Sharing folder with BootCamp

I tried to do a search but really want finding exactly what I want to do. Basically since the Bootcamp partition is a read only volume under OS X I want to set up a shared folder on my MBP so I dont have to restart into which ever volume I need the file from. I hate having to restart into windows just to grab a file to attach to an email. I guess I could us an external media source such as a thumb drive but that gets old remembering to have it handy. Any help would be appreciated.

With MacDrive installed, I simply go to the iTunes music folder (on the Mac Partition) from within Vista. I then drag all the artists folders into the Playlist area. Each folder will be made into a playlist.
What you can do to avoid multiple playlists for each artists is to drag one first to create the playlist, then drag any corresponding files directly into the playlist where you want it. Then you're done!! OH WAIT! Don't forget to authorize your iTunes from the Advanced tab in the menu bar. Now OSX and Windows share the same files!! Yayy!!
Don't forget you have to update Vista/XP according to the new files you add on the OSX side. Hopefully Apple and Microsoft can agree on a solution or maybe some developer will do it if the price is right. I'm a developer, but my price is $50,000 in donations before I write a lick of code.

  • Sharing experience with BootCamp on MBP 13" 2010 model

    Hello,
    i want to share my bootcamp experience with other Macbook owners. Today i tried install Windows XP and Windows Vista, as a second OS.
    Windows XP - OS installation without any problems. Bootcamp installation, i cant even call this process "installation". First when i tried to install BC (bootcamp) i had BSOD ( happens everytime, reinstalled system and tried again ), when i restarted MBP and tried install BC again, "process" was done without errors. But i-Sight, Bluetooth, and ethernet drivers are not working. So there is no internet connection. Also audio is not working with BC 3.1, but 3.2 update ( if u manage to install it... .download in osx, move to windows partition and install from windows, because of no internet connection ) fixes audio issue. ( Windows XP proffesional SP2 32bit ).
    Windows Vista business 64bit - same problems like windows xp. I googled a lot, trying to find some solutions, but nothing worked for me.
    Verdict - no offence, but i think somewhere near this advertising "Mom always said, “Play nice with others.” Your computer should, too. With Mac OS X, you can use Microsoft Office, connect to most printers and cameras, join PC networks, and even run Windows." should be written - at the moment you can enjoy windows experience without internet.

    I agree, I think a couple things would make it a lot easier.

    Doesn't tell us if it 'fixes' thermal fan control or what it does, and could be said of most any and all updates you see.
    Mac users are not always versed in having to find and manually install audio drivers, issues with graphic card and drivers (and graphic drivers are a bit of a pain) and some expect full graphic driver support, when the ideal would be to direct to AMD or Nvidia and get current driver. Same with RealTek and Cirrius audio.
    Thermal fan control: SpeedFan has not worked but would be a logical utility to get working if possible.
    This results in higher temperatures because there is no driver or service to provide the fans with input from thermal sensors to regulate rpm and heat.
    Not having internet connection is a "catch-22" (often but not always wireless won't but wired will, and good idea to first establish a wired connection and make network configurations first).
    Boot Camp 3.0 drivers - copy to a folder where you can use "Troubleshoot Compatibility" and run
    Apple\Drivers\Bootcamp64.msi
    Where 'catch-22' if you can't use control + click or touchpad, you are also stuck and need a wired USB kb and mouse.
    +note: Some articles link to Apple Downloads, which will all 'break' when Apple Downloads section is removed come 2011? seems odd but have to stay tuned how it works.+

  • Access Denied Error For Shared Folder with Win Server 2008R2 Task Manager Scheduled Task

    Hi,
    I have scheduled a Task with the Task scheduler. It invokes an .EXE file after every 5 min.
    The application is supposed to access some files lying on a different Server's shared path, process them and move them across folders on the Shared path only.
    Problem: When the .EXE gets executed from the Task scheduler, I am getting "Access Denied to the Shared path" error. I have already given Full Control to Everyone as well as to the Account with which the Task has been configured with.
    Another important point to note is, if I run the .EXE manually, the solution is able is able to do everything intended; I don't get any Access Denied error.
    Kindly help me with what needs to be done in order that this issue is resolved. This is really urgent for me.
    Thanks a lot in advance..

  • Indexing a file shared folder with pictures

    Hi,
    I added a content source which is a file share folder which contains pictures and presentations and indexed it.
    When i search from sharepoint somehow i find only the files which are not pictures... any ideas? i want to set it to find all pictures files when search the file name or any other property which was edited (in windows explorer view)

    I just realized that i should add to "file types" the file extensions of pictures (jpg, png etc.)!
    Although in case it's in SharePoint - the pictures are found without such a definition, when it's in file share  - unless i added the file types - the index ignored those files

