a few things.
2. Wireless issues with the 7.6.4 firmware are common. Did you upgrade about the time the problems started? I am afraid the bad news is, downgrading is not like in the past where it fixed things.. 7.6.4 seems to have some permanent effect on the TC and it is never quite the same again. How this is even possible I have yet to determine.
The usual fix is factory reset.
Set wireless with short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Different name for 5ghz.
Make sure security is WPA Personal with pure alphanumeric password of 8-20 characters.. unless you are more paranoid.
Fix the wireless channels and test in order. 11, 8, 6, 1
And for 5ghz try the lowest channel, 36 and then a high one, around 150.
3. No improvement factory reset again.. downgrade to 7.6.1 or even 7.5.2 if it is an older Gen4 .. at 18months it might be old enough.. no harm trying. Factory reset again after the downgrade to see if we can get rid of the memory effect.. then try the above steps again.
No luck.. whatever the upgrade did it did permanently.. no fix is available until Apple pushes out a new firmware to fix what they did in the last one. Buy a different wireless router for now and use the TC in bridge just for TM backups.

It won't allow us to assign ipads without an internet connection. Where we work our internet is locked down for security and ipads dont have internet access capabilities and we are not talking about 1 or 2 ipads, we are talking about 100.

I have posted a bug report for what good it will do.
It is also a presumption that everybody has 3.4GB of download data spare for whenever they need to download. My mobile limit is 6GB. If I am on the raod and have trouble, I cannot download even twice. It's ok at home or for anybody with large amounts of download data, but still time consuming. I love having my install discs handy at all times, and even burning a Lion DVD really messes up my nice collection of OS Install Discs! (lol on that bit)
You need to make sure you are with a reliable IP server as well.

Can you buy the Lightroom 5 CD and activate it on your computer without an internet connection? My photography computer is not connected to the internet and I dont want to connect it.

You can buy the standalone version of Lightroom 5.0 (which is the version sold on CD at Amazon and other places) and then use Lightroom without an internet connection. The Map Module will not work without an Internet connection.
You might want to download the latest update of Lightroom, which is Lightroom 5.7.1 and use that instead of Lightroom 5.0. You could download the installer file on a different computer from Product updates and then move that file to your PC which is not connected to the Internet and then install that way.

I had Internet service when I started/activated my iTunes genius. But now, I stopped my Internet service and I cannot deactivate/stop the iTunes genius from trying to access the iTunes Store. Does Leopard server work without an internet connection?

Topic says it all. What a noob question but it seems like it doesn't. I didn't have a network cable plugged to the modem during installation of the Standard Server configuration and it wouldn't continue without an internet connection. Once I plugged it in everything was fine... until my internet connection was out for several hours. None of the services worked during that time and nothing was working right at all.

I guess here you may also ask what services the server will host. My experience since Tiger (and Leopard) is that most things involving OD and Kerberos works better (or works at all) if you have a +network with existing DNS+ set up correct before you set up the server. No need of an Internet connection thou.
Have newer tried to set up either Tiger or Leopard as OD master and the first DNS on the network, but I guess (read right: guess) that setting it up as Standalone first, activate DNS and promote to OD master may be the way to go.
But if it will be standalone file server - well. Should work fine with camelots configuration of network.
And why else have a server? If you only have one computer in your configuration? But that may be a totally different story...

Can an Itunes movie be watched on an airplane without an internet connection? If so, how does it know when to start the 24 hour timer for the movie to be deleted?

In theory it should work, in reality many keep coming here stating it did not work. Things get a little muddled as location services and time-zones can cause all kinds of glitches when travelling at jet speeds.

Using Muse without an internet connection

This morning, while my internet connection was down, I was somewhat surprised – alarmed actually – that I am unable to preview a site build using Muse. Neither the Preview tab nor Preview in browser function would work. The browser preview appeared shortly after my connection was restored (I had since shut Muse down). Surely the software is able to function 100% without a constant link to Adobe?
(FWIW, while the connection was down Acrobat would stop responding after a viewing a few pages of a PDF)

There maybe something else causing your issue. You should have no problems previewing pages without an Internet connection as long as all the content is on your local machine. If you are getting some remote content such as Google Maps or perhaps if you have some content in the head section such as Google Analytics that requires a connection it may cause you to not load the page.
Just straight Muse pages stored locally on your own computer should have no problem at all.