  • Permissions Issue with the "Shared" Folder

    Hello,
    I’ve been encountering what appears to be an odd bug concerning permissions, notably during the use of the “Shared” folder (/Users/Shared). And I’ve looked around to find solutions, but haven’t come across a similar problem. Hence the post.
    Here’s how it works—or, rather, how it doesn’t work. Two people are using one computer (a MacBook Pro running 10.6.3) and would like to share documents, being able to read and write to them.
    From what I can understand, any document created in a folder should take on that folder’s access privileges. Since the permissions for the “Shared” folder indicate “Read and Write” privileges for all three groups (Me, staff, everyone), then any document created therein should, in principle, allow members of all three groups to read and write to it.
    Well, to cut a long story short, it doesn’t. Whenever a document is created in the “Shared” folder (with Pages or TextEdit, for example), the “Get Info” window shows that only the user who created it has “Read and Write” privileges. Members of the other two groups only have “Read” privileges.
    I ran the “ls –l” command in Terminal on the “Shared” folder, and here is an example of the output for one of the files:
    –rw–r– –r– –@ 1 username staff 342 31 Jan 17:08 Test.rtf
    As far as I can understand, this shouldn’t be happening. I’ve tried logging out and logging back in, rebooting, and repairing permissions from the original installation disk (no problems detected), but nothing changes and I still encounter the same scenario.
    Has anyone run across this issue before? And would anyone know what might be wrong, or even how to fix it?
    Thanks to anyone who might be able to shed some light on this detail to help me understand what is going on here.
    Best regards,
    Stephen

    I suppose you are working on the Mac?
    Which version of the OS?
    Go to the finder, hold down the ALT key and call G, there select the User Library (the one without a shortcut, this entry is without the ALT key not visible).
    Check the permissions of the preferences folder. Select the folder CMD+I
    You must have permission to read and write.

  • Creating file in shared folder

    I need to access a folder on a network ( say \\server1\test ). test folder is shared on \\server1 with permission only to user 'A'. Now a java program ( Simple code snippet given below ) running will not be able to access the given folder due to access restriction. How can I make this code access the given folder and create a file xyz.txt in it.
    Code snippet :
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class test
    public static void main(String[] args)
    File file = new File(\\\\server1\\test\\xyz.txt );
    try
    file.createNewFile();
    catch (IOException e)
    // TODO Auto-generated catch block
    e.printStackTrace();
    }

    make sure that you have read and write permissions on that shared resource. i mean full access on that shared folder. with out full access you can't create/delete anything there. with read only access, you can read the content of the folder as well as that file only.

  • Can not edit file on network shared folder after upgrading to windows 7

    Merry Christmas and happy new year,
    Due to some configuration changes on a specific application, I have forced to upgrade OS of a few number of workstations from Windows XP to windows 7. After upgrading I am facing a strange problem on WIN7 workstations. These workstation are member of a Windows
    2008 R2 Active Directory domain which also has a Windows 2003 advanced server additional domain controller. Also there are a number of shared folders on some member servers (all windows 2003) which are mapped as network drives at user logon. Before upgrading
    mentioned workstations to WIN7, users was able to edit his/her files on all of mapped network drive according to his/her permissions without any problem on their WINXP workstations, But after installing windows 7 they begin facing problem on one of these mapped
    network drives and the problem exactly is when they edit a file, in more specific word an excel file, and then try to save, the excel returns an error message of "document not saved" and exit the excel program. It becomes more strange when you learn
    that the edited excel file is disappeared and replace with some "tmp" file. If user copy the excel file to his/her own desktop, edit it and then copy it back to its original place on mapped network drive, it will be replaced normally with its older
    version. In other words if user wants to edit an excel file on that specific network drive, he/she must edits it somewhere else and then replace it on the network drive. If the same user uses a WINXP box, there will be no problem.
    Can anybody help me to fix the issue?
    TIA
    Bijan

    Thank you Karen,
    The problem is fixed, but my case was none of what you suggested. In fact I have
    another problem which I described in another question and it was of the root of this excel file issue. I describe what I have done to fix the latter problem hope to help fixing similar issues to mine.
    Okay, as it is described in the
    question, I was not able to open a shared folder with its UNC address while it could be mapped as a network drive without any problem. I examined what I was replied and some other ways, came to no result. I decided investigate a similar shared folder in
    permissions to problematic one to see if the problem is repeated. So I created a folder and shared it with similar permissions and examined it. Surprisingly there was no problem. It was wise to remove sharing of the problematic folder and share it again to
    see if the problem resist. But when I tried to remove sharing I received an error message saying that
    the shared folder is related to a DFS root. When I took a look at the DFS roots of domain there was no sign of the problematic folder (that made me recall that I created a DFS root with problematic folder mistakenly and removed that DFS root).
    After little searching, I found out that the problem could be caused by traces of the removed DFS root. Yep! I found the suspect! The registry key
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DFS\Domain\problematic shared folder. I removed the key restarted DFS service and log off and on and Bingo!
    This problem pops up a few more questions:
    1) Why is not the registry key related to removed DFS root deleted from the registry of windows 2003 server?
    2) Why was I able to browse this ex-DFS root shared folder without any problem in windows XP while it was problematic in windows 7?
    3) As there is no special client service for DFS and user can access DFS root targets like other shared folders what is the deference between shared resource access mechanisms in windows XP and windows 7 that caused the problem?
    Bests,
    Bijan

  • Pictures which were found in shared folder are not shown as thumbnails

    Hi,
    I'm indexing SharePoint sites and  File Shared folder with Pictures.
    In the search results page the pictures from SharePoint are shown as thumbnails (there is a preview of the picture) but the pictures from fileshare are not shown that way (it is shown as a preview of a video but empty, without preview image).
    What should i set?
    I added a refiner of "Content Type" and it seems that the content type is "image/jpeg".
    keren tsur

    Hi,
    First create a custom display template which will read the image using the Path property as a thumbnail. Make it smaller etc using CSS. Next up create a custom Result Type which triggers on:
    ContentType Equals any of... image/jpeg
    ContentSource Equals and of... <name of file share content source>
    and pick your custom display template in the dropdown on the Result Type page.
    Depending on policy settings the browser will or will not read the image from the file share and display it inline.

  • Is it possible to save a briefing book to a shared folder

    Hello Gurus,
    Is it possible to save a briefing book to a shared folder
    With regards!
    Ram

    Is it possible to save a briefing book to a shared folderIf you can think of creating an automated process to ftp the files from "My Briefing Book" folders to a shared location based on some frequency. But you need to make a point here that each user's briefing book will be stored in its respective personal (My) location.

  • Move item between mailboxes / share folder with soap

    Hello,
    I need to move an email from one mailbox to another.
    With the normal client this can be done by sharing the folder and then draging and dropping.
    I want to automate this process with soap.
    I have been able to move email from a normal folder to another with soap.
    However I was not successful moving an email from a shared folder to a normal folder.
    Is this possible?
    Also, is it possible to create a shared folder with soap?
    I found the method acceptShareRequest, which seems to be the method I need to use to confirm the shared folder.
    Thanks and Kind Regards,
    Scott

    Hello Preston,
    From looking at the java example you pointed out, I got just about everything working. Thanks for that.
    The only think I need to do to complete my project is handling folders which are already shared.
    Basically I plan on checking out the ACL of a folder instead of blindly sharing it.
    So I need to inspect the existing ACLs.
    I saw the following code in the java example:
    Code:
    GetFolderResponse resp = new GetFolderResponse();
    FolderType ft = null;
    String id = null;
    // String view = "default account noDisplay fullACL";
    String view = "default account fullACL";
    str = m_item.getFolderTypeString();
    if ( null != str && str.equalsIgnoreCase( "Notes" ) ) {
    ft = FolderType.Notes;
    } else if ( null != str && str.equalsIgnoreCase( "JunkMail" ) ) {
    ft = FolderType.JunkMail;
    } else {
    id = m_item.getId();
    try {
    resp = m_main.getService().getFolderRequest( id, ft, null, null,
    view, m_main.getSessionId(), m_main.getTrace() );
    So I read the code to the effect, if I send a folder id and the view "default account fullACL" with getFolderRequest, I should get the ACL information.
    This however doesn't seem to be working for me.

    Hello there - how can I share my iTunes library between two users on the same computer? I put the library in a shared folder between both and have selected this library on both as well, but when I update iTunes with music etc it only appears on one?

    Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly   Thanks anyway!

  • ITunes sharing among iPhones with different Apple ID's one computer WITHOUT home sharing, shared folder, etc...

    I feel like I am losing my mind, here. A few things I want to clear up before you read my question:
    No, I am not new to Apple. Yes, I understand that Home Sharing works for any group of devices authrized with my Apple ID. Home Sharing is not my issue.
    1. My wife and I have different iPhones with different Apple IDs.
    2. We only have one computer, on which iTunes is running under my Apple ID.
    3. My iTunes library is far too large to paste into a shared folder. I keep my source folder on a 1TB external hard drive (not enough space on my iMac).
    I just want her to be able to plug in and copy music onto her phone from iTunes. Home sharing is great while she's at home on the wifi, but not when she leaves. I created her own user name on my computer, set her iTunes (under her Apple ID) to pull from my library source file, and she can play everything fine, except that she cannot click and drag files onto her phone.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    iTunes Match is associated with one, and only one, iTunes Store Apple ID and country-specific store. The service cannot be shared between Apple IDs.

    If we sign up for iTunes with the one account with the majority of the songs, is Home Sharing no longer available to the other two accounts?
    Of course it is. iTunes Match has no affect on Home Sharing.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    A.  What happens to the songs on the other two libraries?  Can we never use them?
    It is possible to consolidate the tracks from the other iTunes libraries into one and use that for iTunes Match. Make sure the one computer that hosts the library is authorized to play any protected content.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    C.  If we purchase songs/albums while in iTunes Match, and then decide not to use Match in the future, do we lose all our music?
    Of course not. Any purchases go to the purchase history for the Apple ID that bought them and as long as the tracks are downloaded and backedup you'll have them as long as you maintain them. Keep in mind that iTunes Match is a service; you don't do anything "in" iTunes Match. It simply "is" in the background.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    D.  If we associate our child's iTouch, will it still keep the parental controls in place so it won't play certain songs that are not appropriate f
    Yes, parental controls should continue to work as they have. Although I do not use them, perhaps someone else with experience will weigh in.
